This was my first service set up since buying my Angie's List membership and I am SO HAPPY! I was a little nervous buying one of the "deals" or coupons for a $99 drain clean out, especially since I had to list 3 days and times and I really only wanted my first choice. So, I took a chance, after buying it, to call, on a Sunday night, the company. And lo and behold, a very nice woman answered, and booked the appointment for my first choice - the following morning! She confirmed that I would be called by the tech before coming out, and the guarantee if they were late, etc etc. And sure enough, the next day, I got a phone call from the "office" that the tech was coming out from Rockwall. And Charley arrived and was very professional, and nice. He explained what he would be doing, and wore those little shoe booties in the house. He was neat and clean and finished promptly. No upselling - just a recommendation for a possible water filter, which I don't mind. It is good to learn about these things. I would call them back anytime and especially ask for Charley again!

The tech took care of the leaking pipe. However, I paid over $250 for him just to come out and quote me an outrageous price for repairing a leaking pipe. When you're already $250 in, you have not much of a choice. To be fair, it was after hours. But I think it is outrageous to charge close to $700 for a job that took less then an hour and there were minimal parts involved.

This provider is extremely good about punctuality and calling back. I called them after buying a Big Deal. They immediately scheduled me for the following week. I received a call the day prior to the appointment to confirm the time and a second call the day of to reconfirm. The plumber came out on time and did a thorough job. Fixed the minor issues we had with the toilet and explained that a few things that we were looking to do would require a rebuild down the road. However, he suggested not doing the work right then due to the good condition of most of the parts. I will recommend these guys in the future.

The plumber arrived, worked as promised, didn't find hidden costs, and were professional. I can't ask for any more than that. I have used Benjamin Franklin Plumbing in the past (the ice storm in January 2009 blew out an outside wall and they were the only ones who were willing to brave the storm to fix the damage. It was expensive (what plumber isn't), but the work was warrantied (something others wont do) and we haven't had an issue in the five years since.

It went well. The technician was there as scheduled and examined both toilets. He found problems in both and explained in detail what the problems were. We elected to have both toilets replaced. Since this visit, we have had Ben Franklin at the house to check out another problem The technician again explained the situation in detail and saved us a lot of money. We are very pleased with the work by Benjamin Franklin and will hire them again.

The service was fine. They are a little expensive but they are fine. They did a good job.

What a disappointment! After a previous scheduling fiasco, I received a nice call from Benjamin Franklin Plumbing to schedule my deal of "$89 for $200 worth of plumbing services." They called me when the plumber was on his way, actually coming earlier than scheduled. Sadly, things went downhill from there. I wanted several minor plumbing problems fixed - a toilet that would run until the handle was jiggled, two bathroom faucets that vibrated noisily at certain levels, two outdoor faucets that leaked around the handles when on, and one outdoor faucet that needed to be replaced. After looking at these issues, the plumber sat down to write an estimate of the cost of these chores. He presented me with a paper estimating $382 to "rebuild" the toilet, $270 to replace the bathroom faucets' cartridges, and $198 to replace the outdoor faucet plus $299 for the new faucet. He did tell me that I could save $127 by joining "Ben's Society" for $39. When I told him I needed to "think about this," he said he would give me "a couple of minutes." I declined to accept the offer. He agreed to tighten the leaking valves in the two outdoor faucets, which he did before he left. Yesterday I fixed the toilet by moving the ball away from the flapper. For now, we'll let the bathroom faucets "sing" and I can still use the third outdoor faucet even though it leaks. Thus, I spent $89 for "$200 worth of plumbing services" to have two faucets tightened, about 30 seconds of actual work - not a good deal.

