Purchased two waters heaters. Contacted Home Depot for first attempt. Company responding was not on Angie's list and was disappointed. I did not even let them start the job. Frustrated, I looked on Angie's list and picked the best I could find. Baker's Brothers Plumbing was extremely helpful on the phone and the plumbers very professional and considerate. The only complaint is they need to be more thorough on clean-up (minor issue considering). This company is honest and good. Use them. Final cost matched estimate to the penny. My thanks to all who offer these ratings.
Description of Work: Baker's Brothers Plumbers replaced two 50 gallon water heaters from my 2nd floor attic. Although the tanks were accessible once in the attic, they had a tight squeeze through the attic access ladder. They replaced my cheap PVC and corroded knobs with new copper pipes and new knobs. The new 10 year 50 gallon Rheem tanks were put in with three people--only one stayed to finish the job. Throughout they were considerate of my carpet and wore shoe covers and placed floor covers throughout. Finally, the City permit person came out the next day to review their work--They Passed.

I called Baker Brothers because both of our outdoor faucet/hose fittings were leaking. They sent Brian and Chris out to take a look and after examination they realized they were going to have to remove the brick around the faucets because there was no male/female connection near the fitting. The outdoor faucet fittings were relatively cheap models and had hard copper piping back behind the brick. They knocked the bricks out and removed the old stuff and replaced them with male/female faucets where the brick meets the fitting. Now if they leak again the brick around the fitting will not have to be removed. Hopefully that is not necessary but you never know. While discussing the work for this Brian asked if there was anything else around the house that needed to be looked at. We had just moved into our home appx 2 months before and I knew that the water heater was about 14 years old. It had been spewing white chunks into the sinks due to a bad part of some kind. He said that it should be replaced because 14 years was over its useful life (which I agreed). He also said that Bakers Brothers could provide me with some discounts if I agreed to do the water heater replacement that day with the other work. It would save them travel expenses etc. I had originally planned on purchasing a less expensive water heater than the Rheem model he installed, but he explained to me that it was worth the appx. $200.00 extra because GE models have several problems that can cost $100-$200 to fix within the first five years. He also said that they don't carry them for that very reason. I am usually weary of product endorsements from the same people that sell the product, but Bakers Brothers has a very high rating on Angie's List and Brian seemed very knowledgeable and professional. He left the decision to me and I decided to go ahead and have all the work done. They performed all the work that day and cleaned up well. The only hiccup was in scheduling the mason to come out and replace the brick were they had knocked out the holes. This took a couple of weeks and the wind continually blew off the trash bag/duct tape covers that had been placed over the holes. Luckily it did not rain until 2 days after the brick was replaced. Of the $2,400.00 final price, $400.00 was for the removal of the brick and another $400.00 for the brick replacement. Overall I am satisfied. It was quite expensive, but my wife and I are happy with the new water heater and the outdoor faucets no longer leak and the replacement brick matches the old stuff.
Description of Work: Removed brick (replaced by Baker Brothers Mason). Replaced two outdoor faucet fixtures and piping. Removed old water heater and installed new water heater.

Came late in the afternoon to give an estimate and then the dispatch called and scheduled the work to be done six days later. Very professional in the job they preformed. Only thing I wish they would have cut a limb from the shrub which was in their way with loppers instead of bending a tearing it off.

I woke up at 2 in the morning to hear a dripping sound; the water heater was dripping down the conditioning vent onto our rug. We turned off the water and connected our hose and drained the heater into the shower. Unfortunately, in the process we stripped the water valve and ended up with no water to the house. I called Baker Brothers and was greeted by Susie - cheerful, sympathetic and quick! She said someone would be here that afternoon and I settled in for a long day of working from home with no shower. To my delight, they called back and said, "do you mind if we come early - in 45 minutes?". Brian and Craig showed up at my door and quickly assessed the situation. They not only had to replace the water heater, but there were valves and pipes and new building codes to work on. I was prepared for the estimate - I had done some checking online. They finished the work in an efficient amount of time and it was a thing of beauty. They also adjusted their estimate DOWN by $240!! They cleaned everywhere they went and I was very happy to have a shower.
Description of Work: Upstairs gas water heater leaking through the floor. It was 22 years old. Baker Brothers (Brian and Craig) replaced it quickly, well and efficiently.

Excellent. The estimator showed up on time and went through an extensive explanation of the pros and cons of a tankless; he actually educated me on what I was doing and seemed to want to make sure that I was making the right decision for me. The team showed up when they said they would, they were fairly quiet, they asked questions when appropriate and pointed out things that I would otherwise never know about. Additionally, they didn't make everything they identified as potential shortfalls in my house sound like an emergency. It was more of an FYI process; very helpful. The installation went smoothly and my house was cleaner when they left then it was when they got there.

