Benjamin Franklin Plumbing

I called BFP to get an estimate for replacing a bathroom sink faucet (including emergency shut-off valves), a tub/shower trim kit & an emergency shut-off valve for the toilet. The plumber arrived on time and was polite. However, I thought the prices he quoted me were outrageous. $733 for the sink faucet & toilet valve, & $494 for the shower trim kit. He told me I would have to knock out the tile to put in a new tub drain, & I specifically asked him if I was stuck with the old corroded drain unless I wanted to tear out & re-do the tile. He said that was my only option. He also told me that replacing the emergency valves & pop-up drain in the sink was difficult & involved a lot of work. I opted to hire a non-plumber who charged me $30 an hour & did the job in 6 hours. Everything looks great & works great. No tile was disturbed. Although I expected a plumber to be expensive, I don't think this was a fair estimate. For each item he quoted, he gave me a "usual" charge & then a lower charge that he was willing to give me. Whatever. I didn't try to negotiate with him because I just didn't have a good feeling about it.

The experience was fine. They did what they said they would do, for the price that I paid them.

It turned out okay. I believe there were some additional fees.

Great! I'd previously installed a new flapper and the same leak had returned. The plumber discussed with me what other issues could be causing the slow leak (which caused the toilet to constantly run). Since the flapper came with the Daily Deal he replaced it and it has stopped the leak for now. Should it return, I now know a few things to check before calling a plumber again. Thanks!

Checked everything thoroughly. Fixed all problems. Offered "club membership" which comes with discounts and special services. Because of the amount of the bill I was able to purchase the membership for only $6 more than the cost of the work. Seemed like a good deal to me.

I originally called Ben Franklin Saturday night and the girl told me it was going to be a $289 service fee and did not present any other options except to wait until Monday. Fortunately I called again the next day and a different girl said it was going to be $189. It would have been nice to know there are different prices even on the weekends. This was the only downside of the experience. The standard trip ratesgo like this: Express $99, Reserved $79, Stand-by $59, Emergency after 5pm $189, Emergency after 10pm $289 - Every job has a trip rate and I believe the trip rates are reasonable. All labor fees are flat rated depending on what level of service you need. I was presented with a quote and I think the total repair was a fair price for the services provided. Todd the plumber was professional, friendly, courteous and efficiently performed the job. Bottom line is that Todd is a pleasure to deal with and I felt like he did an excellent job. I would highly recommend Ben Franklin Plumbing.

One upstairs drain was flowing slow and is now working well.

I called a plumber to fix a running toilet, a leakiy sink drain, and 3 leaking outside faucets. He replaced the pvc p-trap under the bathroom sink. And screwed on 3 new outside hoes faucets @ $290.00 each! Had I known they just screwed on, I would have replaced them myself for $20 each. Live and learn on that one. He put die in the toilet to see where it was leaking. He said there wasn't a leak. I overpaid and he left An hour later I looked at the toilet and the die had definitely seeped into the bowl. I went to Home Depot and bought a larger flapper, installed it and fixed the leak my self.

Very friendly and professional in his explanations. I was busy in my office while he was here and so I blame myself for not being with him when he was installing the circulating hot water pump. I found out after he'd already installed the pump on the hot water tank that he was going to have to replace the shut-off valves in the master bedroom in order to finish the job. This added $200 to the bill and then after he finished installing all of it, I learned that I needed to have an electrician install a plug-in in the hot water tank closet. I wish I would have known all of that from the outset, but again I blame myself for not being with him while he was assessing the situation.

I will try and not use Benjamin Franklin Plumbing again. I didn't know that service calls just cover someone actually coming to your house but then ay work they did was not included in the estimate. I paid $25 for the big deal. and it ended $104 for the visit. I had to call back later that night when my toilet just kept running but had the same exact problem before they came out. A few phone calls later, they were able to come out two days later to fix my toilet. Some debris from the city water somehow got in there. It just makes me wonder if he did a good job on that.

Everything was great! The first gentleman that came out wasn't able to complete the job, but another technician was sent out immediately to remedy the issues. We have already scheduled another appointment with them for more plumbing services.

The plumber came earlier than my scheduled time (that was fine with me) and inspected my toilet for issues. He reported that there is a leak inside the tank resulting in a loss of water over time down into the sewer and that the tank should be rebuilt. Everything went quickly with this job. I didn't authorize the rebuild at this time but will obviously need to take care of it in the future.

In and out fo the house quickly. Did a good job at a reasonable price.

The service was fine. They found that nothing was wrong with the plumbing. They did say they could do extensive work but they gave suggestions and that did not need to be done.

