Call to get an estimate on having a gas "T" added for a pool heater. The plumber came out looked at the area where we are adding the "T" for the pool heater line (which is out in the open no digging or cutting required) and said he would also estimate the cost of also running the actual line 10ft, said ok. After about 10min he came back with a price for the addition of the "T" of $693.00 and $2450.00 to do it all at once. I told him that would be more than what the local plumber who's been in business for 20yrs would charge. He said he would call his boss and see if they could do better. He called no answer, so while we were waiting he asked if there was anything else we might need. So I said two lav shut off valves in the master bath so we went in so he could give a quote. To my amazement, to add the 2 ($8ea) valves on naked brand new pipe! $170ea yes $340.00 no cutting or sweating needed. All I can say is when you spend as much as baker brothers does on advertising, The make sure they make it up on the job they do for you, if they get the chance. A complete waste of $39.00.

We called the day berfore to inquire about replacing a kitchen faucet. My wife had spent the better part of two days researching options and styles. Lots to choose from and many ways to go wrong. Our call to Baker Brothers indicated they could come out, a**** what we needed, and make recommendations. The initial service charge (very inexpensive $39) would be credited if we did the actual work. They recommened letting them buy the parts as they would then fully warrant everything. Their recommendation ended up being exactly what we wanted and all was properly installed the next day!
Description of Work: This was their second visit to our home and the service was as good as the first. The first time they replaced a toilet. This latest trip they replaced a kitchen faucet and two shower heads. In both cases the work was done tiemly, completely, and under initially quoted price. We definitely will call them again.

Price was reasonable, preferred a little cheaper. But, with the additional repairs for no added cost, made me a customer for life.
Description of Work: Called the day of service, company sent out an individual to look at leak and give estimate. Estimate was for what could be seen and there might be additional charges. Got right to work and as he was working was able to identify that there were more problems, however, was able to repair additional problems for no added costs.

l can't begin to describe my DISGUST with Baker Bros. Please, please do your due diligence before hiring Baker Bros. I had a toilet back up in my kid's bathroom. I had another plumber out to "snake it" clear, not Baker Bros. When it backed up for a second time a few months later, I called Baker Bros. I paid $400.81 to have it cleared and have a camera sent through entire main line of my house. I was told by the technician "Wes" that I definitely had a break in my copper pipe. He showed it to me on the camera, while I was hunched over a tv screen in the bushes. It looked like nothing more than "white noise" to me. And of course it would, I'm not a plumbing expert and would not know what to look for. I trusted the fact he was telling me the truth. After he completed his entire assessment, he proceeded to tell me that they could "fix it", but it would take digging up entire side of my house to reach the break and repair it. He quoted a me a price of $22,700 to repair the "break". I am a single parent of 18 year old twin girls....needless to say, I do not have disposable income to throw around. I spent an additional $375.00 to get a second opinion and thank you, Jesus....I'm so glad I did. I called Dallas Plumbing and they came out to give me their assessment. They performed exact same sequence as Baker Bros. with camera, along with myself in bushes watching the tv screen. James Troxell at Dallas Plumbing said to me, "Ms. DuPree, I don't see a break in your pipe. You do have a lot of debris, but nothing that a good thorough cleaning couldn't fix". I spent the $1526.51 for the cleaning with Dallas Plumbing and have not had a single issue since then. I highly recommend James Troxell and Dallas Plumbing. I will never use anyone else and have many times since.
Description of Work: Baker Bros. sent out technician to unclog backed up toilet and then ran camera through main line to determine the cause of the backup. I was told that my main line was broken and it would cost me $22,700 for repair.

I had already picked out the model of the toilet I wanted, Baker Brothers called me back with a price for the toilet which included installation, 2 year warranty on parts and labor and removal and disposal of my old one. The process could not have been more smooth, albeit one small glitch, but it was handled appropriately and professionally. Baker Brothers was able to accommodate my working schedule and come on a Friday evening. The plumber John was professional, courteous and did a great job. One of the toilets was damaged on the way over, so they came back the following week to install the second toilet. They were on time, responsive (both times) and very reasonably priced. I would definitely recommend them to anyone.

