+ -1 moreThe initial service was for a home I purchased from an owner who had neglected the yard. They installed sod and did a great job making it look good. They continued with bi-weekly service for almost 2 years, then stopped coming entirely, but still continued to bill me. Also, when they started the service, they would take the yard clippings, but stopped randomly without telling me. I then agreed to continue our relationship after arguing with them on the phone over the course of a few days over who was responsible for the clippings, but I also agreed to pay them more for the service I had been receiving before (that was their way of raising the price I guess; fewer services for the same price or more services for a higher price). When they stopped coming, I called them after about a month without their service and they claimed to be sending someone out right then. Since I paid them in advance, I asked them to still come out, but they never showed, so I called back and canceled my service a few days later. The whole experience left such a bad taste in my mouth that I have gone without yard service for a year. I searched on Angie's List and they're a highly rated company, so it makes me think that I can't trust Angie's List.

Process for getting to final agreement took too long, but that was partially due to our budget considerations. Know what you want and what you can spend - that helps. Happy with the work.
Description of Work: Love Your Lawn installed a new fence for us and worked with our budget so that we got something that we are very satisfied with (and our neighbors like it too). The process for landscaping was very time consuming but the landscaper was very conscientious and clearly very thoughtful about plant selection and lighting. We are happy with the results, although we wish the process could be streamlined.

+ 2 moreFirst of all, the presentation was enjoyable and very professional. The landscaping rep that came out was very warm and friendly and obviously knew what he was doing. Without even asking our financial situation, he laid out a very doable plan for what he envisioned for our yard from a technical standpoint and money standpoint. He also explained the sprinkler system in an easy way to understand. The crew that arrived was very professional and did very hard and thorough work on breaking ground for the sprinkler system even. The installation went slowly (very tough dry ground we have with lots of rocks) but was very thorough. We couldn't have been more happy with the landscaping job that was done too. Not only was the sprinkler system installed but proper care for the lawn was explained to us as well as instructions on using the sprinkler system. The only reason I gave a somewhat negative mark was that there were times when it was very difficult to get a call back to a voicemail we'd leave for a question. But it wouldn't keep us from using the same company again as long as they understood our concern. One other thing that I strongly admired was the way the company handled difficult situations. On the day that the irrigation crew left, there was a serious problem with one of them and the way he reacted to our dog. It was a tense and potentially scary situation. As a result of that incident, the company took care of the problem employee and also went above and beyond in making the situation right. To apologize for the unprofessional behavior, they installed our landscape lighting for free (which we had not paid for and planned to do on our own). A very smart, professional, and skilled company.
Description of Work: Sprinkler system was installed in front yard as well as major landscaping. Beds were put in on both sides of the house as well as plants and rocks.

Description of Work: Love Your Lawn ("LYL") planted six x 12' hollys for a privacy screen, and put in two small "paver" areas, each about 20 sq. ft. While the crew did good work, I definitely felt like they did a better job b/c I stayed out with them the entire time. That said, I was pleased and would easily recommend the company.

+ 4 moreRaymond was the designer and can really picture what it is going to look like. He took a lot of time going over what I wanted (look at feel), listed to my ideas, and was up front about what would work and what wouldn't. Most companies will just go for the quick sale, give you plants that won't work in your zone, will over plant to give you an instant yard, but not account for the mature size of the plants. Raymond was there to make sure that the work was done correctly. For example, the crew left screws sticking out the other side of my fence when they installed the kickboard and in general left the job site sloppy when they thought they were finished. He made sure it was all taken care of as it should. The sprinkler guy also didn't get some of the heads installed correctly and Raymond took care of that too. He was invaluable as a crew chief as well as a designer. This job would not have gotten done without Raymond and Jerrett (helped oversee the crew on the last day during drainage, corrections, and cleanup). Raymond was also very up accommodating when it came to my budget and worked within it, but didn't cut corners.
Description of Work: Full landscape design in back yard including large patio extension with decomposed granite, new beds, boulders, drainage, and plans for plants.

+ 0 moreOverall, we are generally pleased with Love Your Lawn. We are continuing to use them for lawn moving and occasional landscape projects. I give the lawn team a "C+" because they do the basic work and they are consistent. The office is a "B+" because of their responsiveness Depending on your lawn size and number of plants, you could benefit from the Lawn & Landscape service as long as you get your initial clean up. The office (Sharon) has been very responsive when I've called to express concerns about the service (e.g. blowing and edging by pool area; cutting trees incorrectly.) UPDATE 5/2011: Love Your Lawn will mow your grass and if you do not have a pool or any landscaping and just need the basics and don't care about when they come - this company's service will likely work for you. However, if you expect a reasonable standard of care and effort to be made and service on a consistent day - this is not the company for you.
Description of Work: We use Love Your Lawn for weekly lawn service and occasional landscaping work. They are generally good at keeping the lawn mowed.. We have had to remind the management office that we do not want edging or blowing in lawn areas closest to our pool. Holly, their estimator/landscape acct manager, is great. When the guys follow her directions everything comes out well. We did have their Landscaping and Lawn service for about 4 months. This cost around $210 per month. We ended the landscaping because 1) due to the timing of picking up the new service, we didn't get a spring clean up so the landscaping was never fully "maintained" 2)Our opinion was that our yard was too big for them to really keep up with the landscaping in the time Love Your Lawn allotted in each visit (15-20 mins). UPDATE 5/2011: I'm updating this report six months later because I am extremely frustrated with Love Your Lawn. During the winter months the crew comes monthly. When spring/summer service resumed, the timing of the crews arrival was sporadic. The first two weeks the crew came on Saturdays; we were doing work around the outside and having the lawn folks there was disruptive. They eventually have settled on anytime between Wednesdays and Fridays, which can be challenging when you have other things going on. I have had to call the office twice to remind the crews about edging around the pool area just since the weekly service resumed. The team blows through their work and does not exercise a decent amount of care. We are having some floor work being done and the floor crew place the toilet and lid on the grass to avoid damage. The Love Your Lawn guy (and we have pictures) picked up the lid from the grass and placed it somewhere it was not secure. The lid subsequently fell over and broke. It's fine if he moved the lid while he was mowing - but it would have been nice if he had placed it back on the grass. We are cancelling the service. We need a lawn crew that takes more time, care and effort and isn't trying to blow through and do 100 lawns a day.

