Description of Work: They brought two trucks and began the move. In the process, they nicked a wall but it appeared to go well the first half. I took a few pics as they loaded the truck floor to ceiling and I questioned the furniture placement on a few items. The camera was then placed on a counter in the kitchen (never packed) and that was the last I ever saw of it, the case, the media and extras. I had vacation pictures as well as pre-move photos of all furniture in my home. I was devastated as there were many important photos on the media that was lost with the case. | The move out of the house went well until they went to my storage unit. I was out of the house for over an hour at the storage unit while most of the crew were still at my house. They later went back to the house to get items they had forgotten but I was not there to see any of this. Hmmmmm...As I mentioned, the camera never materialized and when I realized it, I called the company. The sales person suggested I file a police report. I filed a police report and had bought their full coverage but they denied the loss of the camera. They continued to ignore me an I had t go purchase another camera and media, battery, etc. again. Almost 500.00 lost. They would not pay for the camera as I could not prove it was stolen. (so out a camera, and purchased another to replace the LOST one.) But I digress. Once they got to the destination, things got very sloppy with the move. They (or the bouncing of the truck) damaged several pieces of furniture. They did send out a repair company to repair the furniture. While it looks good, my office furniture was new and pristine and had to have a number of repairs which are not the same as new. They did not move about 40 boxes plus additional furniture into the house that should have been placed in the house and left them in garage. Three was food and items that had been in air conditioned storage that were ruined in 100 degree garage in Houston in July and August: candles, many expensive craft papers, hand made scrapbooks, albums, food items. It was so packed into the garage I could not get to the boxes in the center. I complained that they left things in my garage that were possibly ruined due to heat. They were in a/c storage or in my home for a reason! Two weeks after my move they sent a man back out to move the stuff into the house that should have been there from day 1. They denied the claims of the heat damaged items too though it was their fault. The claims for the heat damaged items weren't that much in dollar value but I did throw out semi melted expensive PartyLite candles. Some survived. Much canned goods and other foodstuffs that were pantry items were tossed as I did not trust it after being left in the heat. They denied almost everything that wasn't furniture damages, though I had proof of the damaged items. I tried many times through email to get a response but was ignored and they would not send me the additional claim form I needed. I decided to challenge my insurance premium until they responded. They settled it with the credit card and the credit card said they agreed to dismiss it. I was willing to let it go at that point. But then they harassed me personally for the charges and said they would not consider my additional claims that they never took until I paid. The credit company said they dismissed the charges! The only reason I challenged the full coverage fees to were because they ignored my pleas for a claim form to complete and would not call me back for months. Challenging the fee was my last attempt to get someone to help me. They said they would consider my claim almost six months later, so I sent them the money for the full coverage when I talked to a real person. Once they got my money, and my claim, they denied my claim saying it was sent months too late. They conveniently did not mention any timeline when I called to complain that my prior attempts at making my claims were ignored for months. My claims were never investigated by a real person--just denied without allowing me to file all claims. |Two of the people who were on my move were not employees of the company-- I asked them and they said they had never worked for Johnson, but another company. They said the main moving man hired them since he was short a few men. That bothered me a lot since I asked if all movers were actual employees of the company prior to hiring this company. | I had well over 1000.00 of items denied (a disappearing camera) and they did not consider items I countered. An example was a fan that was broken. They denied because they said I didn't have it. I do have it, told them so, but they would not respond to the prior denial. Also denied a modular unit that they broke. Wheels and small clips/ parts that hold it together were lost. They said they looked in the truck. Guess what? they could have been lost at the first house, in the drive way, the yard, the street, just about anywhere! I still have the broken unit here but they only ignored me. Do yourself a favor and choose another company. I was ignored through my attempt at many emails for help and was lied to about their considering my additional claim when I finally got to a real person 6 months later. The denial said it was submitted way too late. Then why did they tell me I could submit for consideration when they knew they were going to automatically deny it? I have been happy with most companies I have used through Angie's list, but not here. While I am quite dissatisfied, I guess there are enough people to keep them in business regardless of customer satisfaction. I wish they had more care in their customer service department. I will likely make a complaint to the BBB regarding their claims ignoring me until the timeline expired.

Some of the process which took place over several months went well - comparable to many past moves. There were a few broken items that should have been packed better. Compared to past moves this was about at the average level. The storage and extra handling that results did not explicitly make things worse, which was a positive. The volume/weight was estimated conservatively, so total costs came in under the original estimate. What was a huge negative in the whole experience was the organizing of the Sugar Land packing. Over the years my wife became very effective at saying what needed to go in the box for a particular room; what needed to go in another box for the storage unit, and what needed special attention. She made sure that dishes were not packed with a closet from another room. This time, once the packing process got started, it happened through so many people who could not speak English without oversight, so that the packing readily got out of control. It is not acceptable to wrap up a platter in a blanket and slide it is a wardrobe box from another room. Some of the special large, breakable packing was done well. However, the normal large volume of household goods ended up in too many miscellaneous boxes that made a reasonable unpacking process at the other end impossible. This was much, much worse than any of our previous moves. There was also some difficulty getting Missouri City office personnel to call back about administrative and billing questions.
Description of Work: Provided initial estimate for moving and storage services. Packed up home in Sugar Land; stored household items; moved furnishings to new home and storage unit in Austin; and, unpacked and set up a few of the furnishings (beds, tables) in the new home.

This was the second move that Thomas Transfer completed for us. The move was < 5 miles both times, and within 6 months of each other. The guys worked very hard and quickly, and nothing was damaged in either move. I'd use them again if needed!
Description of Work: Moved furniture and boxes that we had packed.

Poor care was taken to protect the furniture. Much of it was dinged and scratched. This appeared to be due to their haste to get the job done quickly. Pads were not used to protect the furniture (mostly wood), hence the damage. Thomas was fairly responsive in sending someone over to repair the damage, but denied doing the damage in some cases. I understand that disputes may arise, and I surely may have missed something, but I would think a professional mover would take a digital photo of anything that even remotely looked like damage before even touching it. Particularly disappointing was their attitude that, since the furniture was old and not in the best of condition to begin with, their liability was minimized. We paid top dollar to get a first class job, and we didn't get it.
Description of Work: Moved our small 8 room office across town (25 miles?). Furniture, boxes, etc.

It went very well. They arrived when they were supposed to. They were flexible. The move went a day faster then expected. So far there has been no sign of anything broken or damaged.
Description of Work: They came to my house and they packed up and moved all my belongings about two miles away for me.

It went well. The movers were friendly and helpful and worked steadily.
Description of Work: They fully packed and moved me from a 3-bedroom house to a 2-bedroom condo. It was a local move, and they moved everything including plants and dozens of boxes of books.
