He kept throwing out prices and upgrades. "I can do this, but if I find X then it will cost you $300 but if you go ahead and authorize this service now then it will only be $250" "If you authorize that and I find Z then it will cost you $450 but if you go ahead and authorize this service now then it will only be $400. He tried to sell me a new line (approx 6k), a pressure wash out of the line, etc. He did this constantly and I was exhausted when he left. It was equivalent to dealing with a USED CAR SALESMAN! I only allowed him to do what I originally asked and it corrected the problem. I won't contract with them again.
Description of Work: He ran the snake down the line toward the street and cleared the blockage. He ran a camera and said I had standing water so I had a belly in the line.

Response from Baker Brothers Plumbing, Air & Electric
We contacted the homeowner and he stated the tech advised him beforehand of the prices. He agreed to have the work done, but when he wasn't happy, he did not realize he could contact us about his concern. We explained to him that is the value in using Baker Brothers Plumbing - our customers are our number one priority. Although his membership has expired and he cannot amend his response, the homeowner assured us we have settled this matter to his complete satisfaction.

An upstairs toilet float valve broke (plastic part on lever arm), flooding the bathroom and two other rooms, and soaking through the floor to the ceiling below, ruining the ceiling. We called Baker Bros to replace all 4 float valves and the connecting hoses and shutoff valves. The plumber did a satisfactory job, but the cost seemed relatively expensive, and the floats in two of the toilets are sticking (I question whether the quality of these new valves is adequate).
Description of Work: Replaced float valve in 4 toilets (one had broken, soaking carpets, floors, ceilings, light fixtures). Replaced flex pipe inlet to toilet., and shutoff valve. The originals were 'contractor quality' - ie, junk.

Assumed anyone who makes cheesy commercials is no good, so was surprised to find this company so highly rated on Angie's List. Plumber was surpisingly nice, gave me several options to fix the problem and thoroughly explained the situation and possible solutions. It turns out once he got into it, there was really only one option without spending a lot more money, but once again, he walked me through his reasoning and left the final decision to me. Easy to talk to and very personable guy, again very surprising.

Baker Brother's should have explained the process better when I was booking the appointment. My expectation was that a 9:00 appointment should result in completed work. They were a major waste of precious PTO time from my employer. Additionally, I should not have to pay one group and then turn around and pay another group to fix the problem. Fortunately, I was able to locate an alternative plumbing company that are looking for the leak now and will proceed to repair as soon as located.
Description of Work: Devoted entire day to allow for plumbing work. When I booked the appointment, I indicated that it was likely that I potentially had a leak in the slab foundation of my house. I asked if the plumbers would have the equipment they needed with them to make this type of repair. The response was, yes. When the plumbers arrived. they confirmed that I have a slab leak and indicated that it would cost $291 to find the leak. From their a separate crew would have to come back and fix the leak. Since no one was available on Friday, they could come on Saturday, but I would need to take an additional day off to meet the city's inspector and leave a hole in my floor until such time.

We agree that we need to be sure our customers have a clear understanding of everything before starting any work so they can make their plans accordingly. We appreciate this feedback and will be sure to address this with our call center representatives. The City of Flower Mound requires an inspection of the repair and that means the hole needs to be left open until a business day when their inspector is available. We are still trying to reach the Member.

Brian telephoned before arriving and arrived very soon after, to clear our plugged drain line. He surveyed the situation and wrote up an estimate. After I authorized the repair, he ran his "rooter" through my sewer line and cleared the obstruction. Then he ran his video camera down the sewer line, and discovered that the city's sewer tap had shifted and was no longer aligned with my house sewer line. He recommended I telephone the city's water department to request they come inspect and repair the situation. Brian was very patient and made sure that I understood the problem and would be able to explain it to the city water department.
Description of Work: We had a lavatory and a bathtub with standing water and a toilet that would not flush. Brian cleaned out our sewer line to remove the clog and examined the trouble spot with a video camera.