Very well. We had a leak - large amount of water came from behind the upstairs bathtub/shower through the ceiling into the 1st floor of the home. Baker brothers came out quickly, evaluated the situation, gave us advice and options, performed test to determine if pipes were intact, located problem, then cleaned up mess.

On the day of my scheduled service, the company called me on my cell phone to meet me at my house in 30 minutes, so I did not have to wait around the house all day for them. They were very punctual. Mike, who performed the service was very pleasant, knowledgeable, and efficient. The old unit had 7 issues: 1. Had a vent pipe detached that allowed carbon monoxide to escape into my garage and attic. 2. Was placed in such a way that any major leak would have flooded my house. 3. Had an old non-code gas connection. 4. The copper pipes leading from it were not insulated. 5. Took a long time for water to warm up when faucet was turned on. 6. Water never got very hot. 7. The pressure relief valve was continuosly venting water into my garden at about 3 gallons per hour. Mike replaced my heater and fixed all the above issues. Now, probably because of the new insulation, my hot water arrives much faster to my kitchen and bathrooms and the water is very hot even on a rather low setting. He replaced the seat, springs, and ball inside my kitchen faucet and it no longer drips. I would have preferred to pay less for the service - wouldn't we all? - but it seems that what they are charging is on par with other plumbers. I would use them again.

Mixed. They are very professional but their pricing model is not valid for a large job made up of several small procedures/repairs. They appear to have a fixed price schedule for repairing plumbing which would be fine if you have only a single repair, it would take the risk of a slow repair tech that is charging by the hour. But when you are having the guy repair more than 2-3 items (I had over 12) the per hour labor charge gets way out of way. I spent $1700 for about 3.5 hours of labor and no more than a $200-$300 in parts. The tech replaced a cut-off coming out of the wall behind a toilet and left the original rusted excursion cover. You would think that after $1700 they would have figured a new cover would be in order. Now the only way to replace it is to un-solder the cut-off. I asked the tech to look at 3 exterior faucets that were leaking and suggested to him that since the house had been vacant for 2 years odds are any O-rings were dried out. He told me they couldn't be repaired and had to be replaced. Well he left some of the old units in my lawn and they all had old cracked O-rings. I'm convinced he could have put in a one dollar o-ring rather than a couple hundred dollars to cut off and replace. The tech also told me the trim pieces to the shower we no longer made and the only way to get them was to special order them at $120.00 per shower. Well home improvement stores carry them for $27.00. Granted he was likely getting better quality, but he also wanted to charge a fixed fee of about $90.00 per shower (I have 5 showers in this house) to replace them. I did it my self with the home improvement store parts in 10 minutes. If I had let them come back to replace the "special order" parts they would have made about $300/hour on that job alone. They really need to consider a different rate structure when someone is doing a lot of little jobs. I agreed to their pricing based on their history as being honest, but didn't really figure out that it's not a fair structure until after they finished the first part. Overall, I over-paid by about $800 what a per hour plumber would have charged. I'm aware they are taking some risk by agreeing to repair for a fixed rate, but they really need to consider some type of max pricing when they don't have to go beyond a basic repair.

We had several estimates. Most of the companies had the same cost. This company was very cordial. Brian was very professional. He was respectful of my home and property. He kept me informed of the crew's progress. The job took a week's time because there was a holiday in between and they wanted the same crew to do all of the work. It was a change in lifestyle, but they dealt with us wonderfully.

They quoted $365 to fix the 1st toilet and $325 for the second. They quoted $210/faucet. To repair the faucet all that is required is replacing a cartridge. The work would have taken no more than 5 - 6 hours of labor and maybe $75 in parts and they wanted $1700? That is insane pricing! ($1,700.00)

AFTER REVIEWING HER FILE, WE CALLED THE MEMBER ON OCTOBER 30, 2008. WE EXPLAINED TO HER THAT AFTER EXAMINING HER FILE AND TALKING WITH THE TECH, WE DETERMINED THAT DUE TO THE FACT THAT THE TECH WAS NEW AND NOT COMPLETELY FAMILIAR WITH HOW TO USE THE PRICING BOOK, HE PROVIDED HER WITH THE WRONG BOOK PRICES. AFTER DETERMINING WHAT BOOK PRICES SHOULD HAVE BEEN APPLIED AND EXPLAINING THAT PROCESS TO THE TECH, WE WERE ABLE TO REDUCE THE COST BY SEVERAL HUNDRED DOLLARS; HOWEVER, EVEN THOUGH SHE APPRECIATED OUR CALLING HER TO EXPLAIN TO HER WHAT HAPPENED AND ADVISE HER ABOUT THE PRICE REDUCTION, SHE TOLD US SHE HAD ALREADY FOUND A HANDYMAN TO DO THE WORK. WE CERTAINLY REGRET WHEN ANY CUSTOMER HAS A NEGATIVE EXPERIENCE WITH OUR COMPANY AND WE MAKE EVERY EFFORT TO CORRECT THE MATTER.

