Bakers fixed my issue, and they were much more honest than my last plumber! Public Plumbers Service was horrible. The plumber charge 140 dollars for diagnosis. He did not resolve a single issue. Finally, I gave in and called Baker's. They did not arrive on the dot; however, Ron did diagnosis my issue on my master bedroom shower. He gave me advice to go to Home Depot to pick up a shower head and hook it to the pipe instead on this device. He helped save me money on this issue. As for my guest shower, he arranged a drain tech to come. The tech was professional and removed the clog. He also gave advice on how to prevent further clogging. I would recommend this company instead of Public Plumbers Service. 140 dollars for wrong diagnosis vs 159 for just draining part and no charge for the original diagnosis.
Description of Work: Problem: 1) clogged shower drain in my guest bathroom and wondering if rust was in my water 2) Shower head clogged or possibly due to cartridge

Their pricing scheme was dishonest. The bottom line is that they knew the price they gave on the phone to come out and diagnose my problem was not the real price for that part of the job. They knew they were going to triple the price once the technicians got to my house and they didn't tell me the true price to get me locked in. I will never use this company again. I was told on the phone that the "trip fee" was $99. That's high, but OK. However, when the technicians arrived the next day (earlier than the time window I was given on the phone) they admitted that to diagnose the leak they would have to go into the crawlspace on my pier and beam house. That was obvious, and I told them that on the phone the day before. Then they tell me the fee to go into the crawlspace was over $200 in addition to the $99 trip fee. That's unreasonably high, and they did not disclose that price on the phone the day before even though they knew that was required to diagnose the leak. Of course, they would would waive the crawlspace fee only if I agreed to have them fix the problem they diagnosed. Another lock-in trick. They refused to give me an estimate of how much it would cost to get the problem fixed before they went into the crawlspace, but read a couple of prices from their price book for typical repairs--all over $400. I believe all of the prices in that book were unreasonably high, but I had already committed to the trip fee because they didn't tell me any of this until they arrived at my house to do the job. After I agreed to let them into the crawlspace the final price to actually fix the leak was going to be $750 + trip fee = $850. All to replace one six inch length of cracked copper pipe. If I didn't want them to do the job, I had to pay over $300 anyways. I feel deceived. That was the price until they discovered that their initial diagnosis of the leak was wrong. There was also a second leak, they said. They would only fix that one for another $200. I don't understand how they missed the second leak in their initial diagnosis--they used the same air compressor trick on the same pipes. Pedro and Jason, the technicians who came to my house, were quite good. They were courteous and professional, and aside from having to go back to base to get the right size pipe, they completed the job reasonably quickly. I gave them a B in quality only because they started talking to me about the crawlspace fee before they completed all of the analysis that they could have done above ground and outside, which makes me think that the technicians are in on the lock-in tricks as well. I would use these technicians again if they worked for a more honest company.
Description of Work: Came to my house, diagnosed an underground sprinkler system leak, and repaired it. Then discovered a second leak and repaired it as well.

The plumber was very knowledgeable about what the problem was and what was necessary to fix it. He took the time to explain the repairs needed. His work was outstanding. He was very courteous and professional, and he cleaned up after the job was completed. The job required pulling out the tile work and installing new plumbing fixtures. The old fixture was corroded. I truly believe the quality of work that was performed will last for the next 35 years.

