We called Benjamin Franklin around 5 pm. Unfortunately we couldn't get any discounts because it was an after hours service. It was really expensive. However, we did have a plumber at our house within maybe 3-4 hours (he was on the other side of town and had to sit in traffic). He fixed everything really fast. I am sure he wanted to go home because it was late. He pulled the toilet out, cleared the clog and put everything back together in under an hour I think. He gave us a quote up front so even though it was expensive, at least we knew what we were getting ourselves into. I would use them again but maybe wait until normal business hours to avoid the emergency call fee. My technician, Hector, was quick and professional.
Description of Work: Our toilet was clogged up downstairs and the upstairs toilets were overflowing into the downstairs ones which left us with no usable toilets on a Friday night.

The work was poor and the price exorbitant. Gave a "quote" for the work as opposed to charging for time. Said it would take an hour and job took 15 minutes. Toilet still wobbles. Plumber also used my bathroom sink to wash off the sponge he used in my toilet.

This was a great and very professional experience.
Description of Work: Robert Renfro with Benjamin Franklin quickly responded to a water leak we had. Within minutes of getting here, he located the leak and informed of the severity and walked me through everything that needed to happen. He was helpful in getting the leak fixed and made sure the job was done right. After the job was done, he also walked through the rest of our house and let us know about the additional things we needed to take care of, including a filtration/softener system that we've been considering, but gave us a great price on it.

Gas meter was run over by a driver in the alley and the gas company shut off the gas to the house. Stated their portion of the work would be completed by 11 AM but there was damage to the riser section of the pipe to the house which meant I needed to call a licensed plumber. I called several to determine an appt time. Of the three called, Benjamin Franklin Plumbing was able to come the same day within two hours. Provider was on time. Gas company was present and repairing their portion of the meter. Provider looked briefly at the situation and then gave me a quote of $2375 to dig up approximately 4.5 ft of pipe beginning at the riser. He stated that depending on the permit and inspection by the City of Flower Mound, he would be able to fix that day. I thought the price was high but other plumbers could not make the call until later in the day which meant we would be without gas overnight (no hot water, no heat, etc.). I agreed and he began the work. The work was completed, permitted and inspected (passed) that day and the provider was finished by approximately 4:00 PM. In talking with the gas company when they returned to turn on the gas, they stated I had been grossly overcharged. I confirmed this with several neighbors who had the same situation occur in the past. The cost of $2375 was perhaps appropriate if the entire pipe from the riser/meter to the house (about 30 feet) has been replaced. He did not do this. He replaced only 4.5 feet of the pipe. The job, by several accounts, including two licensed plumbers, should not have cost more than $700 to $800 for the amount of labor, pipe, permit cost, etc. that was involved. I believe the provider saw an opportunity to quote a price to an individual who obviously needed emergency work done to regain gas to the house and knew nothing about the job, average cost, etc. I definitely believe and feel I was taken advantage of in this situation after consulting with other sources - after the job was completed and paid for. No, I will not use them again for any job we may require and have and will continue to share my experience with others so they are aware of the business practices of this company. I signed the agreement. I paid the full price. But for a job that in all reports from other professionals was not done - the quote was no doubt for a full pipeline replacement, not the 4.5 ft he provided. He was there for 6 hours, one hour of which was for lunch and at least two hours sitting around waiting on the permit to be approved for inspection. For 4.5 ft of pipe, 3 hours of labor, and one city permit I paid $463 per hour. There is no reputable plumber in the DFW are that would charge that kind of fee. I was definitely a fool - and was fooled. Shame on me and definitely shame on Benjamin Franklin Plumbing.

The technician was timely, courteous and very professional. I really appreciated his ability to provide a fast and friendly service. He also was very informative with future recommendation with no additional fees. I would gladly contact Benjamin Franklin Plumbing in the future. It was a fair price for the service with the deal discount. Because I am a single mother with limited knowledge of plumbing, I did, however, performed my own initial check of the drain pipes and cleaned them from beneath my sink. My next step was to call a professional. Thank you Angie's List and Benjamin Franklin Plumbing for getting the job done. I can now clean my kitchen properly without a backed up sink.

