We got a real young worker from James Plumbing Co., although he was supposed to be real knowledgeable and all this other good stuff, we thought he was too high. He kept having to make trip charges, because he had to go back to the warehouse and it was $10.00 every time he had to go back to the warehouse, if you didn't have a right part. They charged us for that. He fixed the problem. On one thing, he said, I can't do it, unless it's going to cost you -- and that would have been an astronomical on that one too. So we only let him do one other thing. It did fix the problem, but I won't say it's the best thing that I've ever had done. He was way too high, also. Because what he did would not have cost nowhere near over $300.00. All he did was replace the valve stem within a water closet in the shower. There's no way. He didn't leave me the box to the new part. He didn't leave me my old part. He didn't ask me if I wanted him to. He changed the flapper in a toilet, which was like an $8.00 part. He was going to charge me $75.00 to do that. That's too much. I know how much that is. Everything was just way too high.

I appreciate the feedback and want you to know that I have investigated the service call performed at your home on June 20th 2013. We were called to install a shower faucet you had purchased elsewhere and repair 2 commodes. When my technician looked at the shower faucet you had purchased and the existing shower faucet, he found that it was not going to be a standard replacement and gave you the cost to install the new faucet or to repair your existing faucet. When you opted for the repair, he then had to go and get the replacement parts. You may not know this, but we carry the parts for over 57 different brands of faucets with there being up to 30 styles of each brand. This makes it almost impossible to have the specific part for your home on our truck without you informing us what exact faucet you have. We did, however, have the part at our location so we could complete the task that day. Many companies have to order these parts and return to install it when the part arrives. After returning and installing the part my technician observed that the part was defective and would not hold up with continued use. Since we warranty our work, he removed the part and returned to the supply house to exchange the part. He then returned, installed the part and the faucet was repaired. Your commode was also repaired and all is working properly according to your review. Our service truck arrived at your home at 10:32 am and left your home after completing all work at 1:01pm. Your total invoice was $ 321.47, of which $ 91.47 was parts and tax. Although he left your job twice to obtain parts, you were only charged one $20.00 trip charge, which is our minimum trip charge. We do not charge our customers more than one trip charge per service call. As for the box for the part and the old part, it comes in a plain plastic bag and I instruct my technicians to clean up the workspace and dispose of any trash and old parts unless the customer requests the old ones. We rarely have customers request the old parts and if we leave them I receive complaints that my technician did not clean up. I am sorry you feel our prices are out of line because I never want to lose our customers. I am aware, however, that there is always someone out there who will do a job cheaper and that is why I put such an emphasis on customer service and quality workmanship, which you rated highly in your review. As it says in our Angie's list business description, " At James Plumbing we do not claim to be the "cheapest plumber in town" , We do strive to be the "Best Plumber in Town" and provide you with professional service and excellent customer service". I regret you did not contact me directly with your concerns, as I would have communicated with you personally on these issues. Sincerely, Sam D. James President

Service man came within 15 minutes after call. Got right to work and fixed both my issues in a short period of time. Was very pleasant and knew what he was doing. Gave me some helpful information for replacing future faucets. Fee was very reasonable and asked me about a coupon offer that they had on the new phone books. I had kept the coupon, but had forgotten about it. Got to use the coupon and received discount on cost. Really appreciate the friendly service. Will definitely call again when the need arises. Have used James Plumbing for years, but checked with Angie's List to see how their ratings were and compare to other local companies. Still chose James Plumbing. Glad I did.

