I found them through Angie's List. They were good. They got the work done. They fixed and replaced everything. Everything was perfect. Plumbing prices are generally high, but theirs was comparable to that of everyone else.

I believe that Baker Brothers Plumbing does indeed care about their customers, and they do and will try to make any corrections of (human) error or issues that arise from misunderstandings. In the light of how this situation was handled, I would be happy to recommend Baker Brothers for all plumbing needs.
Description of Work: I want to follow up on my July 10, 2011 review of Baker Brothers. After posting the review Sunday evening, I received a call for Connie at Baker Brothers Monday apologizing for my negative experience and assuring me that they want to make it right. She did not know why the technician did not honor either one of the coupons. After she gathered some additional information she said she needed to talk with the company’s executives, and would get back with me in two days. Connie called as promised and told me they would be sending a refund check for 20% of the charge instead of just the 10% coupon discount. She understood that I was not asking for a 20% discount when I presented the two coupons, I was just seeing which one would work in that situation, but following up with good customer relations, she offered me the full 20%. She also said the situation will be addressed with the technician who refused to honor the Angie’s List discount coupon. She confirmed that I was satisfied with the resolution of the issue. A few days later I noticed the newly installed bathroom facet was leaking below the sink. I called Connie and told her about the leak. Since I called her on a Friday afternoon, she scheduled a technician to come out to repair the leak on the following Monday morning. I requested that the original technician not be the person sent to repair the leak, she assured me that would not be the case, and she scheduled the company’s inspector to come out and make the repairs, and to also inspect the entire installation. The technician came as scheduled, repaired the leak and explained why it was leaking and what he did to repair it. We both inspected the installation and repairs and he did not leave until I was satisfied with the work done.

Brandon tried to put a camera from the side of home down the pipe. The pipe was so full of mud he couldn’t put the camera in or anything else because the mud would damage the equipment. Brandon said it appeared that I was right since we didn’t know how else the mud could have gotten into the pipe. He wrote up exactly what would be needed. We discussed the options and it came to be about $1500.00. He would have to cut through a concrete slab and if the other pipe was broke he’d have to charge for the extra pipe. He said that he would like me to try one more thing to try before going through with the project. He had a liquid to try to fix the problem, he was up front saying it may not work, but it may clear the mud enough to solve my problem. I poured a cap of this blue liquid in each drain in the kitchen and laundry room. 1 cap in each drain for 5 nights and if it didn’t work we’d need the other help. The 3rd night it started to work. Brandon was so excited for me! I asked him to come back to see if the camera would work now since it cleared. He looked and he said he got the camera all the way through and he could not see the break. He said there was something near the laundry area that looked like a plastic cup. He had me use the blue liquid for another week to continue to clear and it works better than it ever has. I thought for sure it was a broken pipe, I am not sure where the mud came from, but they were just as excited as I was to know I didn’t have to pay the $1500.00. They are super. He said because of the way this turned out, if it stopped up again he would put on the paper to say rather than doing the expensive solution. He would use a water jet to force high water through the line to clean the pipes.
Description of Work: Brandon came out with a helper. Years ago I had plumbers out and it sounded like the broke a pipe by a slab. Periodically I was having slow drainage from the kitchen, however it was getting worse. I called Baker’s Brothers about the issue.

Did not use them because of trip fee. I bet they are good but I just don't know. I cannot really comment on their work because I would not pay the trip fee. I am just suggesting to be careful about trip fee's and to ask before hand like I did...as I have gotten caught before by another plumbing company for $25.00.
Description of Work: I needed 4 new bathroom faucets installed and 2 sets of new stand-up shower handles installed.....but just to get an estimate they wanted $60.00 for the trip fee IF I did not go with them. I said that is FAR too much for a trip fee and thanked them. I reminded them, I just wanted an estimate. I am just letting Angie's List members know to ask how much for a trip fee, BEFORE they come out to give you an estimate.

