Quick visit pointed out several items in the house that need to be repaired and some were not up to code. Joe has a keen eye in seeing what is wrong and how to fix it. He supplied an estimate and it seems very reasonable to get everything fixed up. I will be calling him back soon to have this work completed.

Imagine our surprise when his bill was under estimate! He was also very tidy and worked well with the installer and his assistant. We are in the process of remodeling a bathroom, and recently Joe came to check the new hot water heater. He wouldn't charge for the half-hour he was here (I think he was sympathetic to anyone who has to remodel a bathroom!).
Description of Work: We were having new heating/air conditioning units installed, and one required new wiring. Mr. Rutherford came out, looked at the work to be done, and gave an estimate. Our HVAC installer contacted him and they co-ordinated their work. He showed up on time and worked well with the installer. When the installer fired up the one unit, some electrical part was faulty, so we called Joe, who left another job to come replace the bad-from-the-factory part so our installer wouldn't have to return the next day.

As I have said Mr.Rutherford knows electricity but has little personal skills. His approach is; Sir, you're just the future homeowner; so let's leave the electricity to the professionals. He never apologized for screwing up, offered to take 'something' off the bill,or throw in an extra plug or something. Lastly, I told his son, who was helping him, that I want the 6-10inch pieces of copper-wire that were snipped off and left over - there was a bundle sitting in a drawer - when I turned my back son told his father, Joe told him to get them (wire bits) and put them in his truck which he did. I assumed I paid for the wire and it was mine to do as I pleased.... My wife told to let it go....
Description of Work: Mr.Rutherford is a very knowledgable elctrician but lacks interpersonal skills. My wife and I were told that when the stud walls were up on our new house we could go around and mark out where we wanted plugs, switches, dimmers etc.etc.; Mr. Rutherford basically told us he was "Going off the blueprints.(BP's)" We tried to explain that the BP's were generic and if nothing else they were over a year old and it would have been nice to be asked one-last-time for our input but NO "I'm going off the BP's is what we got as an answer. Our contractor finally got him to bend a little. Now the first thing I notice was out of four floor plugs (on the BP) one was miss placed by almost six feet and if it weren't for the skills of Marc Hellenberger(sp?) of PREMIER STAINS who fixed the 6ft.x1ft. SCAR the resetting left, our house would have been ruined. Also we had to move our kitchen island two inches over to cover the missplaced electric wire, coming out of the concrete for the island. Next Joe wire for two garage doors that would travel across the ceiling when the "BP's" clearly showed roll-up doors. Now we have two small retangular plates lto look at on our poolroom ceiling. The "BP's" called for three tray ceilings with rope lights. We were going to get ONE and it was going to be placed on the wrong tier (tray) until I said something. Then Joe starts telling me I'm wrong about my house - the house I've been drawing again and again for three years. Wrong until I said lets look at the BP's over by the fireplace; He quickly said, No, lets look at MY BP's over in the kitchen - like I was trying to trick him with another [newer] set. I also asked for multiple dimmer switches but Mr. Rutherford said that he didn't bid for all that work. So I settled on just three dimmers for my rope lights up in the tray ceilings -- DIDN'T GET ONE dimmer.! However we have 8 or 9 CAN LIGHTS (Appearently his favorite) in our living room. There's more but I'll stop here.

Response from Rutherford Electric
For starters Rutherford Electric was hired by a General Contractor and all contractors are to follow blueprints as well as follow all electrical codes. He did in fact give Ireland's several extras he wired in floor heaters not on the prints for free, he added 3 extra circuits in kitchen for free, he added lights in garage for free over sink, outlets and switches for rope lights in kitchen over cabinets were free, under counter lights were added for free. Hmm, you got nothing for free. Also he stated about covers on ceiling we were told in the beginning they were overhead electric doors. No one said roll up doors. (deleted member name) needs to realize when you bid a job by a print you limit your money to this job. As far as the floor plug. He was there when we were putting them in and was checking them as we went and he ok'd the layout
