Took several days due to weather, permits, & city inspection, but I am very happy with the workmanship.
Description of Work: Replaced old breaker box, added new surge protector. Had to replace the metal pipe the the service feed uses to go to the breaker box. Looks great, passed city inspection. Larry did a great job at a very good price. This was a big deal purchase ($650.00), but I upgraded the size of the breaker box and the additional work as noted above. That is why I paid $850.00

DO NOT USE GILMORE ELECTRIC! The first thing to note is that I bought this deal back on December 15, 2012 and this company has never (and now will never) perform the service. They have already missed FOUR scheduled appointments, and other then the first missed appointment, they didn't even bother to call ahead of time to let me know they couldn't make it. I would sit around the house all morning waiting for them, no one at the company would answer their phones. The third appointment they missed was supposed to be on Friday February 15th, they didn't show up, again no phone calls and no one would answer phones. They said they would call the next week to reschedule. Finally the next Thursday they contacted me, in an email. They wouldn't even call me to say sorry and reschedule an appointment! They just send an email! SO- On February 21, 2013 and they told me they could not make it to my house until the 23rd of March! Over a month to reschedule an appointment THEY missed (again). So I cleared my schedule, moved around my other plans to make sure I was home on the 23rd of March. After 7pm on the night of the 22nd of March, I don't get a courtesy phone call, I got an email that I did not see until 9pm stating that yet again, they will not be making it out to my appointment. I couldn't sleep well that night I was so angry that this company would do that to us, AGAIN! The next day I had had it with Gilmore. Four appointments and over 3 months they could not show up to do the work I had already paid for, they were no longer welcome at my home. Thank goodness for Angie's List though! I called in and Angie's List was so nice and helpful. Within a couple of business days they found another company to do the work that would honor the same 'big deal' package I had already purchased. We'll see how the next company does. All I know for now (April 9, 2013) is that Gilmore Electric should issue an apology and reimburse me for all of my time that they wasted. Gilmore is not allowed on my personal property or any of my rental properties. They are banned!

I was very pleased with the work done; if electrical service is needed again, I would not hesitate to call them again. The quality of their work is acceptable, and, being a Senior Citizen, I felt that their pricing was fair to me--unlike a previously-used electrician.

The appointment was set for a particular day in February. A couple days before the appointment, Gillmore Electric called and said they were running behind due to some adverse weather that week. She apologized and said that they usually don't work on Saturday, but they would come out on Saturday and do the job. That was fine with me. We were expecting company that coming week and wanted the work finished before they arrived... They did a good job.. I appreciated the extra effort.
Description of Work: I wanted to remove the chandelier from our dining area. We were going to change the layout of that area and just wanted a simple ceiling fixture. The chandelier is very nice and I wanted to use it somewhere. I had seen pictures in magazines of chandeliers in Master bedrooms and also in the bathroom.---Since we have high ceilings in our home, I had Gilmore Electric just switch the ceiling fixtures. So, the chandelier went to the bathroom and that light went to the dining area. Larry Gilmore was very careful and did not rush the job. I also wanted him to replace the ceiling light in the entry, but that light was on back-order. He said he would be glad to come back and offered me a discount on the installation. I will call him as soon as the light arrives.