Our house was built in 1975 so the water pipes were made from galvanized steel which rusts and corrodes over the years. We got 4 bids from companies on Angies List. The company we chose, James Plumbing was not the lowest nor the highest but explained the process to us in greater detail and was honest with us about the time it would take to get the job done right. Other companies promised to have it done in one day, and because we have had previous remodeling experience, knew that this was almost impossible to accomplish. James Plumbing emailed us links to websites so we could see the products they would be installing. They told us at the outset that it would be approximately 4 days and they were right on schedule. They brought their material and equipment out on Monday 05/13/13 and finished about 11:00AM Thursday 05/16/13. They cleaned up after themselves each day better than any other construction people we have ever used. They even put a special film over my hardwood floors so they didn't get damaged. The sheet rock they took out was minimal and they insulated all the water lines so we don't have to worry about them freeziing. Their job included a new water heater as well and they flushed all the lines and made sure all the faucets were clear of debris before they left. The techs were knowledgable, professional and courteous. The owner, Mr Sam James, was here every day checking on the progress and after they were all finished, he came back and photographed all the work. We are extremely pleased with both the workmanship and the service and will not hesitate to use them again.

They were on time, cleaned up after themselves, and did a very competent job. I'm satisfied with the price and quality of their work and would use them again.
Description of Work: Replacement of hot/cold water supply valves for shower and bathtub and diverter valve for bathtub. Replacement of pop-up in bathroom lavatory. Clearing of plug in shower drain. Valve internals being replaced dated from 1980; James Plumbing had them in stock-one set had a production run of about six months thirty years ago. Not the sort on thing you would find at a do-it-yourself store. John and Scott did the installation and came back-at no charge- two days later to correct a mistake.

The shower was our main concern, and we were talked out of having it repaired because it wouldn't fail for them and we were told it would be very expensive. Not long after the visit, the problem returned and began on another shower as well. The toilets were spraying the undersides of the lids and the water was running out from that. That problem was resolved, but the new hardware caused our toilets to run constantly. All day and night we would hear periodic water running in the toilets to catch up with lost water. We felt like we were almost in a worse condition than before they came out.
Description of Work: We had two toilets that were leaking and a shower that only gave hot water. They replaced the hardware in all 3 toilets and could not get the shower to have the problem for them, so they did not repair it.

Response from Mission AC, Plumbing & Electric South Houston
In response to this review, I researched this account and found the following. The work was performed on 09/10/2010 and he was charged $ 201.92 for repairing 2 commodes. The technician could not find any problem with the shower faucet as it was working properly when he was there. I instruct my technicians to be honest with my customers and not to fix something that is not broken. I do not want to be sold something I do not need and I refuse to mistreat my customers in that manner. Our business has been serving customers in this community since 1946 and the reason is that we provide quality service with integrity. I apologize for any disappointment with our service as we strive for 100% customer satisfaction. I have some questions as to why it took 2 1/2 years for you to bring this to my attention, and your reason for choosing this forum to do so. I have 5 office lines, a fax line, email, and my cell number is on my business card. If there were issues with our service, I would expect at least a phone call or message to discuss the matter. All of our work is guaranteed and if you had water running in the toilets, a simple phone call would have taken care of the problem. We would have returned at no charge to correct any issues with our repairs. Since I received no such call, and the reported date of service in the review was almost a year after the actual date, I have to question the accuracy and motives of this review. Any business can only respond to problems that are brought to their attention. I believe that the responsibility falls on the customer for communicating any problems with our services. At that point I can listen and respond to their issues. In looking over our reviews, I notice that this the only one that is negative. I appreciate any and all feedback on my business and the tool that Angie's List provides for both myself and the customer to learn more about one another. Sincerely, Sam D. I had called them previously to unclog the toilet. When the work was completed, I asked the price of installing a new toilet.since this was a recurring issue. I was quoted $400.00, for installation and toilet. When I called early Monday morning (several weeks later) I was told it would be sometime later that morning before someone could come. About 11:00 the plumber and his assistant arrived. I showed them what I had purchased and was told these were excellent products. The toilet was top of the line, and would have no issues with it. As they began to unpack everyhting, I had to ask for a quote. They ddi not volunteer it. When I asked about warranty of their work, I was told it is warranted for 1 year. The quote I was given was to be somewhere around $900.00 to $1000.00. The job took about 3 hours to complete. The final bill was $650.00, and there was a 5% off coupon from Angies list. It is exactly 9 days later from when the new toilet was installed. The toilet is clogged, I have been unable to unclog it. I called this morning at 11:30, explaining what the problem was and that I needed them to send a plumber back to my home. They took my number, and said they'd check. 2:00 they finally called back, just to say they were going ot see if they could get someone out. Nobody came today, nor did they bother to call to keep me posted . I am very disappointed with the lack of professionalism and lack of communication. I will not use them again.

