Protek Painting & Roofing

Called and scheduled Protek to come and give an estimate on caulk, repair rotten wood and paint our home of almost eleven years. Cory came out and spent a lot of time speaking with me and paying attention to the details my home would need in order to make it look new again. I enjoyed his attention to details and his help with other suggestions on what it would take to correct some of my issues. Although we ran out of time during our consultation, he had to come back out the following day to give an estimate. Spoke with Cory on Good Friday (4-22-11) he said he would email my proposal to my email address. Got nothing over the weekend, called the office on Monday morning and was told that due to Easter weekend give him some time and he would be able to email the quote. After not receiving the quote later in the week, called again and was told he will send it that evening when he gets in and can do "paperwork." Still nothing. I am ready to paint my house and find it unfortunate that his bid never made it to me. I would have liked to do business with him but will not continue to call an ask for a bid!

We chose Protek to paint the interior of our house. Their estimate was competitive and their customer ratings were good. They did a great job of covering the tile, the wood floors and the Kitchen area. Several ceilings and walls required 2 coats due to coverage of a darker color. They honored their original bid even though it cost them more to complete the job. They started on time and finished when they said they would. House looks great.

They arrived sooner than promised to provide the estimate, and they were able to start the work the next day upon my acceptance of the bid. The prep work was excellent, powerwashing and caulking before beginning to paint. They even power washed our pool decking without being asked and with no additional charge. The job was completed within 3 days, and they were very accommodating with my request for a color change once the work had begun. I would definitely recommend Protek to my friends and neighbors, and will use them for future painting needs.

Pro-Tek was AWESOME! Kevin Cheatham was our salesman. He was on-time for the FREE estimate appointment, and was very polite, (a true southern gentleman,) knowledgable, and thorough. He spent several hours walking around the house and making notes of all of the problem areas which needing addressing before they could paint the exterior. We got about five estimates in all, from the larger, more well-known painting companies and Pro-Tek wasn't the cheapest or the most expensive. Prices ranged from $2,500.00 to $$20,000.00. We had squirrels chewing in various areas and didn't want to hurt them, but wanted to deter them from chewing and further and also replace the bad wooden clapboard with Haride plank and Hardie board. (btw...it worked!) First, they removed all of the rotten or damaged wood clapboard and trim and then replaced it with Hardie. They were very precise with their carpentry work. The foreman on our job, Raul, has been with Pro-Tek for over ten years and showed the highest level of expertise and care in working around our home. All of the workers were very respectful of our property and our dense landscaping. NOTHING got damaged or broken during the extended time they were here, (which was due to all of the pre-paint carpentry work which was needed.) Once they repaired all of the wood, they scraped very old English Ivy vine marks off of the siding on the back walls of the house. I never thought they'd get those all off, but THEY DID! We also had a rain gutter which was loose because the wood behind it was rotten, and because it wasn't sitting level, the water couldn't drain properly and caused two small leaks in the gutter, which needed to be replaced. Kevin had a gutter company that he always uses come and replace that bad piece for us. They were VERY reasonable, were in and out in under an hour and it looks great! Once that was completed, they started the prep work to prime everything. It was amazing watching the care they took to protect our home and brick fascade. They covered EACH of all of the 28 windows in the house, and even covered several feet beyond where they really needed to. They totally covered the pool and surrounding area with a gigantic tarp, and they spent a significant amount of time prepping the house for the paint and primer work. Once everything was prepped, they primed and painted the entire exterior. We chose Sherwin Williams DURATION paint, which is very thick and requires extra time and care to apply, but they did a fantastic job and Kevin never tried to talk us out of using that type of paint, (like several of the other companies did when they gave us their estimates and I told them that we wanted Duration.) It lasts longer than conventional paint, but is very thick and thus harder to apply, so it takes longer to paint with that type of product and apparently some companies would rather you get the thinner paint which can be watered-down and SPRAYED onto the exterior of your house. Kevin actually encouraged us to use it, and said that it would lengthen the time before we would have to repaint the exterior again! Imagine that...a PAINT SALESMAN actually trying to save us $$$. :-) They thoroughly caulked around every window and door, and painted the front and back doors. Not one drop of paint ever found it's way onto either one of our porches, (or anywhere else for that matter.) They never seemed in a hurry or appeared to try and cut corners or avoid the tedious detail work. I have several swallow nests under our patio roof over-hang which have been there for nearly 20 years. THey migrate and return to the same nest every year, but I was very afraid that if the paint crew disturbed them, they may not nest there again this spring-2011. Not to worry, though...Raul happily went up the ladder and very carefully placed plastic sheating over and around both nests so they wouldn't be damaged. Then, once they painted the larger area around the patio and above, on the ceiling, they very carefully removed the plastic shield and did all of the close cut-in painting work by hand with brushes. I was SO appreciative of their care and concern over my nests...something that several 'other companies we've used in the past openly said that they thought was rather ridiculious. I even had one salesman from another company, who came to give me an estimate, voluntarily "PROMISE TO REMOVE THOSE UGLY BIRD NESTS!" :-( Raul and his crew were true craftsmen in every sense of the word, and seemed to work well together, were very respectful of our home, property and landscaping, were extremely neat and quiet while they were working and responded immediately to any of my concerns, (and NOT in a 'put out' fashion either.) Whenever Raul, (or I,) noticed something that wasn't right, or not done up to his, (or my,) standards, he would immediately re-do it to perfection, with a smile on his face all the while. It's quite obvious that he loves his work, which shows in the final product he delivers. They were neat as they worked AND also thoroughly cleaned-up the site at the end of each day, and I didn't have to pick up after them at all, (which was a pleasant change from the last time we had work done on the exterior of the house last year and I was running around in the dark, like a chicken with my head cut off, trying to grab all of the trash before it blew into my neighbor's yards and made them mad at me!) When Raul's crew took a lunch break, they sat in their van and ate, were done in 20-30 minutes flat and right back to work. It was nice to see a crew with such a good work ethic! Although most of the workers didn't speak 'great' English, Raul was easy to communicate with and was always on site and present when the crew was working, so we didn't experience the 'usual' communication barrier that we've so often expereinced in the past with other contracting companies. Kevin Cheatham, co-owner and our salesman, called every day to check on things, notify me of schedule changes or weather-related issues, and to make sure everything was progressing well AND to my expectations and satisfaction. I VERY MUCH appreciated the attention and care that he gave, even after the contract was signed, the deposit check was given and the work was well underway, which is when most companies do their 180 degree Jeckyll and Hyde act. We WILL DEFINITELY BE USING PRO-TEK again! It was SO refreshing to have a salesman not try and discourage us from using, what's billed as, a 15 YEAR paint! Several others came to do estimates, and when we told them we wanted Sherwin Williams Duration, they tried to dissuade us from using it. Whether this paint actually lasts 15 years or not, our house looks AMAZING, you can't tell where the Hardie stops and the clapbopard begins, they did a terrific job getting rid of the vine marks, they removed ALL of the old caulk and totally re-caulked everything, the front and back doors look gorgeous, and my shrubs, flowers and bushes didn't suffer so much as one broken limb! We wre so pleased with the work we offered that Kevin leave his commercial sign in our yard for an extended period of time to give him a bit of extra publicity. Being the gentleman that he is, though, Kevin left it up for about 10 days, and then quietly removed it one day. Pro-Tek is MORE THAN adequately insured and bonded, does AWESOME work and you won't get a better price, especially considering the high quality of work that they will provide for you. I STRONGLY RECOMMEND them if you need exterior carpentry, gutters and paint work. (I'm sure their interior work is just as good, and we will be using them in the near future for that, too.) We've tried some of the rest...PRO-TEK's THE BEST! :-)

