Baker Brothers is absolutely gouging their customers on price. Even the last tech who quoted me my complete new air conditioning system said he knew they weren't the cheapest. They have failed to meet appointment times (apparently everyone is a family plan member so there is no actual moving up to the front of the line for the membership fee). They didn't even offer HVAC/Air duct services for a while when I tried to get a quote. My understanding was they had no employees at that time to perform the services. They now offer it, but I had to go with another company at the time, and I was not able to use family plan discount BB's offers. Yesterday I called to inquire about replacing a toilet. $450+ dollars for the Kohler Cimmaron which averages $200 online and at Home Deport for various models. Then another $269 to install it. I was told the price was that way because they offer a 5 year warranty. I bought a toilet at home Depot, had a referral from a neighbor and had a guy install it for $100. I just saved $400. I'm in sales and I understand profit margins and revenue, but Baker Brothers is ridiculous. My company offers a lifetime warranty on every product we sell, and we don't mark up the price from our cost 100%+ on anything, especially because of a 5 year warranty. Hey Baker Brothers, you have a plethora of competition and your customer service is no where near to justifying the price you charge your customers. The parts you offer are not any different from parts that other companies offer. I have a family member that owns a heating, air conditioning and plumbing company in another state and he LAUGHED when I told him what you quoted me for the new air conditioning system and to replace the toilet. Customers can find reliable, responsive competitors who offer the same products you offer, with better customer service, for a fraction of the price. True story.

Thank you for your feedback. I did pull your work order from the last time we were out in March. I also see where you were scheduled for us to come out in July to give an estimate for duct cleaning but cancelled your call after the technician was dispatched to your home. Although our prices are not the cheapest, they are also not the most expensive. We have been in business since 1945 and have thousands of satisfied customers. We did not get to where we are by price gouging our customers. Our prices are right in line with other companies that are the same size as we are. We offer a quality service at a fair price. All of our technicians have been background checked, drug tested, and receive continuous training. We have won numerous customer service awards and have also received awards for our service department.

I'd highly recommend to anyone who needs minor service around the house to use this company. They are responsive, knowledgeable and work quickly to resolve the issue. We own and maintain several properties, and depended on them to fix all our plumbing related issues. They have been consistent, reliable and competitively priced!

I initially called Baker Brothers (because I have the family plan) to come out and investigate my system for not cooling. They put some refrigerant in the system but indicated that the it would not help much since they detected a leak in the evaporator core. Well they were right. 24 hours later my system was not cooling again. Daniel quoted me several options from just replacing the evaporator coil to an entire system replacement. He was very knowledgeable on my various options. In the end I decided my aging system should be replaced. I went with the 2 stage system with a high Seer rating. I don't know if it was because of the family plan or if it was that I spending a big chunk of money, but Baker Brothers got the system installed quickly, specifically the Friday before Labor Day weekend. They even loaned me a room air conditioning unit until the system was installed which helped me sleep during the night. During the course of the new install I saw six or seven workmen, all of them very professional and dedicated to getting the job done right. There was a mishap during the installation where one worker stepped through the ceiling, but the next business day Mr Franco was out to fix the ceiling. No one, not even me, can tell it happened now. All in all, I now have a more efficient system and a new fancy techno toy (the thermostat) to play with because the system has the latest technology and is connected (IOT - Internet of Things). Bottom line, I can see the performance details of the system in real time. Is Baker Brothers too expensive...not if you want things done right.

