The Baker Brothers plumber was on time, courteous and conscientious of keeping the interior of our house clean. He found our leak and explained the repair thoroughly. He produced a quote for the total and made sure to explain the variables that could cause the cost to go above. When we scheduled the repair, he was again prompt. The repair was very professional. I would highly recommend Baker Brothers for any plumbing service.

Chris the technician did a good job of dealing with our home warranty company to get the repair approved. He then worked until around 10 p.m. to get the new water heater installed. He removed the old water heater and cleaned up the area. My wife called Baker Brothers back on March 5 because there was no hot water coming out of the shower and she thought it was the water heater malfunctioning. It turns out that it wasn't the heater. The previous owner had the valve the wrong way in the shower so the technician reversed it free of charge. The cost to replace the heater and components is probably standard with most companies but the home warranty helped cover most of it.

They came out the same day I called, arrived when they said, and within three hours had replaced the entire unit with a brand new one, including adding some new features to bring the installation to current code, which had been changed since the last installation. They also scheduled the City inspection that was needed. I have nothing bad to say about these people. They did what they said they would do, when they said they would do it and for the price they said it would cost. No hidden charges.

The woman who booked my appointment was nice, but a little snippy. The service tech Nick was very nice and explained everything well. The work done was good and I'm happy there's a 90 day warranty and I was able to receive a $20 discount using an Angie's list 10% coupon.
Description of Work: We closed on a new home that had the water shut off and a leak at the meter. Nick from Baker Bros. came toward the beginning of the time window and gave me two options for possible repairs. Luckily, the first less expensive option worked and he made the repair quickly.

I discovered wet carpeting in the middle of a room with no obvious source of where the water was coming from. I found Baker Brothers on Angie's List which also offered a discount coupon. I contacted them @8:30am and confirmed they would be able to fix the leak if it turned out to be a leak in the slab. They said someone would be out the same afternoon and it would cost $39 trip charge, but it would be credited back if the work was performed by them. They recommended turning the water off to the house to prevent more damage and I did so. They called before coming and showed up around 1:30pm. After inspecting the water damage, it was going to cost $291 to do a leak detection if the source was found within 2 hours. They thoroughly searched the house and other water sources in the bathrooms and hot water tanks and found a leak that was hidden in a wall. They were able to repair the pipe. The work was completed by 4:00 pm. The total cost was $439.11, and included the online discount coupon. I have had work done like this before, but in case someone hasn't, the plumbing repairs don't include repairing sheetrock/carpeting removed to complete the plumbing repairs, so this was expected. I was very satisfied with the time and cost to get the problem resolved. The person who came out was professional and able to fix the problem.

Baker answered my call promptly on a Sunday afternoon and said she had two techs currently out in the field. She said that they could get someone out later that day and would have a technician call me. She let me know about the $200 after hours fee up front. Approximately 45 minutes later, Chris called and said he was on his way. He arrived when he said he would and got to work. He cleared the blockage and thoroughly checked to see that it was fixed, then he offered (for free) to run the camera down the pipe. Then he cleaned everything up, gave me my Angie's List discount and went off to save someone else.
Description of Work: Cleared stoppage in pipe. Camera'ed the line (pointed out it had been laid wrong). Reattached gas line.

The person I was on the phone with was great. She let me know who, what, and when and kept me informed in every way. The plumber was skilled and did beautiful work. The experience was great overall, but since the kitchen sink was not really an emergency, I wish I had shopped around for a little better price. I think I was enticed with the $50.00 off coupon you get for being with Angies List.
Description of Work: The plumber spent just under 2 hours replacing 2 stops and a T on the hot water side below the kitchen sink. His work was impeccable and he also found that my hot water heater had a slight gas leak which was quickly remedied with snugging up a connection (free of charge). He was the cleanest, most skillful and professional plumber you could want. However, with my average income, the price seemed exorbitant.

We were having some runoff from our yard that Andy's Sprinkler said was not from the sprinkler system. So, we called Baker Brothers. This was supposed to happen in 2 stages. 1. Finding the leak. 2. Double-checking and digging to repair the leak. Stage 1 didn't go so well. They arrived after 5, which was within the arrival window, but it was getting dark. I had words with #1 because I wanted to know if they needed to reschedule and have a full day to work. All I was getting from him was things like "Whatever you want to do.", not anything usefuI I'd need for a decision like what it would mean either way or would they have time enough or light enough, or would our house be torn up that night with the water off. I finally said ok and things improved a bit. They said they found the leak, and a new team to doublecheck and dig for it would come the next day. As it turned out, this first team turned out to be wrong about the location of the leak and even which line it was in. The next day's team was superb. They were professional, knowledgeable, fun, and very considerate about our needs and main room being uprooted during the process. We were so impressed with them and how hard they worked that it completely negated the issues with the first team. The price was very reasonable, considering they worked hard for days and it required a jackhammer. The holes were then filled in with fresh concrete. These guys were determined throughout that everything be done right for the customer.
Description of Work: There was an extensive and difficult search to find a leak under the slab using listening devices and a jackhammer. They found the leak over a number of days, repaired it, and filled in the holes with concrete. Now it's like it never happened.