The worker was 1/2 hour late. And Ben Franklin's motto is if we are late we pay. I still have not received any money. The first plummer was supposed to replace one flapper. But he decided to replace flappers in all four bathrooms. Replacing all of the flappers recreated a hole in all of the fill valves causing the water to fill in the tank instead of the toilet. I called Ben Franklin and told them about the problem and they sent a second plummer out to look at the problem He came and stated this problem happened because my toilets are over 7 years old. The next day they sent a third guy who also said I had this problem because my toilets are over 7 years old. Plus he said I have cheap toilets. I called the manager Chuck who stated that he would have a plummer come out and replace the fill valves but he would charge me $188.00 for two and the other two would be free. I did not have a problem with my toilets before they changed the flappers. And my house is only 9 years old.

BFP was punctual and completely professional. He cleared my drain without a hitch and I would highly recommend BFP again for plumbing service.

The service was good. They were courteous and they explained everything and it was a good experience.

I CALLED THER NUMBER AND WAS REFERRED TO THEIR ARLINGTON OFFICE WHO ADVISED ME THEY DON'T HONOR ANGIE'S LIST! CALLED ANGIE'S LIST FOR A REFUND - THEY HAD ME PURCHASE A COUPON FRON TIERNEY PLUIMBING FOR $139.00 AND SAID THEY WOULD REFUND THE $89.00!

When using the camera to find problem, plumber found what was said to be a "collapsing pipe". Said there was mud in there and it would eventually collapse completely. He gave me an estimate for the work, for $6200, which I was not able to afford right then. He never suggested I contact my homeowners insurance company. When I did they sent out another company, whose review will also be coming. The other company came up with something totally different. I decided to contact another plumbing company I had used before and they Flow Plumbing to come out and find and locate the problem. While the second guy was partially right, the plumber for Benjamin Franklin was wrong about a broken pipe. He did not make a big deal out of the area he mentioned, that was holding water, and yet, that seems to be the big issue. There were no broken pipes, done by a leak test. I am saddened that I could have spent a lot of money to fix a problem that was not there and not even touch the problem that is.

I broke the pipe Sunday evening, and they had someone scheduled to be out here early the next morning. They actually showed up early, inspected the damage and gave me a price quote. The price was higher than I wanted to pay, but that is typically the case for home repairs with me... Adam, my plumber, told me what he was going to do, and when it would be done by. He was very friendly and professional and did not mind educating me along the way. The work was obviously high quality and they used quality fixtures and piping. He checked and double checked his work, and even kept an eye for aesthetics. Overall, I was very happy with the work that was done, and ended up with a far better set up than what I started off with. Would use them again. The Angie's list coupon was helpful, and happily received.

First off, let me warn everyone to get hard copies or video of camera pictures when a plumber performs that service. I did not and severely regretted it. BF Plumber said the problem was vent pipe separated under the foundation. He said they would make hole in bath wall, tear up much of the flooring (leaving me to have them repaired). He said $3200. I was in shock, asked that he write down repairs and his quote. After he left I saw that the 'quote" stated only "repair & foundation removal" with no specifics. Using the reported vent pipe problem, I checked two other plumbers.. First plumber said $800 to $1200!. Second plumber, who had been used by family gave me $1200 AND he would go in through Master Closet which is carpeted leaving minimal repairs as he cut carefully the hole in the wall and replaced. When he got to the vent pipe reported to be separated it had been repaired appropriately when bathroom was redone with new flooring about 2-3 years ago. To be sure he sealed again just in case a microscopic hole was letting in gas. Sewer gas smell returned for a week or so then went away when the city 'blew out the sewer lines" in my area. And I heard the air through my pipes to affirm! My preferred plumber checked ptraps, toilet seating etc. He was hesitant to start destroying things again until he was sure what the issue was. As it turned out several neighbors had experienced my issue with no plumber (after spending copius sums) finding the reason. It appears with the city working on sewers in my area that may have been the cause. So far no smell for a month. I waited to review until I was pretty certain the cause had been located, which of course was not vent pipe separation with a bill of $3200 plus construction costs!! It did cost me $1200 but had a real professional with my best interests in mind searching out the problem and resolution.

had to cut the line and run another line through the attic for the shower and tub. Anyway I then had to call another company to extract the water and fix the sheetrock. Benjamin Franklin was there very quick which was what I needed. Thank you .

We had a few plumbing items that we wanted to complete but did not know their costs. We purchased the "big deal" for $200 worth of services for $89. Scheduling was quick and easy. The plumber that arrived was very nice and respectful of me and our home (wore protective booties over his shoes). He was very patient and gave me estimates on several items. He tested our water for free to see if there were any chemicals in it. He shared how some municipal water could potentially damage plumbing fixtures or your skin. Luckily, our water was ok. He was able to replace a leaking outdoor hose bib within the pre-purchased price. He had all the necessary tools and items in his truck and was able to complete the task quickly. He reviewed the paperwork inside afterwards and gave us some coupons for future work and promotional products like note pads and magnets for our use. He was very nice and professional. Based on this experience, we will be using Benjamin Franklin for our other plumbing items in the future!