Beware the allure of the radio advertisements read by the hosts you trust. Unless you're made of money and enjoy being lied to. On 9/1/2015 0ur toilet tank was leaking onto the floor. We shut off the water supply and called our home warranty company. They said they couldn't have anyone out there until 9/3/2015. So on 9/2/2015 in the morning I called Baker Brothers and asked that they send somebody out. I knew it couldn't be anything too complicated, and since our warranty deductible was going to be $75 I figured it was worth it to get it done a day sooner even if we had to pay a total of $125 or whatever, since this is the only toilet in the house. Company arrived promptly, even a bit earlier than expected. They ran some water into the toilet tank, looked at the water leaking on the floor, and shut it off again (although not completely). They proceeded to tell us we had a cracked toilet tank. They gave us four repair options: a "major tank rebuild" for about $380, a new Kohler toilet installed for about $660 (including 5 year warranty), a standard 2-piece toilet installed for $540 (with 2 year warranty) or we could provide a toilet ourselves and they would charge about $265 to install it. I told them not to bother, because our warranty company would cover some of the cost if we used the plumbing company they had assigned, and if I was going to save $200 or $300 I may as well wait a day. Obviously Baker Brothers was not quoting the cheapest price around, but all the radio advertisements I hear talk about what "quality work" they do, so if it wasn't for having my AHS warranty I would have gone ahead with the work. By the way, the tank was leaking again when I got home because Baker Brothers had not turned the shut off tightly. In fact, they had diagnosed the problem without removing the tank at all; they just removed the tank lid and ran some water in. THANK GOODNESS I didn't fall for their lies. The plumbing company our warranty sent out arrived on 9/3/2015. He removed the tank entirely and inspected it thoroughly. There was no crack in the tank ANYWHERE. And he was beside himself as to how any licensed plumber could diagnose a cracked tank without removing the tank unless it was visible from the top or outside (which it wasn't, because there was NO CRACK. Baker Brothers had simply LIED and MISDIAGNOSED the problem...well, they didn't diagnose it at all, since they didn't DO anything but lift the lid and run water in it to find it leaked...which was the whole reason they were there, so obviously it LEAKED). The plumber found all he had to do was replace the tank-to-toilet gasket, which was old and quite worn. Since we had a $75 deductible we had to pay, he want ahead and replaced a few other tank parts that he said were still working but were old and would wear out eventually...because he didn't want us to have to pay $75 for a $6 part and 15 minutes labor!! A far cry from the "major tank rebuild" quote of over $380 Baker Brothers gave us. He did tell us he could call the warranty company and probably get approval for a new toilet because of the age of this one, but said there was no reason to do that unless we wanted the new one. (If you check my reviews you can find the plumbing company who did the job for us). The next day I called Baker Brothers and CALMLY complained about being lied to. I gave detailed information to the woman who answered the phone, and told her I wanted a call back from somebody to explain. I have her my work and my cell number. I feel I am due the $39.99 back since I paid that for a visit and a diagnosis, not somebody coming in the door to lie to me. Not surprisingly, days later nobody from Baker Brothers has called me. After reading some of the reviews on here I feel lucky that Baker Brothers and their so-called well-trained plumbers only took me for $40. BEWARE!!! Oh, and in case you're wondering, I have all of this in writing from both companies. One was honest, did the small repair and offered to try and get approval for a new toilet under my warranty. The other, Baker Brothers, came in, diagnosed nothing, lied, offered expensive unnecessary repairs, and left. P.S. The toilet works great. No thanks to Baker Brothers.

Last night, on Labor Day, we had a water main break in front of our house. After the City of Fort Worth determined the break was 4 inches on the house side of the water meter, we called Baker Brothers as it was also determined by our home warranty company that we were responsible for the repair. Although they were not able to come out last night, they did come to our home within the one-hour window they had said they'd show up. The guy looked at the problem, quickly determined the solution and had to do some digging in the grass to reach the pipe to repair it. It turned out the copper seal had snapped and needed to be replaced. Within an hour or two the entire job was done and the water was turned on in our house once again. The guy took great care in making sure he didn't do too much damage to the grass so it looks like minimal service was done to it.

On the day of installation, Cesario and Mike arrived at 9:30AM. They went right to work, removing our old units, inside and out. They then cleaned up, leveled the slab for the outside unit, and installed both new inside and outside units. Once everything was running, they cleaned up any mess they had made. Everything was finished and running when they left at 2:50PM. The new system is working beautifully. Good Job, Guys!

