I feel like the guy they sent was a nice guy and probably did most of the work well, but when he worked in the kitchen, he did not tell us that there would be decreased water pressure after replacing the emergency shutoff. He had to come back and try again to give us more pressue but I can't tell a difference. Then after he left that time, I noticed that the water coming out of the kitchen faucet did not completely stop when using the sprayer, but I do not feel like dealing with another visit so I have just left it. As many good things as I had heard about them, it was a little alarming to have to call them back to re-fix what they had already "fixed".

I was out of town when my neighbor noticed my overflow drain for my water heater leaking out side my house. It was a slow leak from my 50 gal tank type water heater installed in my lower attic. I made an emergency call on a Saturday to Baker Brothers. They were quick to respond, and I had my son meet them at the house. We decided to replace the old water heater with a new 50 gal tan type Rheem with a 12 year warranty. The install went well as far as I could tell. My wife arrived home the next day and had hot water. The city was scheduled to come out a few days later to inspect, and it did not pass inspection due to code violations. There were 3 issues. The technician had cut two roof joists to make room for the water heater's height. The pressure relief drain line was not to code (an original builder issue), and the water heater was too close to a wall (also a builder issue for 22 years ago). So I had BB back out to find a solution. Fortunately for my wife's desire and unfortunately for my wallet, the only reasonable solution was to trade the tank type water heater for a tankless. So my $1,648 project ended up at $4,343. But I have to say the tankless is the best thing since sliced bread, as no one can ever complain at me again for lack of hot water. I just wish BB had been familiar with the city code, and could have told me that I needed to go tankless in the beginning, because the tank type would not pass. It would have saved a lot of time and suffering. So I'm not sure if my builder paid off the inspector 22 years ago or if the code changed in that time. Also, I replaced that same water heater in 2001, and used a smaller plumbing company, and had no inspection that I can remember, so the code issue was probably an issue in 2001. Baker Brothers is clearly much more professional than the small guys in general. Based on advertisements, I probably paid a little higher price, but there are so many factors that are specific to the install that it is hard to tell, and given my emergency timing, and being out of town, I didn't;t shop around. I picked them because of their top rating on Angie's list.
Description of Work: Installed a Rheem 8.4 gal / min tankless water heater, with a 12 year parts and labor warranty provided by Baker Brothers (not the manufacturer warranty which is less).

Very nice, personable, explained things without making me feel like a dummy. Gave me several options to fix one problem and thoroughly explained pros/cons and cost of each option. Friendly and knowledgeable. Didn't plan on spending that much originally but new faucet purchased from them cost the same as at the hardware store but comes with a 5 yr transferrable warranty - important since I'm selling my house. The shower leak was something they had fixed before a few months ago. I couldn't remember exactly what had been done so he called the office and they were able to find my history of repairs within a few minutes and determined that I didn't have to pay for the repair this time since they had fixed a related problem a few months ago, this saved me a couple hundred dollars!

I called and requested a hot water heater replacement, since the one in question was about 11 years old. I explained initially that the unit was located in the attic above the 2nd floor room, and was given a quote of $1035. My appointment time was between 8 and 9 am, but they didn?t call and showed up at almost 10 am. I was presented with several options, and decided to go with a unit that included a shut-off valve. What was surprising was that the quote for the unit was about $300 higher than what I was initially quoted ? the difference, according to the tech, was because the unit was located in the attic above the second floor; I indicated that I specifically indicated this on my initial call, but it made no difference. The tech advised that I had no code issues or updates required, so $300 seemed like an exorbitant charge for the attic location. Another factor contributing to my price rating was the fact that they charged almost $200 for about 5 minutes work on my daughter?s bathroom sink, which was slow draining due to hair and gunk and whatever else you?d expect from a 14 year old. The amount charged seems outrageous to me. I have to say that the tech and his assistant were professional and took the time to explain to me what they had done and the operation of the new hot water heater. The work was also completed faster than I?d expected ? he gave me an initial estimate of 2-3 hours for the hot water heater alone, but they were finished in 2 hours with both the hot water heater and the sink issue. I might consider using BB again due to their professionalism and apparent quality of work completed, but next time I would be sure that prices quoted and charged are fair so that I don?t feel taken advantage of.

