My overall experience with Baker Brothers was very positive.
Description of Work: I asked them to evaluate whether I needed to relocate my hot water heaters for safety reasons. They took a lot of time and really checked out where they are located now and whether the location caused any concern. I feel very confident in their evaluation and would definitely call them if I need any plumbing work done. Both men were very professional and nice.

Baker Brothers was punctual and professional. My overal face-to-face service was great. However, that evening my husband and I started smelling gas. Baker Brothers sent their on-call tech to our home and discovered a major gas leak!!! He fixed it promptly and was very nice. I realize humans make mistakes, but we were told that the gas hose was not properly attached to the new valve. The tech that had come earlier in the day, although nice, made a HUGE mistake. I cannot help but think about what COULD have happend. My home and family could have suffered major loss if we had not noticed the smell of gas in our garage.
Description of Work: I had Baker Brothers come to my home to do some maintanence on my water heater. They replaced some of the valves, hoses, and vent that fed into my water heater.

The tech was very efficient in performing the tasks at hand. Everything was cleaned up, so I didn't have to walk behind and do it myself.
Description of Work: The commode in my master bath clogged. The water would come up and fill the bowl and then very slowly empty. I also had a problem with both toilets suddenly leak water several times a day. Also the one in the front bath wouldn't flush unless you held the handle down. The tech said they both needed new flappers. I thought the pricing of the 2 toilets was a little high, but I had no recourse. It's something that I usually handle myself, but I was recently hospitalized and my discharge instructions was no heavy lifting or straining.

too expensive for the work performed. took about 15 minutes to hook up a water line and cost $100 even with Angie's List coupon.
Description of Work: Baker Brothers came out on time to hook up a water line to my refrigerator, it took about 15 minutes to do this and he charged me $100 which I thought was a ridiculous amount for the work performed. I will not call them again because I believe that they are too expensive.

Response from Baker Brothers Plumbing, Air & Electric
We apologize that the Member feels that the cost was too expensive for the work performed. We did research the Member's claim and she did in fact pay $95.62 for our technician to hook up her ice maker line. The technician was dispatched to her job at 8:00 am, arrived at 8:30 am and left at 9:15 am. While there, he also checked one of her toilets and adjusted the fill valve for her at no cost. We do offer up front pricing as we price by the job and not by the hour. We do this to allow the customer to approve the charges before we begin any work. All of our technicians are trained to finish the job in a fast and professional manner as we know how valuable your time is.

I called BAKER BROTHERS PLUMBING and spoke to two very nice schedulers. They told me that they had a person ready to come out. They arrived in less than an hour. The gentleman arrived and identified himself with a smile. We went straight to the problem. He listened to what I had to say about the problem and then began his own evaluated. Soon afterward he gave me three estimates and explained the benefit to each estimate. He went to work immediately afterward. He wore shoe covers into my house . Nice touch! This person was professional and explained the process clearly. Afterwards he cleaned up. It was like the incident never occurred.
Description of Work: The toilet tank components were replaced and the tank was remounted. In addition, the shut off valve was serviced to stop a leak.