Collected estimates from multiple providers. Baker Bros estimate was lower, the equipment is first rate and the warranty (parts and labor) is twice as long as the next competing estimate. Baker Bros sent two man crew. They arrived on time. They dismantled previous water heater, installed new one and their recommended leak detection system. Job took 2-3 hours to complete. Very satisfied with the results. Writing this review 2 months after job completion. Have had no problems with the new water heater (as expected). On completion of job, they showed me what the City of Dallas inspector would be looking for (Dallas requires new water heater installations to be inspected). Baker Brothers scheduled the inspection on a date convenient for me. The inspection took place 1 week later and the installation passed the inspection. :)

The repair was done and the plumber even showed me how to unclog my drain in the future because he also thought the pricing was crazy. I called Baker brothers to complain about the $180 bathroom sink hair ball removal charge and they too said sorry, but that is the price charged and didn't think it was "unreasonable." I then asked to speak with a manager and got the "voice mail" run around. I also wanted to cancel the monthly "special" service plan and was told I could not because of the contract I signed. I even wrote them a letter to complain. . . Crickets was the reply. HORRIBLE CUSTOMER SERVICE!!!!!!!
Description of Work: Approximately one year ago I had a slow draining sink that I knew was clogged with hair; Baker Brothers plumber came out and charged me $180 to remove a hair clog. I said I thought it was outrageous and (at the time) I was a member of their monthly member where. You get "special" treatment. He said "sorry, I know it is really expensive but them is the pricing,"

I had two issues. One was water pooling next to my house, the other was a slow draining washer. They cleared the clog, which was a dryer sheet. The tech looked at the pool of water, semi guessed a cause, and told me he'd try to snake the line if he had time. He suggested he would need to chip back some mortar on the house and said he would need his boss to come give an estimate. He told me the guy would be out the next morning, as that was the only time I could be available. The next day rolled around and this guy was a no call/no show. Later that day someone called and said he was on the way... I told them I was not home and rescheduled. That was the last time I heard from baker brothers plumbing. The cost was $220+ dollars to snake the line and hem haw around my pooling water problem.

Thank you for your feedback. I do see where we were out in 20103 to give an estimate. I also see where you declined to have any work done. I do apologize that the technician was rude to you. We definitely do not condone that type of behavior. I will make sure that this it addressed by his supervisor. As for our prices, we aren't the cheapest in town nor are we the most expensive. We do however, stand behind our service and products.

Tune-up and put refrigerant in our a/c unit. We have always had good service from Baker Brothers. However, this tech looked at our drip pan and he showed us pictures and said we had mold and we were going to need to get a new unit. Another company said yes our drip pan is rusted but there was no mold and we had him take pictures to show us there was no mold. The service on the unit provided was good other than the false information. The ratings I am giving is based on this one visit the other visits are 'A'. The plumbing services in the past have always been great.
Description of Work: It was a service call because we purchased a service contract from them. They serviced our a/c unit. I am not sure of the service cost because we have used them about 3 times and one time the insurance company paid for it.

Their plumber showed up and fixed both leaks promptly and professionally, they were fairly simple leaks but he went above and beyond to ensure we wouldn't have ANY issues in the future plus their work is guaranteed for a year after. These guys are really good!! We had another leak outside with our water main line and their plumber showed up, knew exactly what was needed, performed the job extremely well, protected our yard as much as possible, cleaned up much better than expected and all our troubles were eliminated. Their pricing is a little expensive BUT - you get what you pay for. With Baker Brothers, you know you get the quality you need to feel confident and peace of mind is worth it.

Decided to replace both of my toilet valves/floats because they were leaking. Seemed easy enough. When I reached down to shutoff the water at the first toilet valve I knew I had a problem. The 10+ year old valve started leaking all over my carpet. Shutting it off did not stop the leaking. I immediately called Baker Bros because I really did not want to go deeper into this, even though I have the knowledge and tools. Okay, I was too lazy to go to Lowes to get the parts. They warned me about the $99. Saturday charge, but I thought - how much more can this really cost? Bottom line - for about an hour worth of work and less than $50 worth of parts it cost me $440. They arrived around 2pm. Next time I go to Lowes I am stocking up on $400 worth of plumbing parts.

