I have used D & C Pool Repair for over three years. During that time they have successfully diagnosed and inexpensively repaired an electrical issue two previous providers could not. This alone saved me hundreds. Dave (owner) has also later replaced the control panel, as well as chlorine feeder at a price significantly better than that of competitors. I have reached a point with this company where they have my complete trust. I do not even bother to call other pool repair providers, knowing that any issue I have, a call to Dave will resolve it promptly and fairly.

I am going to update my review and give Dave an F. If I had hired a professional electrician and plumber, this work would probably all have been done in about three days or most probably less and you have just admitted in your response to me that what you did was illegal according to the Texas Department of Licensing and you can certainly be fined for doing electrical work on pool systems without a license. I bought a new filter and had a professional who is licensed to install it. Works perfectly. I also had to hire another professional pool person to come program the controller and the Polaris to run as they should. My Polaris now runs two hours per day and the pump runs at a much lower speed for eight hours per day. The pool professional showed me how to put the system in service mode so that I could at least check the Polaris filter when needed and also clean the filters. No, Dave couldn't program it correctly because of the filter issue, but I don't think he could have done it anyway. It takes way too long to read instructions and he should have knowledge of a system that he is working on. If you don't know what you're doing, just admit it and tell the person that you're not qualified to do the type of work they are asking you to do. And my major issue with Dave is that he really messed up the lighting, which is why I hired him in the first place. I called my electrician to fix the plug that was now non-working along with the lights because it was in one of the same boxes Dave had messed with. The lights were working when Dave left, but one of the GFI plugs tripped and they quit working and we couldn't get the GFI plug to reset. My electrician informed me that all of the wires were connected wrong and that anyone with basic knowledge of electrical wiring should know that you can not have two GFI plugs on the same electrical circuit because it will not work. One of the wires, which was blue, didn't do anything, yet Dave had it hooked to other wires. It took the electrician about three hours to straighten out Dave's mess. My lights and plug work perfectly now and if I have a problem with them, the electrician will come back out to fix anything that is wrong. I don't expect to see him for that reason again. Also, you can not separate the pool and spa light on my controller system because it just can't be done. Dave wasted about a week and a half working on that. Pentair has a tech department easily reachable by phone and he could have called them and they would have told him that it couldn't be done. Meanwhile, my pool sat without a running pump and now I have all sorts of problems with my pool water that I did not have before. This has cost me so much in money, time and frustration that I will never, ever hire someone who is not licensed in their trade. I don't know how Dave expects to become an electrician because that takes time. he never mentioned working under an electrician. You have to have an electrical license to work on pool controllers and anything to do with the electrical part of it. My electrician said he could be certified to work on pool electrical systems for an additional $200, but he's not interested in doing that unfortunately. Dave set the price for everything and we discussed it and agreed on his charges. I actually ended up paying him more than he originally stated because he did run into some extra things that he had originally not quoted me a price for. It's not like I cheated him out of anything. If he had known what he was doing, he could have finished the job much quicker. Dave made the problem out of the inside controller because all he had to do was just plug it in. It was already wired correctly, but he had to cut those wires and then put them back the way they originally were--his fault. You did look at the Polaris, disassembled it and tightened a couple of screws on it and said it needed a tune up. I don't remember the price you quoted. It cost me $199 (price of the complete tune-up kit) for Leslie's to rebuild it and it was done in about 20 minutes. And yes, I admit that I did freak out and panic because I never knew when Dave was actually going to show up and my pool was just sitting and stagnating. I imagine that anyone in the same position would also freak out and panic and not have been as patient as I was. Dave is a nice person, but I would definitely not hire him again. He is not licensed to do this type of work. You need to hire someone who is an electrician who also knows how to install pool controls. I called Dave because of his advertisement on Craigslist claiming that he knew how to install all types of pool system controllers. I had just bought a new Intelliflo pump, which the other person I hired just sort of jammed in there, and an outside and inside Easytouch control system for my pool. I'm definitely not an expert on pools, but the first person just did the basics and took the money and left without even hooking back up the pool and spa lights. That was the main reason why I hired Dave. Dave came out and immediately pulled all of the wiring off the outside controller. The pump was working at the time as well as the spa. Well, I had to trust him