Description of Work: Walter is a hard-working professional. He placed us on his schedule and completed the work of washing, sanding, repairing, priming, and applying two coats of paint to the wood exterior of my brick home. He also painted the front door and two garage doors. His work was meticulous and he is very knowledgeable from his many years of painting. I couldn't have asked for a better job at a better price. The house was painted a year ago, and it still looks great!

Description of Work: This person came to my house to look at the job. Said he would do the job the next Tuesday and would call me with an estimate within 2 days. He never called. I tried him four times with no luck - just an answering machine. Very confusing.So, he never performed the service.

Description of Work: This is the first time I have used Angie's list though I have gone online many times. I looked under exterior painting and repair for A evaluations and super service awards. I came up with 7 names/companies that would travel to the area. Walter Barber's evaluations were superb and I knew he worked for himself with a helper. I starred his name among the seven and called. Walter happened not to be on a job and we started the same day I called. He met me at my lake home and we discussed what he would do. At a fair price he offered to: clean the deck, benches, and steps, stain them and apply a clear coat. He checked the exterior of the home and planned to remove previous caulk, place new caulk extensively, and replace rotting wood on the exterior of the main house. He agreed to paint the exterior. He agreed to sand and put a protective clear coat on the redwood deck furniture including 2 adirondack chairs, 2 tables, 2 stools, and 2 planters. As an extra he offered to pressure wash the concrete floors below the deck and entrance to the home. Another extra was to clean all outside bulbs for the lights and tighten outside flood lights. We matched the exterior color and had to look for the stain. He made a special trip to a paint store and met me on his way to my lake home so that we could agree on the stain. He had previously taken a piece of wood - applied the stain and clear coat so that I could make a decision on the wood from the deck. He returned to the store to buy the paint for staining. We did all of that Monday and Tuesday morning. He began in earnest on Tuesday afternoon and completed the work on Sunday cleaning everything up on Monday! He was not asked to work on Sunday! He continuously informed me of his progress and what he was doing. I spent most of Sunday afternoon observing the two men work. What a team! I highly recommend Walter for any exterior painting and repair. He is an expert, tremendously hard worker, conscientious, very cordial and a perfectionist. Once you agree on a price there will not be any alteration. I feel, based on past experience, that this is the best job I have seen done. What a joy to work with such an honest, dedicated professional.

Description of Work: Had an exterior of the single story house painted. Also had a an adjacent carport ceiling (which is part of the house) due to a common roof redone. It involved taking down existing texture which was peeling (due to lack of primer when installed), priming, spraying texture and painting with 100% acrylic exterior paint. All painting work was done by brush and roller. It takes more time than spraying, but paint will hold many more years than a thin spray, that may adhere to a film of dirty surface and give up in a few years. It also take a lot more paint. So if you do not mind some "orange peel on the gutter and occasional brush stroke on the trim hire this guy. If you prefer have a smooth surface everywhere, your roof oversprayed and paid dust discovered on your and neighbors car, hire the overprized young, so called experts. Hiring this man you will not waist your money on a middle man, office overhead and advertizing. He also uses the top, premium materials, which is mostly an extra option with others. This guy is honest and pretty reasonable. Always keep in mind, that every man has a right to make a profit as long as he returns a good work. I have worked in the construction industry for a 40 years, so I can tell a decent, honest work from a "hot needle job".

+ -1 moreI was very pleased with the job that Walter did on my house. My house had many dark colors that needed to be painted back to a neutral color because I'm going to be selling it soon. He did a great job on the paint and the trim. The areas that were re-textured look great. They blend in well with the existing texture. I requested that he do the work himself and not his assistant based on a review here. He did and I am very pleased with the final result.
Description of Work: Walter painted the entire interior of my house including the trim. He also re-textured a few areas.

He said he'd finish our job before committing to another one, but he ended up leaving his assistant to work alone a lot while he was off doing something else. As a result, the third bedroom, which the assistant worked on, was much lower quality than the rooms Walter himself did. However, Walter did come back and redo some of the trim that was really bothering us. We would use him again, but only if he's the guy doing the work -- because he knows his stuff and really does seem to care. He's a very friendly and likable guy as well. Follow up: After closer inspection of the work Walter and his assistant did, we have found more instances of sloppy work. So much so that we are redoing some of the trim ourselves. And to top it off, when we went to buy additional paint, we discovered that he had painted our walls with *flat* rather than the satin we requested. Argh! So I'm afraid I have to revise our overall grade. Downward.
Description of Work: Job 1: Walter and his assistant repaired tape, filled holes and cracks, and patched up sheetrock in three bedrooms, then painted all three, including ceilings and closets. Job 2: Follow up to Job 1.

At our request, since we wanted the job done ASAP, he drove all the way from Dallas to Highland Village on the same day and gave us a free estimate. He didn't charge us for traveling time. His work was very neat in spite of the fact that he was painting 2-story high walls. He cleaned up after painting. He completed the job on time. His price was reasonable. We will definitely re-hire him. We will recommend him to our friends and neighbors. It was fun chatting with him about his life and about his family. He is a veteran.

ON THE DAY THAT HE WAS TO COME, HE CALLED TO TELL ME THAT HE HAD TO GIVE AN ESTIMATE SOMEWHERE ELSE (WHICH HE SHOULD HAVE KNOWN WHEN HE MADE THE APPOINTMENT), AND WANTED TO PUSH OUR APPOINTMENT TIME TO 1 HOUR LATER. HE THEN CALLED ME 3 MORE TIMES TELLING ME THAT HE WAS LOST, AFTER I HAD GIVEN HIM DIRECTIONS AT LEAST 4 TIMES. ON THE LAST CALL, HE WAS NO MORE THAN 5 MINUTES FROM MY HOUSE AND CLAIMED TO HAVE A MAPSCO, YET HE NEVER EVEN SHOWED UP AT MY HOUSE AND HE FAILED TO CALL AND EVEN APOLOGIZE.
