Our house suffered a lot of damage from hail and wind back in March and April. DFW Improved was very quick to return my call (other companies never did after leaving messages). We scheduled a time for a representative to come out look at the job and discuss it. They worked closely with the insurance company and were extremely friendly as we discussed the options for replacement. They gave me options for two types of roof (as well as many different shingle colors). We decided to replace the fence and DFW Improved were great to work with as to our ideas for it. They quoted prices for a fence with and w/o steel posts as well as with different types of wood. Sample boards were left on our doorstep, too! Finally, they replaced our gutter system too - adding a larger spout to a section where I have noticed some problems. Throughout the whole process DFW Improved did a great job communicating with us (emails, calls and texts - depending on the size of the message). Through the different stages of the project, a manager would come out to make sure the work was being completed properly and ask our opinions. There was never any "pressure sale" in the whole process. The "after care" has been great, too. I found a nail in my front yard and they came out the next day to run a magnet through the grass. Also, they smoothed out bolt-head that sharp edge on the gate. An excellent company.

I was extremely impressed with the whole process. I was contacted within 12 hours of my e-mail inquiry,at which time a date was set to have a contractor come to my home to give me an estimate of the cost. They were very flexible and accommodated to my time schedule. Larry was very punctual and arrived right on time. He gave me the estimate, which I felt was very reasonable, and wrote up the contract right then and there...no having to wait until a later date. I was out of town for two weeks prior to the day when my work would be done...I was contacted by e-mail that morning to let me know exactly what time they would be arriving. I had to be at work for an unexpected meeting that day and then had several errands to run. When I arrived home later in the day, I was so pleased with the quality of the work that had been done. It looks absolutely amazing! I am so impressed with the whole experience, and I definitely plan to use DFW Improved/OK Improved on my next home improvement project.

This company was the "second runner-up" and we chose another company to do our major remodel/kitchen. In general, they were professional and responded promptly. Their design was less inspired than the company we chose and it cost $400 for the CAD design. There was also some reluctance on their part to have permits through the City of Dallas, which was my preference. One other factor that worked against them was that they had several "teams" working at once on remodels, whereas our chosen builder had only one project at a time.
Description of Work: Our remodel included a complete kitchen remodel with new appliances, some framing for a new opening in a wall and new hard wood floor.

I am a local realtor that is in need of a remodeling company not only for myself, but for my buyers and sellers, which I made very clear to DFW Improved. I'd interviewed DFW Improved for a small update/remodel on a bathroom in my home with my kitchen and master bath to be done by Christmas. The interview was on July 8th with a promise of a quote within a few days and I've yet to hear back or receive the quote. I don't feel that a client should have to call to remind a company to submit their bids for a job. On another note the other two contractors that I did not use got "A"'s from me and also referals to my new buyer's who are in need of updating their new homes. DFW Improved really dropped the ball.

Response from DFW Improved
The member contacted our offices on 7/5 requesting an appointment for some bathroom and kitchen work she needed done and a representative from our company met with her on 7/8 to discuss the projects. The question was asked during the meeting about the turnaround time on an estimate and our representative told her that it would only take a few days to get her a quote. However, during the meeting our representative asked her about budgets and discovered that her budget was not consistent with what she was asking to have done. Apparently there was a communication breakdown as he thought she understood that what she was requesting was beyond what he could do for the budget she had given him. He left the home with the understanding that she was going to either revise her project scope or wait until such a time as she could adjust her budget to meet the level of project scope she had described to him. We deeply regret the miscommunication with her as this is what led her to believe she needed to call and remind us about getting a quote. We pride ourselves on providing superior service to our clients and this includes timely return of phone calls, expediting pricing on projects and delivering a level of management that is unsurpassed by our competition. However, in this situation it seems we did in fact drop the ball when it came to communicating with the member about the project parameters and the budget required to achieve them. For this we do apologize.

I contacted Larry on Wednesday and they were here on time at 8:30 Friday morning to do the work. We got home from work and the job was completed and they did a GREAT job! The price was about $80 more than our first quote but we needed the room painted quicker than the other company could do it. They did great to get several coats on it to cover the dark blue. We're really pleased with what they did. Thanks to Larry, Andres and the rest of DFWImproved.
Description of Work: We had a small bedroom that needed to be painted (nursery for twins due in about a month). The room was a dark blue before and we had it painted a much lighter color.