As an Angie's List member for 2+ years, I rely heavily on the reviews and at "quick" , if not lazy glance, I chose Baker Brothers Plumbing. This is the first time Angies List has let me down. First, when I called Bakers Bros I was told I needed to fill out a landlord/tenant form authorizing them to come out to my rental property. Jessica emailed me the form. I filled this form out, except for the portion asking for my Credit Card #, Expiration Date, and CVV Security Code. Instead, I wrote the words "Please call with an estimate of work and I can provide a CC# to begin work." Jessica called me after she received my completed form and said I had to give her a credit card # for them to come out and again I restated, "Yes, just give me an estimate and I can provide the CC#". I specifically told her I didn't provide my CC# on the form, because of the following legalese on the form. This is exactly how the bottom of the form reads: " I ________________ , authorize Baker Brothers Plumbing to perform repairs at the above property. I authorize Baker Brothers to charge my credit card for any repairs made to the property. If I can't be reached by telephone, I authorize Baker Brothers Plumbing to charge the $39 trip fee to my credit card." Again, my hesitation to provide my CC# is because I'm signing a form that essentially states that I'm authorizing Baker Brothers to perform repairs at my rental propery AND charge my credit card for any repairs. This is all BEFORE I've seen any sort of estimate! Jessica stated I interpreted it wrong (really??) and that I am ONLY authorizing them to charge my credit card for the trip charge, nothing else. Rather than argue this, I said fine, and gave my CC# over the phone, because every second lost, I had water leaking and I needed someone out there. No matter how many times I read the quote above, I don't see any other interpretation. ########Day of the Estimate####### Prior to me calling Baker Brothers, I had called the City, who shut off the water meter, pumped out the water and POINTED to the exact leak, a Quest fitting directly off the water meter (the Tenant also witnessed this). They also pointed out that it was on the house side, not the city side, hence why I needed a plumber. Travis from Baker Bros Plumbing came out to the house and begins to tell me that the leak is right next to the sidewalk. I didn't stop him (Travis not knowing that the guy from the City specifically pointed out where the leak was) and he proceeds to tell me how he may need to tunnel under the sidewalk and if the City allows them, to cut the sidewalk. He shows how he needs to tunnel a 3 foot section around the water meter. He tells me about the Quest fittings and that there's a lawsuit against them and they are simply a bad design, so bad that if he fixes this today, there's no warranty. [Great, in my mind, I'm thinking, what's my protection against you doing shoddy work?] I ask him point-blank, "So what you are telling me is...I could spend $1300 today and if it leaks again tomorrow, I'm out $1300, because there's no warranty at all?" He responds, "Yes that is correct." Then he proceeds to upsell me on the fact that he can replace the entire plastic Quest line with copper for $3700 with a 10 year warranty. Knowing I will get a second opinion, I ask for a few minutes to discuss this with the tenant, because now we still have water leaking and to get another plumber out would likely be the next day. At this point the tenant walks out and empathizes with me about the conundrum of having to wait another day or proceed with the work and he points to the water meter and questions the amount of time it would take just to replace the nipple fitting where it is leaking. I ask Travis in front of the tenant if the leak is at the water meter OR next to the sidewalk, that Travis specifically pointed out originally. Travis then changed his story completely and stated it was at the water meter. At that point I politely said, let me pay the trip charge and I'll call you if I decide to proceed further. I gave Travis $40 in cash (as noted on my receipt) for the $39 trip charge and he stated he didn't even have a $1. [Baker Brothers Plumbing, yes, you still owe me $1] Always trust your gut and from the very beginning, I felt like Travis was trying to swindle me. The guy from the City specifically showed myself and the Tenant where the leak was, yet Travis has this entire story about cutting into the sidewalk (if allowed by the City) or having to tunnel 3 feet underneath it! Now, how many water meters have you seen right next to a sidewalk, versus 1-2 feet away?? My specific water meter cover was 1-2 feet away from the sidewalk and I could see where the leak was without having to tunnel under any sidewalk, again, the guy from the City showed me exactly where it was. The edge of the man-hole cover is more than a foot away from the sidewalk and the center of that hole is even further away from the sidewalk. I was able to reach down and touch the leaking fitting with my own hands! Basically, had the guy from the City not showed myself and the Tenant exactly where the leak was, and IF I had trusted the Angies List reviews completely, I'd likely be out $3700 today! (Because who would shell out $1300 for something with no warranty whatsoever??) I trusted my instinct and called my WATER SPRINKLER GUY! I hadn't said more than "Quest fitting" and he knew exactly the problem as he replaces the Quest fittings all the time. (Something I think Baker Bros does all the time, too and would recognize as the issue.) He charged me $300 (parts and labor) AND that includes a brass fitting to replace the plastic fitting and he used gravel around the fitting area so when the soil expands/contracts in summer/drought, there's less chance of the fitting going bad again from ground-shifting. By the time he called me that he arrived at the rental property and I started to head on over, he had already dug up the metal cylinder cover (20 minutes) and already had the fitting off! The leak was exactly where the guy from the City had pointed to, the same fitting I could reach down and touch with my own hand. He only had to dig the width of his shovel to get the metal can out and wasn't even close to the sidewalk! In fact all he had to dig up was the metal cannister. He showed me the red-triangle thing to show that it wasn't leaking and we ran hot/cold water and the outside spigot to get the air out and re-affirmed there were no further leaks. I was so shocked by my experience with Baker Brothers, I went and read the D & F reviews (that I should have done the first time) and if you read the D&F reviews written on August 10, 2011 and then August 2, 2011, they sound almost exactly like my experience!! Unfortunately one of them already shelled out the $1100 in their report. (You'll notice that it's $1100 with no warranty and approximately $2k more to have a warranty...in my case it was $1300 and $3700) A water meter is just a fitting with 2 ends...if a fitting is visibly leaking, and you can touch the fitting, you might as well replace that fitting, it just unscrews, nothing more nothing less. Why couldn't Baker Brothers Plumbing have been more honest with an Angies List subscriber?
Description of Work: [Estimate was $1381 with no warranty or $3769 with warranty] Travis from Baker Bros Plumbing (3520 Dilido Road, Dallas, TX) came to inspect a water meter leak at my rental property. He wrote the following on my invoice-estimate: "Leak on Quest fitting at meter. Meter is located next to sidewalk and lines cannot be accessed without tunnelling under sidewalk. Access hole for tunnel $425, Tunnel per ft $318 x 3 ft = $956. Repair on Quest pipe total - $1381. New Copper Yard Service $3769, 10 year warranty." Verbally, he told me that the Quest pipes are plastic and known to fail, therefore he could not offer ANY warranty on any of his work if I only pay the $1381 to fix the Quest fitting. He stated that if it were to leak 2 days later, i'd have to pay for them to fix it again. He stated he could only offer a warranty if I replaced the entire line with copper from the water meter all the way to the house for $3769. Please read below for the full story from beginning to end.