The work seems to be done very well. The workers that were here were clean with their work and professional. They came when they said they were going to. I do have a problem with their scheduling since the workers were here for awhile and my work started on 02/18/11 and wasn't complete until 03/03/11. This was way to long to make me wait for my tork to be completed. They pushed the workers to other jobs while I was sitting with floors torn up with open sewer lines, etc. I think they should have allowed the work to be completed here first. I only had leaks in 2 places so it's not like we had a leak every day. The company didn't offer any discount for this inconvience either. I felt they took advantage of me in this respect because who is going to stop in the middle of the process? THey are very expensive but I had to get the work done correctly because I am noticing foundation issues and they were recommended. Please understand that the workers that were here were great, but the process was too long. I think the pricing is inflated because they think insurance is going to take care of it, but my Farmer's Insurance didn't pay a penny. I will say to watch your landscaping because I have to have some dirt that will have to be graded away from my foundation correctly and had some bushes injured that died from the excavation to put in the proper items to do the isolation testing, even though my bushes shouldn't have been affected My real complaints were the the way I was done with missuse of my time and the pricing. You won't be able to have this sort of thing done and have a full time job. Even after submitting this report, I thought someone would at least tell us they were sorry for all the delays etc. but I haven't even had an acknowledgement that this happened. I feel like for the almost 8000.00 that's eight thousand dollars we spent we should have at least been a priority to finish our job before going to another. That's why I have rated responsiveness a lousy. Again, get other estimates.

COMPLETELY satisfied! Have used them over and over again. From small projects (toilet continually runs) to re-installing new hot water heater, to gas leak, to water leak (anywhere), to removel and re-install of all 3 bathroom hardware (sink, tub/shower and toilet). Generally I've tried to use the same techs however, they have different specialties. Have never been disappointed and have recommended them to several neighbors and friends. NO ONE has ever had a bad experience!
Description of Work: Started with a leak in the gas line....progressed to new hot water heater. LOL This has been an on going "house project" that started with "we'll just get a new washer & dryer". Turned into an "uh oh...gas leak". Then a "hot water heater leak", well..."might as well replace all the plumbing hardware" for an updated look to the house. Nightmare problem but because Baker Brothers was such a professional, fairly priced (and I did get other quotes!!!) organization to work with...it was not as daunting as it could've been.

Decided to go with another contractor.
Description of Work: This company was contacted based on Angie's list reviews. We wanted to receive a price estimate to get new gas water heaters installed. First of all we had to pay a service charge of $ 39.00 for a price estimate which is understandable and if you decide to go with this company this charge will be waived. On that morning the technician/sales rep. arrived on time and he was dressed in a professional manner he also wore a protection around his shoes so our carpets and floors would not get dirty. He viewed our water heaters and sort of described which work was involved and needed to be performed. When I mention sort of I mean he was not able to provide us with the information on how and what codes needed to be performed for our city area. When it came down to giving us a price estimate he did not know if his company had a yearly maintance plan or should I say provide a service agreement, and he was even unsure on how much it would cost for if his company to come out and do a basic maintance. (flushing/draining of water heaters). He also did not know if we would need a drain pan to place under our water heaters. (for code based on which area you live in) I made him though include a drain pan on his invoice , he viewed the price in his manual book which would be $ 124.28 per water heater. On his invoice he did include how much each foot would cost of pipe but did not include how much would be used. He also forgot to include that a permit + inspection should/needs to be done which would include an additional $ 100.00 also he forgot to include taxes. We also wanted to have an estimate for a tankless water heater which ended up also not going so well at least he could tell us how nuch the unit would cost. But forget about finding out how much all the additions would cost with this unit. He estimated around $ 600,-$1,200 for an additional gas upgrade alone. I did call the company and tell them we would not contract them to do the work and I was already worried and unsure with going with them just alone based on there unsure estimate. So the $ 39,- was gone which a honest company would have reimbursed but I am very happy with the contractor I did select. I do not give the technician the fault because I found out he was new (which was noticeable) from the company and from himself. The technician was very polite and with more time given to learn about sales (prices) he might have done well. I do think a company should want to keep up their image and represent themselfs in the best way possible. They should invest in their techicians/sales rep. to expand their knowledge and invest time for them to feel more comfortable out in the field.

We contacted the Member and apologized for the experience they had. Although the licensed plumber who came to their home was qualified to perform the work, he is fairly new to our company and still becoming familiar with estimating and pricing. In addition to supervisory assistance, we do have an extensive training program our plumbers attend weekly. We do have policies in place and there was an oversight when the Member called our office, which we did address with the Member when we contacted them. We believe the Member recognizes we are honest and we appreciate they indicated they would at least consider using Baker Brothers in the future. We would consider that a privilege.

The arrived as promised and the first attempt did not correct the problem. They came back with a hydro blaster, and that partially cleared the clogged line. Once a camera was used, they identified a tree root as the culprit, and informed me they would need a backhoe to dig the line up. That was accomplished the next day. They spent a lot of time correcting this problem and did it to my satisfaction. It wasn't cheap, but it was effective. The initial estimate did not include all services they provided, but they honored the original estimate. I would use them again.

