in March 2012, i found out i was being transferred to Midland for work in May. at this point we started searching for houses, and with no luck we decided to look at building. Our initial meeting with Tom Woodruff went great, they were currently building a spec home in our price range that we liked so we put our contract down. they were even flexible with us allowing us to put half the deposit down one month, and the other half the following month. a lot of the options you normally get to pick when building a new home were already decided/ordered, but we liked everything they picked out so far, and even got to choose and add different things to the plan. assured that they were on time for our mid-June closing date, we headed back to Houston and requested that they send us pictures of any updates to the house as time went on. the closer we got to our closing date, the more nervous we got if they would finish on time. they were literally installing the fence and landscaping the day of closing. on our pre-closing walk through there were quite a few items that had be finished which we were okay moving in before they were done, they did a decent job at completing those in a timely manner with the exception of our living room fan and wrought-iron gate. after closing the lady we worked with, Brandy, began ignoring our phone calls/texts and never returned them when we needed something fixed they forgot to do. luckily their superintendent Nick was great at fixing things we needed done. all in all, building is stressful and i doubt there is a single builder in west texas, or Texas for that matter, that gives the home owner a stress free build!!! one thing i was reluctant to do was pay the $160ish per square foot. i guess thats just how it goes in a booming city! i will say the house has a lot of custom touches and is definitely a head turner in our neighborhood.
