Description of Work: Requested an appointment and a lady called me back to let me know someone would contact me to make an appointment. A few days went by, so I called back to see if the message ever got to the second level and finally, got it scheduled. A guy came out, took some measurements and gave me a ridiculous ballpark figure to add some cabinets with a counter top in my game room. Not rocket science by any means and for something I have gotten two additional quotes already for a third of the cost. But my complaint is that this guy says he could have a quote back to me by Friday of the week he came out on Tuesday or Wednesday and I never received a follow up or hard quote with drawings, as I was promised. Not impressed.

We do not show this client's name or address in our system. I'm not sure if he's confused is with another company. We would love the opportunity to come out & bid his project.

Description of Work: I needed an interior door with casing installed. The estimate did not meet their minimum billing of $750. They advised that I have the finish carpenter do some other project for me in addition to the door. |I suggest that his company should consider how they would like their physician or dentist treating them this way.

Description of Work: Complete remodel of kitchen and master bath. I have been warned many times of the horrors of a remodel. I was amazed at how little this work disrupted our lives. the project manager, Miguel, was here daily and never hesitated to call contractors back to correct imperfections, and he is a perfectionist. Everything was draped, in extreme, which contained dust and debris to the area being worked. At the end of the day, all draping was removed, the area cleaned, and we were able to use the areas as much as progress allowed. Priority was given to get us back in a somewhat functional kitchen within the first week. Excellent coordination of contractors minimized the time involved with the project. Our satisfaction was confirmed at every step. Things did need to be redone. When this was the case, the problem was immediately addressed and usually amended the following day. The only change in the original cost estimate was when things were found to reduce that number. We were not limited to buying any materials or fixtures from the company, although we did purchase most items through them. I did the painting myself to reduce cost. We did have a tricky design problem in the bathroom that their design professional helped with by suggesting an unusual solution. This has been one element we get the most complimentary comments on. These are not "handymen", these are craftsmen that are known to the project manager. |If I forgot something, well, you get the idea.

Description of Work: I am providing this comment to give fair warning to any other home owners before they waste their time with this company. I gave them an F review and the company replied with a statement that was very untrue to the circumstance. I originally called DFW Improved to come out to my house to give me a quote on having some drywall repaired and painted. Instead, Juan Benitez began to complain because we didn't call them out initially for some flooring repairs we had recently completed. Keep in mind, he knew he was only coming out to give a quote for drywall repair. That should have been our first red flag, but we continued to allow him to look at the repairs needed. Upon noticing that we were also in need of someone to make some repairs in our master bath, Juan offered to give a quote for those repairs as well. However, when the quote was sent to us, we were informed that he could not give us a separate quote for the walls and the bathroom. As another home owner mentioned in a recent review, it was as if they only wanted to see how much money we were willing to spend BEFORE giving us a quote for work to be completed. When we tried to get a quote sent to us for the wall repair ONLY, Juan replied that he was not interested in completing work for us. I was shocked and appalled to discover that they had lied about the situation in my previous review. Now ask yourself, is that a company you would feel comfortable doing business with?

We do not wish to continue this back-and-forth dialogue any further. We do not & will not ever run our our business the way this homeowner implies. We simply disagree with their recollection of the facts.

Description of Work: I met with Gary Horton to discuss the plans to modify my home. I wanted an outside wall, which contained two windows, a door and a fireplace removed to be replaced with French doors and three energy efficient windows. The roof was to be extended to provide cover for a screened in porch. The contract covered the specs for the doors and windows. The screens for the porch were to be in aluminum frames. Supporting posts for the porch were to be wrapped in hardie board and the porch area to be tiled. Inside, carpet and a section of wooden floor were to be removed and new engineered wood installed. |I was introduced to the Project Manager and was assured he would handle my construction. Gary went through the plans to be sure everyone was on the same page. |A 30-day project turned into a 3 month marathon! I understand delays to an extent but two months seemed quite excessive. Several delays caused by ordering the wrong product or failing to have materials (tile) on site. |The wall was demolished and the wall reframed and windows installed. Door was delivered and I pointed out that it was not the one specified. It was sent back and work stopped. Two sheets of plywood were nailed across the door opening and I waited for a week for the correct door to arrive. This was during a cold snap with temps below freezing. I used scatter rugs to keep draughts from coming under the framing and duct tape around the plywood and windows. Not a good situation. The second door arrived and I pointed out to the crew that it was still the wrong door. I had ordered an energy efficient door with low-e and argon gas. This door did not have the argon. Question: do I go ahead and keep the door which didn't meet specs, or go back to the plywood and wait for an indefinite period for the correct door? Because of the weather and the inconvenience I told them to install the door. I decided to check my windows, they had the low-e coating and argon gas but were single hung, not the double hung windows specified! I was told that it would take a month to get the correct windows. I decided to leave the windows in place and we negotiated a refund. |When I asked about hardie sheathing for the posts, I was told that they don't usually do that, and they would sand and paint them and it would be fine. The cedar was very rough and I had to ask them to repeat the sanding because I didn't want the family to get slivers and to have their clothes snagged. Having lived with the project I now wish I had insisted on hardie wrapped posts. The cedar still has a rough texture which is very hard to keep looking clean as it traps dirt and pollen. |The men who came in to install the wooden floors had no intention of incorporating an expansion joint. The manufacturer specifically said that the plans should not be laid for more then 30 ft without an expansion joint. I told the installers that I wanted that because I did not want to void any warranty on the product. Because of language difficulties I had to call their supervisor about my concerns. They did install the floor the correct way but they left a mess and their supervisor had to return later to finish tacking down carpet. |The patio door became an issue because I could see daylight between the two doors at the bottom. There were several attempts to correct it, but nothing happened until a rep came from the door manufacturer, and he fixed it in 15 minutes. This one problem was an issue for several weeks, leaving me feeling like I was being too picky because I wanted the doors to fit correctly. |The tiles for the outside porch were not ordered until they were needed and were unavailable and delayed the completion of the job for several weeks. |Gary had originally told me that the screened porch would have aluminum frames and I was pleased because I knew that they would be easy to fix if they became damaged. The Project Manager and carpenter didn't know what I was talking about and said that they always use rolls of screen fabric and tack down the edges with cedar strips. This means any holes in a screen will be a lot more difficult to fix. |The Project Manager was personable and responded to my texts, however at times forgetful and not as organized as he should have been. I felt the "vision" that Gary had put down on paper wasn't seen by the men doing the work. |I am satisfied with the quality of the work, especially their carpenter. I am disappointed with the amount of energy, time and oversight I had to provide to make sure it was done right. |I feel that although the finished construction looks very nice, I compromised on the quality of the original contract. I settled on lower quality windows and doors because of convenience and time constraints. I chose this company from information on Angie's List, and expected that for the amount of money they charged I would be able to rely on them to do the job within the time specified and with the materials specified, and without nagging from me! |Before I undertake any other renovation project I will make sure all materials and fixtures are on site before demo begins, and I will know it is up to me to do quality control.

Description of Work: Small bathroom remodel turned into a 5 month ordeal. We discussed the plan and moved forward with choosing a new toilet, sink cabinet and flooring. The project started out great, they were out within a week to refinish the bathtub. Then the problems began, they had to redo the sub-flooring because it was not done correctly the first time, which delayed the new flooring at least 2 weeks. The sink cabinet that was "approved" did not end up working with the current plumbing placement. No one realized this until after the granite was already cut. Since the granite was going to have to be re-cut, I choose to move forward with a pedestal sink. The project finally wrapped up, and although the team I worked with remained semi professional - I don't feel like the quality of work and craftsmanship that I was charged for represents a "professional company".