I had considered doing the job myself but after watching them I realized they were worth every penny. The job took all day but they stayed with the original price. The tub looks great! They are a little pricey but they always do great work!
Description of Work: They removed a small bath tub the builder used three years ago and replaced with a larger garden size tub(they provided). The job took several hours as the new tub was of course rigid and hard to fit in the existing hole. They worked through it and got the job done. They also hauled off the old tub and cleaned up after themselves.

We were unhappy because they still want payment even though they didn't unclog the drain. They said we owed them the money because they tried. They had to come three different times because they didn't have the right equipment.

WHEN WE SCHEDULE AN AFTERNOON APPOINTMENT, WE CALL THE HOMEOWNER 30-45 MINUTES IN ADVANCE TO LET THE HOMEOWNER KNOW OUR TECH IS AVAILABLE. THIS ALLOWS THE HOMEOWNER TO BE AT WORK OR OUT OF THE HOUSE, IF NEEDED. ONE OF THE THREE VISITS TO HER HOME WAS IN THE EVENING AND THE OTHER TWO IN THE AFTERNOON. WE SPENT 15 HOURS ATTEMPTING TO UNSTOP THE DRAIN LINE IN QUESTION; ONE SERVICE CALL OUR TECH STAYED UNTIL MIDNIGHT. SHE EXPLAINED TO US THAT THIS HAD BEEN AN ONGOING PROBLEM AND THAT OTHER CONTRACTORS HAD NOT BEEN SUCCESSFUL IN RESOLVING IT. AFTER INSPECTING THE LINE IN QUESTION AND DETERMINING THE SOURCE OF THE PROBLEM, WE RECOMMENDED WHAT SHE NEEDED TO CORRECT THE DRAINAGE ISSUE. AFTER OUR RECOMMENDATION, WE TRIED TO CONTACT HER FIVE TIMES TO SEE IF SHE WANTED TO HAVE THE WORK DONE OR IF SHE HAD GOTTEN IT RESOLVED, HOWEVER, SHE DID NOT RETURN OUR CALLS. THE INVOICE WAS VOIDED AND SHE INCURRED NO CHARGES. WE REGRET THE HOMEOWNER IS DISSATISFIED DESPITE THE FACT BAKER BROTHERS PUT FORTH A GREAT DEAL OF TIME AND EFFORT AT NO COST TO HER TO RESOLVE THE PROBLEM AND PROVIDE HER WITH THE SOLUTION. CUSTOMER SATISFACTION IS AND ALWAYS WILL BE OUR NO. 1 PRIORITY.

The plumber called when on the way and arrived near the appointment time. Once on site the plumber put on feet protectors to keep from tracking dirt on the carpet. He found the problem in short order and unclogged the drain. He gave instructions on how to keep the drain free in the future. As with all the service I have received from Baker Brothers I was very satisfied with the quality of the work and the workman. I have used them previously to fix a leak under the slab foundation and to fix numerous leaks and stopped-up drains. The leak under the slab was the most costly and required two holes in the slab foundation to repair the issue. The quality of the repair was outstanding. They tried to repair the issue with only one hole in the slab and informed me when that was no longer possible. They provided me with the updated price estimate when this was required. This repair was almost $2000. I had faith that this extra cost was unavoidable and they went out of their way to explain why the second hole was necessary. Overall, I am very satisfied with Baker Brothers for large and small plumbing problems.
Description of Work: Baker Brothers found and repaired a leak in our master bedroom that had soaked the carpet. The cause was a air-conditioner condensation drain was blocked, backing up water and overflowing to travel 15 feet into the master bedroom.

In search for a leak, the plumber arrived and wanted to tear holes in walls that didn't contain any water pipes. I convinced him to start on an adjacent wall that actually had water pipes in it. He then told me it would be $199 to tear a hole in the wall. Then if he could determine the issue, he would then quote me on the cost to fix the leak, and that I would have to hire someone else to fix the walls. So I confirmed with the plumber that he was charging me $200 to tear a hole in the wall - he confirmed. I just paid him the $49 and fixed the problem myself... without any random holes in walls containing no plumbing.

It only took them 40 minutes. It was extremely expensive for the quality and expertise. One of the technicians, Carry, priced the job incorrectly and he left a bunch of trash under the bath tub even though I gave him a trash can to put it in. For the bath tub faucet I asked him to put in a spray to be able to rinse the tub with cold water and he said he could do that. I had the parts and he proceeded to weld. He started the soldering of the pipes and then said it wouldn't work. When he finished with the job he could not connect the faucet and then that's when he left the trash under the tub. He wrote a bill for 827. I called and complained about the bill. The owner called me back to apologize after he heard the story and said the job had been priced incorrectly and that it should cost about 400 dollars. Mr. Baker said Carry was new and he didn't realize that what you wanted would not work until he was finished. He said he could get a new part and put it in but that I would have to pay for the part. He was helpful in identifying a place for me to look for the part.
