The Mason that does the work did a good job. The problem was that the individual that came out to quote the project over quoted THE repairs needED. IN SUMMARY I WOULD NOT TUST THIS COMPANY! I am 71 years old and believed THE person that suggested this company. I MADE A BIG MISTATE. How did this occur? The estimator convinced me that the expansion joints had to be redone. The couple of brick repairs was the reason I asked them to come out. The mason came out a couple of weeks later. I was out on a errand when he got here and stared the work. As soon as I got home I went out to talk to him. HE FLATELY TOLD ME THAT I DIDN'T NEED THE WORK.-THE EXPANSION JOINTS DIDN'T NEED TO BE DONE. THE COUPLE OF CRACKS WAS ALL I INITIALLY I WANTED FIXED. AGAIN I WAS CONVINCED BY A YOUNG MAN THAT I NEEDED THE EXPANSION JOINT FIXED. I appreciated the mason being honest. I called a couple of time to discuss with the owner and had not receive a copy of the invoice. I came home one time and saw someone outside my home. HE WENT OVER TO MAIL BOX AND WENT THROUGH IT (Fed Crime?) I notice a piece of paper in my door. It was the bill. I called to talked to the owner. I tried to explain the problem with his employee OVER QUOTING THE JOB AND INCLUDING ITEMS THAT IT TURNS OUT I DIDN['T NEED DONE (REMEMBER THE MASON EXPRESSED HIS OPINION) The whole conversation he didn't listen but tried to talk over me. I did record it. I tried a number of times to explain the reason I contacted them to fix a couple of cracks (Cosmetically) but was convince I needed other work that was not. I WOULD NOT TRUST THIS COMPANY AND WHAT THEY SAY NEEDS TO BE DONE. THEY OVER QUOTED ME THE OWENER TRIED TO CONVICE ME IT WAS NECESSARY (CONTRARY TO THE MASON) . MY OPINION THIS IS NOT THE FIRST TIME AND WILL NOT BE THERE LAST. I HAVE NOT MENTIONED THE ESTIMASTOR NAME BECAUSE I DON'T WANT TO HURT A YOUNG MAN FUTURE OVER ONE MISTAKE.

Brick and Stone Masters did a fantastic job. They were prompt, knowledgeable, polite and very easy to work with. Matt, the project manager, was very helpful in picking out the stone and did an excellent job in explaining the process of applying the manufactured stone and in mounting the 2 heavy cast stone crown moulding pieces. The proposal he sent us was very professional and stated exactly what was to be done and how it would be done. Ricky and Charlie, the masons, did an excellent job in applying the stone, protecting the surrounding floors and in cleaning up after themselves. The price was very competitive. I had met with many other companies about this project, but most did not come close to the professionalism shown by Brick and Stone Masters. I would not hesitate to use them again.

Brick and Stone Masters actually came a bit ahead of schedule, which was nice, and they were very good about trying to help resolve our cracking issues while keeping within our budget. There was initially a misunderstanding about how the repairs were to be done, but Brick and Stone Masters readily came back and addressed the issues right away. They paid attention to the details and seemed very dedicated to producing quality work. Our bricks look much better and we are very happy.

Response from Brick & Stone Master
Dear {Member name removed} , We do apologize for this inconvenience and delay in responding. As the office manager of Brick and Stone Master, I do take customer service seriously, however, I have contacted Angie's List several times regarding the email and phone call notifications that we are NOT receiving. We no longer have an account with Angie's List and this is partially the reason why and they do have our name in their provider list, but they fail to inform us when we have a customer message or request. I am in the process of handling this, as I thought I had fixed this 2 months ago, when we originally received this rating. For some reason, my requests have been ignored and I believe that hurts you as an Angie's List customer, as well as our reputation in the masonry community. It is hard to trust a service that is not informing businesses of there customers needs, after all, that is what the membership is supposed to do in the first place. Again, I apologize and we are not going to stop until the problem has been fixed.

The salesman was prompt, polite and knowledgeable. The man who did the actual work, Michael, was the same. The brick work is excellent and works seamlessly into the preexisting structures. I was pleased with the price, and the craftsmanship.
Description of Work: Brick & Stone master did sever projects at our house. They inserted a security mail box into a bricked surround which entailed removing the top third of the brick, securing the mailbox, and re-bricking. We had them repair cracked bricks on the side of a 2 story house and they also created an expansion gap so the bricks don’t crack again. Finally they created an extension on a porch which included rebar, cement, and decorative brick laying.