I received two quotes - one from DFWI and one from a competitor. The difference between the two quotes was less than $100 which I thought was amazing given the variety of projects that I was having done. I could have saved money by picking and choosing between the two or by hiring individual contractors for each type of work but chose DFWI for their professionalism and to have a single foreman, Greg, to work with. Greg, and Brian, were both great. The bottom line is that I would hire DFWI again, however, next time I would oversee the project a bit closer. For example, they did a great job of power-washing the patios but did this step first instead of last after the other projects. I would use them again for everything except painting.
Description of Work: Ours was a multi-project including: (1) paint exterior and make minor trim repair, (2) remove and re-pour a section of our concrete driveway, (3) repair a roof leak, (4) lay floor tile in two rooms, (5) pressure wash two patios, (6) texture and paint one interior room as well as a section of the garage.

I got stuck with a new guy (Chase) and the initial estimate was delayed. However, once I spoke with Gary St.John and Garrett Lambert, things got moving quick! I received a written estimate, paid 1/2 down, had my roof replaced in a day and paid the balance the following day. It took about 5 days to do the whole deal. I was very impressed with the communications from the owner and his team. My only complaint was the roofers hired to do the job took a little longer to finish. Cleanup wasn't quite as clean as I'd have liked... I found nails and small debris in my yard after the fact but it wasn't too bad. Lastly, I was able to apply their 10% "Angie's List" coupon to the job and upgrade my roof for NO extra money. Overall, I'd use these guys again!

Jason Bailey provided the original estimate of the work to be performed. The quote was clear and satisfactorily detailed. The subcontractor who completed the work was thorough and fairly neat. I also felt very fairly treated as they agreed the fence required additional coats of stain in order to have a good appearance and did so without any reluctance. The fence looks great and we had Jason follow up on a few items to be corrected prior to paying the final invoice. There is one more trip to see if some cracking in the exterior door finish can be corrected (I am being very picky here) and I am sure Jason will follow up with that. We will use DFW Improved for our major projects given our positive experience with them.
Description of Work: We purchased a home that was built originally in 2008 but needed some exterior painting and staining work. We also had our exterior fence restained. The project was considered a "test drive" by us in advance of some future more significant projects we have for our home. We did obtain a total of 3 quotes for the painting work (and one electrical issue) and found DFW Improved to be competitive.

DFW Improved was one of the two final contractors chosen for our project. Gary St. John made an initial trip out to assess the scope of the project, and to meet with us. The first thing I noticed was his manner of getting to know us, the house, and where we wanted to go with our project. Gary clearly made an effort to find out our tastes, and preferences, and he did not try to "sell" us anything. He was matter-of-fact, and really listened to us, but asked relevant questions. By the time our second meeting occurred, we decided to hire Gary's company because he was very much in-tune with our goals and our budget. Gary next introduced us to our Project Manager, Corey. Gary, Corey, and my wife, spent a great deal of time making selections on everything from tile, to paint, to cabinet faces. The final budget was approved, and the project moved forward with surprising speed. It was efficient, not rushed. The sub-contractors were all very good, but the Painters are the ones that stood out the most. This was the most meticulously prepared painting project I've ever seen, and the result is amazing. Again, all of Gary's sub-contractors did excellent work, but the painters were the best. The Project Manager, Corey, was also very good. Despite a few minor missteps (nobody's perfect), Corey was thoroughly engaged from start to finish. Although my wife and I were traveling during most of the project, Corey kept us informed. Corey also went “above and beyond” - Since my wife was working out-of-state, Corey went so far as to go to a tile store, lay out our chosen tile in multiple patterns, and then photograph the different patterns so my wife could pick the pattern she wanted. On another occasion, when I was out-of-state, Corey even set my DVR to record a basketball game so I didn't miss seeing it! During this project, there were other principals involved at DFW Improved. We had the pleasure of working with Sherrie St. John (the straw that stirs the drink), and Gary's business partner, Ron. Everyone we met could not have been more professional, and personable. My wife and I cannot believe how beautiful our house looks. DFW Improved did an outstanding job, and, from start to finish, the project only took 39 days. This was, for us, a very well run, well executed project, that exceeded all expectations in terms of money spent, and the results of the work. No project goes off perfectly, and neither did this one, but any issues, or mistakes, were addressed appropriately and fairly. (The issues were few.) DFW Improved stands behind its work, and was fair and honest in its dealings with us. We have some exterior work (roofing) to be done, as well as a major renovation of the Master Bath area; Gary St. John, and his company will handle those in the future. DFW Improved has earned our trust, and we highly recommend them.
Description of Work: DFW Improved did a complete kitchen makeover, along with a makeover of 2 bathrooms (1 Full Bath, 1 Half Bath). They also added wood flooring to the Living Room, Dining Room, and Hall, plus painted the entire house, inside and out. In the Kitchen, they installed granite countertops, a tumbled stone backsplash, under mount sink, under cabinet lighting, overhead can lighting, crown molding, and new cabinet doors. DFW Improved also constructed a new cabinet that enclosed the double oven and the refrigerator. New Kitchen Aid appliances were installed including a refrigerator, a double oven, microwave and hood combination, and a gas cooktop. DFW Improved ran a new gas line for the cooktop. 2 bathrooms were completely gutted and all new vanities, toilets, plus a tub and shower, were installed. Both bathroom floors received new tile, and the shower was also tiled. New lighting was installed in the full bath. For Flooring, DFW Improved installed 18x18 porcelain tile in the family room, half bath, utility room, breakfast room and kitchen. Hand scraped wood floors were installed in the living and dining rooms, the front entry, and the hallway to the bedrooms. A new door to the garage was also installed. The entire interior, with the exception of the Master Bedroom, was painted. (The Master Bedroom is DFW Improved's next project at our house.) Minor repairs were made to exterior wood areas, and the exterior was painted.