Very expensive compared to others, but only one with guarantee and permit. Committed to Tuesday, but showed after call from me on Wednesday. Then, Chris was professional and competent performing a 2 man job by himself. He went up and down the attic ladder a hundred times! If you do this be wary of a blank check to make your property 'gas tight'. Once they start they cannot leave until piping on your property is 'gas tight', from the outside meter throughout the house. It may mean replacing the pipe from the outside meter under the ground to the house and every joint and fitting if they leak under pressure. They can only fix it, or leave with the gas off. Finally we have good flow in a nice shower.

They did good work. I used them before. They came out for one session to assess what was needed and second session for a guy who went under the house and fixed the problem. He was real nice and professional. They were always careful not to mess up the house which was easy to do when they were crawling around underneath. My report on them is good on most things except they were pretty expensive. In terms of price, we get what we pay for. When I decide, what I am putting up with is more expensive than they would be then I would have them come out and fix it.

Originally called Baker Bros. on Sunday, Mother's Day, when the problem occurred. They could get a tech to the house Sunday if I wanted to pay the additional service fee, but I decided to wait until Monday. Appointment was scheduled for Monday afternoon, and to my surprise the tech was available mid-morning and came sooner. I explained that the hot water was not hot, that the pilot would not stay lit, and that the thermo coupler had previously been replaced 6 months earlier. Water heater is now going on its 12th year. After a visual inspection, the tech offered to replace the thermo coupler again. If that didn't resolve the problem, he wouldn't charge me for the labor/part. We did discuss whether the controller and/or water heater needed to be replaced, but he wanted to try to fix it first before discussing alternatives. He had to go to Home Depot for the part since he didn't have it on his truck. He returned, replaced the coupler, and the pilot stayed lit and was working correctly to heat the water. The whole experience, attitude and professionalism of the technician, the cost and the speed with which the service was performed were all excellent. These guys are great!
Description of Work: Technician inspected hot water heater and replaced the thermo coupler. He even had to go to Home Depot for the part as one was not available on his service truck. Technician was in/out in less that 45 minutes, and hot water was in progress!

Our water heater busted on Thursday evening and we called Baker Brothers first thing Friday morning. The person we talked to was very pleasant and they were at our house before noon. We had to get a new water heater (as we expected) and they had one with them and they removed the old one, had the new one in and we had hot water again by early afternoon. They were VERY professional, took care of everything needed (including calling the city since they have to come out an inspect any new installation) and we were very pleased with their response time.

I went with this place because they had a high rating on Angie's List - wow! How misleading was that! Had I to do it over again, I would have choosen another Plumbing company and avoided Baker Brothers Plumbing all together. Just to make the house call and run a basic water pressure check (something I could have done on my own I found out later for free) I was quoted $250, but once the guy arrived he started tacking on charges, such as $120 just to remove the elbow joint (or something) on the toilet. If I didn't pay and he broke it I would be on me to fix he said (which sounded a bit threatening to me - as if I didn't pay it he might break the piece out of spite). I stopped the guy and asked, "Is there anything else I need to know about - hidden fees, costs, associated with any of the work your doing - please let me know now before you proceed." They guy got defensive, which surprised me, because repair men in the past have always proactively stopped and shown me what to expect cost wise when it came to a repair - even shown me the part that was broken and why it needed to be fixed, but this guy couldn't tell me anything about what he was doing, which caused a flag to go up in my mind. I had general contractor on site at the same time inspecting the house for the cosmetic repair work which needed to be done and upon hearing the conversation even he said that didn't sound right - that in his 30 years he had never had a repair person not walk him through the process before when he didn't understand. The guy with Baker Brothers ran in and out o the house to his truck a number of times, removed the toilet and ran water non-stop down the sewage drain and fiddled around with some instruments. Then he came back and told me I had a small leak in one of my pipes that I was losing "x" amount of pressure over "x" amount of time - but not to be concerned about it at this time, however he did claim to have found a sewage leak and wanted to charge me and additional $1,250 to do an exploratory search for it (which would involved drilling through the slab foundation) ... once they found the leak there would be a cost for the repair, and a cost to repair the drilling. I stopped the guy right there and asked him to break the cost and steps down for me in detail, but he wouldn't. At that point I thanked him for his time and said I would discuss the matter with my husband. The guy stood and stared at me. I had to tell him again - "thank you, I'll follow up once I speak with my husband." I thought the guy was going to throw his clip board down - it was obvious by the look on his face he was upset I was telling him to leave. We went out to his truck for something and when he came back his attitude had softened, but not by much - my $250 inspection ended up being $450 when all was said and done with all the little charges. Since the inspection, we haven't touched the sewage line and there hasn't been any back-ups and the water bill has not changed since before the house was leveled. This is not a company I would ever call or deal with again. The person who came out genuinely appeared to be trying to take advantage of the situation and was incredibly unprofessional. I felt like he expected me to take his word on what he was telling me at face value and not get a second option. If you're considering working with this company - beware!
Description of Work: I recently had my foundation repaired the first weekend in March 2012 and wanted to confirm that it didn't break any water pipes in the process, so I called Baker Brothers out to do an assessment ... what they tried to do is take me for a ride!

