Mr. Barber came out, looked at my project, gave me a quote and started the following week. He started on a Thursday and finished Sunday. His work is professional and he does it the old school way, with attention to detail, not in a rush. He makes suggestions that you may not be aware of, to give your finished product that professional look, which he guarantees. It’s hard to find craftsman’s these days that want to take their time and do the job right. If you’re looking for someone who has those work ethics, Mr. Barber is your man. The garage turned out great! Just like he guaranteed.

This is the second project Walter has done for us. (He previously painted all exterior trim.) He is one of the most caring contractors we've ever worked with. He squeezed in our job among others, coming and going within a reasonable amount of time. He's extremely personable, charges fair prices and his work is top notch.

I'd let my house go way too long and the paint had started to peel, and also I had some missing sections of trim from when I'd had my home re-roofed that needed to be replaced. Walter quoted an excellent price and was able to start on the job within a couple of days. He and the people he worked with pressure washed the entire house as well as the walkway and driveway, did a great job scraping and sanding to get it ready to paint, replaced the missing and damaged trim, caulked all of the gaps to smooth the appearance, primed, and painted using quality materials. My house looks better than it has in years, and Walter was a pleasure to work with. I'll definitely call him for help with other projects as they arise.

Work is very good but punctuality is the trick. When he's here its good.

I cannot say enough good things about Walter Barber. He's a fine, upstanding man in the old tradition. He stands behind his work 100% and his word is his bond. He takes pride in his work and goes above & beyond as a matter of course. The job(s) took longer than expected, but without question, it was worth the extra time. (seriously: why complain about extra work being done with strict attention to every detail?). We could not have been happier with the result. Nothing was left undone. Nothing! When Walter was finished, the house looked absolutely superb. Magnificent, actually. The house sold in ONE day for MORE than we listed it for! Enough said... THANK YOU WALTER! :)

Mr. Barber went above and beyond taking care to make sure the house looked good. There were a few things I asked him to come back and take care of, which he did promptly. He did such a good job I felt like I needed to pay him more than his initial estimate. I highly recommend Mr. Barber for your paining needs.

Walter takes pride in his work and the final results reflect this pride. Simply put he does an exceptional job and the fact that he is a good guy and a veteran made for a pleasant experience. We will definitely use again in the future.

I called Walter based on the Angie's list reviews. He came and fixed my damaged drywall in my laundry room from a big upstairs leak. He did such a good job and was very pleasant to work with that I hired him to paint and caulk the exterior of my home. He did a great job.

Mr. Barber showed up at the appointed time to look over the two areas the and quote. Since it was a small job and we had the necessary ladder, he decided to complete the job at the same time. He was very thorough, took great care with a large extension ladder and sealed up the holes so that the squirrel will never be coming in that way again. Then he painted the patching and it is hardly noticeable from the ground. Walter's price was very fair, less than what was previously quoted and he dd a very professional job. I heartily recommend him and will use him again!

