The job was done fantastically, very professional. From the bid process to the work and clean up, DFW Improved provided outstanding service and work. Craig handled the bid and oversight of the project and was easy to get in touch with and made sure we understood what was being done and made sure we were happy with the results. I highly recommend working with Hector as the construction manager and his primary employee Luis. Both of them are exceptional and take extreme pride in their work and are prompt and work very hard. We couldn't have been more pleased with the outcome and are very satisfied with the quality and price for DFW Improved's service. I plan to use them again late this summer for a master bathroom makeover and will post results when it is done.

DFW Improved truly understood our needs and our preferences right from the beginning, and they managed to exceed even our most demanding expectations. Our project manager, Jeff Renfrow, has been an absolute delight. He is 100% committed to our satisfaction - he completely understood what we wanted, and he went above and beyond every single time to deliver on that understanding. He is a delightful person - always positive and tireless. We nicknamed him our "quality warrior", because he always made sure every last detail was right. His communication skills are tremendous - we were not living in the house during the renovation, so we relied on his reports to make sure we knew everything that was happening, and he kept us completely in the loop. He was always available to us, always got back to us quickly, and always was totally honest about what was going on. We will truly miss his presence when we are finished. The design folks (Greg and Kristie) were visionary; they helped us think of ideas, both big and small, that we never would have imagined on our own. Almost everything we had done was totally custom work - both due to the sometimes unusual requirements of the existing house, but also because of our own preferences. We are, admittedly, extremely picky and we often demand more than the typical off-the-shelf solution. This is an important house for us, and we threw DFW Improved some real challenges. The level and type of work we required was very demanding, and tearing into an old house can easily uncover lurking problems that must be addressed before moving ahead. We uncovered a great deal of game-changing details, but DFW Improved completely coped. We had one major change-order when we decided half-way into the project to completely tear out and rebuild the master bath (including moving walls, etc.) Although we had hundreds of small changes along the way, they never gave us any hassle about that whatsoever - they "rock and rolled" with everything we threw at them. Just stunning client service. In addition to the amazing management/direction/design help from the DFW Improved folks, their trades-people were really terrific. They also understood the nature of the job - and they had great input for us, as well. The quality of the workmanship we found was beyond even our expectations - everyone involved in the project had a commitment to extreme quality, which was exactly what we wanted. They were also - to a person - some of the nicest people you could meet. Painters, electricians, carpenters - everyone was positive, friendly and extremely professional. They all went the extra mile for us - often without being asked, and in a million little detailed ways: fixing a pocket door in an unrelated part of the house, just because it didn't slide correctly, replacing an old handle on a sliding glass door, coming back to change the finish on one entire room after we decided we didn't like our original selection - many times we just came in and found some little detail made perfect, without anyone even having been asked. The end product far exceeds our expectations - so much so, that at the final walk-through meeting with Ron and Jeff, we spent most of the time talking about the next big projects we want them to start on (including replacing/renovating a few thousand feet of deck space, and some unusual interior custom cabinetry.) We are more than happy with DFW Improved - we are thrilled.
Description of Work: We bought a 65 year old lake house last summer. It is a unique property, but it needed extensive renovation before we could move in. It was a challenging project - the property slopes dramatically toward the lake, and the house is very different from most DFW construction. Some areas had been updated in the past 60 years, but some areas were circa 1955, (including electrical wiring from that era.) We needed interior and exterior walls moved, new areas constructed, bathroom, kitchen/laundry renovations, including new appliance and plumbing sites. We needed a bit of everything - electrical, plumbing, carpentry, tile and wood flooring, roof work and windows were all part of the job. We looked at many, many contractors to help manage the areas of renovation and remodeling; we chose DFW Improved. They had great Angie's list reviews, but even more striking was our initial meeting with Ron from DFWI. They had truly wonderful ideas about how to accomplish the functional changes we wanted in the house, and some very creative, well-thought-out approaches. From the initial proposal, DFW Improved made all the other builders/remodelers seem almost lifeless.

We worked with Brian. He arrived on time as schedule each time for both the estimate and the work. Brian explained what needed to be done in detail and how the work would correct the problem we had that caused the water damage. He was very thorough in explaining the work we needed and we felt the estimate was very reasonable. Brian worked non-stop after arriving to complete the work. When he had to leave to get some additional materials, he let us know he was leaving and why and returned promptly. He cleaned up everything upon completion.