Called on Saturday due to a serious leak in my kitchen faucet. It had weird fittings and I did not feel comfortable trying to handle the job my self since it seemed to be leaking above the first fitting that I could see. Brandon came out and determined that the faucet needed to be replaced as I suspected. He helped me pick out a replacement and even offered to let me wait until my wife was available to help pick the replacement. Scheduled the replacement for Monday since it was not an emergency and the parts needed to be acquired. Since no work was performed they dropped the price for coming out from $100 to $40. I would have liked to see this fee waived or taken off the faucet installation since I did schedule the work for another day. However, I agreed to the $100 minimum service fee to come out so I will not complain too much. Especially since the first two plumbers I called did not even return my call until a few hours after Baker Brothers had come and gone. I received a call 1/2 hour before my appointment time on Monday letting me know that he was on the way and he arrived 5 minutes ahead of schedule. The faucet replacement went smoothly and Brandon pleasantly responded to all of my questions and explained how the weird fittings worked in case I had to tackle some in another room of my house. The charge for the new faucet and labor was $390 but I was able to use my $50 angies list coupon on the service since my printer was not working on Saturday for the first visit. I took 1 star off the rating for price knowing that there is no such thing as a good cheap plumber. Overall, I had a great experience and I will definitely use Baker Brothers for my future plumbing needs.

Since the problem had already been diagnosed, the guy got right to work. He arrived around 3pm, and found that there were some shut-off valves that had just been buried under the dirt. He suggested that once he fixed the leak, we put a box around it so that we could access the valves. I agreed and he got to work. It was over 100 degrees out, and he was up to his elbows in mud working on these pipes. He worked until 10pm and could not get it done to his satisfaction. In the end, he came back first thing in the morning and pulled the whole thing out and re-installed it to get it right. He was out there for 7 hours in the heat, and eventually the dark because he didn't want to leave the job undone. He was very apologetic, but I really didn't think that was necessary. He fixed it in the end, and we did not get charged for the extra time. I would definitely call Baker Bros. in the future, and would definitely recommend them...

Hired them to perform an inspection of all the plumbing prior to the purchase of my house due to an general home inspection that indicated some evidence of water leaks present. Initially, the tech only inspected inside the home for faucet, toilet leaks etc. Called the dispatcher just after tech left and had him come back to finish and they advises additional charge to crawl under house to inspect. They issued a report that all was good with the exception of a small vent pipe. After home was purchased, foundation crew doing work on piers came up with a picture of plumbing leak under the house with a can underneath it to collect the water. Ground had been saturated for extended period of time under two bathroom areas. They sent out another team and fixed the leak and had the nerve to charge (albeit a reduced rate) for the repair. The cost to not finding the leak was in excess of $40,000. The wood beams underneath the house had dry rotted as a result of the constant moisture. Had he done his job and just gone underneath that portion of the house and reported what he saw, I would not have purchased the home. The extra foundation work was $25,000 and I had to gut two bathrooms to ensure the leaks were all found (there were at least two inside the walls)...about $10,000 per bathroom. Additionally, called out another plumber to inspect and they located three major leaks in the rest of the house.

Leak up by the house, performed test to detect where and repaired it but said that the pipe running from where they replaced it to the water meter would not be warranted and it would cost $2200.00 more to fix that. After he was done, he stated nothing was leaking and left. A few hours later the main water meter started leaking and running down the road. I called them back, they could not get back until 2 days later and then they said they would have to run the test again, and that the pipe from the house to the water meter would need to be replaced. I had the city come out and it was leaking 1/2 gallon per minute. So being put off for 2 days, my water bill will be through the roof. Strange how that just fits into the sale pitch they stated when they first came out, and why would I have to pay for the test again when I had already had it done the first time. This is a house where an elderly person lives and now there has been no water there for going on 5 days now. The QA guy who came out did nothing but took a few pictures and was talking on the phone the whole time to someone else. He said a tech would be out in a few hours, but it took him 4 hours to get there. I can understand if the leak had occurred a day or so after, but not a few hours later and then they wouldn't even give you a break on the price for the test.

We did a leak search and repair on a quest pipe water line. Because quest pipe is unstable, we explained to the Member we could not provide a warranty, and our technician provided them with a bid to replace the yard service, which they declined. The Member called later to say another leak had sprung up and two days later scheduled an appointment. Because we never charged them to test the line on the initial call, the locater explained there would be a charge, but they did not want to pay for this service. While he was there, however, our technician was able to confirm the second leak was not on our repair. When we called the Member later, they explained they had another plumber out there who had repaired the second leak, but another leak sprung up next to it and they were told they needed a new yard service, which they agreed to have installed by this other contractor. We were glad they did get the problem permanently resolved, which was the initial suggestion made by our technician. We did apologize to the Member, however, in the event that our technicians did not explain to their satisfaction why a new yard service was necessary.