It was so much better than I thought it would be! The workmen cleaned up quite well every day and were mostly very careful. They always used walkway/pathway protection on our floors. Aside from a small chip in one counter edge, you would never know that both bathrooms were completely excavated.
Description of Work: Six months after purchasing our home, we discovered the hard way that (unlike the seller's paperwork showing how all the plumbing had been inspected and repaired) every waste line under the foundation was cracked or broken. We had Baker Brothers come in and do a camera inspection of every drain. We had them do the hardest portions - repairing the two bathrooms that are in the center of the house, and running the new lines all the way to the street. This involved three sinks, two showers, and two toilets. We had them stop the work at repair/replacement of the foundation concrete - we replaced the flooring ourselves for the cost savings.

Response from Baker Brothers Plumbing, Air & Electric
We certainly regret that this upset the Member, however, our experience shows the majority of our customers appreciate knowing all costs up front. Since our technicians are not commissioned, and there is an expense involved in sending them to provide estimates, our policy is to charge a nominal trip fee. Although the practice of recapturing monies related to the cost of bidding lost jobs by charging hidden fees when giving “free estimates” might not be unusual, it's not a practice we adhere to since we believe in dealing with each homeowner on a one-to-one basis, giving them an estimate on work related to their job only. In many cases, the trip charge is credited back to the job when we do the work, but at the very least the homeowner has been given the knowledge beforehand of what they paid for, which we feel is the ethical way to do business.

Overall, a disappointing experience
Description of Work: No services were performed. I was shocked they charge $200 for a service call on Sunday - whether they repair anything or not! In addition, the person on the phone said they only want to install their water heaters. If I were to buy one at Costco or some other retailer they would not guarantee their work. Needless to say, I contacted another plumber.

Response from Baker Brothers Plumbing, Air & Electric
Sundays we are closed to allow employees to spend time with their families. We do offer an emergency service on Sundays and that is why we charge the $200.00 emergency fee. We apologize that this fee upset the member but feel it is justified since we are asking our employees to work on their day off. In regards to the water heater situation, we do prefer to provide the water heater, that way we can provide an exceptional warranty on not only the tank, but the parts and labor as well. When installing a customer supplied water heater, we can only warranty our workmanship and not the heater itself. We apologize that it wasn't explained more clearly by the representative that answered the phone on Sunday. We are happy that the member was able to get her situation resolved on Sunday. We do however regret that we were not given the chance to provide them service. We pride ourselves on our customer service and the member can be assured that we will further train our representatives that answer the phones after hours.

They showed up with a few hours of my call regarding my gas hot water heater that had stopped working. Given the age of the existing unit, they recommended replacement of the old unit, and gave me a complete estimate including code upgrades that were required. They had given me an estimate over the phone already based on the size, location and type of water heater to be replaced, but not including the code upgrades which they had to visually determine once here. They had the old unit out and replaced with the new unit, a drain pan installed, new gate valve on the supply line installed, and new pan drain line through the brick on my house within a couple of hours. The quality of installation was excellent and I could not be happier. Price was in the range of what I had expected so was not surprised by that. I will definitely call Baker Brothers for other plumbing needs in the future.

The Baker Bros. technician came out and verified the problem, and gave me an estimate for a new and larger hot water heater. The BB's bid was the lowest of 3 bids I got for the job. Other plumbers rolled their eyes at the job, told me it would be difficult to install a leak pan and leak detector (heater was in an interior closet with no drain access), and get the larger tank into the space. The BB technician said it would be a straightforward job, and it was. He came the next day on schedule, removed the old tank, installed the new one with the pan and leak protection, corrected the plumbing error, and was on his way in 1 1/2 hours. He readily accepted my Angie's List discount coupon. I couldn't have asked for a smoother job. Very professional, knowledgeable, and pleasant crew to work with. HIghly recommended! One negative: If you call BB for an estimate, they will charge you a service call. If you use them for the job, they rebate the service call charge. I agree with other complaints on Angie's List that this is poor practice that probably costs them a lot of jobs. I almost did not agree ro the bid and service call charge based on this practice. They should offer free estimates like everyone else, and include that overhead in their overall rate schedule.
Description of Work: I had a hot water heater that had been improperly installed and cross plumbed. This was a problem that had existed since the tank was installed and it had gone undetected by two inspectors and 3 occupants of the house. The tank was also about 15 years old and throwing off a lot of debris from the bottom of the tank. We renovated the bathroom in the summer of 2011 and the smaller tank was barely adequate for the tub we installed. Given the cross plumbing, we could not get enough hot water from the tank to shower or bathe. We wanted a) verification of the cross plumbing and b) a quote on a new and larger hot water heater installation.