UPDATE AS OF 5/5/16: Unfortunately, shortly after I wrote my review, my wife and I discovered workmanship problems or problems related to the work that was done. As you can see from the added pictures, the paint on the front door blistered in many places. Additionally, we found some drip spots along the eves. Seemed straight forward to get remedied, perhaps in just one day. However, every time she contacted Walter over multiple weeks, she received a promise to perform, and then he did not show. So I started calling. As we headed into the wintry weather, he expressed concern about having the right weather conditions and so I asked him what those were and then eyed the forecasts. I called him days before those ideal weather conditions to see if he could come out. He would promise to perform. He didn't show. Further discussions and him saying "This is a priority for me." After six months, it's clear he does not do what he says he will and and he will not fix the problems. We had a fair price (above some competing quotes) for him to do the work and he should treat his customers better. If you aren't going to come fix the problems, say that instead of stringing folks along for months and wasting everybody's time. The rest of the job seems good, but I had to update the ratings to reflect these problems and make you aware this might happen. If I had to do this over again, I would go with another local company like Village Pro Painters in Flower Mound (with whom I have no affiliation and no benefit for this reference). Their quote was 30% less expensive, 50% faster estimated time to complete, had a very clear contract, included a written warranty for paint and labor, and wanted no money up front. ORIGINAL REVIEW: I started with 22 potential local (DFW metroplex) vendors and then compared Angies, Google, Yelp, and BBB reviews and ranked vendors by years in business (minimum 10 years required), being listed on more review services, and fewest valid negative reviews. I had the top six vendors come by and give written estimates. Walter was the only non-incorporated vendor. There is something special and especially useful (effective communication) in working with the sole proprietor who is doing the work. Walter wasn't the highest or the lowest bid for this job. He was the one who clearly had the most experience and really was going to do a great job for us. He made it clear he wanted the job, without pressuring us. I was worried about the lack of warranty and risk related to on-the-job injury, but it worked out fine. My only other doubt was from what I read on-line about hand roll/brush versus spraying. Here's the professional difference: His hand brushing put a much better coat on then when I had the house sprayed back in the early 2000's. Walter cares about the job and the outcome and I told him up front I was more interested in a job well done (hence willing to pay for the highest quality paint) than a job done on a given time table. The original quote did not specify the replacement of 2 large garage jambs (with trim) or the replacement of trim on the chimney--but that was what was needed to do the job well. Walter did not ask for more money, but people should be paid for good work (as another reviewer noted, a man's gotta eat!) they perform so we paid him more than the original quote because that just seemed fair to me. At the end of job, Walter asked me what else was needed to bring the job to a close and my wife and I told him (all really minor cosmetic stuff) and he just got it done. None of that endless circle of things to get done--it was just done. I didn't even have to swat away requests to put a sign in my yard.

It has been a pleasure and a privilege to do business with Walter Barber. Mr. Barber is exactly the person we wanted to paint our house. We wanted a person who would not cut corners, but do a thorough and careful job. We knew Mr. Barber was our painter when he told us that he did not believe in using sprayers. He liked to paint the old-fashioned way with brushes and rollers. We were very fortunate that he was available immediately. He removed wallpaper from two bathrooms, textured, and painted. He also painted the trim and cabinets of the master bathroom. Then he moved on to preparing and painting the exterior of our house. Walter has a wonderful attitude about working and life in general. Not only is he an optimist, he is self-confident. He has a will and love for his profession. It seems that no job is daunting for Walter Barber. He will take it on, setting his goal for the day and pacing himself until he achieves it. Our wooden siding was dry and cracked, and needed some boards replaced. Even though he prefers not to do the carpentry himself, he did it anyway, and it looked great afterwards. Walter Barber is a painter with a name that we will not soon forget. Had he been a part of a crew that comes in and leaves in a few days, we would not have had the privilege of getting to know a little bit about him as a person, and we feel richer for the opportunity to have met such a diligent and genial person. When Walter says that most of his business comes from repeat customers, you will most definitely believe it. We are looking forward to seeing Walter again.

He did a great job. Spent all day working outside sanding and applying the stain. Probably charged too little for the job, but stuck to his estimate. Always very respectful and professional.

We reached out to Walter based on his recommendations on Angies List. We were not disappointed. Walter is timely, considerate, and truly cares about the quality of his work. We were very impressed with Walter's professionalism and plan to have him do additional work on our downstairs and exterior. Highly recommended and top quality work.

Walter did a great job. He quoted a price and said he could finish the job in 2 days. He ended up working late the second day to get it finished, which we really appreciated as we wanted to have the bath ready for use right away.