Was shocked at the overall cost! Had to put a stop to the leak repair, as the charges were mounting exponentially. In hindsight, should have replaced the bathroom lavatory pop-up drain myself, but I was out of town on business. Will not use this vendor again as the flat rate charges are designed to drive up cost. The plumber was here about 4.5 hours. We never got an answer or solution for the problem we originally called for, which was the source of the leak that was causing the master bathroom vanity to break down. Also, after the repair call, the newer model Samsung washer, will no longer wash with cold water. And yes, the hoses are connected correctly.
Description of Work: All services were flat rate for work done, not hourly + parts. Minor Leak Search - $159.36 Replace Washer boiler drain valve - $220.47 Bathroom Lavatory Pop Up Drain - $157.16!! Repair Plastic Pipes for Washer hot/cold - $187.83 Fuel Surcharge - $30.00 (credit) Total Cost - $674.84

Since I've lived in this house, I've wanted to change my electric stovetop to gas. In the beginning I checked to see what it would cost to run gas to the kitchen and it was over $1500 so I gave up the idea of getting a gas stovetop. After twenty years we are updating the kitchen (removing popcorn ceiling, wallpaper, texturing, painting, replacing counters, etc.) While in the process we discovered a gas line behind the oven. From my previous inquiry about having a gas line run, I found out there are lots of restrictions and requirements concerning gas. Therefore, I called Baker Brothers and asked if they could tell me if it would be possible to run a gas line from behind the oven. She said she would send someone the next day day. Chris Allen Howard arrived in a company truck with Baker Brothers written on the side and a uniform with the Baker Brothers insignia on his shirt. Before coming into the house, he put covers on his shoes. I'm sure that companies that have these standards also verify their technicians qualifications. Chris checked and said that the line could be run. He explained what would have to be done and the materials that would be used. Unfortunately, even though the cost would be less that half of running gas from outside, I did not budget for the gas line and new stovetop so the work will have to wait. BUT when I do get it done, I will be using Baker Brothers.
Description of Work: Technician checked to see if a gas line could be run to stovetop area.

A leak started quite suddenly at our bathtub faucet. I called Baker Bro. on a Friday morning and they were able to send a Master Plumber (Craig) out that afternoon. They gave me a call that afternoon to tell me he would be arriving within 30 minutes and he did. He made sure to wear his booties in my home, which is very thoughtful. He inspected the problem and showed me his pricing. He even prompted me to redeem the Angie's List coupon! I had to leave him in the house while I went to pick up a kid and when I returned less than 30 minutes later, he was done. He even tightened the handles on similar faucets in two other bathrooms at no charge and showed me how to do it in the future. He also put a sticker on my water heater showing emergency shut-off procedures, which I appreciate. I had called another plumbing company for an estimate before I called Baker Brothers. The other guy gave a rough estimate of $210 and the work couldn't be performed until the following Tuesday. I'm glad I called Baker Bros. for same day service that ended up being $130 and glad I got to meet such a customer service oriented plumber. He's certainly an asset to Baker Brothers.

They were real good. Our house is moving and they said they could fix the line that was leaking but it would cost a lot of money. They said that if we waited until we fixed the house and got it to quit moving, then they could come out and fix the plumbing. That way it would save us a lot of money; otherwise they would have to charge us twice. We liked their honesty and integrity. They haven't really done anything yet; they were just honest with us. They didn't charge us when they came out.

Had an outside faucet with low pressure I needed looked at. Contacted Baker Brothers through Angie's List at 7:30 AM on a Monday morning; they called me by 9 AM the same day and we set the appointment. Mike Salmon from Baker Brothers showed up on time. I showed what was happening and gave him the back story on the issue. He gave some probable causes and told me of the pricing structure and was sure I understood before starting any work. Luckily it was something minor and Mike had it fixed pretty quick. He explained what happened and why it happened. I was very happy with the overall professionalism and treatment I received from start to finish.

Great service. Work was completed in 4 hours. Baker Brothers recommended adding an automatic shutoff sensor which we did. We will definitely use them again!
Description of Work: Our 16 year old water heater went out. We called for different estimates and went with Baker Brothers. Shaun educated us on our options (replacing with traditional or going to a tankless style). Chris came out and reviewed our situation. Heater was in the attic. We decided to replace with another traditional heater.

