Strand Brothers Service Experts

The Strand brothers no longer own it, but I have had dealings with Strand Brothers. They installed my original system. I'm on a contract with them and pay $135 a year, they come twice a year. In the winter months they checking the heating and in the summer they make sure everything is good with the cooling.

We signed contract for two visits a year. As far as I know we will continue to use them.

They ultimately did a re-organization. They're now called Service Experts. They're prompt. They're professional. And their good and fast to get to you when you call them. They're fast to do the job when they get here. They're timely. They do a good job all the way around. It was great. The work is fine.

I called W.O. Harper a plumbing company I had been using for many years and got Stans instead. Apparently they have purchased W.O. Harper. The work was fine but it was way over priced. If it hadn't been late friday I would have sent them away. They run what I consider to be a scam operation. They won't price over phone, they charge a service charge to show up and give a bid and then the bid it outrageous. I will never use them again for anything.

We pay $120 a year, and they make two visits a year. If your thermostat ever breaks, they will give you one free. They do a pretty good job. They clean up the outside of the unit, and they tell you anything that is wrong. Its your option if you want to do anything about it. The service man is really good. The price is fair. They were here right on time.

Excellent..Raj is very courteous, attentive, and knowledge in his career. I look forward to having him to return and complete the necessary AC/Heat work for full operation.

They got back to me very quickly, got it setup, and did it in a day.

They took over a business called Stan's which, has been around for 20 years or better. The people that we work with we have known for decades. When we first worked with Strand, we didn't care for them. I don't think that Stan's existed then. We bought a whole new air conditioner from them. They are very honest, and easy to talk to. Chris Strand was one of the owners, we'd talk to him, and he would come out.

They were very professional and timely. Got in and out without disruption.

The visit was fine, with the exception that he didn't have the right filter on the truck. There has been no followup from anyone to bring and install the new one. His handheld device also wasn't working that day so he couldn't give me a receipt.

I was able to schedule a same-day appointment and a friendly repairman arrived promptly. He gave me an estimate of $1000 for the repairs on my 1998 Lennox furnace. I declined the repair at that time, since the furnace will be replaced when my home is remodeled this spring. The next day, I called Strand (since there was no response to my email query) asking to speak to a manager to find out if there was perhaps a less-expensive option for repairing the furnace. My husband and I made several calls over the next couple of days and were given the runaround. We were told we would be sent an itemized breakdown of the repair via email, but this never happened, nor were our calls returned. I had the repair done by another company for $660, considerably less than Strand's quote of $1000. Although I bought my AC/furnace from Strand and have used them several times in the past, I will never use Strand again.

IT TOOK ABOUT 1 HOUR TO INSTALL, THEY TOOK ADVANTAGE OF MY FIANCEE THAT HAD BRAIN CANCER AND CHARGED HER $1,800 FOR THE JOB, AND LEFT A BIG HOLE IN MY GARAGE WALL SHEETROCK. NEVER AGAIN.

They diagnosed it correctly and did a good job. They came out the same day we called them.We have had good work with them over the years.

I like their 24 hour availability, the workers are wonderful and they arrive on time.

Service not up to any prior expectations.

I wouldn’t say I was particularly dissatisfied. This time I looked for a provider I can afford. They were fine.

Very well. The clog was removed and a plan of preventative maintenance was given. Church's has become my go-to plumbing service.

Strand Brothers recommended work I didn’t need and greatly exaggerated the cost of repairs I later had done for much less by another firm. I never write reviews, but feel compelled in this situation so others can be warned about our experience with Strand Brothers. We are often at the mercy of these firms who are the "experts" and therefore must rely on their expertise and honesty. Our upstairs AC unit is approx 9 yrs old and stopped working so we called Strand Brothers based on Angie's List rating and reviews. Tom came to the house and confirmed the condenser was not working. After replacing the capacitor he said was bad the condenser still did not work and he said the motor, and a second motor, needed to be replaced. He said both motors would cost $2300 to replace, but recommended we look at replacing the entire AC and furnace system due to the age and cost of the repairs. Tom said someone else would come by to give us prices on the different options. Two days later Brian came to the house to provide pricing, but was suggesting replacement of the entire system for between $6400 & $8400, or replacing the whole condenser, which would require replacing the coil, for $4400. When I asked about the option of replacing the motors the price had gone up to $2900. I had him call Tom to explain the increase and Tom confirmed that “two motors” and the capacitor had to be replaced and it would cost $2900. Luckily I had called another AC firm who was scheduled to be there that day so I decided to wait. That firm quickly determined the condenser motor was indeed bad and needed to be replaced. When I questioned the capacitor he used a volt meter to show me it was good, but that a new condenser motor would come with its own matched new capacitor anyway. While I never mentioned another firm had recommended additional repairs, he confirmed replacing just the single condenser motor would fix the problem. The entire cost to replace the single motor, with a new capacitor, was approx $1200. I had them replace the motor and the system has been running beautifully ever since. I think people should know about our experience with Strand Brothers. Telling me I had to replace two motors for $2900 was both incorrect and over-priced. There was only one motor that had to be replaced and it cost only $1200 through another firm. I don’t know if Strand Brothers is dishonest or incompetent, but I do know they were very wrong with both their assessment and pricing and I will never trust them in my house.

As far as the cost, I did a plan a long time ago for continuing maintenance.

The cost is $79 a year. They are great. They are always very professional and informative. I would definitely continue working with them.

The A/C problem always happen during weekend and the prices are really high, he keeps double the price plus something else. They didn't find the real problem, also they A/C may run while they are there but it would fail after they left in a day or two, finally we found a problem talking to some other people, it's the breaker and not really the A/C because the A/C is a year old new A/C.

Their technician indicated that the system was extremely low on coolant. He checked for leaks and stated the coils were leaking and would need to be replaced. He added several lbs. of coolant to tide us over until the repair. I told him that Church’s had replaced the coils about 11 months ago. He said all should be under warranty, and the upstairs would cool down because of the added coolant. However, the upstairs issue remained unresolved – it remained just as warm as before the service call. We spoke with Church’s the next day and they said that the coil part is covered, but we had to pay $720 (after already spending $275 for the first service call) to fix the same part they had installed the year before. We asked to talk to a manager since the core A/C issue that prompted the service call was still unresolved, and the same part they had installed 11 months ago was again leaking. We received no call back from the manager. Five days later, the CSR called again to schedule the coil repair. I indicated the manager had not returned my call and retold the story. She said a manager would call me, but I received no call back. I then sent a message via Angie’s List – I received no response again. Several days later, the CSR called again to schedule the coil repair, and my wife once again explained the situation. The CSR insisted that we would receive a call back that evening or early the next morning - no response. Church’s has shown no regard for this repeat customer since the manager refused to even return our calls/email. Since Church’s was completely unresponsive, I checked Angie’s List and called an HVAC company that was very highly rated. The technician identified the problem as a defective damper. He also noted that the system was actually too full of coolant, which was surprising considering Church’s had said it was severely depleted. He repaired the damper and the problem was solved – AC upstairs is working perfectly. The bottom line is the coolant and coils had absolutely nothing to do with the core problem, which was the damper. We still have not received a return call or email from Church’s. The $275 they charged did not address the actual problem, which was the damper.