A representative came to the house and gave us a written estimate, Photos were provided to help us select the type of mailbox, and then samples of stone and brick were brought to the house for our selection. The mason visited our home and made an appointment to do the work. He arrived on time, and completed the work as agreed. Michael, the stone mason, was extremely meticulous and talented. His work was beautiful and he cleaned the work site after he finished so well we couldn't tell that he had been there except for the beautiful, new mailbox. We would recommend this company to anyone who wants a brick or stone mailbox installed or repaired.

The company appears to be very professional. Sales Rep made initial visit and due to what we wanted asked Owner ( Bill Schultheis ) to visit, Bill is very professional and experienced. As we discussed the overall remodel he recommended another person he works with from a construction company to do the work other then the fireplace; removing kitchen cabinets, removing cabinets, removing wall, and adding recessed lighting. This person became the interface with Brick and Stone Master and things went well until we fine tuned the details and asked for a lower price. This construction company lowered their portion of the quote and when I asked for a lower price through this person from Stone Master the details were covered but the formal price quote remained the same. I asked the construction company about it and he said he would talk to Bill, no response back from them, I personally called twice and left voice messages for Bill to please call me. Again no response. This all occurred around Christmas. Last week I received a follow up call from the original sales rep ( Mike ) asking if we had decided anything about the fireplace work. If the owner of a company gets offended because a prospect asks for better a better price and does not have the courtesy to return a phone call ( twice ) I certainly would not recommend that company.

Response from Brick & Stone Master
Member, a project manager with 5 years experience, went on the initial appointment November 19, 2011. Member discussed options with the homeowner over the course of approximately one and one half hours at this appointment. Due to the scope of work requested, Member asked that I (Bill Schultheis) review the proposed work as well. I went on a second appointment and spent approximately two hours with the homeowner discussing the remodel. As Brick and Stone Master only does masonry work, I recommended a general contractor named Jeff Treibs to handle all of the framing, sheetrock, cabinets etc. The homeowner informed me that the he already had someone in mind for that portion of the job, but would call Jeff and get an estimate from him. Jeff spent many hours and had countless conversations with the homeowner discussing procedures and cost. It was explained several times that Brick and Stone Master and Jeff Treibs are two separate entities. Brick and Stone Master has a great working relationship with Jeff and holds him in the highest regard, thus my willingness to recommend him. The homeowner received the formal proposal from Brick and Stone Master on November 29, 2011. Jeff informed the homeowner that any discretion in the contract price from Brick and Stone Master should be discussed with me. All of the staff at Brick and Stone Master have spoken to the homeowner and done their best to appease him and get the answers for questions he had. I talked to Mr. Welch about a few changes on the phone. One of the major changes was that he and his wife wanted cultured stone on the North and South side of the fireplace. A revised proposal was sent on December 15,2011 and the price remained the same, however, the wording was changed in the proposal. I agreed to upgrade two of the walls to cultured stone vs. brick at no additional charge. Typically these upgrades would cost an additional $900.00. That was a huge discount I gave to a potential customer to get their business. Occasionally, I will offer discounts or payment options to cold files after a period of time has passed. Negotiating contracts and prices is what I have done for the past 28 years in the masonry business. 24 out of the 28 years in the masonry business I have been an estimator, project manager and owner. I have successfully signed approximately 5,700 contracts for masonry work to be completed and have sent out over approximately 12,000 total estimates. Any assumption of my getting offended is incorrect and way off base. In this instance, the discount was given through an upgrade at no additional charge. I was out of town from December 22nd through January 3rd. We had two project managers in the office except for Christmas and New Years day. I did not have any messages left for me to contact Member. On January 12, 2012, David, one of the project managers at Brick and Stone Master, called the homeowner to follow up. David inquired as to if the work had already been done or if they were still considering using Brick and Stone Master for the masonry portion of the remodel. The homeowner said they were still checking prices and were interested in having the work done. David was asked to call again toward the end of the month and they may have a decision made at that point. (Member filed his report one week after the follow up phone call on January 12th.) If hiring a respectful, honest, exceptional and quality company is not in a potential client's budget, then they would be advised to look at other options and not be disgruntled at the company bidding the job.

My old brick mail box was destroyed when a driver of a chevy pick up truck ran over the sidewalk and head on into my mailbox. I had three estimates and Brick Master was in the middle range of all three. The company had no reports on Angie's List but did have a BBB rating of A+. I had used their services several years ago and decided to have the company do the rebuilding of my mailbox using stone vs brick. The mason employed by Brick Master, Michael, did an outstanding job and took about two days to fully complete the work. His work was simply great and we are very satisfied with the finished product.