He came out here, he went in there and looked at it, and said that we have a bad gasket, and it would cost me $450. I asked him what kind of gasket, and he said something that I did not understand. I told him that it should be done, but the price was too high. He said I was senior citizen, and so he would do it for $375, and so I told him it was still too high. He then came down to $275. He went in and fixed it in less than 10 minutes. He came back and showed me the gasket, and it was a simple round gasket. $275 is a lot of money for a 10 minute job, and I told him that I would pay the money with ill feelings. He tried to charge me $450 and then came down. The gasket was $2, and even if he charged me $75, it would have been fine, but he robbed me. I will never ever use him. I am wheel chair bound, and he left to go to the bathroom, and within 10 minutes he was back. He robbed me. I would tell family and friends never to use them, they will rob them. I would tell Benjamin Franklin to do a fair job for a fair price, and to quit robbing people. The owner of the company called and apologized, but he didn't offer to pay me back. I told him that I would never use him, and I would call everybody I know and tell them not to use him. He did the job right, but it was a simple thing to put the gasket, if I weren't disabled, I would have done it myself.

The appointment was great. The plumber showed up within the scheduled time period given and was able to unclog the drain, plus give us tips on how to do it ourselves next time. He also explained that our pipes are old and will need to be replaced soon. He gave us an estimate on how much it would cost to replace the pipes.

Good communication, gave me a courtesey call when they were on the way. Alex was very nice and professional. They wanted to evaluate everything first, I showed him the problems. He decided to do the indoor project first, so that he didnt track any dirt from working outside, and even when working inside he wore boot covers. He explained everything that he was going to do in great detail. He did a great job.

Just moved into a house two days ago, did my first ever load of laundry and found the carpet in the closet behind the washer wet. Determine the valve was leaking from the washing machine. The service man Robert was very knowledgeable and performed the work in 25 minutes. All GREAT. The bad...it was so expensive. I can wrap my head around the $189 after hours service call, that was the issue but the valve replacement was $209! For a part that is less than $10 at Lowe's and/or Home Depot and a fix that took the gentleman 25 minutes to complete. Because it was an emergency call I didn't really have an opportunity to vet multiple plumbing companies, but in the future I will.

He repaired the flapper which I knew was bad. However, he then said I needed a toilet rebuild or I might have a water leak or flood. I had never heard of a toilet rebuild and really felt like it was a sales technique. Last week's Home section of the Dallas Morning News warned about toilet rebuilds being a not very honest plumber sales technique. We discussed installing a new toilet but it would cost $800. No Deal. I needed to research this price so I declined. They did good work but I don't know if I'd have them again. I told Angie's List about the situation.

He came out and seemed to know what he was talking about. I thought maybe it wasn't a clog in the drain, he determined that the toilet is just old and recommended that I just get two new toilets in the house. He was punctual and very professional. I think they told me the truth and weren't just trying to hit me up for a sale. I am getting a refund through Angie's List for this deal since I don't need it.

It went very well. I thought it was a fair price.

The toilet had been leaking for more than 2 years, even after a new ball joint/stopper? was replaced. Now there is no leak.

He had to solder a couple of new copper pipe sections because the old valves were too old and rusted. Then he put new quarter turn valves and braided water hoses to connect to the faucet. After that he showed me that the sink drain was starting to leak and gave me the cost to replace it. After finishing with the sink drain, he inspected all the bathrooms and confirmed that there were no other repairs needed.

I responded to the ad on Angie's list for a $99 drain cleaning big deal. Paid for the service on Angie's List and then called the provider to schedule the job. Turns out the firm is a franchised business and the location that services my area wouldn't honor the special price. So I had to ask Angie's List for a refund which they promptly took care of with no hassles. I still needed the drain cleaned out and quickly since it was my kitchen line that was stopped up. Went ahead and used the Ben Franklin that serviced my area. The tech showed up on time. He brought his drain cleaning machine into the house and got set up in our kitchen. The drain access port was under our kitchen sink. He covered the wheels on his machine with "booties" so that it wouldn't leave marks on the floor. He worked for 30 minutes with the machine and got the clog cleared out and had our kitchen back in service. He cleaned up after himself and left no signs of the work he had performed; nice. Total time on site was about one hour. Then the bill came: $350 to clean a drain that I thought would cost $99. OUCH!! I suppose when your drain stops up you are in a bind and not likely to call around. Next time I will take a little more time and check prices. The work was well performed but I don't think I can use these guys again because of the price.

The guy who came initially fixed the problem, but the problem came back again. Another man came, and said that he couldn't help me.
