Our water heater started leaking late on a Friday night. I called several places but only Benjamin Franklin was able to send someone out right away if we needed. The plumber on call was Jeff Baer, and he provided excellent customer service. Prior to us scheduling the service, Jeff walked us through how to turn off and drain our water heater to prevent it from bursting. We talked to him several times between 9:30-10:30 pm because our cold water supply valve was not shutting off water to the unit. He even tried to talk us through shutting off our main water supply. At that point, we asked him to come out, and he was able to pick up a water heater from their shop and install it that same night. He even came the next day after we got off work to install an additional part that he did not have on hand the night before. Although Benjamin Franklin is not the cheapest service you will find (especially when you have to pay afterhours rates), they provide quality work. We had a great experience with Jeff Baer - he was punctual, very efficient, customer service-oriented and really went above and beyond for us in our emergency.
Description of Work: 50 Gallon gas water heater had to be replaced. Installed drainage pan, expansion tank, and replaced cold water supply valve.

My scheduled appointment was between 8am and 10am, and I requested 30 minute call before to make sure I was home. I received a call at 7:30am, and the plumber was at my house by 8. He was very polite and courteous, and very quickly assessed the situation. He explained the problem, told me exactly how much it would be, and how long it would take. He finished ahead of schedule, and the price was exactly as quoted. I couldn't be more pleased.
Description of Work: I had a slow leak in the bottom of the wall behind my toilet. The plumber replaced some rusted bolts and fixed a leaky pipe.

The telephone representative called when the plumber was on his way, as promised. Johnnie (sp?) arrived promptly, affixed shoe covers to his feet to avoid tracking in dirt, and quickly assessed the problem. I was concerned about the sinks in both bathrooms; I thought that both were "stopped up". The first sink was obviously completely plugged; he then evaluated the second sink, pronounced it in good working order (being only slow-running because of the type of stopper therein), and then went to his truck to get the necessary tools. He then proceeded to remove the bathroom sink trap, clean that, and then "Roter Rooter" the pipes leading toward the main sewer line. He retrieved the plug (of matted hair, as expected), inspected his work, put everything back together, again inspected his work to make sure that there was no leak, and then cleaned up after himself. I was slightly disappointed that he did not clean the sink, where there was much dried debris from my attempted cleaning using Drain-O, but as it was a very stubborn job, and I assume that he did not have a steel wool pad with him (e.g. a Brill-O pad), I can overlook this minor detail. He then presented me with the bill, which he had estimated before the job, and the price was exactly as estimated, He even did not charge me for the service call, which is, as I understand Is usually added to the bill. He also did not charge a sales tax (which is normal, as this is considered a service, and thus not taxable). Overall, he was very polite, competent, and efficient. I thought the charge was very reasonable. The whole experience took less than 25 minutes.
Description of Work: Restored free flow in bathroom sink which had been completely plugged up. Evaluated second bathroom sink to confirm that it exhibited free flow, and previously thought of as slow running, to be simply due to the configuration of the sink "stopper".

The shut off valves on my washing maching had not been shut off for so long that they were stuck open and I broke the cold water valve when I tried to turn it off. All it would do is turn but not shut off the water. I'd originally made an appointment but had to cancel that morning due to responsibilities at work which they were happy to reschedule. Very punctual in that they indicated they would be here from 4:00 until 6:00 and they called at a little before 4:00 to make sure I was ready for them. Very happy overall with the service.
Description of Work: Replaced the two shut-off valves for the hot and cold water on my washing machine. Also installed 2 new hoses from the new shut off valve to the washing machine.

I called to get a basic estimate on a replacement for an exterior faucet for a bricked home. I was advised by Benjamin Franklin Plumbing rep that I would need to make an appointment for a plumber to evaluate the job and at that time I would be provided a written estimate. I made the appointment. The service call cost was $59.00. This cost did NOT go towards the cost of the repairs. The total estimate to replace the facet, was $170.00 + $59.00. It's worth mentioning that I still needed to hire a mason to repair the three bricks that were removed.

Thanks so much for your input. I would like to explain why we do not allow our customer care representatives give quotes over the phone. There are hundreds of plumbing problems and our reps are not licensed plumbers we don't want them quoting when they have no technical expertise. In Texas plumbers are the only trade operating under the penal code. We are very strictly regulated and that is why we employ on licensed plumbers. Every housed is piped differently and we must see the problem and how the house is piped before we can give a quote. Also every city operates under a different plumbing code and by law we must abide by these codes. The call center has no knowledge of these local code requirements. We do have a free trip charge coupon in your Angie's List magazine and it is posted online. It would have cost you nothing to have the plumber come to your home. I apologize that the call taker did not mention these coupons to you. If you have any further concerns please call the office at 972-562-1776.

Tried to fix this myself Thursday night and it did not work. Contacted plumber that night to get on the list for next-day repair. Plumber was on-site at 10:00 am and did a very professional job. Answered all my questions and told me what I had done wrong in the self-repair. Very friendly and courteous service all around. Being a DIY type person, I hated to pay the price for the repair, but now I will not be worried about my repair flooding the house, either. Use the Angie's List coupon to save the $59 dollar trip fee.
Description of Work: Replaced 3 shut-off valves and supply lines (fixed price of $169 each).