The two painters did a good job overall. It was time-consuming, tedious work to remove wall paper. They did a good job of repairing the hole in the wall and of texturing the wall. It's a good idea for the homeowner to be present throughout the project in case there's any question or suggestion. I am happy with the end result. I am glad I asked for a primer coat first then 2 paint coats on top of the primer. Protek also did extra work not required by the contract (painting the bench area in front of the windows and the base moulding in the breakfast area).

Pricing and timing were as promised; no surprises at the end. Everything was thoroughly explained from the beginning with different options presented to suit my budget. Work was detailed and meticulous, no complaints.

The guys from Protek Painting did a FANTASTIC job!!! I was having them apply a light colored paint over walls that in some rooms were very dark, and when they were finished the house looked like the light colored paint was original; no shadows, streaks or traces of some of the weird colors they were covering. When they did the final walk-thru of the job, they were so thorough that they found a couple of small drips that I didn't even notice. Where they replaced a section of drywall in the garage, it is impossible to tell that it has been patched. They are by far the most careful contractor I've used as far as minimizing the mess they make and making sure that they clean everything up afterward. Their entire crew was very professional and polite. I plan to use them again for the exterior of my home and have recommended them to friends.

They were very prompt. They covered everything that didn't move! I had to empty-out my formal hutch and display cabinet because they were going to paint behind there. They were great with the dogs (3) and the dogs totally ignored them after the first "sniff". They were great at cleaning up and we thought they were great.

Kevin Cheatham completed an inspection of my home based on the aforementioned job description. To date I have not received an estimate or any contact from Mr. Cheatham or anyone with Protek Painting.

I asked them to do an estimate to paint 2 bedrooms and a bathroom. He was a late to the appointment on 7/26, but that was OK. However, we waited about a week for an estimate and never received anything, so I called back to ask about it. I was told she would check on it - never heard back. So, I called again on 8/10. They apologized and said they assumed it had been too long because the estimators had all been in Mexico, and never sent it. I asked them to go ahead and send, so she said it would be by EOD the next day - on 8/11. On 8/12 I sent a follow up email. As of 8/13, still no response. My assumption is they must have plenty of work and don't need the job?!

Horrible! They need to specify that they'll do work within a 5 to 10 mile radius of Allen and at times that are convenient where they're not in traffic.

