I called around and Dennis was the only one who got back to me. We set up an appointment to go over the job. He arrived as promised. I told him what I wanted, he had a few suggestions too. We agreed on a price and a start date. He gave a written proposal and started on time. I picked out fixtures and tile at Lowe's. He picked up just what I asked for. The job was completed to my satisfaction, in a reasonable time.
Description of Work: I wanted a walk-in shower where a bathtub was. Dennis removed the tub and surrounding drywall. He installed the proper plumbing, tile, and sliding door.

Mr. Gennis Kerlin is very good. He is very fast to respond. He does good work for a very fair price. He is honest. He did some painting on the outside and it was very good. He is good at what he does. He is a carpenter. I have used his carpentry services a lot. He replaced some siding on the barn that had rotted out. He also has the knowledge in several other things.
Description of Work: I used WDRP Home Repairs to repair my barn and to do some repair work outside of the house. Last time, they repaired some rotted wood in the front of my house.

Dennis unbruised my ego when he said he was the hardest door he had installed. I attempted to install this French Door myself, but what made it extremely difficult was the lining up the 3 latches on each side lite door. After giving up, I called Dennis and he was able to plum, level, and make the doors fit perfectly. Dennis had a great sense of humor and was honest and reliable on the work that had to be done. Dennis was very accommodating and provided feedback on how the trim and other concerns I had. He kept the workplace clean. I hope to use Dennis' help in the future for other projects at my house.

What we really liked about working with him was that he was totally willing to help us save money. He had some doors from another project that would suite our needs so he provided them as part of his bid. Besides his awesomely competitive pricing he saved us a bundle on the doors. We'll definitely be contacting him again for future projects.
Description of Work: Dennis took out a small window in our dining room. He cut out the hole for the new doors which involved our exterior brick wall. He moved a light switch to the left of the new doors, and put in a new double wide header for the French doors. He replaced the threshold on the doors and installed them. He put some extra insulation about the door before he put the drywall on. Then he put a new door frame (primed) on and put any missing brick back in.

My house was damaged by hail shortly before closing on the sale. I had a heckuva time even finding anyone to do the miscellaneous jobs required. Dennis responded promptly, turned the estimate around in 24 hours, met with the buyer on a weekend to confirm the scope of work, and got it done on time and to the buyer's complete satisfaction. Great, prompt service.

Dennis is very thorough and detail oriented professional. Dennis works till the job is finished, though he needs to be given some latitude if a larger job delays a start by a day or two. He generally shows up on the job mid-to late morning and likes to work till pretty late. I assume he is handling other aspects of his business as he is always coming from one job and going to another. Usually have to wait on him to get to you to start a job. Works smoothly and effectively, getting a lot done in the time he is there. Professional journeyman, cleans work area up daily, and is easier than some when working in an occupied house. Dennis has experience with some high end homes and has reasonable suggestions for improving the outcome of the job. Craftsman worthy of respect. On the job he is direct to the work once he understands what you want to do. If you engage him in conversation, he is interesting, iconic and an intelligent personality. Appropriately Central Texas. Not sure however, if this gets a chit-chat factor added into your next job or not.
Description of Work: We have used Dennis for multiple jobs. He refinished a room previously and installed roofing components this time.

Dennis did a really good job for us on this room completion and also on a modification to our kitchen island. He is really personable and pleasant to have around. Note that the cost I've stated is approximate as my husband paid the bills but I have the Angie's List membership! The work was done as expected: Dennis advised us on installing the insulation ourselves then took on the task of completing that nasty work when we ran out of time. He was conscientous about protecting our supplies, like not wanting to leave the drywall sitting outside in case it rained (fat chance this year, but it was good to know he was thinking about it). He got the drywall and tape/mud work done in good time and the work is well done. Dennis was good about letting us know when he would or would not be working and also anticipated completion dates of components. Dennis was really good about working with us on payment expectations, like when he expected to be paid for things in reasonable advance so we could review the work and be ready to pay without last-minute scrambles. I wouldn't hesitate to have Dennis come back and do additional work around our place. In reference to comments from other reviewers, Dennis can be irrevererant in discussion but I never felt insulted or demeaned, just amused! He's a real personality and we enjoyed having him around. We've had plenty of morose, downer-types come work at our house and would much prefer to get a couple of laughs while someone is working on our property.

Dennis said he would come by and take care of any odds and ends that needed to be done on my mother's house and he did just that! My elderly mother felt very safe with him around, in fact I think she wanted to adopt him!!
Description of Work: Replace rotted wood and painted the shed behind my mothers house. Put down spouts where gutters where just hanging above the ground. Fixed fence post, moved heavy limbs from backyard and hauled them off, replaced door knob and put a dead bolt on back door to garage.

Dennis is a one man show, but he gets the job done. He takes his time to think things out. I had Dennis remove a brick fireplace and brick chimney then frame in a 6' x 3'-6 sliding window, with an added overhang roof. Dennis got there late because he said he was bidding projects, I don't have a problem with that. He worked till dark some nights. Overall completion was excellent, cleanup was excellent. Price was excellent.
Description of Work: Dennis is a craftsman. He takes pride in his work. Any questions he asks the owner what they would like to do, and/or Dennis suggestions things.