+ 2 moreObservations: 1. Very responsive. Quick to call back, set up dates, and quite punctual. This was a major factor in my hiring them. Other companies I spoke to just seemed lethargic in comparison. 2. The lady who did my sod estimate was good. Seemed knowledgeable. 3. The guys who laid the sod were also fine. I wish they had moved faster to water sections of the sod as they were laying it down instead of waiting to finish the whole yard and then begin watering. 4. Competitive pricing. Cons: 1. Seems like they have quite a high turnover at their company. The sod lady was gone in a week, their sprinkler 'expert' was gone in a couple of weeks. Lack of continuity from a customer's perspective. 2. My bermuda lawn has had weeds from day one. The sod and top soil was laid on completely barren fill. I can't help but suspect the sod itself had the weeds. My overall recommendation would be B.5 (between A and B)

We were very pleased with the work done in the front yard - particularly with the trimming and shaping of the front year trees and shrubs. Although we requested that the shrubs along the back year fence not be trimmed - the crew trimmed these anyway but the supervisor apologized for this oversight

+ 0 moreThe fence repair was excellent and it seems to be holding up. They reset 2 fence posts that were leaning badly, replaced about 12 slats, and reattached the gate latch. When I came home the day they were doing the work I realized that they had the wrong information and were working on the front yard flower beds. They had trimmed some bushes that I did not want trimmed. I had asked for the back to be done, not the front. When I contacted the salesperson she stopped them and came to assess the situation. We agreed that they would do the back yard flower beds and not trim any bushes. She offered to replace the bushes in the front that had been trimmed incorrectly or that they would reduce the price of the job and hope the bushes would fill back in. I chose to leave the bushes and go with the reduced price. She was very nice and willing to correct the problems. Several people in my neighborhood have commented on how good the yard looks. I probably won't use them again because my situation has changed and I will have time to do more yard work myself.
Description of Work: Repaired 2 fence posts that were leaning. Tidied up flower beds and weeded. Trimmed trees. Removed a large overgrown honeysuckle vine. Trimmed bushes.

They weren't able to finish the first day, so they brought a 5 man crew the next day. Very happy with the results and that they were able to accommodate my short notice.

+ -1 moreI spent about $250 on that work. They were pretty punctual and would be one day or the other, and that we did not need to be here. They came the second day and I happened to be here and they were very friendly. They knocked on the door and asked me some questions because we tried to both of our trees up to code and they said that magnolia tree looked fine and did not need to be trimmed. That was nice because it brought down the cost and I trusted them when they said the tree was fine. I think my son is going to use them and I would recommend them to others.

+ -1 moreFirst contact with company was excellent. Holly came by to quote the job and arrived on time as scheduled. She estimated the number of hours and quoted an estimate based on an hourly fee. The creek area was quite time intensive (it had not been cleared in several years) and exceeded the initial estimate by a couple of hours, which was okay. They did a great job. The only reason I did not give an A for quality is that I had to have them come back twice to remove leaves from a couple of areas they missed. One was included in the initial estimate and one was not because of a communication issue. Also, they left the second batch of leaf bags on the curb for pickup but it was not my week for large trash pickup. When I called Holly, it was immediately taken care of.

+ 1 moreThe pricing for the sod was good. They didn't deliver enough sod on the day they were supposed to install it, so they had to make 2 more deliveries to get it all the sod to the house. After they delivered the 1st load of sod, they let it sit on the sidewalk for quite a while before installing it, thereby letting it dry out too much. The sod was very dry once it went in, so I had to really water the heck out of it afterwards. The pricing on the planting bed prep wasn't good. They charged way too much for the soil. I would recommend buying your own supplies. They also left a lot of the existing poor quality clay soil visible in the planting beds. The pricing on the planting bed walls was not good. They charge way too much to supply and install the bricks. They wanted to charge $26 per linear foot to supply and install the walls, which had 1 layer of bricks plus a cap. I would seriously recommend supplying your own bricks and decomposed granite. Home Depot charges about $2.50 per brick and $65 for delivery. For my 50 linear foot job, I probably saved about $500 by providing my own materials. The quality of their brickwork was OK, but not good. Overall, I would recommend watching everything they do as their doing it so you can catch poor quality work early. They were very responsive when I pointed out work that they needed to improve. Also, even though I was paying them by the hour, I never got the impression that they were working slowly in order to make more money off of me. They took a while to finish the job. Originally, they said the job would be finished within 7 days of me hiring them. After 2 intensive days of work, they were 95% complete within 8 days of me hiring them. They were reluctant to finish the remaining 5% because they had other "big jobs" to work on and my small amount of remaining work was apparently not important enough to worry about.
