Description of Work: Contracted with Camex to replace the roof on my house. I chose Camex over other contractors because: 1. the price, although not the lowest, was competitive (very important since my insurance company denied my claim); 2. they did a neighbor's roof and they got the job done quickly; projected 1.5-2 days; and 3. they stated that they are a trained and certified CertainTeed contractor. Also, the owner is extremely personable and I was confident that the job would be done correctly. As far as I can tell, it was. | |Unfortunately, by noon of the second day they noticed that they were running short of material and things really started to slow down. Camex's owner then reviewed his measurements and calculations. I was then told that the satellite missed a part of the roof, where the roof drops down to one story over part of the master bed/bath (460+/- sq. ft.). [Camex uses "state of the art satellite technology" to determine measurements for; area, valleys, start edges, hips and ridges. Their Yelp ad says; "Never any un-calculated costs." (ref: www.yelp.com/camex-supply-co-new-caney-2)] I asked what that meant and he sort of laughed and suggested that we not replace that roof. I thought he was kidding, and told him that it had to be done (per our contract and my deed restrictions) and he said that they would then have to come back and finish it in the morning. He had seen this bit of one-story roof a number of times; and, since it was lower, he had even used it to point out some of the things he was going to do to make sure the roofing job was done correctly. | |When they finished, I said that I'd go get his final check and he told me I needed to add almost 10% of the total price, for the "extra roof". At first I again thought he was kidding, he wasn't. I refused and gave him the check for the final, agreed upon, payment. I contracted for the whole roof for a price; and paid the full contracted amount. | |I had been told that I would be getting some warranty materials from CertainTeed; but, after 3 weeks, when I contacted Camex the response was "CertainTeed already knows that you haven't paid in full. And I have not closed your file." | |I then contacted CertainTeed and they said that they never heard of Camex Supply Co. or Camx Roofing and Restoration, or; the owner; and thus they are not one of CertainTeed's certified contractors. So there is nothing CertainTeed can do if there are issues with the installation. Also, the representative from CertainTeed's Roofing Division stated that the satellite company never makes a mistake (the same thing was told to me, on-line, by 2 other roofers). | |No doubt; Camex does a quality and timely roofing job. | |However, I would strongly recommend that anyone looking to install CertainTeed roofing products, with their warranty and customer support, get bids from the contractors on the CertainTeed web site. | |P.S.; I asked Camex if they were subcontracting under a CertainTeed certified contractor, and who that might be, but I did not get a response.