Requested assistance with a water heater issue. Went into the situation believing that a new water heater was necessary, but the plumber determined that this is probably not the case. There was a leak in the feeder line at the top of the unit. He quoted me both a price to replace the flex lines/shut-off value and a price on a new water heater in case I wanted one, but did not apply any sales pressure either way. He did say that if the issue turns out to require a complete replacement in the next few days, this work would have had to be done anyway and I won't have to pay for it again. I decided to see if the leak repair will handle the problem. The plumber did the work quickly and professionally. So far, it appears to have solved the problem.

9 days ago, we discovered that our hot water heater was leaking. It was 18 years old, so I was certain that replacement was an issue. I called another company and had them come out to do a simple replacement. I quickly learned that replacement was going to be anything but simple. The water heater was in a closet in my kitchen. However, the closet had been built around the heater and the heater would not fit out of the door without some serious deconstruction. Additionally, a water heater could not be put back in that location and meet City of Dallas Code. After an initial visit from a Baker Brothers tech, he sent Mark out because of Mark's level of expertise and our need for some creative thinking. Mark determined that our best option was to go tankless because a tank water heater could not be done without costly modifications to the house, etc. Mark was incredibly thorough and knowledgeable. I immediately felt comfortable that his approach was the correct one and that he would do a great job. I was not disappointed. Mark did the install for the price quoted, no add ons, etc. He also replaced some regulators on our other gas lines so that everything was up to code. He was professional, diligent, intelligent and efficient. This was, by far, the best service experience I've ever had. Also, Connie with BB was incredibly helpful in financing a portion of this project. While the standards for financing are high, her diligence helped us bridge the gap, making the project doable. I cannot say enough about Baker Brothers. This event was a disaster that would have been 1,000 times worse without their help. My wife and I are grateful for all they did. We give them our highest recommendation.

My water heater hasn't been heating as well as it used to, only giving a few gallons of hot water before it runs cold. I imagined that the heater was filled up with sediment from our hard water, and I figured it would need to be replaced. Baker Brothers came out the next morning after I called, very prompt response and service. They found the old heater to still be in working order, but upon draining it they found tons of sediment accrued, and recommended replacing the heater. They had a heater on the truck, so they could replace it at once, and offered me an 8-year warranty on the heater, because it was their own parts and service that installed it. That seemed like a good deal, so I accepted. About a week later, an inspector from the city came to examine their work, and he found no problems. Now I have plenty of hot water again.
Description of Work: Replaced 50-gallon Rheem water heater with similar size and model. The previous heater was already up to building code, so they did not have to perform extra services.

This winter I had noticed water standing in the meter well and figured it was a leak. Called Baker Brothers who very efficiently arrived to inspect and surmised a failure of the original water line (26 years old). They provided two options, either dig around to pinpoint the source of the leak or do a complete replacement of the line. I chose replacing the line as a better move. The work was done within a few days with minimal interuption of service. The old line was removed and replaced with solid copper. Baker Brothers is probably not the least expensive of plumbers, but I have used them in the past and rely on their efficency and quality.