I paid for the angies list special price of $650 package for a new electrical panel and whole house surge protection to be put in. I called on Dec 27, 2012 and I was asked to take a picture of my panel and email it to the contractor so he would be able to replace it. We discusses getting the panel replaced the first few weeks in January. Then I never heard back about an appointment date. I called several times left messages and got now response back. This is now Febuary and I called several times this week and left an email. I called the Big Deal Department inorder to complain, they said that they would call hime. I did not get a call back. I got an email response saying that the first appointment they had was a month away. That is all the contact I have had with them. I have no idea if I am going to get the panel or not and I have already paid angies list for the service. The special pricing ends the beginning of April. The date they have set in the email I recieved is just a few weeks from the expiration of the package. If there is more no calls and no show, the package will expires. I have no idea what is going on and they will not return my phone calls and talk to me so I cannot find out any information. My appointment was for March 22 at 10 am. I start calling and leaving messages to try to confirm that they would be there on March 22 a week head of time. I also sent several emails. I heard nothing from this company until the night before they were supposed to come and install the electrical panel. They sent me an email stating that the weather report said there was a possibility of rain and he was not going to come. No alternated date. Just that he was not coming. I check the weather report and there was no high chance of rain. It was a very sunny day so I called them and finally I got a hold of someone and I asked if Mr Gilmore was going to come out and the lady that answered the phone said he was out in the field and she would try to get a hold of him. I said he is out in the field? So he is working today he is just not going to work on my job? I told her I had someone waiting there for him to come and could they call me back and let me know if they were going to make it or not. Of course no one call me back and no one came. I used an Angie's List Big Deal special for this service. They arrived on time and worked efficiently in less time than I thought. This company described some options to me about remote access; they convinced me it did not work like I thought it did so I did not have that put on. When I tried to call to schedule this service I had to wait for about two-and-a-half weeks until they could come out; I was surprised at how long the wait was.

went great. they booked a date and had to reschedule twice due to rain, which was of no fault of their own and I really dont want someone working on electrical things while its raining! they showed up the day off, contacted the city, got permits, whole nine yards. work was done in around 3 and a half hours.
Description of Work: Larry did an upgrade from 100 to 200 amps in my house and put a grounding rod in. i have an old 60's house so this was quite necessary. they did a fast and through job giving us all that was promised. they were fast and helpful, answering all of the questions I had (and i had a lot of them). looking forward to having them to some more work in our house.

Slow start, took longer than quoted. i had to schedule vacation time to be present, had to re- chedule and apply fOR more time than I had coming. Once the job was focused, on the work was completed and I am satisfied. I have a 80 year old Solid Brick venier home brought up to current code for a reasonable price.The wait was worth the time. Gilmore Electric has a hard time meeting the Demand that Angies List brings. If you can schedule and wait, the price is good and the owner will make sure it passes to current codes.
Description of Work: New Service panel upgrade, Completly re wired house to current code, permitted, inspected and approve by City of Houston. This includes more plugs, capability and fire detectors,and he will update the lighting in your home.

I have been left a couple voicemails for the company and I am yet to hear back from them. They came and completed the job in a very effiecient manner. I had two jobs for them, the $650 and another related job. I felt that they did a good job. I would ask them to do work for me again. The only caution I have - be sure they look at the job BEFORE they give you an estimate. On the other related job, he had estimated $75 additional in materials and it was quite a bit more than that. But, he had NOT seen the job so I give room because of that. Thanks again for getting it done and getting it done well.

Just a horrible experience! We contacted Gilmore Electrical to replace our electrical panel and Larry asked that we send pictures so he could see what we needed replaced which we did the day after our initial discussion. Larry then said he couldn't tell by the pictures alone and wanted to come out to evaluate what needed to be done. We discussed the price range over the phone and I said be prepared to do the work if you could. He sent me an email on a Friday asking if he could come out over the weekend but unfortunately the email went to my work email and I didn't pick up until the following Monday when I returned to the office. We were not able to schedule anything the following week until the weekend. Larry scheduled Sunday morning to drop by and review what we needed done but never showed up and did not call. We had stayed home that morning waiting on him which caused us a few problems as we really needed to handle a few things away from the house but wanted to get the electrical panel looked at. I sent Larry a couple of emails asking about status on what had happened as I had not heard from him. I called him Monday morning and he made an appointment to come by between 2:00 & 3:00 on tuesday and later called and moved the appointment to 5:00. Again he didn't show and never called to let us know he wasn't coming which again my wife had to stay at the house all afternoon into the evening waiting. I finally sent an email stating that we would give him one more chance and then write a poor review on angies list if he was again a no show. He called that night and obviously did not want a poor review on angies list so said he would come out on Wednesday between 10:00 and 10:30 prepared to do the work. He had made us an offer to charge us labor only which I said I would be happy to pay the price we had previously discussed I just needed him to show up. I asked him to make sure and be on time because I had to take a partial vacation day to be there and needed to go into work right afterwards "so please show up". He called me at 10:25 Wednesday morning and said he was in route about 20 minutes away and would see me shortly. Again, he didn't show up for the appointment at all. Can you imagine calling a customer and saying he's almost there and not even showing up! I called him several times as I needed to know if he was coming so I could make arrangements with my work but he didn't return phone calls, texts and his phone went straight to voice mail. Needless to say this was one of the worst experiences I have ever had with a contractor and would not recommend him to anyone due to his unreliability in keeping appointments. From some other reviews it appears if you can actually get him to show up he must do okay work and the price is right but a few reviews do reflect poorly from him not showing up to some appointments, not calling and letting people know, etc. The excuse he will use I know is that he got over his head and overwhelmed by responses to his angies list coupon but he continued to make appointments and failed to honor those committments and was not respectiful of his customer's time at all.