then because he had just disconnected everything to my pool. He worked for several hours the first night, had to come back the next night. I do work during the day and don't get home until in the afternoon, but I did leave my gate unlocked and my garage door unlocked every day for him to have access to the backyard and the electrical panel. I know he has to make a living doing repairs for other people also, so I pretty well understood that he couldn't show up each and every day. He would tell me though that he was going to show up at a particular time and he wouldn't show up at all or he'd show up about 6:30 or 7 leaving him a few hours of daylight left to work on my controller. Then he decided it would be a great idea to separate the pool and spa light so that they would operate separately I never asked him to do this and I didn't want him to do that. It was his idea. I just wanted the lights to work, period. The first Saturday he was here, his girlfriend called my cellphone wanting to know if Dave was at my house. I knew he was, but I wasn't at home. Then I started getting a lot of really crazy text messages from her talking all kinds of trash about him and I was trying to figure out how in the world she got my cell number. I didn't need that type of harassment nor did I want to hear what she thought of her boyfriend. She showed up at the house a couple of times and I stayed inside. All of these repairs went on errantly for about two and a half weeks. He did manage to replumb my system and clean the heater and he knew what he was doing with those and it looks nice and operates correctly except that I can't run the pump at a lower speed because he told me that my filters were shot. When he told me that I had had enough and just told him to run it at full blast so that the Polaris would clean the pool because the pool had been down for about a month and was filthy. He set it to run from 8 in the morning until 8 at night even though I requested that it run later at night. I can't even figure out how to turn the pump off when it's running except by going and turning off the power at the electrical panel. I did finally take my Polaris to Leslie's and had it repaired there because Dave looked at it and said it needed a tune-up which he wanted to do, but i just let Leslie's take are of it and I'm glad I did. So basic jist, Dave knows how to do some things very well and others not so well and all I can say is be forewarned and cautious when you hire him. If it involves your control systems, do yourself a favor and hire a professional electrician who knows how to work on controllers. I have now hired a professional electrician/plumber to come install the new filter and I will have him check over the control panel to make sure that everything is hooked up correctly, which is what I should have done in the first place and saved myself all of this hassle and aggravation and especially the money I wasted. Lesson learned trying to save a few bucks. It ended up costing me more than if I had hired the professionals recommended by Pentair. I did try repeatedly to get them to come out, but they never returned my phone calls.
Description of Work: Tried to correct the mistakes of a different person I originally hired who claimed that he knew how to work on pool control installation.

Response from D and C Pool Repair
Let me just say you can please some people some of the time but you can't please everyone all the time. On another note (member name removed) is a very nice lady although she completely panics at the drop of the hat , the comment about your lights not working was not true in fact I showed her the lights worked before I went home that day . I had wanted to wire the lights to work independently of one another but she said no she wanted them to both come on together, which they did ! As far as the wiring in the outdoor controller , it was a mess so I pulled everything out and started from scratch when I was done everything was working the way it was suppose to . I did a lot of work for her for a very low price . Rewired the outdoor controller wired the indoor controller ,wired the pool and spa lights, cleaned the heater disassembled cleaned heat exchanger burner tubes gas orifices and cabinet, re installed the variable speed pump because it was installed with old wiring and wasn't plumbed the right way or wired, the conduit wasn't even attached to the fittings. Re-plumbed the entire system with all new valves ( which she had paid for the valves) the only thing that wasn't changed was the filters, and the one filter was leaking so bad when the variable speed pump was in low speed she would have lost a lot of water had it been left that way. So the pump was programed to run at high speed (the only way the filter would not leak) As far as you taking your polaris cleaner to someone else ,you wanted me to look at it and I never had time to so I don't know what your talking about. So anyway yes it took awhile to complete everything but I did have other work to do also but when I left your system was up and running filter pump, water fall pump which I left out that I changed all the seals in it also and re-plumbed ,spa blower, lights, heater which wasn't even wired to the controller, the only thing that was not finished was the programing of the variable speed pump which I had programed once already but had to set it to run at high speed due to her leaking filter. So I feel this review is unjust ,I was up front with you about certain qualifications which will be taken care of shortly ,but I did the job you hired me for and more so im sorry your upset I hope you found time to write a review on the guy you hired before me!! (The girlfriend issue was handled) Thanks Dave