I tried to get 3 bids for the two houses. DFW Improved was the only one to respond quickly and get a quote back to me in a timely manner and the way I wanted the quote written up. I had to call 9 other contractors to get the final 2 bids. One bid was over 10% higher with less work than DFW and the second bidder expected me to go get the doors, and all the paints. Once I added the cost of those items, their bid was close to DFW Improved but I am not trained to do these purchases along with the time to run around to find these products. Isn?t that what you pay a contractor to do? This process of getting the 3 bids took over 45 days and DFW Improved knew what I was doing and stood by me and the bid. John would check on me to see how the other bids were coming along. Once I chose DFW Improved, John brought in his Project Manager Aaron to see the two projects first hand and could see the challenges of the project. Once the work was ready to go, the door and wood was delivered and Aaron came by to make sure the items were properly ordered and delivered. They showed up when they said they would and immediately started on replacing the door and the entire door. The next day the painters, brick workers arrived to complete the project. All the work took only 2 days and when I ran into an additional problem with an old roof vent that was leaking, Aaron came out immediately to see what they could do to replace the vent for me. They were able to locate the better vent that I wanted installed and Aaron came out the next day to replace it for me. That is going above and beyond to take care of their customers. I would recommend them to anyone. I really appreciated their integrity, honesty and the will to make sure my mother and I were pleased with their work.
Description of Work: I had DFW work on two homes for me. One was to hang a front door onto an existing frame and the other house needed exterior painting, brick planter wall repaired, and hang a complete new exterior door. The team that worked on the two doors did a great job. They took the time to make sure the doors were hung properly, lined up and worked without any problems. The door only job was a challenge because the door was slightly smaller than the original door. They got the door to work within the current frame. (Previous contractor had me order a replacement door only, said it would be easier than replacing the frame and door. NEVER AGAIN). The other door that was a complete replacement looks great and fit better than the original door. This door fit like a glove once they corrected the original builder’s mistakes. The painters had a difficult task since there wasn't a lot of wood on the house with a lot of ladder work. They sealed around all the windows and doors, and any wall penetrations. All roof vents, pipes and chimney pipes were sealed and painted. They went above and beyond my expectations. The house looks great. The brick planter wall had many breaks due to the ground shifting and they were able to replace the bricks and close the gaps where you couldn’t tell there was any problem with the wall or the ground.

DFW Improved was fantastic. Jason came over late in the evening to accommodate my schedule to look at the bathroom and give me an estimate. He and Garrett (my project manager) were diligent about finding the right equipment we would need before starting the job. When I couldn't find the faucets I wanted, they found them for me. They insisted on having all the supplies ready before starting so there wouldn't be any delays. Once the work started, all the workers were professional, efficient, and courteous. Garrett laid out the timeline of how the project would go for us. Everything went as planned. The tile guys were absolutely fantastic. They were so meticulous it felt as if they were working on their own home. Everyone showed up on time, and the workers often stayed late in order to stay on schedule. Whenever I had a question, either Jason or Garrett was always available. They answered their phones in the evenings and on the weekends. They finished ahead of schedule, and the bathroom looks unbelievably good. I had a different contractor hired by my insurance company doing other work in my house at the same time. It was like night and day. DFW improved was everything I could hope for, and the other guys were not showing up, messing things up, and not answering calls. I could not be happier with DFW improved. In the middle of my bathroom project, there was a rain storm and I discovered a roof leak, with water dripping through my ceiling. The DFW improved guys went right up on the roof, found the leak, and put a tarp on it for me. I called Garrett and he sent a roofer over to check it out. Two days later it was fixed. I have another big project I've been putting off for years. I'm going ahead with it and I'm planning to use DFW Improved for it because this bathroom project went so well.

.DWF Improved did an excellent job and we are very pleased with the outcome! The job was extensive and detailed. They responded quickly to changes we wanted to make along the way in the process and the employees and contractors were professional and great to work with. We especially lliked the painting contractor who kindly (when I inquired) assisted me with some color choices that made a world of improvement in the outcome! He even specially mixed some colors for me. The quality of the workmanship and materials is great and we love our home more than ever!! Although the process took longer than we had hoped, it was no fault on their part. As with any major renovation, some additional challenges came up along the way to completion. DFW Improved kept us informed in the process and the problem was resolved to our satisfaction. (Leaky shower). This company is honest and professional. I would highly recommend them to anyone!!

Tore out and installed new carpet through the house and refinished and replanced hardwood flooring. Tiled masterbath and secondary bath. They painted the interior of the home and exterior.