I ordered a new 100 amp electrical service box on an Angie's Big Deal special for the listed $650.00. When I contacted the electrician he asked me to send him pictures of the existing service box. He was to call me later that day to schedule the installation after he was back in his office and could review the pictures. He did not call so I contacted him the next morning to see if he had received my pictures and had a chance to review them . He had, but did not explain why he had not called me as promised. The pictures showed that my existing service was 150 amp so I would need a bigger box. He said he could put in a 150 amp box for an additional $50. I agreed to this and was informed that I could just give him a check for the difference at the time of the installation. The appointment was set for Saturday Dec. 15 at 9 am. He called about 8:40 on Saturday morning to cancel the appointment since it was sprinkling and my box is on the outside of my garage . He said he would call me later in the day when he was back in his office to reschedule. I did not hear from him that day so l called him the first thing the following Monday morning. He wanted to reschedule the appointment for "sometime after Christmas." I objected and reminded him that I had already been waiting more than a week to have this work done. He then agreed to do the work that same afternoon. He said he would be at my home about noon and the installation would take about 3 hours. He arrived on time, looked at my box and said he would go get the new box and be back shortly. He returned in about an hour with a new 200 amp box. He said they no longer make 150 amp boxes so we would have to go with the larger 200 amp box. The 200 amp box was listed on the Angie's Big Deal at the cost of $850. I agreed to the upgrade and he completed the work very quickly. He showed me how to check to make sure the surge protector was working and provided the warranty for it. He showed me the new box to be sure I was satisfied with the installation. He cleaned up the site, taking the old equipment and materials with him for disposal. I gave him a check for the additional $200.00 and he was gone by 2:30 pm. I was very satisfied with the work but I do have a problem when someone fails to call when they say they will or, at the very least, to offer an explanation for why they did not do so.

Member, Sorry for phone calls not being returned on time, at that time my phone was ringing off the hook and I couldn't keep up. As for the 150 amp panel, they are still made I found out but they do not stock them in the Houston market at Home Depot or Lowe's. They have to be ordered online. We purchase all of the residential material at these stores as an electrical supply house would be so much more we would not be able to offer these type of deals. Please accept my apologies for any difficulty we caused you.

Description of Work: I have possible wire issue in my house and in late night and I wait until morning to see if problem still exist. Next morning problem still exist and so I read the review and choose Gilmore Electric because they offer prepay discount on service call and 24 hours stand by. I call at 6:30 am and a woman answer: "do you know it is 6:30 am now?" I reply "your website said you have staff on-call 24/7." http://gilmoreservices.net/ 24-Hour Reliable Service Gilmore Services provides 24-hour reliability service to any of your electrical issues that you may may be experiencing. Our ON-CALL STAFF are available anytime, day or night to troubleshoot the problem and get your things back to normal. This translates into dependability and trust, essential in promoting future business with our customers. I do not hire them because this woman said they all booked up on Jan and first open is on Feb. This is critial issue and I can't wait that long.