Very professional service person presented an estimate and showed the catalogue of fixtures available through the company. They did not have the style I wanted in the finish I wanted, so I purchased the fixtures at Lowe's and Baker Brothers did the installation, quite a complicated job because the previous installation was non-standard, and I was changing from separate hot/cold to a single, lever type water control. A second service person came to re-do the tile around the new installation, which involved breaking out the green-board backing, removing three large tiles and re-placing/refitting the backing board and new tile installation. The jobs were difficult and my money well spent.

They were able to get a plumber out within a few hours and the valve was replaced within an hour. The gentleman was professional and friendly. However, he replaced a L shaped valve with an I shaped one which potentially required the fridge to stick out from the wall an extra couple of inches. Fortunately, because of the size of our fridge it had to stick out that far anyway.

I had the main water main from the city meter to my house spring a leak over the weekend. It was pinhole leak in the line, but enough that it was causing an issue that I wanted addressed on Sunday as I had to turn the water off to the house. (I first tried to tackle the problem myself but decided to call a professional when I discovered it was the main water line - after digging a 4 foot by 3 foot by 3 foot deep trench in 100+ degree weather! I researched plumbers on Angie's List and found Baker Brothers had good ratings. I called them to see if there was an emergency crew that could come out on Sunday. They said that there was a $200 premium on all work done on Sunday. I said it was understandable. The plumbers arrived a few hours later and I showed them the line I had dug up and where the puncture was in that line. They came in and consulted their standard Baker Brothers price list to quote me a price to repair the leak. The plumber then quoted me $1,000 to repair the line. More than 1/2 of the quote was to dig up more of the area I had already excavated. (I will give them that more digging was needed, but $530 worth? And that was NOT inclusive of the $200 emergency call fee.) I said that was an unacceptable price to dig a hole and asked him to illustrate to me why it cost so much to dig a hole. He gave me some song and dance about how their quotes are itemized and that their work is guaranteed for a year, etc. But he could never address why digging a hole was more than $500. I told him thank you, but I decline. He then said, "OK, that will be $200." The person I spoke with on the phone didn't say it was $200 just to show up, they stated it was a $200 premium to do work on a Sunday, which was acceptable. But I never would have agreed to pay $200 for them to just show up without having an idea of the prices they would charge. I refused to pay the fee (although they then said, "well how about the standard $40 fee for a weekday visit?" - Again, I refused as they simply looked in a hole and had not even done anything.) Long story short, I had another contractor show up and he replaced the entire line from the street to the house cut-off value - including replacing the house cut-off valve. And to dig up the entire yard, replace the entire water main line and install a new cut-off valve was just $20 more than what Baker Brothers wanted to just expand a hole I already dug.
Description of Work: Service was refused due to unrealistic prices. They wanted $530 to expand a hole I already dug. Then they wanted an additional $300 to repair a pipe. (And a $200 premium for doing work on a Sunday.)

Response from Baker Brothers Plumbing, Air & Electric
We attempted to reach the Member to discuss this matter but did not hear back from him. We sent two technicians to his home on a Sunday, but as he already stated, he did not want us to do the repair after the plumber provided him with a proposal. We apologize if there was a miscommunication regarding the $200 after hours fee in addition to the cost of the repair. Our call representatives try to make this clear to the homeowner when scheduling the appointment. We are glad the Member was able to get his problem addressed to his satisfaction. We feel confident he would have been happy with the quality of our work, warranty, and value of dealing with our company.

We found them on Angie's List. They had done a really good job and their price was fair, and so we called them back recently. I heard some water running the day before we went on vacation. We have a pier and beam foundation and I pulled up the wood trapdoor and saw the leak from a pipe very near the trapdoor. My husband called and had them come out. The guy was nice but he didn't replace the pipe and was here for just about an hour. I had showed him where the leak was and it was not much of a big deal. He just put a clamp over the brass pipe. I was horrified because they ended up charging us $500. We were very upset about that. I think that they have a fee just for coming out. My husband was really shocked when he gave him the bill, but he did pay for it. My husband did a follow-up with the people and has asked to meet with the manager. The issue is not resolved yet, but we won't have them back ever again.
Description of Work: Baker Brothers Plumbing fixed a leaking water pipe in the basement. They had earlier fixed a water leak in a faucet in the kitchen.