The story is listed above. This was a service performed for my mother's home. These individuals charged more to do an inferior job and took advantage of a trusting individual. If I could not trust them to take care of my own mother then in no way could I refer them to anyone else.
Description of Work: After reading good reviews on Angie's List we chose Baker Brothers to come out and replace a non-properly functioning outside faucet. They arrived Monday morning and removed several bricks to replace the faucet. While removing the bricks the plumber broke one brick and then after replacing the faucet, placed the other bricks, WITHOUT mortar, around the faucet. We were told that a mason would arrive the same day to properly brick up the hole. Monday at around 4:40 pm we placed a call to Baker Brothers stating the mason had not shown up as expected. They were completely unaware and assured us that the mason would be out to repair the brick the following day (Tuesday 8/14). After three phone calls to the plumber between 9 and 9:30 am on Tuesday morning they again assured us the mason they use would be out that very day. Around noon on that Tuesday we received a call telling us the mason they use cannot go out during the day, due to the heat, and we would have to wait until the following day (Wednesday 8/15). Now (Tuesday evening 8/14) there is a storm passing through and this 2 ft x 2 ft porous hole surrounding the faucet in the rear brick wall of the house is completely unprotected and very likely to collect large amounts of water. Any damage to the insulation and beams is likely to be far more damaging and costly than a simple faucet head replacement, which is all we wanted. *On Wednesday (8/15) the mason arrived that morning and reassembled the brick around the faucet. However, instead of replacing the broken brick, he simply stuck it back together with mortar which is in no way desirable.

I called for my disposal to be replaced, as it had seized up completely and could not be turned. Baker Brothers came out the next morning to replace it. While examining the pipework, they suggested that I rework the pipes, since one of them was leaning at the wrong angle, and water would collect in it rather than drain properly. I agreed, so they got to work. The job was finished in about 2 hours. No leaks found, no mess left behind. It was a good job, and it even comes with a two year warranty. I appreciate that.

Overall, very good experience and will use them again. They were very friendly on the phone, scheduled me quickly both times, followed up with a Thank You note in the mail, came and went quickly, no muss no fuss. I recommend giving them a try.
Description of Work: The week before they came and cleared the line, found out we have roots growing into an old, cracked cast iron pipe. He showed me the camera image, very clear and easy to see exactly what was going on in there. Line also needed "jetting" out, but they don't carry that equipment on their trucks so we had to schedule again if we wanted that done too. So I did reschedule them and this time, 8/6/12, we had them back to "jet" the line out and really clear the roots. I'd been given a quote on the initial visit and it was honored, as well as my 10% coupon from Angie's List which almost paid for my new 2-yr subscription! The plumber was efficient, timely, and gave me info on how to keep the line cleared and save ourselves the hassle and $$$ in the future.

We heard water running and could not locate the source after turning on/off outside faucets. Called Baker Bros and they were out the next day, located the leak and completed the slab repair the next day. This is the third time we have used Baker Bros. in the past year: from repairing an outside leak, toilet installation and the slab leak. Each time they have arrived on time, done their work and not left any messes in the house or the yard. Their employees have explained the problems and taken care of them. Very happy with their work.

Original call for services was for repair of 2 exterior faucets, and original estimate was $400. They arrived on time, discovered that the faucets were the originals. Old-timey valves that required the brickwork to be removed in order to access the part needing repair. This increased the estimate to $1400 due to the brickwork required. The plumber completed the plumbing work and did it well, but left gaping holes in the wall (did not replace bricks which were removed). My husband had to call repeatedly to request the brickwork be completed, and was not getting any kind of response. Meanwhile, we discovered the ice maker valve in the kitchen was leaking. (This in the days before we moved in to our new -- preowned --house while it was being painted.) So, we called for an appointment on this issue, and they were timely in response, and prompt at the appointment. During this visit, my husband complained to the plumber fixing the ice maker valve that he had not gotten any response from the company on the brickwork. This plumber called the company on my husband's behalf, and then the company was responsive as far as directing a masonry contractor to come out to the house, and finally repair the brickwork. (Which was done very well!) The faucets and the valve are fixed; my husband was just unhappy that it took repeated calls with no results. If the second plumber hadn't called in for us, who knows? We might still have holes in our brick walls!
Description of Work: They were contracted to fix two exterior faucets, which were of the old-timey type requiring the exterior bricks surrounding the faucets had to be removed. Also, on a second (and unrelated visit) fixed the icemaker valve in the kitchen which was leaking.