Response from Baker Brothers Plumbing, Air & Electric
While we do have a nominal trip fee of $39, that is waived if we do the work while we are there. Our call center representatives inform the customers of this when they call in for service. When you provide free estimates, there oftentimes is an incentive to absorb the expense incurred for the calls you did not capture by adding that expense to business you do. Baker Brothers Plumbing does not do that. We work strictly one on one with each customer and the cost of their job is the cost of their job only. While we do appreciate the Member's concern, our trip fee charge is a fair and reasonable way to handle some of the expense of sending our highly qualified plumbing technicians to a home where the homeowner opts to not have the work done. We welcome the opportunity to explain concerns such as the one this Member expressed. Baker Brothers Plumbing will continue to focus on our company mission of customer satisfaction.

The plumber was late, but he called to say he would be late - he was 15 minutes late. He seemed pleasant and worked for maybe 45 minutes and fixed the leak (I hope). He said he had to replace an "angle stop" in the back beneath the toilet and this small part cost $ 150.45 - I questioned the need for it and he said if he didn't replace it, he would be back in a week to fix a leak, presumably one his "fix" would cause. The labor for his 45 minutes was $ 240.05. Then he took off $ 50.00 for the Angie's List coupon - at least this is how he wrote it up. When he quoted me the original $340.50 I thought it was before the Angie's List coupon and accepted - $280.50, while excessive, was better than $340.50. I questioned him when he said he had already taken it off and he said they try to treat all their customers like Angie's List customers - not sure what that meant. Then he admitted they are one of most expensive plumbers around. He certainly gets an "A" for candor. I will not use them again - I was left with the feeling of being cheated - I am a licensed professional with an extensive education in my field and I don't charge what these bandits charge for an hourly rate. UPDATE: Baker Brothers read the evaluation above and called. They offered to refund the cost of the "angle stop" and take $50 off for the Angie's List coupon. I accepted the offer. I received a credit for $200.45 on my credit card on 7/25/11.

Work went great - loved our plumber who came onsite (Chuck). He investigated and repaired the slow drain in the upstairs bath - just need to be unclogged. The leaky faucet was simply replaced with a new one he had the home office deliver out (delivery was within one hour). It was cheaper to fix the existing faucet but the existing unit was ugly - glad to see it go. The main water cut-off is located outside and in the ground. It was in ok condition but Chuck recommend a replacement as it was hard to turn the old valve. Cap the gas line in the laundry room was and is fairly straightforward The toilet in the half bath downstairs needed to go and so it was replaced. Overall, the work was excellent. Chuck clearly knew what he was doing and worked hard and I found him polite as well. I would recommend them to anyone. CONS A bit high on price but not overly so.

I was left with a feeling that I had been taken advantage of. I am sure that what I was sold is a quality product, and the installation was done successfully, but I do not have the feeling I can trust the Baker Brothers Residential & Commercial Plumbing company or their “technicians” again. The fact that the coupon was refused to be honored make me wonder if the quote would have been 10% higher had I presented the coupon before I was given a quote. And I will certainly not recommend them to any of my friends or family or anyone else I care about. The invoice for the repairs is under the name Robert Myers.
Description of Work: The Plumber (he was referred to as a Technician by the home office) decided to sell me a new faucet set for my master bathroom sink, telling me it was unwise to repair the existing one because “it wouldn’t last very long”. That was accepted by me, so the “technician” proceeded to remove the existing fixtures from the sink before confirming that the fixtures I had selected from his book were in stock. They were not in stock and they had to be delivered the next day. We were left with no running water in the master bathroom sink over night because of this “over sight”. The “technician” and the home office both exhibited poor customer service at the time payment was being made, when I presented TWO coupons each for a 10% savings on the bill. With the first coupon the “technician” said he was not familiar with the Angie’s list coupon and would have to check. So he went to his trunk to call. The coupon printed from Angie’s List website stated “Coupon must be presented at time of service.” To me, that means sometime before paying the bill. The technician informed me that the service was started the day before – when he removed the sink fixtures prematurely and the coupon could not be used. The second coupon from Angie’s List July 2011 booklet received in the mail states “Present this coupon to technician.” I was told that it really was not for the type of service that was performed, it was for something else, such as a drain cleaning. The coupon does not state that the 10% discount is restricted to a particular type of service. If good customer service was offered, they should have accepted the 10% off coupon merely for the fact that we were without running water in the master bath sink overnight and the next day. The “technician” was not honest with me about the charges incurred for the installation of new fixtures. Toward the end of the installation, he asked me if I still had the “old” fixtures he removed, and luckily I still had them. He used the water lines from the old set of fixtures on the new ones. When I asked if he could use new ones, he then told me, yes he could, but he would charge me extra for that because it was not included in the installation of the new fixtures. Before any work was begun, I was quoted a price of $479.83 and I asked if that was the total cost for the fixtures and installation, I was told yes it was. Obviously, it was not.