I found Mr. Kerlin on Angie's List and placed a call. He answered immediately and a time was set up for him to come by. He carefully examined the damage and made recommendations as to what he felt should be done. I agreed with his assessment and about a week later the project was done. I'm extremely pleased with the results.
Description of Work: Mr. Kerlin performed major repair work on my barn. He added siding to some areas, secured the siding in other areas, re-secured the gutter, and caulked anyplace that would have allowed leaking into the barn. After he was finished with the above, he carefully and thoroughly applied two coats of paint, going to great lengths to ensure that the new color matched the old.

Dennis is a very friendly fellow and is straight up in his dealings. He and his brother are artists with drywall, also very innovative with carpentry. They usually will not start work till after 11 am and will generally leave around 4pm but in the time they are there, they really get a lot of work done. They get more work done in 4 to 5 hours, than many larger crews get done all day. Ours was a very large insurance job and they had to deal with our mortgage company's delays, with the checks and they were patient.
Description of Work: Replaced water damaged drywall in all rooms of our house, as well as doing all the floating and texturing, trimmed in all the windows, hung 3 doors and their trim, smoothed kitchen ceiling & relocated attic access panel.

I called Dennis and he came out the next day to look at this beam. He quoted me $650 for the whole job (which was $350 less than the previous quote I received). I called him back that day to say "let's go!" -- he arrived on Thursday, right when he said he would, and got to work. After all his jacking and sawing and banging, my floor was more level than before, and it feels sturdy - no more bouncing. Dennie encouraged me to see his work for myself, so he loaned me his coveralls and I crawled under the house to inspect his work -- a great job indeed. Dennis was a pleasure to work with (what a character -- I'd like to apprentice with him sometime) - and I look forward to my next project that involves him. I highly recommend him.
Description of Work: I had a rotted-out 6-foot long beam under my old 1941 house, leaving the adjoining floor joists and wall studs mostly unsupported. Dennis replaced the beam and now my house doesn't bounce anymore!

This home remodel was quite an ambitious project. We were trying to open up a 1984 ranch style home that was dark as a cave. This typical style ranch consisted of two perpendicular hallways approximately 5' wide, one of which was from the entry, and the second hall ran the length of the home, connecting bedrooms and baths. The LVL beams were very large and heavy, and Dennis and Jimmy were able to wrestle them into the attic, sandwich them into place, and suspend the ceiling joists from them. This allowed the removal of one bedroom and the complete opening of our living room, and dining room, and the more than double the space in that dining room. We now have one great large room encompassing approximately 1200 square feet. This also allowed for a wonderful view of our two acre riverfront property, as well as a lot of light into the area. Project was to take approximately 4 weeks, and they came in on time and on budget. I would highly recommend them.
Description of Work: Dennis and his brother demo'd approximately 120 linear feet of interior and exterior walls, almost all of which were weight bearing, installed 16" LVL beams stretching up to 30' in length. These beams were used to support the ceiling and roof of our home where the walls once did. He installed 3 French doors, 2 exterior wrought iron doors, and 5 fixed glass windows. He also replaced all necessary sheet rock, taped and floated and ready for painting. One other item, with only 8 foot ceilings, we created an approximately 9 X 9 recess in our master bedroom that raised our ceiling up almost 18" in which we will be installing our ceiling fan.

I found WDRP through a leaflet left at my door. I invited three companies to quote the job based on a very general design concept. Of all the companies Mr. Kerlin of WDRP was the most cooperative in his willingness to work with me in the design and execution of the work. I have many years experience in design and construction and I'm very detail oriented so I was looking for someone who would have the patience and flexibility to work with me. Mr. Kerlin fit the bill exactly. When Mr. Kerlin picked up the rough cedar he protected my interests by insisting that the lumberyard replace some of the pieces. During the course of the work he was easy to get in touch with when he was not on the job. He carefully coordinated his work schedule with me to assure that I would be at the job site as I requested. He completed the work promptly and cleaned up the site well. This was a "no fuss - no muss" project and I plan to use WDRP again in the future.
Description of Work: Demolished and hauled away an existing structure and built a replacement Patio Cover/Screen. Replacement Cover was built to my design. Mr. Kerlin picked up and transported to the job site the materials that I ordered and paid for. The construction included flashing and weather proofing the Patio Cover roofing where it joined the existing wall. The structure is natural finish, rough cedar. Mr. Kerlin suggested numerous details to improve the appearance of the structure and to conceal the connections.

Dennis was a referral from a friend. I called him and he returned my call promptly. He was able to come the next day and gave us a free estimate. In detail he told us exactly what needed to be done, about how long the job would take and the cost. Because he was a referral and the cost was reasonable we went with him and I'm so glad we did. It was a messy job, but he would clean up after himself everyday and he finished in a fashionable time. He had a great sense of humor and we looked forward to him coming each day! He did a wonderful job and we will use him again.
Description of Work: We had extensive damage to our ceilings due to mold. Dennis did a wonderful job replacing the drywall and matching the old ceiling. He also built a new air return closet for us and did a great job matching the paint. He fixed our plumbing problem which caused the mold in the first place and replace all the air ducts in our home.