I called about 10a and was told they could come out this afternoon, I ask if they could give me a time frame because I had to pick my kids up from school and they said they could NOT but they would call me 30 minutes before or when he was on his way to let me know and if I needed to pick up my kids he would wait at the house til I got back. They called me at 330pm and said I was still on the list for a tech to come out and would call me when he was on his way. They called just as I was getting in the car to pick up my 1st daughter from school and I told them I was just headed out to pick up my daughter. She said that's fine he wouldn't be here for 30 or 40 mins. I picked up my daughter and waited..... At 445p I had to pick up my other daughter I got back to my house at 5pm and he was at the house. I showed him where I saw the water (which wasn't there at the time because it happens when the tub runs) so I showed him the pictures I took the night before. He said ok lets look at the bathroom. He looked at the tub and ran the water for about 2 secs. Then told me he had to run a test on the tub that would cost me $159.00 to do the test. I told him I thought that's what I was paying him the 39.00 fee for. I thought the 39.00 fee was for an est. on repairs, but to my surprise that was ONLY to get him to come out and then I was going to be nickel and dimed on tests with no guarantees. I told him I couldn't do that and wanted to get quotes with other companies and saw there were several in my area that don't charge for an est. I'm a single, widow, with 2 small children and I'm on a fixed income not to mention Christmas is just around the corner. I cannot afford to be nickel and dimed, I NEED the BEST price I can get. He said ok then I'll write this up for you and it will be $39.00 for the call. He was here all of maybe 3 mins. That was the biggest waste of money I have ever spent. I wish when I made the appointment that they were clear on what the $39.00 charge was for and that any test they might have to preform just to get me an est on the problem would be an EXTRA charge. Anyway here is the est he left with me after 3 mins. EST. to test tab $159.38 If it is tab drain maybe able to pull skirt to repair, if it is valve will have to pull skirt. EST to pull skirt $700.00. if skirt is already pulled (if i did it myself) EST. $485.71 EST. to tunnel to repair drain $2093.69 I definitely would NOT recommend Baker Brothers to anyone.

I had tried to replace the faucet interior myself, doing all the right things. When Baker guy got there, he repeated the process and it didn't work, either. I asked him to check the "plugged" cold water faucet, and he told me that it wasn't plugged; it just wasn't hooked up. In a 1965 remodel, the "plumber" had not changed ancient galvanized pipe to copper, so I wasn't even getting water, period. He ended up pulling the lavatory console out, crawling under the house via a very small, muddy pier-and-beam crawlspace, removing galvanized pipe, cutting and soldering new copper pipe in the hall on a protective tarp, taking extreme care not to burn anything, and fixed the whole thing. What started out as a "leak", and "no cold water" ended as a major, monster job that took him an entire day. He needed another worker but did it all by himself. I'm not even sure he ate lunch. He was exhausted, but finished the job, replaced the lavatory console and cleaned everything up. I got a $50 discount, and have cold water & no leaks in tub. I'm sure he never wants to lay eyes on me again; I don't blame him.
Description of Work: Replaced leaking bathtub faucet guts, determined why no cold water came from the lavatory sink. Had to take the bathroom of a 1938 house apart, and did so admirably.

Day one tech said cost of repair is about $1500.00. Sent crew on day two, tech said he could do job for a lot less. Repairs were $690.00. Looked good, tech said first day tech was not qualified to do cheaper repair. Sounded like I got lucky, but the repair only took 1.5 hours or about $ 425.00 per hour. I think this is to high priced for me to use them again. Also I think the first day tech should have been qualified to do the repairs. Day two cost me another day off of work.

After owning our house (built in 1967) for two years, our primary water heater stopped working. After removing the panel, I found that the heating element was arcing and completely charred. Since the tank was out of warranty, I contacted a plumbing company, who came out and quoted me between $1400-3500 for a number of different reasons: 1) The heater had been built into a small cabinet in our spare bathroom, with practically no access to it. 2) The electric heater was installed incorrectly, with no drain pan/pipe exiting 6" from the house, no electric shutoff switch, and exposed wiring. 3) The plumber claimed he couldn't fit under the house. After that, I visited a manager at Lowe's, showed him pictures and detailed the situation. He spoke to a plumber and they agreed that they could get the job done, for a minor additional fee over their standard install fee of roughly $400. This turned into a 5 day fiasco, which resulted in no install, (still) no hot water. I contacted two different general contractors, which did not return my calls or make time to come by the house to even assess the job, for their own reasons. With another 4 days gone and *still* no hot water, I decided that I was going to do whatever it took to at least get a working tank in so my wife could shower at home. So, I demo'ed out the cabinet and doorway into the bathroom myself. At this point, I started calling plumbing companies, and after a few calls, ended up calling Baker Brothers, due to the high number of positive reviews here on AL. My conversation with a "hot water heater specialist" at Baker Brothers was informative, succinct, to the point. He explained the basic costs and agreed to have his guys come out and look things over for a $39 fee that would be waived if I had the work performed. I opted to have them install the water heater I had purchased, because it is 20" in diameter and frankly, I didn't want to waste another 2hrs of my life by returning it to Lowe's. The very next day after I called and made the appointment, Josh M. and Alfredo M. showed up at my door, on time. Both of them had professional, friendly attitudes, quickly assessed the work and gave me a final quote to perform the work needed, that they were able to perform themselves (electrical and rebuilding the cabinets was obviously outside of their job-description, and I had no mis-placed concepts about this from the get-go). I said, "go for it" and they worked quickly to get the job done. Their install was clean, and Josh answered all of my questions, and quoted me on some other plumbing work that I may have done in the future. I would recommend this company in a heartbeat. I wish they had been my first call.
Description of Work: Replaced hot water heater, ran drain pipe to code specifications, provided me with detailed information in order to have an electrician complete wiring so that it will pass code/inspection.

