Benjamin Franklin Plumbing showed up promptly for same day service and then quoted us $180 dollars a piece to replace 4 valves. We showed them an invoice that we just had the toilets replaced at $65 a piece a month earlier. They would not adjust their fee despite just paying 1/3 the fee for the same service a month earlier. We also asked that the $59 service fee be used toward stopping the leaking faucet. They said no. We then asked them to leave due to their pricing is out of line for the service provided. They charged us $59 to come out to get pricing that they would not give over the phone. I would use caution using this company. ** Update..after calling.. I called and complained about the $59 service call. They indicated that they would mail back the voided check. They pushed that they are concerned about customer satisfaction. The refund makes me just think that you should have a estimate of cost before you have any plumber out if you can define the problem.

Once he arrived, he informed me that "no" he would not get on the roof. When I explained that his office told me otherwise, he informed me it was his prerogative as to whether or not he would do so. He then presented me with a bill which I refused to pay and asked him to leave immediately. When I called back the office, I was THEN told it is up to the plumber as to whether or not he will get on a roof. Again, another wasted day. I immediately called Roto Rooter and they sent someone within the hour (at the end of the day). Their plumber was extremely courteous and had no problem repairing the problem from the roof. After a couple of hours, the clog was fixed and he gave tips on how to prevent the same from happening again (since we have young children). Despite my prior experience with Benjamin Franklin and the excellent rating I previously gave, I WILL NEVER USE THEM AGAIN NOR WOULD I RECOMMEND THEM TO ANYONE. They quoted me a price of $1498, for a repair/install clean out line. When I told Travis that was way over priced he said "the best I can do is $1250, when a company has room to haggle over a price, that means they are over charging you and by how much you will never know. I told Travis there was no way I was paying that amount to forget it. Found another plumber total parts and labor $475.

While they were prompt and were able to replace the water heater on the spot, they are very expensive. I should have done my homework prior to cost compare so the price paid was my lesson learned. They also still charged the $59.00 trip charge (even though I spent $2300). Another lesson learned, ALWAYS check Angie's list!. I didn't realize they were a member and there was a coupon for waiving the trip charge that I didn't discover until after the work was done. He also came into the kitchen and started checking the faucet and disposal (not at my request). This may be common practices for plumbers but I thought it was a little presumptous and he also recommended that I replace the disposal. (I have priced shopped and the top of the line with install (which was not the one recommended) from other sources is still less than the quote. Don't get me wrong, they do great work, so you are getting what you pay for!. If money is no object, I would highly recommend, or if it is an emergency, I would use them again.
