 + -1 moreExcellent - the organic fertilizer works like magic on my grass. I missed getting the beneficial nematodes done last fall and the fleas are bad. Hoping they will be able to apply the beneficial nematodes as soon as we get some rain. I am in Dallas and it is normal to have to wait for them to schedule service in my area, but they are great!

Initially they were very responsive, came out and discussed the work we wanted done, suggested we wait until March when the weather warmed up to do the work (this was in December) which was reasonable. We also told Spriggs that we definitely wanted to start their maintenance program after the sod was installed. John told us we'd have an estimate for the work within a couple of days. This was the end of communication.. I made two calls in January asking for the price of the work with no reply. I even called twice more in March; every time was told John would call me back but I never heard a word from anyone at Spriggs Brothers. I persisted because they came highly recommended from a former customer but apparently things have changed.
Description of Work: Front and back yard tilled, leveled, sodded. Native perennial flower bed design and installation. Was also going to enroll in their organic yard maintenance program.

 + -1 moreIt has been 3 weeks since I originally contacted this company. The office lady told me they serve areas of DFW at a time and they would contact the customer "a day or two" before crews would be in their area. I understand managing their manpower, but they don't provide any updates or communication. The soil needs to have a certain amount of moisture for aeration and its hard to know when to expect service after rains or forecasted rains. I called again a week ago and the lady had no information or was able to communicate an anticipated service date. This company needs to have a better method of communication. Perhaps emailing a tentative schedule, posting one on their website or even facebook. I don't think I should have to contact the business regularly just to get them to my house.
Description of Work: This company offered a spring special for aeration and organic lawn fertilization.

 + 0 moreLast year, when I first signed up with Spriggs Brothers to put down top soil, organic matter, and grass seed, I was a little hesitant in just how the lawn was going to look five months later when grass begins to grow. Much to my pleasure the grass look beautiful and, for the first time ever, not a single weed. If nothing else I thoroughly enjoyed not having any weeds in my grass. I also appreciate the fact that Spriggs only uses organic products because we don't have to worry about keeping our two dogs off the grass until the fertilizer, weed killer, or whatever dissipates in the grass. If you want a company who treats your lawn like their own then you want Spriggs Brothers. And if you want to know more about what grass will grow best and look good longer then you want Spriggs Brothers.
Description of Work: I am in my second year with Spriggs Brothers and they just finished preparing my yard for the coming winter. About every three months of this year, 2013, Spriggs would call me and let me know they would be coming by to put certain things on my yard. I think this year they put organic mater on my yard six times.

 + 0 moreIt’s a family business. There is always someone there to answer your call. I’ve actually seem them on their hands and knees hand trimming things making sure it gets done right the first time. That’s service! They care about what they’re doing!
Description of Work: They do my fertilization, weeding, and mulch. Basically if it has to do with my yard they do it and they have been for about 9 years. They went as far saving a tree in my front yard I thought I was going to lose.

 + 0 moreRepresentative was prompt, friendly and informative. We discussed our lawn's problems and possible remedies that their company could provide. Representative took notes and measurements and promised a quote for various options within a week. It is now 3 weeks later and we've not heard back from Spriggs in any way. We have since chosen a different service provider. Maybe next year. Wish we had had a better experience because I really liked their message and presentation. UPDATE - RESPONSE TO PROVIDER'S RESPONSE: Provider's response is only partially true. When representative visited he did say that it would be 2-3 weeks (at least) before work could be scheduled. However, he did also say that he would provide a quote by the following Friday which was one week after the date of visit. Also, company has never provided the promised proposal. Their statement in their response that "...when we contacted this customer with his proposal, we found out that he had already made other arrangements ..." is inaccurate. I have not been contacted in any way since their visit so the only way they'd know we had gone with a different provider is through my review here. I don't wish to gripe and fuss here. I do believe they are swamped and probably do fine work. I just wanted to post an honest, factual review of my experience with them. We will keep them in mind the next time we entertain quotes for landscaping services here. But, swamped or not, a follow-up of any kind by that promised Friday would have gone a long way to winning our business.
Description of Work: Company visited our property and discussed options for repairing our troubled lawn. Company promised to provide quote for service options within a week. Company failed to provide that quote or any follow-up contact at all. We have since chosen a different direction and a different service provider.

