He is basically a contractor. He has subcontractors I would assume that he would bring for whatever he needs for whatever part of the job. When they installed the floor, they had to take out the toilet and there is also a plumber that came in to do that and then there was a crew that installed the floor. I have used him in building a patio basically in the back and a couple of minor jobs. He is just easy to work with. They do a very high quality work. If there is an issue, they are going to take care of it. I have probably used them five or six times already.
Description of Work: I have used Rockbridge Construction to replace the floors most in the downstairs with hardwood that included churning up the tiles in the kitchen and putting down hardwood floors.

He told us the whole work would be finished within 2 months. It took us almost 5 month when Rockbridge Construction left us with the project half way finished. He collected 90% of the project's price we agreed on and stopped the work and sopped answering the phone. He damaged our lot and now we have to repair sceptic and our neighbor's lot. We have to pay a lot of extra money to finish the construction project and even more to get all the repairs done. It is not a solid and fair company.

I selected Joel to build this music room because of his representation as a sound proofing expert. Needless to say, the room is not sound proof at all. I am a musician and I wanted to build a room where everyone else in the house could not hear me playing, but everyone can hear me loud and clear. This wasn't the only problem I had with Joel and his company Rockbridge Construction. The finish work is all average with very little attention to detail, especially around baseboards. We had to modify the tile backsplash in the kitchen adjoining wall to the new room but the grout didn't dry to match the current grout. The additional air conditioner he installed for the room freezes up anytime it is set below 76 and leaks water down the wall onto the carpet. Obviously I keep the A/C above 76 now, but that shouldn't happen at all. Initially he installed stained concrete on the floor in the music room, but the stain looked horrible and he agreed so he put in carpet. When it came time at the end of the job for the last payment, he decided I should pay for the stained concrete and the carpet install. I disagreed and told him he should cover the cost of his poor workmanship. But he insisted on splitting the additional cost between the two of us. In my mind, if you do not deliver the product that is agreed, you are required to make the buyer whole and cover the cost of doing so. All in all, it seemed like he really just wasn't capable of doing the job that he advertised. He started the job quick, and laid the slab, but then there were weeks at a time with no progress at all. Its been about a year since the additional room and bathroom were put in and the walls are still standing, the roof hasn't caved in, and we haven't sustained any major financial losses from his work, so he got the job done. It was just very painful getting here, costing more than was initially communicated, and with a work product that is not the best. I hate writing bad reviews about people, especially when it could effect their company's viability, but I feel obligated to share my experience with the Angie's List community, especially after it hasn't saved me from so many blunders over the years.
Description of Work: Joel May acted as the general contractor for the addition of a approx. 400 sq. ft. room and full bathroom onto my existing home. This was a full construction with laying of slab, plumbing, electrical, framing, sheet rock, tile, etc.

Joel May owns the company and he is really good to work with. The outdoor porch that he put in was done really, really nicely, and for a decent price. My experience was fabulous. He did what he said he was going to do. The house is fourteen years old but it looks like it was built on the house, not that it is weathered but it just fits perfectly. There was an issue with the masonry work; Joel subcontracts his masonry work that did a crappy job and he came over that afternoon, made the guy tore it completely down and got it redone. He was truly embarrassed, truly took the ownership, and got it done and it just beautiful. In fact, we are taking in bids for getting an outdoor kitchen done, and we are certainly going with him. The porch he connected is really seamless. My life loves sitting out when it is raining or storming, we didn’t have that opportunity when we got the house, so she always wanted something like that. So Joel did the work and he put some recess lights in the ceiling and a fan that is both controlled from inside the house. It is just a really, really good job. It was somewhere between $8000 and $9000 and that was a good price. We asked him for a quote on the outdoor kitchen job.
Description of Work: I used Rockbridge Construction to build an outdoor porch. There was an old trailer type thing there off the back door, so there was no real porch there so what they did was, they pulled it forward and connected it into the current roof.
