All Pro replaced my roof in February 2017. Overall this has been a very frustrating experience, but I do have a functional roof. I can not recommend their services. To be fair, I expect contractors to pay attention to detail, do what they say they will do, own and rectify any mistakes, and be proactive. The homeowner should not be expected to be an expert, do their own work, nor badger the contractor for fixes and continually take time off of their job to be available at the contractor’s preference. Pros: Competitive price Very favorable reviews from work in prior years under former ownership Good products, good flashing install and good sealant application, even a decent paint job on the tin and lead Fast scheduling Very favorable payment schedule Cons: Several major mistakes, several minor mistakes. The crew must have known that they made mistakes, but did not alert me, nor the office. Limited follow-up, difficulty getting mistakes corrected Little interest in making things right The install itself went smoothly. The foreman did not introduce himself. One guy spoke some english - we discussed where he could park the trailer. No one from the office visited the site during the install. Major mistakes: I confirmed with the city that All Pro did NOT pull a permit to perform the reroof. My city requires permits for >25% reroof, and this was a complete reroof. The crew sealed the furnace vent. The wrong size vent caps were procured, yet the crew attempted to install an oversize cap by pushing it all the way down and securing with a screw through the pipe. This sealed the vent. We found this when the weather turned cold a few days after the install, and woke up to a cold house. Thankfully, the safety checks in our furnace were fully functional. This is an exceptionally dangerous situation, and we have a baby in our house. I am fairly handy, so worked on it that morning, discovered what was wrong, and set about fixing it. The office called when I was trying to diagnose it and offered to come look at it the next day during business hours. I didn’t consider it OK to leave the house cold for at least a day, plus take off more time from work for a chat, then take off more work again for a fix some time down the road. I clearly expressed what was done wrong and sent pictures, but the company never came back to fix the vent. They did show up to collect a check that I left at the house a few days later, but apparently did not take a look at the vent at that time. I was able to do a temporary fix the morning I found the issue. I gave up waiting for them after about a month and did the correct permanent fix myself. To be fair I did not call them repeatedly. The office offered to reimburse me for the materials I had to buy if I could provide a receipt. No consideration was given for my time, the delays, nor the risk presented to my family. Not even an apology. Again, this is an exceptionally dangerous situation and the fact that we had a newborn in the house makes me especially upset. The insurance company funded replacing the covers of my 3 power vents, but not the mechanism. The crew arrived with three vent covers. They removed my power vents entirely and just installed the covers leaving so-called “passive” vents. I didn’t even think to check this for a few weeks. When I told the office, they expressed disbelief and said they would have to come inspect it themselves. So I had to take more time off work so they could get into the attic, glance at the vents and agree it was just as I said. They agreed to install new vents. The office positioned this as doing me a favor, as though it was my fault their crew installed incorrect parts. I found a nail - point side up - coming up through a single. I pointed this out to the office representative when he did finally inspect the roof with me and he said he would pull it and seal the hole when replacing the power vents. This never happened. I fixed it myself. Several (8 to 10) nails in the ridges did not get set correctly. They went in sideways leaving the head protruding at an angle, pushing up the shingle. Some were high enough to cause the shingle to tear. I pointed out one during the inspection but said there were several like that. They pulled that one nail, did not apply any sealant, and did not fix any of the others. Minor mistakes: The water heater vents were disconnected, pushed down, and cemented in place. It’s normal for vents to come apart during a reroof, but I expect them to be reconnected and in the right place before applying sealant. That didn’t happen, so I had to break them apart to re-set the vent elbows. The office spoke at length about how diligent they are about cleanup and picking up nails. I know some nails will always be left behind - it’s the nature of the job - but I picked up over 4 dozen nails around the house and in the street. They use very large nails and one got into a tire of one of my cars, so I had to replace the tire. The office had no interest in this issue, not even an apology. Nails in a street are especially surprising as they are very easy to pick up. When replacing the power vents, the agreement was they would attempt to do the wiring from the outside. If they couldn’t, then they would contact me to schedule time that Friday afternoon to wire them. I did not hear from the company and they did not do the wiring. So I wired it myself that weekend so I wouldn’t have to take more time off of work. The office promised to install improved vent covers and correct the insurance filing for the number of vent stacks and fixtures. None of that happened. The office promised to take down my gutters. This was purely a favor, so no harm, no foul, but still was forgotten. I was planning to take down the gutters before the reroof so they would be picked up by the city on their once-a-month bulk day, and so the drip rail wouldn’t have to be cut around the gutter screws. The office convinced me to leave them up to catch nails and they would take them down and haul off. They didn’t. There were two bundles of ridge shingles left over after the job. I left them on my driveway. They suddenly disappeared the day that the crew came back out to replace the power vents several weeks after the roof was installed. I’m not saying All Pro took them, because I didn’t see who did, but the timing certainly was interesting.. So I ended up with a good roof, but it required me to know what I was looking at, do my own work, and still badger the office to fix the most significant issues. Overall, I’d say All Pro does not respect your time and does not pay attention to details. Every contractor I’ve worked with in the past has worked with me to make things right whenever problems were encountered. Not so with All Pro. For a quick and cheap job that you can competently oversee (and correct) yourself, they’re fine. For a typical homeowner, much of this would have been very difficult.