Thank you for your feedback. It is most assured that you could have done the work yourself for less cost. As you said, the CSR did let you know about the $99.00 Saturday trip fee up front. The trip fee does not include any repairs. The actual replacement of both stops and supplies was $391.06 and you received your Angie's List discount in the amount of $49.00 bringing your repair total to $342.06. While we are not the cheapest in town, we are not the most expensive either. We offer upfront pricing once the technician determines what needs to be done. At that point, it is your choice whether to have the work done or not. You can rest assured that we offer a quality service with excellent warranties. We know how important your time is, therefore we train our technicians to be as efficient as possible.

Baker Brothers quickly responded to my call about replacing my worn out water heaters. In fact they had two on their truck ready to install. With a $40.00 service call I felt compelled to use them since they were already there. The quote was for $2500.00 which I thought was excessive but assumed I was getting top of the line Rheem water heaters. When I checked the actual price of the water heaters they installed, from a Lowes website, the price was $532.00 each. That's $1064.00 for two water heaters. So I was charged close to $1500.00 for installation and "warranty". I went into the business the next day to ask for a detailed invoice with all the charges. I was told they don't do that. They only charge a "blanket" price. They were insistent that I was covered for six years "bumper to bumper" if anything went wrong with them. THEY'RE WATER HEATERS. They are supposed to last for six years with no problem. I was promised a return of a hundred bucks (never received) and also never received an itemized list of charges. So beware the overcharge for a useless warranty.

Thank you for your feedback. I did pull your work order and saw that we installed two Rheem water heaters. I'm not sure what website you looked at, but Lowes does not sell Rheem water heaters. The price that you paid for the water heaters also included replacing the ball valve, hot and cold water flex lines, the gas flex line, City Permit and Inspection. We have a water heater department that carries water heaters on their trucks so that we are not wasting the customers time by having to make an extra trip to purchase them. I also checked with our accounting department and they did process a refund to your credit card on May 13th. We do have upfront flat rate pricing and do not charge time and materials, therefore, we do not have a breakout of the pricing.

It went really well. I had three faucets with problems. Mark was here from about 1:45-4, within the timeframe we'd discussed, and he suggested that I make sure two of the faucets aren't covered by homeowner's insurance (but he inspected everything and went over in detail what they'd do if it wasn't covered.) He spent a lot of time on the kitchen sink, and very conscientious that I have homeowner's insurance.

Yes, I know this work was done many years ago but what they did to me deserves a late review. My gas hot water heater began to leak on a Friday evening. So I called to have it replaced on Saturday. I requested an energy efficient heater. The phone call and their arrival went great. The tank was not an energy efficient unit. The installers told me this is the only 50 gallon heater they install. That should have had the alarms clanging? however, I could only think of my Wife taking a cold shower on Sunday before church. Oh, the reason I called Baker Brothers was their advertisement on a Christian radio network. This is not an easy install as the heater goes in the attic. (please, no comments on the location!) The installer made the comment, ?I think I just s****** myself?. His helper saw me and whispered. A few minutes later a comment of relief was uttered. I got the bill and was shocked! I knew they charged extra for a Saturday visit, an emergency call, and for the attic. But seriously! The install would not have been worth about $2500 labor even if it had been installed correctly. I can't tell you how many times I have mentioned Baker Brothers only to have other laugh and ask how much I got stuck for. Ok, I was stupid not to get a quote upfront. Yes, I?m a bit too trusting. About a week later the crew came to replace our roof. Before they began the ?foreman? wanted to do an inspection of the attic. He informed me the exhaust vent was not connected to the heater. Yep, the exhaust went directly into the attic. They replaced an energy efficient tank with a smaller inefficient tank. This meant the exhaust port was about 2? further requiring the vent to be forced into place. The two screws they used were insufficient to hold the vent in place. I ended up having to get larger screws and use a lot of aluminum tape to get the vent to hold in place. You may be wondering why I performed the repairs. That is because Baker Brothers was going to charge me an additional $100 to give me an estimate on how much it was going to cost to fix the problem they created. I declined to ever have them step foot on my property again. About a week later Baker Brothers called to see if I had completed the repairs so they could call the city for an inspection...
Description of Work: Replace a hot water tank.