Response from Baker Brothers Plumbing, Air & Electric
We sincerely apologize to the Member for the misunderstanding. We will be happy to refund his $40.00 back to him. Baker Brothers Plumbing has been in business since 1945 and we pride ourselves on our reputation. We can assure the Member that this is not how we conduct business. Our customers are our #1 priority. The Technician in question has been counselled by his Supervisor and will be attending mandatory training classes. As for the Authorization Form, we have the homeowner sign this in order to protect all parties concerned. I do however understand his concern for the way it is worded and we will make changes to the form to clarify the charges.

We use them for all of our general plumbing repairs. They do an excellent job...they are clean and courteous and the price is very nice. It's not the cheapest price but it's a reasonable price for what they do. They come in, do the job and if there's any question about the work they do they come back and address it. Their work is good and they are reliable. All in all I would recommend them highly.

When they took the old water heater out, they accidentally cracked a pipe in the wall. There was a slight leak. We went on vacation for a week. When we came back home, we called them back out. They were prompt about coming out. They were polite and efficient with their work to fix the issue. They dried everything out. It also did not cost me anything for them to fix the issue they caused. The price was a little higher than others, but I would rather use them. I would use them again in the future.

I was very pleased from start to finish. From the estimator on the phone to the two men who installed the water heater, the service was top notch. The over the phone estimate was very close to the actual price and Shawn (the fellow who gave me the approximate cost over the phone) was quite clear that there might be some additional things such as a pan, depending on my city code requirements. Brian and his helper arrived shortly after I was called (I had asked that I be given a few minutes notice so I could put the dogs up) and both gentlemen were very polite, friendly and efficient. Brian showed me exactly what needed to be done and why and explained everything. I felt like they were careful and knew exactly how to do the job and I felt completely comfortable having them in my home. Brian was also able to give me the actual price before they started and explained what would be done and the reason. Once the job was complete, he went over some things I asked about (such as how to drain the water heater once a year) and showed me everything that they had done. And I feel like their pricing was perfectly fair-I had also called a couple of other companies before I called them asking for a "ball park" figure on replacing my 16 year old water heater with a similar style model and Baker was right in line with the rest. Even the woman that set the appointments was perfectly nice when I initially called to cancel (since I tightened something or other and it almost stopped leaking) and equally nice when I called back a few minutes later to rebook (since indeed, I had actually managed to fix nothing!) I will certainly call them next time I need plumbing services.

