The work was performed quickly and so far appears to have been properly repaired. When the plumber arrived he met withmy roommate because I was out of town on business. He was shown were there was a extremely wet spot in my lawn near the water shut-off valve that the city installed. He called me and said there would be a fee to excavate of $500.00. I agreed to that because I assumed he would have to bring in equipment to dig up my line from the street to my house. Instead he dug a hole no bigger than2 feet by 2 feet and approximately 18 inches deep to get down to my line. He then called and said he had found the leak and had the parts on his truck to repair it. He repaired the leak and called me back with a total cost of $885.00. I asked him about the fee to dig and he said it was a fixed fee set up by the company. He also said the rates for repair were fixed by the company. He was not at my house for even one hour. I asked about if he dug up any more of the line to check for leaks and he said that was not part of the service I paid a fixed price for. I asked him about what he would charge to do that and he quoted over $2,400,00. Between the fee I paid you for the discounted service call it was over $950.00. That is a higher rate than a trial attorney makes per hour. My mistake was that I was out of town and had to do this without direct hands on review. The service person stated there was a fee but I made a mistake of not asking for a few important questions.
Description of Work: I had an underground leak in the pipe that brings water from the city water main to my house.

We have a rental house and the tenant was complaining that the dishwasher wasn't working so I had Benjamin Franklin Plumbing come look at it. The plumber looked over the dishwasher and ran it. He determined that there was nothing malfunctioning and advised the tenant to purchase better detergent and to make sure to run the hot water (since the water heater is on the other side of the house) before starting the dishwasher.

These folks did a fabulous job. The least complex task was replacing a toilet, which they did skillfully. We replaced an older toilet that had fractured with a new one---actually moving a toilet from our master bathroom to a hallway location & installing a new elongated, slightly elevated toilet with a bidet function that also required a new electrical outlet. Everything went perfectly and on budget, on time. More spectacularly---we have had two other plumbers into our home trying to figure out why hot water needed to be run for 5-8 mins before it became warm (at best) and really not very hot for a portion of the home. We bought our 7y old home 2y ago, and it had set vacant for ~2y before we bought it. No one else had figured the puzzle out---they were proposing installing instant tankless hot water in several locations which did not make sense to us. Franklin determined that our existing water heater needed replacing & that a storage tank was hooked up improperly. (we had already carefully verified that the prior heater was set high enough). Well---the job was done this week, and now the water is hot from every faucet in the home--instantly. Nice going---we are delighted!

It was an Angie's List Big Deal that I purchased. They refused to give me pricing over the phone even though they had a printed price sheet. I called them before I purchased the Big Deal and told them what I believed was a sewage gas leak because I could smell sewage gas in the house. I asked them if it was serious and if I needed to have a plumber come out. If so, I wanted an estimate on what it would cost to treat that. They said they didn't know if I needed to have a plumber come out and they would have to send one out to see and they didn't know what it would cost. The plumber came out and said the only way they could determine what to do with a sewage gas leak was to run a smoke test and their standard pricing for that was $250. He handed me a receipt and it had on it standardized pricing for any kind of plumbing thing that I could think of. They have a standardized price scale so it was very frustrating to me that I had to spend a day at home for a plumber when they could have told me on the phone. They showed up half an hour early. I requested to get the Big Deal refunded.

It was fine. They’ve done a very fine job for us. They weren’t probably one of the least expensive. They were a little pricey but they fixed everything well. I called them right away because we had water on the floor. They were the people we called before and they were on Angie’s List. They have discounted the service call. They’re very thorough. They give you a nice estimate. We have no more problems. There were two guys here most of the days and I can’t complain a lot about that. When we called, they came out the next day and that was important to us at that time because we knew we had a problem. They came when they said they were going to come. They were very professional. They gave us estimate, told us how much it was going to cost, and told us what they were going to do.
Description of Work: They’ve done two different things for us. They did a plug drain for us one time. Recently, they returned when we had a water leak. They had to tear the wall apart and go in there and check the water.

The Angie's list deal was for up to 2 hours of drain cleaning but all he did was unclog the drain in less than one hour and then tried to sell drain cleaning product for $698.00. The technician even reported that "lots of build up in the line but did not continue cleaning after we declined to pay the pipe cleaning product The service appointment was for 0830 but when he did not arrive by 0845 I called BFP and was told he would arrive by 0900 however the technician did not arrive until 0913 and claimed to be on time. This special deal seems like a scam to get in the door and then up sell a $698 drain cleaning.

Inspected the broken water heater and decided to just install a new one because of the cost to repair the old one. Expensive but they do clean it out every month so at least they are monitoring It and keeping it clean. We spoke of the differences between a home depot vs the products they carry. With time of the essence we had to go with their brand and pay the price. Very professional and prompt

The plumber was young but did his job well. After a year I do not have problem with this faucet. After the job he went around the house for an inspection but I declined the recommended repair suggestions. I think the price is high but probably any plumbing job is expensive. I had an Angie's List 'deal' so I saved some money.