Baker Brothers installed a Rheem Hot Water Heater a little over a year ago. The other morning, I attempted to take a hot shower only to find out I had no hot water. I contacted Baker Brothers and asked if they could make it out today. They said they were full but would schedule me for the next day in the afternoon. I accepted that. Before the woman on the other end hung up the phone, she said if something came open today, she would call me. Well about 10 minutes later, she called back and said there was a technician available and that he could be there in 30 mintues. Great! The tech arrived, replaced the burner, and had no luck fixing the problem. He then told me he would replace the entire unit free of charge because it was covered under a 12 year warranty. I realize that companies are expected to honor warranties, but I've never had one go so smoothly. I was impressed by their prompt response to my house, and replacing the whole unit with no hassles. I've used Baker Brothers in the past on several occasions. While they may not be the cheapest in town, their customer service is commendable and I will be using them again.

Always good. They guarantee their work and twice have honored this for us: came back and fixed something for free. They also look for potential problems and offer to fix them. We always know how much a job will cost before they start. We feel good about their work. Someone always answers the phone. Very professional. Out of all the plumbers who've come out, only one was not very good. Their prices may be a bit higher than others', and more than handymen, but you can always trust that their work will be good, and if not, they'll fix it til it is. We've learned the hard way not to go with the cheapest! Bakers Brothers will be the only plumbers we use from now on.
Description of Work: We've used them over the past year several times. This last time was to repair a leak under the sink. Previously it was to repair a faucet that was hard to turn on and off. Another time to replace sink fixtures. Another time to replace water heaters. Another time to repair an outdoor leak.

I was pleased with the work that they did. The leaks were stopped. He also showed me how to shut off the main water supply, if need be, at the meter.
Description of Work: Prior to Baker Brother's coming out we had received a notice from the city that our water bill had gone up beyond what would be expected given our past usage and the season, and due to movement of a leak detection needle on our water meter. The plumber isolated the three toilets which were leaking slightly, gave an estimate for complete replacement of the toilets and for replacement of the parts which were causing the leak, procured the parts and made the repairs.

Overall, the service was excellent and above and beyond my expectations. Although I only called for a leak under the house, I actually spent approximately $1,800 and it was worth every penny. The job required extensive pipe replacement and a new hot water heater. If you are a woman and don?t want to feel ripped off or belittled, I highly recommend Baker Brothers Residential and Commercial Plumbing. The two gentlemen that came to my home were professional, knowledgeable and informative. They were there to work and they did just that. All the while answering all of my questions without hesitation. I know every company has its good and bad people and good and bad experiences; however, if my two technicians, Joe and Ace are any representation of how Baker Brothers conducts business; I will be a customer for life. Thank you to them and to Angies List. If you want the actual details of events read on. Before I begin, for those of you who may be amateurs to the ?fix-it world? like myself, free estimate does not mean FREE. I thought it meant that the company would come to my home, survey the problem and tell me how much it would cost to repair the problem. Apparently I was wrong. To Ernie?s Plumbing it means a plumber will drive to my home stand in my living room and tell me it will cost me $175 an hour for as long as it takes for them to find the leak to locate the leak without moving away from the entry way of my door. Why couldn?t I be told this on the phone instead of in my living room? I don?t know. When I ask that question to their manager on the phone while the plumber was still standing in my doorway, I was told that they don?t work for free. So I sent them away. Then I called Baker Brothers. I gave them the same information and ask them the same questions. I was told it would cost me $35 for an estimate of an estimate of how much it would cost to locate the leak. So I agreed. At approximately 8:45 am, two plumbers from Baker Brother?s showed up at my door. They repeated what I was told on the phone and once I agreed, they proceeded to take a look at the area where I felt the leak was most likely to be underneath the house. The two men quickly geared up and took a look underneath my home. They came back with an estimate of $106.21 to actually locate the leak or leaks regardless of how long it took them. So I agreed. Within no time at all, the leak was located and the two gentlemen returned with a quote for repairing the leak. Since there was some old outdated pipes in some areas that would need to be replaced, the estimate was around $790. Since I was already aware of the old pipe issue I knew they were on the ?up & up? so I agreed. Since the water would have to be turned off, Joe and Ace (the two plumbers) ask to see the hot water heater. Thank God they did, because it was on the verge of explosion from corrosion! I quick ask for a quote on replacement and was given a quote of approximately $1,000. So I agreed. Since the plumbers did not arrive with a hot water heater, they had to return to their shop and pick one up and then come back and complete the job. Even with all of that, both jobs were complete by 1:54 pm that afternoon. And they remembered to apply their member coupon. Awesome!