The only positive I can give is that they showed up very quickly (within 30 minutes). The positives stop there. I have a rental property that had water all over the floors in several rooms. I turned the water off and called Benjamin Franklin because it's the first place I could think of because of their commercials. Big mistake. They came out and told me I had a leak somewhere in the wall and they were going to charge $575 to do a non-intrusive leak test to determine where the leak was without tearing up the walls, tub etc. I found that to be an extremely high number but went ahead with it because I wanted to make sure my tenants had their water back quickly. After several hours, the tech performed the leak test but had to cut a hole in the wall under the kitchen sink. Not very non-intrusive. In the end, it was determined I had a tub drain leak under the slab. They were going to have to jackhammer the floor, tunnel under the tub and repair the leak for a cost of $7,500!! After I told him that was ridiculous, he suddenly was able to drop it to $6,400. I called another Angie's List company who charged $110 (1/5 of Benjamin Franklin) to do a leak test and they determined the same thing in about 15 minutes without cutting any holes in the walls. They told me they would have to jackhammer and tunnel as well but instead ... for $1,500! That is almost 1/5 of what Benjamin Franklin was going to charge for the same work. I hired the other company and they did the work flawlessly. This was a very bad experience.

The plumber showed up on time and did the job requested in a professional manner. Cleaned up after himself, which not all plumbers I've used in the past have done. Many of them remove everything from under the sink, do the work, then leave it to me to put everything back under the sink. Not this guy. The rate was reasonable only because I had the Angieslist deal and purchased the disposal myself. Between those two things, I saved $220 over the price it would have been if I'd just called Benjamin Franklin plumbing to replace my disposal and let them provide their "bottom dollar" disposal. It took him about 50 minutes start to finish. Even if you allow 20 minutes travel time each way, that amounts to over $105/hr. That seems like plenty for a plumber to me! So, the bottom line for me is that I'd use them again if I have an Angieslist deal, but otherwise I think their prices are a bit high.

I wanted to get two problems fixed - one leaky faucet and one dripping faucet. I was told they don't do repairs because the next time there was a leak, the homeowner might blame them. Instead of trying to fix the leaks, the gave estimates to replace both faucets at a cost of nearly $1000. DO NOT RECOMMEND BENJAMIN FRANKLIN PLUMBING FOR ANY ANGIE'S LIST PLUMBING REPAIR.

The job was done in a professional manner and cleanup was excellent. My yard was left in good condition after digging to install the filtration and softener system. All options were clearly explained to me before any work was done. The plumber, Adam, was very personable and took the necessary time to make certain I understood everything. 10/13/2015 - I want to warn everyone about this company. They are absolutely great when you are purchasing items from them, but that is where the 'service' ends. I have had to place service calls on my water softener system and was told 'since this is a warranty call, you will be placed on a list and someone will come out when they have time from other calls'. There is no estimated time given; you have to sit and wait for the call. I called just yesterday due to another problem with the softener and was told I would have to wait until today. (I did call around 11 a.m.) I called earlier today to make certain I was still on the list for today and was told the same thing. However, I was told 'warranty calls' are usually taken care of after 5 p.m. What kind of service is this? Do not purchase from these people. They have no concern for you after the installation and payment. You become 'whenever we can get to it'. Don't believe them. They talk a good game, but their concern ends when you have paid them and they have walked away.

I called Benjamin Franklin Plumbing on Saturday regarding an outside faucet that would not turn completely off. I requested Ken as he had done work for us before, and they were able to schedule him to come to our house on Sunday (yes, Sunday, at no additional cost!). Ken arrived on time, quickly assessed the situation, and gave me a quote on replacing the outside frost-free faucet. I approved and he completed the work quickly and professionally. He had to knock mortar loose to get the old faucet out, but the repair looked great. I had purchased the "$89 for $200 of services" deal so the $229 service quote actually ended up costing $118.00. We were very pleased with the deal and the services provided!

They'd come out originally about a year before this to fix the same issue but their fix only lasted for about a year. When they came back this time, it was a really bad eperience. The water turned on like wind shield wipers instead of the way it should have and the water temperature was off. The cold water water would go off and then the water would become scalding hot. The second time they came out I wasn't home and the problem wasn't actually fixed.

Robert Renfro, the plumber, was professional, personable and affable. I would specifically ask for him to do my work in the future. Kitchen faucet became unusable on Friday. I checked Angies, took a chance and called Benjamin Franklin on Friday afternoon to schedule a plumber. Their office scheduled Robert to come out on Sunday morning. I was reassured that there would not be an extra fee for Sunday. Purchased a replacement faucet at Sams Club to prepare for the plumber. On Sunday AM, Robert was punctual, left his shoes outside, diagnosed the problem and quoted the price. Be prepared, instead of charging by the hour, they have a set price list for a wide variety of repairs. Certainly not prices for the faint of heart. However, I had purchased their $89 for $200 coupon offer and because Robert was able to complete the work fairly quickly, he also waived the $59 service fee. Whole job cost $204. In addition, Robert went the extra mile, diagnosing the problem with a slow draining bathroom sink (no repair necessary) and replaced a missing screw on my shower faucet, no extra charge. I have satisfaction and peace of mind with Robert's work and can recommend him without reservation. I do recommend taking advantage of their coupon, though, to lessen the $ting.
