We had approximately one pallet of new sod installed by Hooplawn (Bill Hooper and his helper) on June 8, 2023. Later that afternoon I turned my sprinklers on and all the sprinkler heads, where the new sod had been put in, were covered up by the new sod. This was the first sign that the installation was not done correctly because clearly, they should have cut around the sprinkler heads to allow them to pop up. Next, I also noticed that the gate would not close because the sod was just placed down without accounting for any slope or gate clearance. I called Bill and he sent his worker back out and he addressed those issues. We were told to water the grass twice a day for ten days, which we did. On Friday June 16th, I began texting Bill to let him know that the new sod was dying. Bill did not respond to any of my text messages. My husband and I tried on several occasions to call Bill and still no response. On June 22nd I decided to go to Hooplawn’s website and fill out the “let’s chat” form. I filled it out and got a call immediately from Bill. Evidently, he thought I was a new customer looking for services. When I identified myself and asked why he had not responded to any of our phone calls or messages, he said he did not get them. I have proof that they were sent, and it was obvious that he just ignored them. I told him about the grass dying and specifically, that we noticed that the soil had not been tilled before the sod was installed which is more than likely why the grass died. Bill asked me what I wanted him to do and mentioned that he could possibly do a partial refund. I expressed to Bill that I would prefer that he replace the dead grass and install it properly. He started yelling at me telling me that I could not be pleased and that he was not going to replace the grass and wasn’t coming on my property anymore. Then, he hung up on me. I texted Bill one more time after that incident asking him to let me know when I could expect the partial refund he offered during our conversation -- he never responded. If there’s such a thing as zero-star service, Hooplawn delivered it! Based on this experience, Hooplawn should not be counted on to deliver what they promise. Bill showed his true colors when he responded immediately to what he thought was a new opportunity but couldn’t be bothered to try to rectify a problem with an existing customer. We were not asking for anything other than for Hooplawn to do the job they were paid for correctly. At this point, we just want to be sure that nobody else gets ripped off by this company the way we did.