The person who took my call was very efficient and friendly, and she scheduled someone to come out the next day. I really appreciated the fact that the appointment was in a one-hour window and they called me when they were on their way so I was able to stay at work until then. The estimate was straightforward and the plumber did the work right then. However, when the brick mason came to repair the brick, we discovered that the faucet was recessed too far into the brick, so I called Baker Brothers again. They sent someone out the next day, again with an advance call so I didn't have to wait around at home, and he put an extension on it to fix the problem. I give Baker Brothers high marks for responsiveness and efficiency. Based on other estimates that I got for the job, I think they are priced a little high. It was a shame that it took two tries, but they owned the mistake and made it right.
Description of Work: A frostproof hose bibb faucet on the back of the house was broken and had leaked water into the master bedroom and closet. A few bricks had to be removed to replace the hose bibb.

Chuck arrived right on time and explained the situation. He provided a quote for the initial work, which required cutting a hole in the sheetrock of an adjacent closet (but not the ceiling downstairs). Once he had had gotten into the wall and opened up the drainpipe, he gave me and estimate of the time needed to resolve the issue. It was a tricky job and required a good bit of patience and carpentry, but Chuck finally got the pieces of cable out of my plumbing. In so doing, he saved my ceiling and earned Baker Brothers a new customer. The price I have submitted may SEEM expensive, but for the work that was done and the time spent (approx. 4 hrs) I think Baker Brothers is more than fair. Plumbing is generally an expensive undertaking, but at each step of the way, Chuck gave me an updated quote to keep me in the loop. This was greatly appreciated.
Description of Work: Another plumbing company has attempted to snake a bathtub drain on the second floor of my house. The cable broke and I was told that my only options were to cut a hole in the antique wood plank ceiling in my kitchen or to cut and leave the cable in the plumbing. I chose the latter, certain I did not want these people to do any more work in my home.

Response from Baker Brothers Plumbing, Air & Electric
We're glad the Member decided to still have a licensed plumber inspect their water heater and venting and get his experienced observation. In general, a water heater has a lifespan of 7-10 years. The Member's water heater is already 10 years old, and since repairs are not inexpensive, an ethical plumber will not encourage a customer to spend a lot of money on repairing one that age, where things continue to break down, and ultimately they end up needing a new water heater. Our plumber recycled the thermostat at no charge and explained that if the heater ended up needing a gas valve upgrade to stay lit, it would be several hundred dollars. If the Member replaces the water heater, we will automatically include replacing the bad vent pipe at no additional charge. We respect the Member's decision not to replace their water heater or venting at this time. However, the plumber acted professionally and did his job by providing them with options and pricing now, so they can make an informed decision in the future.