DFW Improved came in the middle of several estimates. That's why I initially chose them. I'm glad I did. The esimator/sales person, Donny, proved to be really professional making me feel he really understand what was important to me (staying within budget). He was also very prompt at responding to any questions via email, without being sales-y and gave me confidence that DFW Improved could complete the job within budget and by the deadline. Once the project got underway, I worked with the project manager, Matt, who was simply terrfic. He kept me informed about which subcontractors were coming to the house on which day, etc. He addressed every detail, even the minor ones, never making me feel my request was too small or trivial. Throughtout the project, he was responsive, reliable and professional. He made sure the subcontractors cleaned up the area at the end of the day, that all work was completed to my satisfaction and that I was a happy customer when the bathroom was complete. I had a good experience working with DFW Improved and highly recommend this company.

Response from DFW Improved
We apologize for not being able to complete the customer's request due to her location & our man power in that area. Unfortunately if we do not feel we can service the client efficiently we elect to pass on the opportunity. Yes we do service her area in remodeling projects, but we only have one person on staff who handles the minor roof repairs therefore he could not make it out to her location in a timely manner. We are very sorry she feels like her business is not important to us, because that's not the case. However we just logically could not fill this need.

Weather caused some delays in getting the painting finished, but overall DFW was prompt and efficient. The employees are friendly and knowledgable.
Description of Work: Jason Bailey met me soon after my initial call to see my home and provide an estimate. Thereafter, he brought his "window guy" and "gutter guy" and crew foreman to the house to make sure I met them. The scope of the project changed some over time--specifically, when crew foreman discovered that I had some water coming in under shingles (my roof was replaced two years ago), and alerted me to that fact so that I could call on my roof warranty. DFW power washed and painted all the painted exterior of my house, recaulked all windows, replaced four double-paned windows, and made some repairs, such as to a porch ceiling damaged caused by the installation of a sound system. When it was discovered that the "window guy" could not exactly match the tinting on my windows, DFW did not try to talk me into a close match, but rather told me I should contact the original tinting company.

I used Angie's List to select DFW Improved. I did not request estimates from other contractors due to the small scale of the repairs. The entire estimate, award, scheduling and payment process was conducted via email due to the small scale and simplicity of the job. The sub contractors for DFW Improved arrived on time and were very professional. I provided the sub contractors access to the work area and instructions for closing up when they completed the work and left them unattended while I went to work. When I returned in the evening the repairs had been completed to my satisfaction, and the work area was clean. Very professional job!

Overall the job went very well. The outcome exceeded our expectations, both in quality and in looks. We are very happy with our bath. There are however some items that we had to work through. For example: DFW Improved does not customarily use a residential construction contract to outline the duties, obligations, and remedies of both parties. Instead they prefer to work from their quote sheet. A contract was important to me because I had never used them before, I watch DIY's Holmes on Homes, and I wanted to be sure we both were in agreement on what was to be done and just as importantly what was not to be done. In the end, they accepted a contract I drafted, so the outcome was satisfactory. The contract specified daily start and end times, required inspections, names of contractors provided to us, work conditions, as well as a completion date, etc. DFW preferred to quote the job from a materials list without itemized line item pricing. I pushed them for the line item pricing so I could compare against other quotes. They were uncomfortable providing the detailed quote but finally did. They prefer to work more on a total job fixed pricing. I preferred not to do this for comparability and so that we could avoid potential disagreements on changes later on. If we had it to do over again, we would hire our own designer. Kristie does very good quality, and has a fantastic eye, but is not as organized as we would have liked. She repeatedly lost pictures, showed up unprepared, and reopened decisions we had already made with her. As said, we love what we eventually choose with her, but the process was painful. Here is a summary of the job in general: Jason Bailey did the first walk through and based on that asked us general questions about the types of materials we wanted him to quote. He then left and developed the quote in a day or two. We took Jason's quote to their showroom so we could see the specific type and grade of materials he had quoted. We also met with Kristie to discuss alternatives and taste choices in general. After the quote was agreed and the contract signed, Jason introduced us to Chad McCormick (the very best by the way). Chad and Jason walked through our bath with us to ensure understanding of the job. At that time, they also introduced us to the guy (Erin I think) who would do the demo. The demo crew started their work by putting down protective covering on our hard wood floors. They also taped up plastic covering on doorways. In addition they completely covered all space in our master bedroom which was close to the bath. I have never before seen this quality of care in what is typically a very, very dirty part of the job. Once demo'd, Chad brought in various contractors and crews to install the new materials and fixtures. Some were employees and others were contractors they appeared to have worked with often and were known by Chad. This is another area where DFW really shined. The crews in and out of our house respected our property, kept things clean, did not use our things, and were as quiet as a construction crew can be. They get big marks on their choice of help. After the installations were nearly complete, the did a deep clean to return that portion of the house to a usable condition. They did this early since we had a small party and wanted things presentable. Chad was very accommodating and the place was very clean. Good job here too. Lastly, after all the work was complete, we did a walk through and noticed a couple of very minor things to fix, and they promptly addressed them. In summary, we will absolutely use them again when we do our kitchen. Everyone there is nice and their work outstanding. They get a solid recommendation from me and I grade critically. My wife who was working with them on a daily basis agrees. Good stuff.
Description of Work: Kristie Uzelac at DFW Improved provided design services and helped us select materials for our bathroom remodel. The design selections included a large glass shower enclosure, travertine shower and floor tiles, framed mirrors above the double vanity, granite counter tops, rubbed bronze fixtures, and a beautiful privacy glass stained window.. Jason Bailey did the estimation and managerial oversight. Chad McCormick led the construction crews and contractors in our home. He was our primary contact and led the crews to demo our existing floor tiles (ours were really ugly 1983 looking kitchen tiles), shower enclosure, cabinet countertops, and whirlpool tub. After gutting the bathroom down, leaving only our vanity cabinets and commode (both of which were in good shape), Chad installed all the materials and fixtures we had selected. After the job was completed, Chad called in a cleaning crew to deep clean all the surrounding area, even including steam cleaning the carpet in master bedroom and walk in closet. In addition, Chad did clear all items that had been on my very picky punch list. The completed bath took the space from 1983 to today's high end. It looks fabulous and was put together in a high quality manner. A coworker of mine commented that our bath now looks like those you see on TV when they are profiling multi-million dollar homes.

