Please read below before doing business with Marti Hart / All Star Glass and Mirror. Marti is the worst contractor that I have ever dealt with in my entire life. We were renovating our master bathroom and contacted All Star Glass and Mirror to get a bid to do the shower glass enclosure. Marti Hart arrived on time and quoted a fair price. We decided to engage his services. When the tiling was about 75% done, Marti came back to take the official measurements for the glass. We paid him 50% of the total cost up front ($650). His listing on Angies List shows that he accepts credit cards, but he definitely does not. We recluctantly wrote him a check. Read on to learn why you should never, ever pay a contractor with a check. He gave us a window of time that the glass would be ready. I called him on the first day of the window to see if we were on track. At this point, all of the bathroom remodel was complete. We were just waiting on the glass. It was not ready then. It was not ready on the last day that he quoted either. Finally, four days after he originally anticipated, he calls my wife. He told her that he was in the process of a divorce and that his wife froze his bank account. He needed us to pay the other half so he could go pick up the glass from his supplier. At this point, I figured I had two options: 1. Tell him no and he would disappear off the face of the earth with my $650.2. Risk the other $650 to get the job complete. Again, reluctantly, my wife wrote the check for the remainder. As part of his persuasion for us to do so, he left "the title to his $28,000 truck." He left our house and went to get the glass. He returned shortly (we were temporarily relieved) with the glass. He goes to work installing it. After a couple of hours, he brings my wife in and tells her how the walls are so out of square that the glass doesn't fit. He said the glass will need to be re-cut and tempered. She already notices several unneeded holes that he had drilled into our tile. He leaves. I get home that evening and find that the "title to his $28,000 truck" is actually a title to an old Chrysler van... that's not even in his name. This gets me all worried and I start doing some research. I find a review on another site that refers to him as a criminal and is currently on parole. Great... I start to do my own research on the Collin County Records site. Here's a taste of his rap sheet: Forgery of a Financial InstrumentPosessions of Drugs - 3rd Degree FelonyTheft by CheckTheft of Stolen PropertyTraffic Violations: 11Hot Checks: 15Small Claims suitDivorce: 3 I call him back shortly from work. I'm pretty disappointed. He came out to measure the everything. His measurements, by all means, should have accounted for any imperfections in walls. Are there any walls in any house that are perfectly square / level? He promises me that it will only be a few days. For the next 8 DAYS I call or text him almost every day. Finally he shows up to do the work. Knowing what I know now, I send my wife and son out for the morning and I stay at the house armed. He brings a partner with him that seems like just as much of a stand up guy. They work for almost three hours and finally get the glass installed. For the last hour, I stand in the bathroom and watch them. He continues to complain about how all of the fault lies on my "crooked walls." He also blames the tile installers. The tile had already been installed when he measured. So I finally have my shower glass installed. He drilled THREE UNNCESSARY HOLES in my brand new tile that he called normal and inevitable. They offered to fill them in with grout. I figured they'd done enough at this point and sent them on their way. On his way out, he asks for the title to his "truck." I give him the title to the old van and say: "It's not a truck and it's not your title, but here it is." He says "Well, it's still worth a lot more that that shower glass!" Now that's customer service... I cringe for anyone who engages Marti to do glass work (or anything else for that matter) without reading this review first. The most disappointing thing is that he can create a new company and be back doing the same thing again soon without blemishes. Avoid at all costs. UPDATE: I completely forgot to mention that once the glass was installed, two of the three panels were crooked and unlevel. Marti would blame this on the walls, but again, he should have accounted for that in his measurements.
Description of Work: We contracted Marti Hart / All Star Glass and Mirror to install a custom three panel frameless heavy glass shower enclosure.