I was under some time pressure and Protek arranged to do the work on my schedule. They were prompt and professional, and did quality work. A month later they were in the neighborhood, noticed some touch up work was missed on my house, and did the work when I wasn't home. And while they were there, they noticed my back gate latch needed repair, so they took care of that too without even mentioning it to me. My experience with them was first rate, and I'd use them again in a heartbeat.

Quick and efficient-also high quality.

I made a request for quote on 4/19/10. I needed the following work performed: - interior paint, all walls, 2 colors - repair one section of water damage on the ceiling - exterior paint, 1 color - replace some trim boards that had rot I was buying and closing on the home on 5/14 so I said I wasn't in a big hurry. I guess that was my mistake. Kory was very professional, courteous, and helpful on the phone. He seemed to want my business. But after two weeks and three different excuses later and I hadn't received a quote, I decided that I didn't feel comfortable with a contractor that didn't deliver on promises. He probably would've done a good job. We've all been burned by contractors not being responsive after the contract is signed. Doing it before the contract is signed is just a bad omen that I can't ignore.

The project went great. Kevin was very easy to work. His workers were very professional. They did a superb job. They even fixed a clogged gutter on one corner of my house free of charge. I would definitely recommend Protek Painting to anyone looking to have the their house painted.

Protek did an excellent job. I called to get a quote and Kevin was able to come out the next day. Kevin spent about 15-20 minutes walking the property with me... taking notes on what we wanted painted, what carpentry repairs we needed done, explaining the painting process. Very thorough and after a few minutes, he was able to provide a detailed quote on the spot which included a folder of information on the company and testimonials. Because of a cancellation, Protek was able to come out the following week. Kevin showed up the first morning to show the crew want needed to be done and they pretty much took it from there. The guys were incredibly thorough in prepping the house for painting... fixing the damaged siding, scraping old paint, power sanding the trouble areas, caulking all gaps between the wood and brick, priming where necessary, covering up the brick and windows with a combination of tape, paper, and plastic to make sure nothing else got painted. Kevin said that they usually took a full day to prep and a day to paint... well these guys spent two full days prepping our house. They didn't speed up and skip things to meet some predefined deadline, they just did what needed to be done. Painting day went smoothly and everything turned out great. Kevin came by the following day to check that the painting was done correctly and had his guys came back that evening to fix a few spots that he wasn't happy with. Paid the full amount only after we were satisfied (no down payment). Excellent experience overall. Kevin and his crew took pride in making sure the house looked as good as possible.

Kevin came out in late October and had a look at the house and provided us a quote. It was very detailed and provided a few options for some issues around our back door. The issues they saw with the wood was very specifically detailed. Fast forward two months and we called them up to do the work. They were able to get us on the schedule soon, and were very agreeable to come do a second meeting prior to starting since we had waited a few months since they last came out. They were scheduled to start on Tuesday, but Monday they had a change in schedule and were able to start that day. We met that afternoon to confirm colors, and the house was complete the next day. The crew did a great job of keeping the brick, walkways, and flowerbeds free of paint splatter. We mentioned before the final walk-through that there was some paint on the brick around the front door, and Kevin came out and cleaned it up, even though he was probably correct in saying it was there previously. It likely just stuck out since everything was so nice now. Protek went above and beyond our expectation in quality, speed, and follow through. We are very happy with the work they did, and would recommend them to anyone looking for a painter. The price was also the second lowest of the four we received, but the level of detail well surpassed the lowest bidder.

Great price - the work was well done and completed quickly - so I was only without my kitchen for 2 days.

Very professional service. Kevin quoted the job and checked in regularly to make sure all was well. The guys were courteous and polite. The work is beautiful, could not ask for more.

I got quotes from several companies, two from Angies List. Protek was the most reasonably priced quote and was a firm fixed price. A Protek rep came out and we were over the job in detail, determined all the tasks, colors, paint brands, how it was going to be applied etc. Five different colors are required and they used the exact brand paint and primer that I specified and the paint was applied by brush as I requested. Working from 40 foot ladders, the house is very tall, the surface was cleaned, sanded, repaired and chalked. The team was very efficient, worked 10 to 11 hours a day and finished in three days. The paint job was great, the five colors looked good, separating out Victorian detail, we were pleased with the job. The Protek rep came out the next day and we went over the job and no problems were found. I gave him a check for the original quote.

I submitted a request for services on the company's website. It took 6 days to get a response. The appointment for a price quote was set up and took place at the assigned time. However, I never received the promised quote. I called after a week and was told he got very busy but promised the quote via email that day. Once again the quote was never received!

The ProTek team did a great job. We have a two story house so most of the work was done on ladders. The paint on the house was peeling off in several places. Some of the wood used by the original builder was a low grade and had started to rot. ProTek replaced all the rotten boards with cedar and painted the exterior of the house. We wanted to have the house painted the same color but we had no idea what color was originally used. ProTek took a sample of the existing paint to the paint store to get an exact match. They were fast and efficient. Great job. Would hire them again.

The paint crew showed up on time and ready to work. They worked until the sun went down and finished all the work in three days.