We are in the process of moving to the Dallas area. Since we are new to the area we used Angieslist to find craftsmen to perform interior painting, carpeting, laminate flooring and granite counter tops. Our first contact was Donny Armstrong with DFW Improved. He met us at the agreed time and place. Spent time discussing our needs and wants. Measured the areas and within three days had his proposal submitted. He stayed in contact and his pricing was fair. We will definitely keep this Company in mind for future work.

It was a great experience. They were helpful and were so flexible as the project grew. They were happy to make the changes and updates I requested. They were very accommodating.
Description of Work: The project grew from the original bid. We started out tearing down the hearth on my fireplace. Then we added tiling, cleaning the old fireplace and laying granite in place of the old hearth. In the middle of this, we took out the popcorn in my living room, dining room and hall. They also painted my master bedroom.

They were very professional and did a great job. We went with them because they had good ratings on Angie's List. We also liked that they were able to do the work while we were out of town, and they finishing the job in the time given. They were very thorough with their estimate, and there were no surprises. We would for sure use them again for larger projects. They might be too pricey for some and for handymen type jobs. Overall we were very pleased working with them and loved the finished product of their work.

After an initial meeting with their representative on Sept. 26 (she was 2 hours late), we set up a second meeting for her to take more pictures and measurements on Oct. 7. This meeting was cancelled twice that day and rescheduled for Oct.11. On this day we discussed colors, tile, flooring, etc. When I hadn't heard back from her in several weeks, I again called and she returned for a third visit in November with an engineer to look at the ceiling vaulting project. I was told she would be in touch the following week with estimates. It is now January and I am still waiting.
Description of Work: I originally contacted them in mid September to give me an estimate on a master bathroom remodeling, vaulting of the family room ceiling, painting kitchen cabinets, masonry work on outdoor kitchen, replacing laundry room floor.

Response from DFW Improved
The member's have every reason to be upset with our company. Unfortunately the team member from DFW Improved that they dealt with did not perform to our expectations. This person is no longer with our company. One of the owners of DFW Improved spoke to the client earlier this week and expressed our regret for the extremely poor level of service delivered on behalf of our company and apologized for the inconvenience's they endured. We take a great deal of pride in delivering a high level of service to everyone that contacts our company whether they become a client or not. This incident is not an example of the norm for our company as our reputation on Angie's List will substantiate but regrettably we let these folks down.