After interviewing two painters, I chose Mr. Barber because he sounded more confident about being able to repair ceiling and wall cracks and to return the surface textures to what they were originally. The house was unoccupied, which made it easy for him and his helpers to come in and paint on their schedules---which turned out to be mostly late at night. My spouse and I live in another city now and made 3 trips to Dallas to check on various things with the house as it was readied for sale. We were concerned when we arrived at the house only the day before Mr. Barber said he would be finished to find that the floors were still papered, there was some spilled paint on the tile floor of the entryway, and several rooms were not complete. We were also worried because we found a large, opened can of beer in the house, and two more in the garbage bin. When we called Mr. Barber, he said he would be coming in another couple of hours. We stayed at the house to do yard work all day, and he and his crew did not arrive until well after dark. However, he promised to be done on time, and promised to clean up everything. We returned to the house 2 days later, and true to his word, Mr. Barber was not only done on time but had cleaned everything---in some cases, more than he really had to. I expected him to wipe sheet rock dust off the kitchen counters, but I didn't expect him to scrub them clean. Even the spilled paint from the tile entryway was gone. There was a misunderstanding about the paint which Mr. Barber used. He thought we wanted a brand of paint that he didn't particularly like using because of its low quality; we only mentioned it because at first, we thought we would only have him do touch-up painting and not a whole-house repainting, and that was the paint which had been used previously. I take responsibility for that, though. In the end, the house looked great. It must have helped, as we had 7 offers made on it in the first week in which it was up for sale.

It took a while to hear back from Mr. Barber, and then he did not come on the scheduled day. He did call me late in that day to say he'd been busier than normal and was apologetic. He painted our rooms the following day, coming out on a Saturday so that we would not have to wait. They did a careful quality job and I would hire them again.

Walter Barber did an OUTSTANDING job painting and repairing the exterior of our house. We plan on using him again sometime next year or early 2016 to paint the inside of our house. He showed up on time and meticulously went about his job. After talking with him, you know he loves what he does and takes pride in it. I'll echo what a lot of other reviewers stated. If you want a rush job and can't really wait for someone to take their time and do a really really good job then Walter Barber is not for you. if you want someone who loves his job, takes pride in doing the work and will take their time making sure they do a good and thorough job then Walter Barber is for you. As long as Walter Barber is painting, we will use him for all of our painting needs. Our house looks awesome after he got done with it. The front door has never looked better once Walter finished with it.

Excellent attention to details. Cleaned the siding and caulked where necessary to prepare for painting. Used the good old fashioned brush and roller techniques instead of spraying the paint. I Concur with the "A" rating that others gave Walter. He does professional work and we are very happy with the results. We will call Walter again for any painting needs. Update, 1 year: Walter's trim color choice for our siding was great match for our bricks. We continue to enjoy an send a forever thank you to Walter and Eddie.

I have used Walter Barber for several painting projects for more than a year. I have always been pleased with the result. He is personable, reasonably priced, and seems to care about the quality of the work-like I do. I would recommend him to anyone looking for a responsible person to do what needs to be done. Even if you get other quotes, you should get a quote from him. I wish all the contractors I deal with were as easy to work with.

Very Very well !! Worked almost non-stop from 9AM til 4PM on Sunday. A person would be most fortunate to get Walter to do a job for them. He works 7-days a week and loves his work, for which he is very proud. Wish that all people we hire were as good as Walter.

Wow. The floor of my (concrete) front porch had gotten pretty ugly. Paint was peeling and in bad shape. I was put in touch with Walter on a Wednesday and he had finished the job Thursday afternoon! Porch looked great. Walter was super responsive and punctual and followed up a couple times as well to make sure everything was perfect. I contacted two other companies, one never replied and one said they couldn't get to it for 4 weeks. Glad I found Walter!

Mr. Barber was prompt, professional, and very thorough. His painting work was very good. He takes great pride in his work. Other than using an assistant to wash the surfaces to be painted, he performed all of the work himself. The work consisted of cleaning the surfaces to be painted, preparation work (which took the most time), including caulking (including replacing old caulk around windows), sanding, repairing some areas in which the wood had rotted or had been chewed up by squirrels, or had cracked in the sun. He was diligent, and worked pretty much nonstop while here, and worked from the time he arrived until close to dark each evening. His breaks were modest in frequency and length. Since the painting was completed, the house, which had not been painted in several years, has looked much better. From start to finish, his work took about 6 days. The first day consisted of cleaning. Days 2-5 consisted of prep work; he began painting during Day 5 and finished on Day 6. The work took a little longer than expected due to some portions of the woodwork that required more repair than originally anticipated; the scope of the repair did not become apparent until the old paint had been removed. His price was very reasonable; the price included the cost of paint and other materials he used in the job. The price matched his estimate.