Didn't confirm first appointment. Plumber showed up. I, of course, wasn't at home (since I didn't know the person was coming). Scheduled for the afternoon...never showed, never called. When I called them...the Dispatcher giggled and said, "Oh...sorry about that. We never had anyone become available." REALLY!!! So, I spent my afternoon waiting...and Baker Brothers didn't even give me the courtesy of a call (either time)!!! My advice: "Steer clear!"
Description of Work: Baker Brothers failed to make appropriate arrangements TWICE in one day!!! They spend so much money on TV advertising...my suggestion to them is that they use some of those advertising dollars to train their Staff!!! Would I use them (or recommend them)? Absolutely not!!!

Glenn was very polite and helpful by explaining everything. My toilet had been running non stop for months, he diagnosed the problem. Gave me the total fix recommendation with prices and the min. Repair that could take place to fix the problem. He explained the risk of taking the min. Repair and even gave me their price to replace the entire toilet. He was quick, personable and professional. He placed a sticker on my water heater to help with turning it off, in case of overflow, which was awesome. I had no clue how to turn it off. I'm very happy to have found this co.

I came home on Friday and found water in the kitchen coming from inside the wall behind the refrigerator. Baker Brothers answered the phone on the first ring at 7:00pm on Friday night with a courteous and helpful service attendant. At 9:00am the next morning (Saturday) a plumber arrived exactly on time and described what caused the leak and the best way to repair it. He gave details and described what a "quick" fix would do and how it wouldn't last as opposed to a "correct" fix. In two hours he removed a spider web of corroded and leaking interconnected copper tubing and replaced it with quality soldered and organized tubing. I couldn't be happier about the quality and speed of the repairs from start to finish. I definitely recommend Baker Brothers for plumbing work and will use them exclusively in the future if needed.
Description of Work: A leaking copper pipe was replaced behind my refrigerator. The leak was in the middle of several copper pipes all connected with T-connectors. Every one of the T-connectors had to be cut out to replace the leaky one in the middle because there was no way to reassemble them except as a complete set.

We were in the process of disconnecting our washer hoses in preparation for a new washer installation when we discovered that the hot water faucet spigot was broken and would not seal closed. This was on a Saturday and we had no choice but to turn the water off to the entire house and hope that we could get a plumber to come out to fix it during non-regular business hours. Fortunately, Baker Brothers came to the rescue and saved the day. There was a real person on the phone that we could get updates from as to when the plumber would be on the way. Once he arrived, Pedro went right to work and installed new spigots on both faucets and even insulated the pipes for us, all within about an hour. We were tremendously grateful and glad that we did not have to spend the night in a hotel or inconvenience one of our neighbors to use their shower and toilet. I highly recommend Baker Brothers for their great quality work, great service and professionalism.

The plumber (Chris, I believe) was able to come the next morning after I called, called ahead of arriving, and arrived exactly at the time promised. He quickly identified the problem, had the equipment to repair it, and offered an honest selection of the possible repair options. Once we made the decision as to the repair, he performed the installation and cleanup quickly, professionally, and efficiently. It was as if nothing had gone wrong in the first place.