 + 0 moreSee the story above: At this point I would probably use these folks again ... that is if the stuff they put down does the job. I will certainly water, etc. as I am supposed to and time will tell. The guys were certainly prepared to do the job and I really don't have much to complain about in that part. It's just that I sort of feel that they might have tried to take advantage of my us if I hadn't been there. Probably not ... as I feel sure that ahe would have sent them down the road if she didn't think it was right.
Description of Work: When I called these folks concerning an ad that they were running they gave me a price of $350.00 to aerate and fertilize my yard. The ad said for up to 4000 square feet, which is very close to the size my yard actually is. I told them that it was a fair deal and had them set me up for the job. They were here when they were supposed to be and completed the work in a timely manner. However ... the first thing that the young man said to my wife when she opened the door was that they had looked our yard up on the internet and that it was 8000 sq. feet ... thus the price would be nearly doubled. When I came to the door I explained to them that they must have forgotten that there was a house, a large drive way, a large parking pad. a large patio and 2 out buildings covering most of the 8000 feet, and that the remaining yard where they would be doing the work was only 4000 sq.. feet. The young man said that he could do the work for the origional price ... but he wouldn't be able to use the right amount of material. I thanked him for his time and told him to go to his next job and forget about mine. He then said that he would do the right job for what they had quoted me in the first place and I let him do the work. Of course I do not know if they put down the right amount of material, but since there were holes from aeration all over the yard, and the fertilizer seemed to cover everything, I have to assume that they did it right. Don't misunderstand me, the guys did a good job as far as I can tell and they did it right. But I really have to wonder why they told my wife that they couldn't do the job unless the price was doubled, and why they decided tha they could do it for the quoted price when I came to the door.

Description of Work: They did all the care for my lawn, that is listed on their website and also put in a new lawn in my back yard. They returned in 2 weeks to check to see if the lawn came in and was in good condition. I really enjoyed working with them. They were the third one to give me a bid on my project. I will continue to work with them in the future.

Description of Work: We have used Spriggs Brothers Organic Landscaping for many years. I never thought to write a review for Angie's List as I found them before coming to Angie. This family business run by a man and his three sons is top notch. I can't say enough good things about them. Besides excellence in all they do, they are ethical, honest, punctual, and fair. I have always believed that organic gardening was the way to go (a la Howard Garrett and his ilk) but had a difficult time getting the hubby onboard. They were able to explain the process and the benefits in a way I couldn't. They have experience and are knowledgeable in all they do. Services performed over the years has included a variety of services: aeration, top dressing, composting, per-emergent treatment, post-emergent treatment, manual digging of weeds, organic fertilizer, etc. etc.

 + -1 moreThey were easy to work with to schedule, but had to schedule well in advance because of the demand for their services. The quotes and team doing the work were right on time. The supplements put down seemed good enough, and as far as I can tell they put down the correct amounts. I was very pleased that they either swept or blew the over spray off of all hard surfaces. The amount of supplements added was a very reasonable price. The only thing I wasn't happy with was the lawn aeration. Cores should number 6+ per sq ft from what I've read to be effective and the deeper the better. I suspect it was more like 1 per sq ft. Plus, a lot of the cores were very shallow, some not going even half an inch into the ground. Granted my lawn was very compact in places, but that was the reason for having it done after all. In retrospect, I should have clarified my expectations prior to the service being performed. I would rate this quality aspect as a C or D, but put the overall at a B because of the good work done with spreading the supplements.
Description of Work: I had the "full works" package done in the fall for various organic supplements added to the lawn. I also had lawn aeration done at the same time.