After calling a few other plumbers to replace my aging water heater, I decided to go with Baker Bros. They had the water heater I wanted and the price was competitive. Surprisingly, they were able to come do the service that afternoon. The time rolled around and Bubba arrived on-time with his helper. After a couple questions, they got to work. About 2 hours later, everything was completed. I'd done my preparation so I knew what he should have done (at the minimum) to get long-term quality results. Upon inspection, he'd gone beyond that. Not only did he replace the gas flex-pipe, but the shutoff valve as well. He not only replaced the input shutoff with a 1/4-turn ball-type but he also installed one on the output side, just in case. The work was neat and tidy and he didn't leave a mess.

They were the most responsive of about 3 or 4 companies that I called, as well as incredibly courteous and communicative. One plumber came at the time they set, and finished the job in short order.

When I called the office to ask how much it would be to replace an 8" spread bathroom faucet (I stated that I had the replacement faucet, and both that and the faucet being replaced were 8" spread), the phone rep spoke with a manager, who gave a price range from $197-268. The rep informed me that this is a worst-case range, and often the price is lower depending on the situation. So I scheduled a technician who arrived at our house on schedule. While he was courteous, he immediately stated that the price would be $268 and showed me a price book to back it up. I asked him if there was any scenario in which the price for replacement would have been $197, and he said no - that never should have been in the price range given (much less the possibility that it would be lower). After explaining to him what I was told on the phone, he called the manager and the manager offered to give me the "value" price of $228 due to the misunderstanding. I was going to proceed since I had taken off work to meet him, but after I told him I had an Angie's list 10% off coupon, he said he'd have to call the manager again. The manager declined to honor the 10% Angie's List coupon, so I declined the work. However, they still charged me the $39 trip fee, even though the only reason I scheduled the trip was due to the wrong information I was given over the phone. Needless to say, I was very disappointed.

Exactly as I hoped. I called in the morning and they were at my home by mid-afternoon. The technician, Mike Salmon, was knowledgable and courteous. The work space was cleaned afterward such that you would not notice any work had been done, with the exception of the shining new valve. Finally, and most importantly, the water runs, does not leak and the new toilet works.

We called Baker Brothers Tuesday evening about 8:30 and they came out Wednesday morning to check out our report of water running from our sidewalk into a small stream going down the street. He pressure checked our home water supply system and our yard sprinker system and advised the water is not coming from our home . Then he went to our garage to place a sticker on our water heater explaining what to do if it needs service. At the water heater he showed us three leaks, so we had him remove it, install a new, 50-gallon Rheem water heater, and take the old one away. We also had him reconnect our kitchen sink water supply to the refrigerator icemaker supply line. Professional appearance, efficient worker! We will definitely call Baker Brothers again!

Had a blocked sink and washer line with overflowing of water into the garage and kitchen this Sunday morning. Called the emergency hotline and there was a 4 hour wait until a truck could be sent out. They arrived and ran the snake through the blocked line a few times and then sent the camera in to confirm that the line was clear. The plumber was very knowledgeable and professional. Their emergency call out fee was $200 which coupled with the unblocking fee seemed pricey, but everything was fixed that afternoon. I will say that the other four plumbers I looked into did not have emergency services so I believe that extra $200 is just the cost of getting something fixed on Sunday. I learned a lot about how the house is plumbed and consider it money well spent. I will be using Baker Brothers in the future. Hopefully in the distant future.

I went with them because of their availability. We did not have much time to shop for prices. Their prices were high and yet we used them. They had to rip off the foundation and drop a pipe there. It was a messy job, but they did an okay job.
Description of Work: I used Baker Brothers Plumbing in August to check for sewer leaks to the foundation work we had done.