As with any large service business, it's only as good as its people (and their judgment) and leadership. There are so many variables in execution of a robust service model, these variables cannot all line up perfectly for each service call and there are bound to be periodic hiccups. It's how effectively a company's leadership deals with such hiccups that truely defines the service level of a company. Hands down - Baker Brothers has this leadership and quality of service level. On a routine service call to replace cartridges for leaking showers, the technician was asked to check out the water heaters. The technician was prompt on time - about 1 pm. Since the water heaters were 16-years old, I knew that they likely needed to be replaced. I was interested in (a) ensuring that they were not badly leaking and (b) getting a reasonable quote. The technician checked the water heaters and said that one had a very slow leak and they needed to be replaced. Really no surprise and no alarm. I asked for him to provide a quote. I had to leave the house and my nanny stayed with the technician. My nanny called me later with a quote to replace the cartridges and a quote to replace the water heaters. I authorized the cartridge replacements (~$500) but held off on the water heater replacements. I wanted to explore options (such as tankless) and ensure that the water heater quote was competitive, which would take me a couple of days to do. The technician then proceeded to shut down the water to the house and replace the cartridges in the leaking showers. He turned the water back on and went on his way. The nanny also left the house. When I returned home that evening about 9 pm, the water heater had a massive leak. The leak flow was too large because the overflow basin could not contain the water and route it to outside drainage. The water was leaking through the ceiling and on the walls and carpet. I immediately turned off the water and called the president, Jimmie Dale. Jimmie called me back about 10:30 pm and also personnally came to my house the next day with his service manager. What we surmised is that the turning off and back on of the water to replace the cartridges likely drove the water heater to break into a heavy leak . Perhaps an experienced service technician should have anticipated this likelihood, but it was missed nonetheless. Without hesitation, Jimmie offered to paint the ceiling (which was done later) and after some discussion with Jimmie and his service manager, I decided to replace the water heaters with a tankless system. As for the carpet, there was a bit of luck - it did not need to be addressed because it was to be pulled up and replaced with hardwood flooring that same week. In the middle of difficulty is when a company's service model is challenged and that's where real execution matters. The buck stops with the company's leadership. Baker Brothers followed through on their service model and demonstrated the company's service level and committment to its customer. And the technician also benefited from a lessons learned perspective that will likely prevent a similar occurence will other customers in the future. - the service delivery improved from this experience.

POSITIVE Replaced the upstairs tub/shower hardware for free The 2nd popup assembly was discounted $20.59 They call 45 min in advance to let you know they're coming, so you're not stuck at the house waiting. Charged by the job rather than by the hour. Cutoff valve to the toilet they installed was superior to the one I had. Willing to drive a distance for brass parts First plumber called for another to help when he realized how long it would take Plumber at front hydrant realized by turning the hydrant that there was a problem in the wall. He removed some bricks and found a bad weld that would have separated and caused major problems. Extremely pleased with new hydrants and all work done Loved the Angie's List coupon Seemed very knowledgeable, wore uniforms, kept me informed No problem accepting coupon NEGATIVE I called & left a message over the weekend but they never called back. I called them again on Tuesday and they came over almost immediately. Gave my needs in detail to lady on phone so plumber would have all he needed when he came out. But all he knew when he got here was just a general reference to a malfunctioning toilet. Tech said the tankless water heater service service would have to be done by a specialized group in the company. He said he'd call & set it up. He never did. The lady on the phone should have set up the second group to come out. So I had to schedule it the next day Got carpet dirty from dirty shoes in bathroom and didn't offer to vacuum it up. I would have refused, but thought they'd offer Felt price was a bit high, but discounts made it more comfortable. Ex: Charged $136.69 to replace toilet fill valve. But, Angie's List coupon saved $50.00. He installed bathtub hardware for free. They reduced price of 2nd popup from $157.86 to $137.27. I lowered the score on professionalism due to communications with their office, not scheduling tankless service by office or plumber, and dirty carpet. (Easily came up with vacuum.)
Description of Work: I called Baker Brothers and discussed these things to be sure plumber would have what he needed: Replace fill valve in toilet tank Replace toilet cutoff valve at wall Replace 3 freeze-proof hydrants Replace 2 corroded popup drain assemblies in bathroom sinks Replace upstairs tub/shower hardware (I already had the hardware.) Maintenance/flush on tankless water heater plus kit/instructions they have for me to do it myself another time.