My water heater broke and Baker Brothers came out on a Sunday to fix it. There is a weekend upcharge of course, which is a little frustrating, but everyone I called had a ?Sunday fee? as well. Many companies I called were not able to install that day, so I was grateful that Baker Brothers could. I asked for a quote over the phone, which they gave me. When the service man arrived, he quoted me a higher number. When I told him about the quote over the phone, he said he did not know they had given me one, but would honor it. They had to come back another day to install a drain pan and pipe to meet code. There was an additional charge for this, but I was expecting it, so I wasn?t surprised. One thing that bothered me was that several months after the installation, I found out that they were supposed to have ordered a permit for a City inspection, but they never did. I called to ask about it and they didn?t offer any reason why it hadn?t been done, but scheduled it right away. I had relied on them to make sure everything was done properly, so it was a little concerning that this step in the installation had been left undone. This, along with the difference in the quoted price, left me with a feeling that wasn?t as positive as I would have liked. Over all they did a good job, and I may hire them again for future work, but I will certainly do my homework in advance to make sure that I get a fair deal and that something doesn?t fall through the cracks.

My first impression of this company was the way in which I was greeted by the dispatcher who answered the phone: cheerful, professional and customer service oriented! I also received a thank you note in the mail for after the estimate was provided. A nice touch. I was pleased that this service provider was able to send a representative to my home on a day convenient for me versus them. This, even though I paid a $39 service call fee given it was scheduled on a Saturday. The current hot water heater was in need of replacement as soon as possible. A new refrigerator installation on the same day created awareness that the hot water heater was not in a good state. The line for the water and ice dispenser is connected to the hot water heater. Hence, the realization that the hot water heater was likely on the brink of breaking down. While it wasn't broken, it was 15 years old and I was living on borrowed time. The representative called in advance to confirm the Saturday morning appointment and arrived exactly when he said he would. He was professional, personable, thorough and a licensed plumber. That said, there was a fair amount of up selling going on during his visit to add this and add that (nice to haves) for additional cost. So, selling is part of the plumber's role at Baker Brothers. To be clear, while I phoned the previous day and received a quote over the telephone, I was uncomfortable accepting such a quote without a licensed plumber physically seeing the unit. After all, I am not a trained technician. That said, I made it clear to the individual, Sean, giving the phone estimate that I desired a representative to come to my home to actually see and determine everything that needed to be fixed/replaced. The person who actually came to my house showed me the work order that indicated work was to be performed on the same day which was not accurate. I learned that Sean, also a licensed plumber, was given a desk job to accommodate his injured back which is the reason phone estimates are being provided to customers. It gives me cause for pause that providing phone estimates with the blanket statement that there may be other things that surface which the phone estimate doesn't take into account may actually be placing the company at risk. That said, I'm savvy enough to insist on a physical estimate. As it turns out, the phone estimator could have never known what was going on in my attic where the venting system is situated, i.e., it needed to be completely replaced as it had been improperly installed. Notwithstanding, there was asbestos surrounding the venting system which was acceptable to use at one time. In the end, the estimate was exorbitant! Of the three (3) estimates I received, it was $1,000.00 more than the second highest estimate and $1,500.00 more than the third estimate. Keep in mind, the customer is paying for a lot of overhead associated with this company. A well established and reputable company, of course, but a company with a lot of overhead which is factored into their pricing. Ultimately, I selected a company which is owned and singularly operated by a 34 year licensed Master Plumber with an excellent reputation. He has no overhead for which to account as reflected in the price I paid.

Requested quotes from several vendors on July 23rd. Received email from Jessica that they do not provide quotes over the phone or via email. She said a tech would come to the house and provide a quote in person and that would cost 39.00 for a trip charge. I told her I was only looking for quotes from vendors and that others have provided to me already. I told her with this practice that the company was most likely losing business. Next day rec'd another email that someone could give a quote over the phone but I had already picked a vendor who provided a detail, quick quote via email as I instructed.
