J & M DISCOUNT FENCE

This is the worst fence company! Stay far away from him! We contracted on 9/19/08 for him to put up a fence that shouldn't had taken more than 1 week. 3 months later we had to fire him for non-performance of work, and he has thousands of dollars of our money. He wouldn't show up to work half the time, and when he did show up, he would only work a few hours than leave. The most he ever showed up was 3 days in a week. At the end he didn't show up at all for weeks. We would call him to see why he wasn't showing up. He always had excuses like too cold, too windy, doctor's appointments, dentist appointments, anything he could make up. Most of the time he wouldn't call or show up. We would have to contact him. The quality of his work is terrible. I knew it was bad (leaning posts, rails coming out of the post when it was windy, etc), but didn't know how bad until another fence company came and looked at his work, and pointed things out to us only another professional would notice. He also says he needs 1/2 the money at the start, and the other 1/2 upon completion. What he did to us is ask us for "draws" of thousands of dollars at a time until the whole job was almost paid off. When we mentioned the 1/2 up front, and the other 1/2 upon completion, he would say he needed it to buy materials, etc. That he didn't have any money of his own to buy materials. He always had a story. Once he would get a draw, he wouldn't show up for days after. He has a contract that protects him, like requiring mandatory arbitration so people can't sue him. All we can do now is take him to arbitration, which will cost us around $1,000 more, while he sits with $11,000 of our money, and we have a terrible excuse of a fence up with no gates. Our outside dogs are still having to live in the house because we cannot let them out since the fence isn't finished. It was the worst mistake of our life to hire this "company". It really is just a 1 man operation. I wish someone had reported him on Angie's List so I would had stayed far away from him. It has been an extremely expensive lesson. Don't get taken like we did.
