The estimate Dennis gave was for labor and materials and was lower than I had imagined so we made the appointment. He showed up with his daughter (who did all the interior painting) and for two days they worked with no breaks or complaints and knocked out every project with a smile and professionalism. I couldn't be happier with this company. His demeanor and overall outgoing attitude was very refreshing. I would rate them beyond an A and I will not hesitate to call him for any future project and will not hesitate to recommend him to anyone.
Description of Work: I called up Dennis and asked him to come out and give me a quote for some repairs around the house as we are getting ready to put it on the market. He came out and looked at everything I needed done which included repairing wood laminate flooring, ceramic tile flooring(broken and unfinished tiles), painting a high vaulted stairwell and stair kicks, and chimney. We mentioned some quarter round being added under the sink cabinets and he threw that in for free.

They were very good. The price was very reasonable. I interviewed several people and I liked them the best. They were just very clear about what they were going to do and they did it exactly the way they said they would. They were polite and friendly and it was all good.

A few weeks ago, Dennis came out and looked at everything and gave us a very fair estimate - significantly less than his competitors. He answered all of our questions clearly, and everything he predicted about how things would look and how much it would cost ended up being right. There were no surprises. We had a tough time getting things arranged because of our work schedules, but Dennis worked with us and did the work at a mutually convenient time. On the back porch, he used much higher quality materials with the woodwork and back pillars than the original builder had used. He replaced the wood around the door, cleaned the rust off the door, and painted everything perfectly. He paid close attention to detail and made our once wood-rot and rust ridden back porch look better than brand new (because of superior materials and craftsmanship). We had previously been told there was no way to feasibly repair our cabinet and that we would have to buy a new one (which would have cost almost as much as Dennis charged for everything he did). He cleaned up the cabinet and added very nice wood trim, which totally covered the damage. The trim perfectly matches the cabinet, and it looks great. It also saved us hundreds of dollars. I asked Dennis about the front pillars, and he told me he could repair the damage and use the same quality materials he used in the back. I was impressed with his workmanship and how the back porch looked, so I asked him to quote me a price. Once again the price was very fair (and obviously a fraction of the cost of bricking the pillars). He came back the next morning and did the work, and it looks every bit as good as the back porch. These were the highlights, but he also flawlessly reinstalled the towel rack, repaired the fence, and installed the bathroom sink. We couldn't be happier with Dennis' work, and he will be the first contractor we call for all home repairs.
Description of Work: We bought a foreclosed home, and the previous owners had allowed their dog to severely damage a kitchen cabinet and much of the woodwork on the back porch. Over time, the elements had also rotted the wood pillars in the front and back and caused rust to accumulate on the back door (even though the house was only about 5 years old). We hired Dennis primarily to take care of the back porch and cabinet, but since we were hiring a handyman to do these repairs, we also asked him to repair the back fence which was falling down and change out a bathroom sink and repair a towel rack that had come out of the wall. Our original plan was to brick the pillars in the front, but hassles with getting HOA approval made us consider simply repairing the wood. Dennis ended up doing this as well.

Mr. Kerlin arrived around 9:15 am and examined the door. After discussing the details of the project with me, he immediately went to Home Depot to buy the necessary materials. While there, he called to discuss the types of wood available and their costs. Upon returning, he stayed with the job untl it was done, leaving around 7 pm.
Description of Work: This project involved repairing and making operational a garage door on my barn. The door was wood, had several rotted panels, and could no longer be opened. My original intent was to simply replace it. Mr. Kerlin examined the door and told me he could save it by replacing the rotted panels, installing guards to keep the rain from getting underneath the new ones, and giving it all a solid coat of paint. In addition to the above, Mr. Kelin also repaired the springs and greased the tracks, and now the door can be lifted and lowered without any problem. All this he accomplished in one day. Mr. Kerlin has done several projects for me and I have never been disappointed. He readily explains what he wants to do and why. He carefuly chooses materials for the project at hand, often saving the customer money in the process. Replacing the entire door would have cost me at least twice as much as Mr. Kerlin charged. I am in the habit now of always contacting him first when any project needs to be done.

We had several miscellaneous repairs to be done. WDRP called back the same day I contacted them, and Dennis came within a day or two. His estimate was very reasonable. He explained our options for several of the repairs and the different supplies that would be needed based on what we chose to do. He got paint that matched the trim perfectly. He completed all the work in a couple of days and cleaned up beautifully. He took away all the old wood that was replaced and swept up all the debris. He was courteous, professional and punctual. We would use him again, and recommend his work to others.