I do apologize that you had an issue with your water heater installation, however, we do not have anything in our system for you. I have gone back through all of the 2009 - current databases and we do not have your name or your address in our systems.

The technician Baker sent over (Shawn) was fantastic and he was particularly thorough. He first performed a leak check across our entire system to make sure the only leak was located in the front yard. Once he verified that, he worked throughout the day to ensure we had service back as quickly as possible, even skipping lunch. If at all possible, I highly recommend asking for Shawn if you need any plumbing work done! He's very knowledgeable, incredible work ethic and took very good care of our home and yard. We originally had someone come out from the home warranty service we have who didn't instill much confidence in their ability which is why we called Baker Brothers. This was a daunting task and the holes they had to dig to get the new pipe in were good size but they cleaned it up very nicely and everything looks better than expected.
Description of Work: Repaired a leak between the city water service meter and the check valve leading up to the home. Apparently the builder didn't use quality fittings and after 9 years, it gave way.

In addition to not getting anywhere with this, the technician broke the fence to the back yard by trying to force it open. I would have expected them to at least try to piece it back together or even apologize, but neither happened. I have read all of the other reviews for this company and agree that they could in theory get the job done, but they are VERY EXPENSIVE and might not have your best interests at heart when they are looking at options.
Description of Work: Had a gas leak somewhere in the house. Technician (Michael C) came out and spent a few hours diagnosing and then finding what I told him was the likely culprit in the first place. After the initial $768.38 assessment (which was simply done without asking for permission to go through with the work), the options came back for him to bury a new line to the pool heater (additional $4800), cap it off the pool line (additional $362.72) or what in my view was the simplest repair the leak closest to the heater. Of course the leak could not be found even though that is where the smell was coming from so the only options were to put in a second line or cap it off. At that point, I asked the technician to leave.

Thank you for your feedback. I pulled the work order and I do see where the work order was signed off to approve the work prior to the technician starting the job. I understand from the technician that your daughter is the one that approved the work to start the gas test and location and then he also spoke to you on the phone since you were not present at the home and you approved for him to dig up the riser and test it. Since the City had turned off your gas it is required by the city for us to run a gas test prior to doing any locating or repairs that are necessary. The technician spent approximately 5 hours on the job trying to locate exactly where the leak was coming from. He pressurized the line and listened for a hissing sound, but since the line is buried underground and is approximately 170' long, he could not hear anything. The only way to locate exactly where the leak is, would be to dig up the entire line. He also dug up the riser and tested it to make sure that the leak was not located on the riser. Although we are not the cheapest in town, we are not the most expensive either. We offer a quality service and excellent warranties. All of our technicians are background checked, drug tested, and go through continuous training. As for the fence, he said when he arrived that it looked like a fence panel was missing off of the fence so he never went through it. He said that he was in the front yard and went on the other side of the house where there is not a fence to get to the back yard. I will be happy to send him back out if you would like so that you can show him what it is you are talking about. Please let me know when would be a good time for you.

I had written a prior review a week ago because I was unhappy that I was charged for a component of the service without being consulted about it. However, I received a call on April 29th from Tamara at Baker Brothers informing me that this was against their policy and that they would be refunding me the cost of this part of the service since I was not advised before it was done. As a result, I have updated my review and would would definitely use Baker Brothers again.
Description of Work: The plumber cleared out a back-up in my main sewer line. This included snaking the line, pulling out some roots, and showing me via a camera where there are some breaks in the older part of the line that is under the house.