Larry called on the day of the service appointment to indicate he was on his way. He arrived as anticipated. He viewed my box to check out the make and model, purchased an appropriate replacement, and installed the new box and wires in about two hours. He is personable and smiles. That is great. Within a few minutes, he installed the outdoor lights so quickly--within 5 minutes. I enjoyed doing business with Larry. He is competent, skilled, and courteous. I recommend his services.
Description of Work: Larry Gilmore removed an old electrical panel (with all the breakers). He installed a brand new electrical panel box. I called Gilmore Electric to arrange an appointment to do an inspection of my electrical service including outlets, panel box (mentioned it needed to be replaced), etc. Late last year I had a "free" electrical panel inspection done by a large multi-service company in Houston that advertises "it's all about the house". Well, it was really all about how much money we can get out of you. It was recommended that I change out the entire panel box for $ 1,700.00 because it had an aluminum bus bar which was corroded and the ground wire was too thin and needed to be changed out for another $ 500.00. I called my friend in Austin who is a licensed electrician who told me GE never ever made a panel box with an aluminum bus bar (it is copper with an aluminum coating) and $ 500 to run a 4' piece of wire was insane. Now back to my Gilmore Electric experience. When I initially called and spoke to Larry Gilmore he said he was very busy but he could set an appointment with me for about a week in the future. This was fine with me and we set a date of 12/20/12. Larry arrived (with a helper) about ten minutes earlier than expected and immediately impressed me with his knowledge and professionalism. He first looked at my panel box, confirmed it was a copper coated bus bar, pulled and inspected the breakers and showed me that the contactors had hardly any wear. He said he could replace the panel box if I wanted but what was the point in spending a sum of money for something that was functioning properly and didn't need to be replaced. We then inspected some outlets, talked about adding GFI outlets, inspected my ceiling fan which does need to be replaced and inspected my motion light outside which also needs to be replaced. Larry agreed to come back and take care of all of my items in January. I asked what the charge for today was and he said "No Charge". He came all the way to my house from Bellaire and didn't charge me. This is amazing. You can be sure I will have him back after the first of the year to do all we talked about and I will add to my list of electrical projects to make sure his next trip is economicaly feasible. Larry is a professional of the highest standard. He is my electrician for life.

Larry did an excellent job of communicating with me in the time leading up to the job. On the day of, he worked quickly (important when your electricity is out - don't want the food in the fridge to spoil!) and I felt the quality of the work was high. He is demeanor is friendly, while still professional. I asked for him to do an estimate on a second job in the house, for which he not only beat a previous estimate by a significant margin, but suggested an innovative approach to the work, which would have saved money in needing to replace tile in order for the job to be done. I am obviously already contracting with him for more work and would recommend him to others.

He came on time and evaluated what needed to be done and he commenced to do the work starting with the kitchen and working through the family room.
Description of Work: He had to do small electrical repairs to my kitchen lights and cabinet light. He had to go to Home Depot for parts and only charged me for the parts and separately for his labor. He was honest and did what he said he would do. I would use him again because I felt comfortable with his work and his honesty.

Within 30-60 min of buying the deal they called us to schedule an appointment. He said he'd be here at 1pm & was very prompt. He was very courteous & very professional. We’d had other electricians tell us we need a new electrical panel so we bought the deal. He came out & told us, very frankly, that he'd love to do the job but that we didn't need the work - That out panel was perfectly fine! I appreciate his honest which is pretty phenomenal. We’ll definitely use him for electrical services in the future.

Overall, it was a great experience from start to finish. Before I purchased the big deal, I phoned the company to discuss what I needed and how we could approach the extra work. He was upfront about everything, and quoted me very reasonable prices over the phone. The night before, the company confirmed my appointment for the next day, and then on the day of followed up with a call to get pictures of the box to ensure they would have the correct replacement equipment on the truck. They showed up on time to do the work, finished in about two hours, explained everything and cleaned up. It was very easy, and I appreciate that they now are doing online invoices and have flexibility for payments (paypal, CC, check, etc.).
Description of Work: I purchased the Big Deal to have my electrical box replaced with a surge protector. I also had Larry and his team replace some outlets with GFI outlets and a couple of bad light switches.