 + -1 morePer Spriggs ad, I requested Lawn Aeration Spring Special - they came on time, did all areas of the yard and I was pleased by their professionalism. Regarding responsiveness, I had a bit of delay in scheduling (but not much). I would recommend faster call-backs from their scheduler.

 + -1 moreFrom the time Mr. Spriggs came out the first day for an assessment and to explain the program, to the renewal letter I just got, everything is explained. Any questions, just ask. They have lots of time for education and answering questions.
Description of Work: I have used Spriggs Brothers for about 3 years and my grass gets better each year! I have used the chemical guys in the past and these results are much better. Yes, it takes longer to get there, but I have the peace of mind knowing that pets and grandchildren can play on the yard and not worry about any issues! They are very professional from the person answering the phone (she's so sweet!) to the guys coming to do the work. Mr Spriggs is very knowledgeable and helpful. Their newsletter offers great tips and hints to make things work even better. They keep up with the optimal times to feed the grass/kill weeds so you don't have to. Their programs come with payment options and they explain things very clearly. I will never use anyone else for my yard.

 + 1 moreI have used the Spriggs Brothers for various lawn/landscape needs for the past 10 years. They are always friendly and helpful whenever I have called. I desperately need the Live Oak in our front yard trimmed before we moved out and the new tenant moved into our house. I was also looking for someone to mow our yard weekly for about 5 weeks. I called several other companies and no one wanted to do the lawn for a short period of time. Mrs. Spriggs was extremely helpful and had me scheduled for a yard mowing the next day! Three days later, the trees were trimmed as well. I couldn't be more pleased. This family-run business is top notch. You will not find a nicer, more honest and dependable landscape company anywhere!
Description of Work: Trimming of a large Live Oak tree, and 2 tree-ish shrubs in my front yard. In addition, they agreed to provide 5 weeks of weekly lawn mowing until the new tenant moves into our house.

 + -1 moreMr. Spriggs can be a nice man but uses a little bit a scare tactic in his sales pitch. I wasn't really educated in organic fertilization and didn't realized that they don't use anything to kill weeds, but instead try to make the yard so healthy weeds won't grow in it. I was specific with him about our weed problems and don't recall him telling me that they don't use any type of weed killer. And this is where the relationship ended. I called them several times about the weeds and how my yard looked much worse because of them. Mr. Spriggs came out and informed me that it was due to bald spots in my yard and seemed to get agitated with me because of my expectation and reminded me that he had laid out their services in our first meeting. He then told me it would take 5 years for my lawn to be weed free. He was visibly upset with me and that ended the relationship. The areas of our yard that were weed free did look better than in the past, but I won't do a long term contract at that high a price and have to wait 5 years to see if it works.

My husband suspects the services are a little pricey, but their services are organic and that was most important to me (the vegetable gardener).

They always call me the evening before to let me know when they are going to be out. I like that I can always get a hold of someone on the phone when I have a question or a special concern.

 + -1 moreThey completed the job quickly and efficiently and left me written watering instructions. It is too early to determine the success of their services, but in comparison to other organic companies I have used in the past they were much more informative about their programs and my options. They listened to my concerns and addressed each one individually. They also left me with a wealth of information on the benefits of organic gardening which is beneficial to the environment and especially children and pets. I was left with the distinct impression that they have devoted a great deal of time to research the products they use.
Description of Work: I purchased their premium package that includes 3 dry applications of fertilizer, 4 applications of pre-emergent, 4 foliar fertilization spray applications and 1 law aeration for which I was able to pay half now and half later. I also opted for a treatment of molasses, green sand, lava sand and fescue grass seed. They offer several packages from which to chose.

 + -1 moreThe organic treatments keep my grass thick, healthy and able to be walked on immediately by people and pets. They call prior to treatment to let me know what day they are going to show up. They show up on the day they say they will (unless there is an unexpected change in the weather). If I have any questions, I can call and discuss over the phone or they will meet me at the house.
