Benjamin Franklin Plumbing showed up promptly for same day service and then quoted us $180 dollars a piece to replace 4 valves. We showed them an invoice that we just had the toilets replaced at $65 a piece a month earlier. They would not adjust their fee despite just paying 1/3 the fee for the same service a month earlier. We also asked that the $59 service fee be used toward stopping the leaking faucet. They said no. We then asked them to leave due to their pricing is out of line for the service provided. They charged us $59 to come out to get pricing that they would not give over the phone. I would use caution using this company. ** Update..after calling.. I called and complained about the $59 service call. They indicated that they would mail back the voided check. They pushed that they are concerned about customer satisfaction. The refund makes me just think that you should have a estimate of cost before you have any plumber out if you can define the problem.
Description of Work: Benjamin Franklin Plumbing was called out to quote a fee and to replace 4 valves under the kitchen sink. Said that there was a $59 service call to come out that would go towards work provided.

Thank you so much for your honest assessment of the work performed at your home. Often customers question why our customer care representatives do not giving pricing over the phone. We feel, that too often home owners are lured to accept approximate pricing only to learn (upon inspection of the job) that the actual price will be much higher than they anticipated. In order to give you an absolutely accurate price in person, and up front, we sent a licensed, professional plumber to your home. We do offer 100% customer satisfaction. If you would like to pursue your concerns further please contact our office at 972-562-1776. Thank you for choosing The Punctual Plumbers!

After having an excellent experience with Benjamin Franklin Plumbing and a specific master plumber in particular, I called them back after having gone through 3 other plumbers sent by my home warranty company. A downstairs toilet was clogged causing sewage to come up through shower, etc. For some reason, the original builder in the 1980s did not include a clean-out trap for this bathroom, consequently the clog needed to be approached through the air stack on the roof. Three plumbers sent by my home warranty company refused to get on the roof after getting to house. I called Benjamin Franklin, explained the problem and was told there would be no problem with the particular plumber used before - that he would get on the roof and take care of the problem. Once he arrived, he informed me that "no" he would not get on the roof. When I explained that his office told me otherwise, he informed me it was his prerogative as to whether or not he would do so. He then presented me with a bill which I refused to pay and asked him to leave immediately. When I called back the office, I was THEN told it is up to the plumber as to whether or not he will get on a roof. Again, another wasted day. I immediately called Roto Rooter and they sent someone within the hour (at the end of the day). Their plumber was extremely courteous and had no problem repairing the problem from the roof. After a couple of hours, the clog was fixed and he gave tips on how to prevent the same from happening again (since we have young children). Despite my prior experience with Benjamin Franklin and the excellent rating I previously gave, I WILL NEVER USE THEM AGAIN NOR WOULD I RECOMMEND THEM TO ANYONE. Moreover, the plumber was very unapologetic and unprofessional.
Description of Work: Plumber was to remove clog from drain but refused. See below.

They quoted me a price of $1498, for a repair/install clean out line. When I told Travis that was way over priced he said "the best I can do is $1250, when a company has room to haggle over a price, that means they are over charging you and by how much you will never know. I told Travis there was no way I was paying that amount to forget it. Found another plumber total parts and labor $475.

While they were prompt and were able to replace the water heater on the spot, they are very expensive. I should have done my homework prior to cost compare so the price paid was my lesson learned. They also still charged the $59.00 trip charge (even though I spent $2300). Another lesson learned, ALWAYS check Angie's list!. I didn't realize they were a member and there was a coupon for waiving the trip charge that I didn't discover until after the work was done. He also came into the kitchen and started checking the faucet and disposal (not at my request). This may be common practices for plumbers but I thought it was a little presumptous and he also recommended that I replace the disposal. (I have priced shopped and the top of the line with install (which was not the one recommended) from other sources is still less than the quote. Don't get me wrong, they do great work, so you are getting what you pay for!. If money is no object, I would highly recommend, or if it is an emergency, I would use them again.

Called them to take care of a blocked bathroom drain. Plumber arrived when promised, ran a snake down the drain and said he hit mud. We were told that indicated a break in the sewer pipe and would cost approximately $5,000 to repair. Provided some drain cleaner and left. We called our home owner's insurance provider to determine if this repair would be covered. Our agent told us the cost seemed to be unusually high and recommended we have a plumber he had used take a look. This gentlemen was a master plumber with 30 years' experience. He told us by phone that the most he would charge if there was a break would be $2,500. We had him take a look, and he also used a snake in the drain. He found no mud at all and charged us $150 to clear the drain.

Called the week before and was able to get an appointment first thing in the morning (between 8-10) on a day I was going to be working from home. I was called about 7:45 from the office and told the plumber would be leaving the office at 8:00 to head out to my place. He was here about 8:30. Corey was very courteous and evaluated the job and provided me with an estimate. I told him to go ahead and get started. He was done in a bit over an hour. Everything appears to be done well and I like the fact there is a 2 year warranty. I know we all would like to always pay less for this type of thing but to me having someone show up on time and get the job done correctly is worth it. I've had some bad plumbing experiences in the past, like plumbers showing up at 8:30 PM to replace a water heater they were supposed to be here at noon to replace. So, to me, having a reliable company be here on time with someone who knows what they are doing was well worth paying a few extra bucks.
Description of Work: I had a Frost Proof Outside Faucet that had ruptured over the winter. Not an emergency since I have one on the other side of the house but with the need to set out soaker hoses this summer I wanted to get it fixed.