Description of Work: I had a leak coming from the upstairs shower down into the downstairs bathroom. I called James Plumbing on a Friday afternoon, and he was able to show up the very next morning. He had to do some detective work to find the source of the leak, and did so in the least costliest way. He didn't wasted any time, and was very personable and professional.

I covered most of it above but it went very well and the job was done thoroughly.
Description of Work: I had a major plumbing problem with my bathroom facilities and kitchen sink. I call John Moore who said, for $5,000.00 they would tunnel 5 feet under my bathroom and replace a small section of broken pipe. James Plumbing tunnelled seven feet or more under the house and replace all of the bathroom and kitchen connections and ran new PVC out to the main sewer line and put in two (2) clean-outs. They did about 10 time the work for much less that John Moore was going to do. Having dealt with JM before I am sure that they would have "found" additional work that had to be done and the cost would have been astronomical. I cannot recommend James Plumbing and Magnum Contractors enough.

..They were quick and professional. The main guy even came inside and asked if there were any other problems in the houseafter they were done. I pointed out that the main bathroom had a slow faucet that was all the way open at the valve. He got his tools out and in a few seconds made an adjustment that doubled the flow rate. I asked him what extra I owed him, I had no problem paying for the improvement. He said not to worry about it
Description of Work: The pipe providing the main water supply to the house was rusted terribly. We called James Plumbing just because they said they could come the next day. We had our head set that it would need to be replaced all the way to the meter. They came and got me after a few minutes and showed me that the main part of it was fine. They could have just ripped it out of the ground and we would not have known the difference. Honesty is so rare these days!

These guys did an excellent job. I had a small (less than 2 gph) leak on a PVC line that was tied into my main water line. I searched for the leak myself to no avail. I called up James Plumbing and scheduled an appointment. They arrived right on time. I showed them everything I new about the problem and they began to look for the leak. It took a while, but they found it. These two gentlemen worked themselves to death hunting this problem. They ended up removing over 10 feet of shrubbery to find it (not to mention all of the mud and dirt). While they were here I had them do a couple of quick miscellaneous jobs, which they quickly jumped on. I was very impressed with their professionalism and responsiveness. I would definitely hire them again.

James plumbing did a great job. My sewer line detached itself from the city main. James plumbing did all the leg work in calling all the right people to mark any underground obstructions. The sewer line was about three feet deep with lots of roots from a nearby tree. It was hard digging but they kept at it and got it fixed.

I specifically requested this company after botched up jobs from local services. the professional service that was given, was unbelievable. It was a shame that I had to call 3 companies prior to finding one that was affordable, professional, courteous, and worked with my schedule. I do believe that this is because this company was started over 50 years ago and continues to be maintained and owned by the family members that retain the values and committment that the original owner, Sam James, now deceased, instilled. I would never use another company for my plumbing work. Mr. James's son and daughter continue the integrity that make this business the success it is today.I would recommend them to everyone. The plumbers were professional, timely, and very good at explaining the issues in 'lay terms'. They will always be my plumbing compnayKJ

Woke up in the morning to find water dripping from the ceiling and a wet spot in the carpet. I found and isolated the leaking pipe in the the attic. Called the company and provided my information to the receiptionist who told me a technician would call me ASAP. About 15 minutes later, a technician called and asked more details about the problem. He was at my house 10 minutes later. The technician was very polite and professional. He put a clamp on the pipe where the leak was, and placed additional clamps were he observed corrosion in an attempt to prevent another leak. (He didn't have the materials or assistance to replace the pipe at this time) He provided his recommendation and gave a reasonable estimate. From leak to repair took approximately 1 hours. I was truly amazed by the company's quick response and professional technician.