I purchased an Angie's Big Deal coupon for $50, for one leaky toilet. The plumber arrived at the appointed time. He performed his 5 point toilet inspection, resulting in a failed dye test. He stated that the only way to repair the leak would be to totally rebuild the toilet. In retrospect I should have gone to Lowe's or Home Depot and purchased a toilet repair kit (flapper, fill valve, flush valve, bowl gasket and tank lever) for less than $20.00. For the amount I was charged, $382.00, I could have purchased a brand new toilet . I felt totally taken advantage of by this plumber, and would not recommend this company to anyone.
Description of Work: This is the plumber's comments on the description of work provided: "Replaced flapper with 5 point toilet tune up. Failed dye test. Toilet needs rebuild. Angie's List coupon # XXXXXX-1. Did toilet rebuild on same toilet instead with 2 year warranty."

The people setting up the appointment explained everything very well and made me aware of all pricing except for the actual service, which was determined by the plumber. He showed up, clean and with all tools needed. It didn't take long, but he did have to cut into the condensation lines to reach the clog. After clearing it, he repaired the lines. This was at 6pm on Friday of the Labor Day weekend. I was happy to have someone come so quick. All others I contacted could not get to me until the Tues after the holiday.

I purchased a deal on Angie's list that provided $200 worth of work for $89. This is a total rip off. The tactic Benjamin Franklin uses is they increase their prices a great deal so you feel you are getting a deal. He quoted me a price for stopping the leak on my toilet of $320.00. I felt it was a bit excessive so I asked for an itemized description of what he was fixing and while he waited I called and got 2 more quotes for the exact same thing. Both companies said it would be no more than $200. I felt I was ripped off. I allowed him to fix only 1 of my 2 leaking toilets due to the price. Initially, he thought he would be fixing both toilets and told me I had the $200 credit from the pre-purchase and a $75 for him being 15 minutes late. After I told him to fix 1 toilet which equated to him only getting paid $45 after all my discounts, he told me they dont honor the late policy on the spot anymore. SMH. I don't recommend these guys!
Description of Work: The provider stopped the leak on one of my toilets. I had him check the dishwasher for a leak and there was none. I did not want him to leave without fixing something since it was already paid for.

The nozzle in my kitchen sink was leaking. It's one that is a pull-out and you can either use spray or regular water flow. The nozzle itself wasn't leaking.....the water was coming from the faucet that the pull-out hose fits into. I figured that purchasing the Angie's List deal ($89 for $200 worth of repairs) would cover it. I scheduled the appointment and was given a two-hour window within which the plumber would come. They called me to ask if I was ready as he was finished and come could early, and I was thrilled. He got there and took a look at everything, and after at least an hour determined that the hose needed to be replaced. At this point he told me the cost would be $99 (in addition to what I had already paid for.) He came back in and spent another hour trying to replace the hose, and then determined that the nozzle needed to be replaced. However, he didn't have one on his truck, so he had to go buy one and asked me where the closest Lowes or Home Depot was. (I can't remember which one he asked for specifically, but I believe it was Lowes.) Fortunately there is one close by so he went and bought one (was gone about 30 minutes) and proceeded to switch it out. At the end of the day, the hose was fine...he put the old one back on, and attached a new nozzle. However, the nozzle is bad....the water pressure is terrible now. I also had trouble moving the faucet from left to right (sink to sink) and asked him about that. He said it seemed to be frozen and said some WD40 would do the trick. However, he didn't have any, so I pulled mine out and he applied it, but it didn't work. I know he was frustrated because he ended up being there for about 3.5 hours and wanted to get going, but I'm more frustrated because the "deal" ended up costing me more and I'm still having problems. I could have replaced the nozzle myself had I known that's what the problem was, and I still can't move the faucet from left to right.

We had complained for months about what seemed like low gas pressure, but took action when we smelled gas around the fireplace, then were unable to get the fireplace to light. We identified Ben Franklin - Dallas through Angie's List, but our location was serviced by the Justin franchise (which honored the Dallas coupon). The service provider was clean and on time. He looked at the fireplace first; checking the lines and then lighting the pilot (NOT AN EASY TASK!). He then checked the gas flow (pressure) to our stove top and outdoor grill and pronounced them to be normal. A few days later we smelled gas around the fireplace again. The same tech was sent out and he went straight to the fireplace flex hose saying that after he left, he had wondered if he had gotten it tight enough during his first visit... There was no charge for the return visit.
Description of Work: Inspected gas fireplace, gas cook top, and outdoor gas grill for for leaks and proper gas pressure. Relit pilot light. Returned a week later to tighten fireplace gas line flex hose.

Benjamin Franklin Plumbing showed up as scheduled and were proffessional and nice to deal with. However cost to the item I wanted repaired (replace the outside faucet) was over $503. I didn't want to spend another $303. There was a second item I was hoping BF could help me with (repair a sprinkler head). Unfortunately they said I'd need to contact a sprinkler company. I've since dug out and replaced the sprinkler head myself.