I was experiencing major leaks that were damaging the interior of my house. I called several companies for quotes including DFW Improved. Although they were not the lowest bidder, the bid was competitive. I chose them based on their 5 year warranty, recommended shingle manufacturer and the proposed solution to the leaks which included building a "cricket" on the roof section with the worst leaking problem. My main interface was with Garrett who I found to be professional and always available via cell phone or e-mail. A large crew showed up on schedule and completed the job in one day. The roof looks good and after two storms there is no evidence of leaks. I'm pleased with the quality of the job and crew did a thorough clean-up. There was one very minor issue when I noticed a roof vent that had not been replaced due to a communication issue. I called Garrett and he said they would take care of it. Sure enough, a couple days later the crew foreman came out and replaced it himself. I will recommend this company to friends and am planning on having them perform some interior work in a few weeks.

This was a multi project job with additional work added after the project was started. Gary Simms and Bruce McCloud were extremely professional. Bruce would make several inspection visits to insure the work was being done correctly and to my satisfaction. I was kept abreast of the project's schedule on a daily basis and the job was completed as promised. The workmanship was excellent and I was also given a good deal of assistance from Kristie on choosing colors and designs. The workers who did the work were friendly and left the house clean upon their departure. Overall, I was extremely pleased doing business with these folks and will definitely consider them as my first option in the future.

I had a good feeling about DFW Improved the first time I met Gary St. John. He is not a "slick salesman". He listened to what we wanted to do, made suggestions, and involved his architect at an early stage so that we would feel comfortable going in to this big job. Once the work started there was not one day (except for Sundays) that someone wasn't working on the bathroom. I appreciated this because once you start remodeling you want it done in a timely manner. There was daily communication on what was going to happen, what was happening and what came next. Every worker from carpenter to plumber to painter was professional, friendly and clean. I felt very comfortable leaving them in the house when I wasn't there. And in the end we have a gorgeous bathroom. We've gotten many compliments and after having used it for over a month I can say that everything works, looks great and I wouldn't change a thing.
Description of Work: DFW Improved did a complete remodel of our master bathroom. We had new flooring, walls, doorways, plumbing, electrical, insulation...you name it and it was done.

Jason Bailey (salesperson) bid the project and worked to ensure a quality project for our budget. We asked for one addition during the project and agreed upon a price before hand. The end project cost the amount we agreed upon less, $50 to cover the cost of a scale that was inadvertently broken by a workman. Throughout the project, I received up-dates as well as phone calls or emails from John Dunaway (who coordinated/oversaw the work crew) as to what and when I could expect the following day. If their had not been a delay on carpet delivery by the carpet company - the project would have been completed on time. Although I expected dust due to tearing out and building walls - the workmen took exceptional care to keep things cleaned. I was very pleased overall and we hope to use DFW Improved for a large scale outdoor project.
Description of Work: DFW Improved expanded our closet, by removing an existing wall and rebuilding another wall. They completed finished out the closet including adding electrical, moving shelves, putting in doors, carpeting, texturing, painting, and installing a pre-purchased closet system.