We contracted with DFW Improved to do a Kitchen remodel that was do to a leaky pipe that caused water damage.I had originally talked to Craig, but then he never returned any of my calls. When I called to complain, one of the owners, Gary, said he would take over my job. He talked really well, but he wasn't very responsive either. We finally got the job started about 1 month later. I blame DFW improved for half of the delay time. We had them replace the water heater, repair some pipes in the garage, replace some wallboard in the garage and the kitchen. We also had them replace the backsplash and put all of the appliances in. Then they painted everything (walls and ceiling) in the entire downstairs. The tile people were great, wallboard people did a good job and painters did a great job. Only problem was they didn't clean up and left while residue over all my side yard. The plumber was a joke. He didn't install the water heater correctly and even put a slight dent in it. Then he refused to make it good. He just blew it off saying that it was installed already and couldn't do anything about it. He then installed the garbage disposal but didn't put in the rubber seal and had to come back to install it. It was setup so he would come out twice (once for the water hear and pipes and the other for the kitchen). He had to come out 4 times, because he kept making mistakes. We literally had to force him to do the work that we had contracted DFW to do. Very unprofessional. When DFW improved installed my new stovetop, they did a horrible job under the cabinet, taking up more room then they had to. Also, we had problems with the appliance installs and had to watch the people constantly to make sure they did what they were contracted to do. They even left the door open and we had to chase down the dogs, after we told them to NOT leave the door open!
Description of Work: We contracted with DFW Improved to do a Kitchen remodel that was do to a leaky pipe that caused water damage. We used them as the General Contractor. He had tile work (backplash), painting (walls and ceilings) , re-stain of cabinets, wallboard replacement, wall repair, appliance installs, water heater install and some other plumbing work to be done. They also had to finish tearing out our old pantry so the cabinet could install a new custom one. We had our own cabinet people to do the cabinets and own own countertop people. I gave DFW improved good marks for always being there when promised and that the Project Manager that they assigned to us was very responsive. I won't use the DFW Improved again because of their subcontractors.

Response from DFW Improved
We recognize the homeowner's initial frustration with having a flood like this in her home. The homeowner decided she was going to manage her own project & in doing so had different contractors in her home for a few different projects within her insurance scope. She had the insurance adjuster call our staff to negociate her claim even though were were not contracted to handle all aspects of the project. After doing this for several weeks back & forth we were able to start her project. This is the reason for the delay in start time. After starting her project she became very difficult even to say that the liscensed plumber didn't know how to plumb a water heater & she had more knowledge than the master liscensed plumber. Also she made reference to the pumber having to return 4 times. This was as result of her countertop contractor & cabinet contractor (not us) had not finished their parts of the work & this is normal construction process to go back & hook up after cabinets & countertops are in. Again, the homeowner not completely understanding the construction process forced her to become fustrated. Also the homeowner supplied the plumbing fixture which did not function properly. She had to supply a 2nd fixture that the plumber had to come back out to install (again). We had difficulty doing our job efficiently as the homeowner did not move their personal belongings away from the wall to allow us to paint. Going as far as us having the painters showing up to the home to work & the homeowner sent them away due to the fact she had not upheld her end of the agreement in supplying the paint. This forced the construction schedule to all be pushed back & delayed. She also had all her dogs running throughout the home during construction & the painting process & they were constantly getting in the way. We stand behind our work 100% and are committed to the best quality possible. The homeowner makes mention of the quality of work, however this is first mentioning we have heard of any issues. If the homeowner has issues with the project we would have been/are more than happy to address them. The homeowner gave us poor marks on punctuality however mentions that we were alway on time. We do not feel this is a honest & fair assement of this job and how it progressed.

It's not very often that I feel compelled to leave a review and feel like a company and/or service provider warrants an all "A" review, but with Donny Armstrong and the crew at DFW Improved, an A may not even be enough. My wife and I purchased a home in the North Dallas area that needed quite a bit of work. I personally wasn't worried, because finding a contractor that could remodel an entire home in a month shouldn't be a problem, right? (this is the part where I should say no, but I was actually right which earned me alot of kuddos). Because I was one thousand miles away, I was placed quite a bit of trust in Donny and his crews to get the job done sight-unseen and they did not disappoint. Donny came out on time and did the consultation within 24 hours of my first call. He was thorough and walked the house with my mother (who I had to send in my stead because I couldn't fly into town in time) and I received his estimate within 48 hours of his initial visit and they began work the next week. The necessary repairs and changes were extensive and included: Wallpaper removal (large kitchen and bathrooms) Whole-home paint Sheetrock repair Water and fire damage repair Kitchen Countertops Closet remodels Carpet replacement Masonry/mortar repair Bathroom fixture replacement Light fixture replacement In retrospect, I essentially gave DFW Improved some nice flooring and told them to build me a house around it and they came through. Donny followed up after each and every project and gave us advice when we required it. My wife and I wanted our new home to be perfect and something that we could be proud and happy to live in as a couple of homebodies, and Donny gave us exactly what we wanted, impeccably. We gave them a key and an empty home and they somehow managed to make our vision of our new home a reality. It is a breath of fresh air to find a company, crew, and person that keeps his or her word particularly in this industry. I won't go into the headaches endured and possibly averted before I found these guys on Angies List, but if you have a large scale remodel (or even a small project) you NEED someone you can trust to do what they promise; to be trustworthy and prompt; and to be priced accurately and be willing to work within a budget. DFW Improved, in my experience, exemplifies all of those characteristics and more.