Called Baker Brothers this morning first thing. They said they could do the next morning or this afternoon. I said that this afternoon worked. About 30 minutes later, they called and said that they had an opening this morning and could be out there between 30-45 minutes and asked if that would work. I said it did and headed to the house from work. When I got to the house, Baker Brothers was there. Brian came to the door and put on the footies to protect the floor and came in. I explained to him that I thought it was the valve as it only leaked when the water was on. He took all the hardware off and looked for a leak in the valve. He saw no leak and then thought maybe the seal on the water spout was bad and was backing up causing the leak. He that seemed to be the cause, but without opening up the wall in the closet behind the shower he wouldn't know for sure. He recommended that. I agreed and he proceeded to cut a hole to see where it was leaking. Fortunately, we did this and found that it neither the valve nor the water spout, but the overflow drain was leaking. Once it was identified, the repair was very fast. After repair, tested the water and all was well. Brian was very friendly and professional. Every detail was explained. Will definitely use Baker Brothers again in the future. My only regret was I forgot to bring the coupon from work when I left and forgot to reprint when I got home. My mistake. Even so, I was very pleased with every aspect of the service.

I had called about a toilett leaking that I had them work on last April. I had mentioned that to the dispatcher. The technician arrived about 2 hours later. When he arrived he said that it was under warranty and that he would fix it at no charge. He did an excellent job. I also had him replace an outside faucet that had been leaking. He explanined what would need to be done and quoted a price. He ran into some difficulty and it took longer that was expected, but the quoted price was honored without even a question. He sis an excellent job.

They were on time and very professional. The workers that came out gave me an estimate, explained the work that needed to be done and why it needed to be done that way. Once they had completed the work, they took pictures of the work done underneath the house so I could see what they had done. They also took the coupon from Angies list even though at the time I could not print it off. I will only use Baker Brothers for pluming issues.

I am very happy with Baker Brothers! This was the first time I had used them but it won't be the last. Everything went great: * Got a quote quickly and easily over the phone, which turned out to be right on except for the fact that I needed a bigger gas supply line for the size of the unit. A pet peeve of mine is when service providers refuse to quote a price over the phone because "every job is different". That wasn't an issue here. * Scheduling was very easy - they were willing to come the day I first called but that didn't work for us. We agreed on the next day "after 2 PM". They showed up at 3:50 and were done by 5:50. I was called 30-45 minutes ahead of time, which meant we didn't have to wait around the house for them to show up. * Before the technician, John, started he called to go over the job with me. Everything was straight forward except he did notice the gas supply line was too small and would need to be replaced. That was a $100 increase in the cost of the job, but between code compliance and unit performance requirements this is where you have to trust the expert. Of course, I'm much happier to hear this up front and not at the end. * John and his assistant were professional, courteous and quick - very happy with their work. * The only slight snafu occurred at checkout. My wife forgot to hand John the Angie's List coupon (10%/$50) before he ran the credit card. I guess the credit card machine they have on the job site can't reverse a charge, so we weren't able to use the coupon at checkout and were told to call the office. I was expecting some push back about "presenting the coupon at the time of service" but I got nothing of the sort. Tamara, at the Baker Brothers office, was very helpful in working with me to get a copy of the coupon over email and put a credit back on my card. If the test of how good a company's service really is comes when you have an issue (however minor the issue), then Baker Brothers passed this one with flying colors. As a point of reference, I did get a quote from another plumber that I've used in the past and Baker Brothers was about $300 cheaper, with most of the difference coming from the charges associated with the ventilation required to meet code.
Description of Work: Replaced an old (18 years old!) gas water heater. Also required was some minor code compliance work - a combustion air vent added to the closet and a new gas line. Included in the service was a permit, other hardware and disposal of the old unit. The unit installed is a 50 gallon Rheem Guardian with an 8 year warranty on parts and service. The cost above is my total, including taxes and about $200 to get my unit up to code/spec.