I would appreciate them for the whole project. We had some minor issues but nothing major. We had some issues with them to the point but don't get me wrong, where I would have gone to different contractors. As far as I can tell the company is a good company. My contractor was fairly new. Couple of times I had fairly major issues and then I called the guy above him and he came out and gave me his card and asked to call him if there was any problem and so I did in couple of occasions. I felt that it was fairly expensive and I probably could have had the work done cheaper but I felt like DFW did a better job. I've had small finer things that I had re done and in fact I had the tile guy here this last week because he was here doing the job for the next door neighbor. He's just a nice guy. They were good. When we first got three quotes we said no but looking back on and taking in the perspective and telling ourselves that we didn't have any huge issues. Then we both decided that we'll use them again.
Description of Work: I had DFW Improved to re do our bathroom in June of 2010. It was a complete gut and remodel. They did everything like ripping the canals out and re putting it, free standing shower, so we had a big project. They did drywall, mirror with glass, marble and granite, painting and lots of plumbing work. They put in a glass block window on the wall of the shower it was around three by four foot or two by four foot area.

The workmanship was exceptional. True craftsman. They also cleaned the work area when they were done and made sure that I was satisfied. Corey was a true professional and very responsive when I need to get in touch with him. The only thing that was of issue was the timing of the sub-contractors. Always difficult to manage but it could have been better. I would still hire them again though and recommend them for anyone that needs to get a job done and a job done well.

Garrett from DFW improved came out the the house and I showed him all the work that needed to be done. He gave me an estimate/proposal. I agreed, and Cory was assigned to be the project manager. On the projects that they do not do, like appliance repair and HVAC repair they sugested someone else to call. I did all the scheduling with Cory and he also came out to check on the work. When I pointed out a few things that needed to be changed or fixed, it was immediately taken care of by Cory. Overall it was a very pleasent worry free experience.
Description of Work: Cory was our project manager for multiple home repairs. We needed roof repair, inside painting, wood floor repair, and trim work on cabinets. It was so comforting to have Cory deal with the contractors so I didn't have to. All the contractors that he sent to the house provided excellent quality of work. If I had any problems, then Cory got it fixed. I will never, ever, have work done on my house without a project manager like Cory.

They were thorough, and cut approximately 9 large holes in my bedroom ceiling, attempting to find source of leak. Paid for additional work, leak was NOT found. Their final option was to do additional work, at considerable additional cost. I declined. Had leak repaired with their competitor. Called DFW Improves to complete their original work, by repairing the multiple holes in ceiling and repainting room. They did so, and tradesmen did good work, at no additional cost. Frustrated that leak was never found or fixed by DFW Improves, however impressed with their follow-through. Raising my original rating to a C, because of their good follow-through.
Description of Work: UPDATE: True to their word, once I had the leak repaired (by their competitor), they DID come back to repair all the holes they had cut, and repainted molding, ceilings and walls impacted by their work at no additional cost. Their sheetrock/tecture guy and painter, were top notch. I'm frustrated (as I'm sure, are they) that they could not repair the leak for their original estimate (plus additional money for additional attempts), however, I can say that their follow up was stellar. For that, I give them credit. A year after beginning this project, my home still has a leak. For a while, they were responsive, and continued to return to explore options. However, the source of the leak has never been found, despite quite a lot of repairs. They've had immediate access to my home at all times, and I have paid in full and on-time. I am working weekly with Dave/Greg on a resolution, but their most recent communication is to charge a great deal more money, and they have never actually diagnosed the source of the leak. I will wait to see how this matter is resolved before sharing an update score. Not pleased with resolution at this point though. Greg and the folks at DFW got the job because of the thoroughness and fair price of their bid, but they earned the job with their responsivness and attention to detail. My home, like others in my complex, has had some minor leaks. However, finding the source has been a MAJOR effort for many homeowners. DFW Improved, worked diligently and quickly to find sources, and make repairs. They were careful to clean, they provided quality work. They did it for a competitive price. And they even completed additional projects which I added to the initial bid, without complaint. I chose them in large part because of the high ratings here on Angie's list, and the specific comments made by other clients on their thoroughness and quality of work.