Dennis was very efficient. He replaced the Air Conditioner quickly even though it surprisingly involved evicting a Mommy and baby squirrel that surprised Dennis when he removed the old air conditioner unit. (They are fine, they relocated to a nest In the large Ash tree in my front yard) Dennis replaced siding, repaired the corner of the house that was attacked by a tree branch, replaced boards around the windows that were weathered and rotting, and caulked and painted the repairs. Dennis repaired the bathroom ceiling. He removed drywall and replaced it, and he painted the ceiling. Dennis also replaced the weather stripping around the front door.
Description of Work: An Air Conditioner window unit was replaced on the second story of the house. Exterior repairs including replacing siding, repairing the corner of the house that was attacked by a tree branch, replacing boards around the windows that were weathered and rotting, and caulking and painting the repairs. Repaired bathroom ceiling, removed drywall and replaced it, then painted the repairs.
His price was very reasonable. He brought all the neccessary tools and supplies. The only additional item I had to purchase was a scheet of drywall. He thinks out of the box and finds a way to repair items instead of just replacing them. He was very neat and cleaned up after himself and was a gentleman. His work was very professional and he pays great attention to detail. He utilized some supplies that I already had to keep the cost down, the total cost was inclusive of all labor and supplies and came to just under $2000. I plan to have him back to repair the garage door soon.
Description of Work: He was hired to do a number of things in my home including fixing my exterior porch door and caulking 9 windows. He also painted the interior of my home and installed a chair rail. He repaired 2 bath sinks. He repaired a delapitated window sill. He also installed ceramic tile backsplash in the kitchen and 2 baths. He hung 2 curtain rods and informed me how to do so. He renovated my bedroom closet and showed me how to make the space more usable. He reapaired my gate and latch, and installed shelving and cabints in my garage. He even created and built a playscape for my cats!

Dennis responded quickly, gave an on-target assessment of the damage and an estimate. Dennis is honest, direct, and a great guy that cares about his work and inspires confidence. He performed the repairs to perfection, installed a new deadbolt lock, and gave me tips for "door defense" and even fashioned 3 wooden doorguards which I am using. He was a pleasure to deal with and made a trying situation much easier to deal with!

We are very pleased with his work. He prepared well for the job. He was organized and did not leave a mess when finishing for the day. He completed the entire job in a short period of time and we would hire him again. He wasn't always there at 8 every morning, therefore the B, but he did call when he could not make it at all. Overall we would recommend him and use him again.
Description of Work: Patched all cracks and holes in the drywall, taped and floated where necessary and prepared the areas for painting. Painted walls, ceilings, all trim work for two rooms. Suggested to us that since we were painting the walls, the ceilings needed painting also. He brought us samples of paint to choose from and he picked up the paint for the job.

I first noticed the problem when I went to put mail in the mailbox and it almost came all the way off its post. I immediately contacted Dennis Kerlin. He came out at the first opportunity and quickly got the new installed. As always, he did an excellent job.
Description of Work: Mr. Kerlin installed my new mailbox for me after the old one, which had been fixated to a block of wood on top of the post, had rotted loose from its foundation. He replaced the wood with metal and attached the new mailbox so securely that I have never had any problems with it.
Mr. Kerlin had done an excellent job on a prior occasion so I immediately contacted him to do the work this time as well. He came out to do an estimate and it was he who noticed the problem with the gutter downspout. Mr. Kerlin explained that without an extension I could have foundation problems from too much water seeping under the house. Mr. Kerlin arrived on time, did a professional job in all areas, and got everything done in one day. He is definitely the person I think of now whenever repairs or projects need to be done.
Description of Work: Mr. Kerlin first did repair work on the front of my house where some wood was rotting out up near the roof line. He then painted the entire exterior of the house and installed an extension to one of my gutter downspouts.

We were getting a lot of water in a bathroom and one of our bedrooms during heavy rains. We suspected the problem was with a brick glass window in the bathroom. We intended to remodel that wall of the bathroom to replace the large brick glass window with a more traditional window. Dennis advised that we keep the window, as it is a unique feature of our house. He instead proposed doing some cement work, and caulking in the places he identified a places the water could be getting in. We went with his suggestions, and are pleased with the results. His suggestions saved us a lot of money.

Description of Work: The work has not yet been done - a contract for the sale of the house is in negotiations. However, Dennis came out, was punctual, very professional, and did a great job of going over the work that needed doing (and what didn't) and giving a verbal estimate and following up with a written one. After initial visit to estimate cost, I had to call back to remind him about the written estimate and schedule a time for the work. The repairs of the door frame, shingles, and ceiling were satisfactory. The toilet still wobbled after the repair (and the toilet fix was the major portion of the expense). He returned to shim the toilet. It didn't wobble any more, but I had to clean off a jagged piece of the wooden shim and re-caulk around the toilet bowl myself. I would use him again for carpentry, but not for plumbing. (You need yes-maybe-no categories for whether we would use the services again.)

First of all, I hate doing this because I have nothing against the guy personally. But the job was bad and this site is all about spreading the word so we can find good service providers in the future. I hired Dennis because I didn't have time to do the work. Right away, he told me that I was ?beating myself up?. He said that I shouldn?t be that concerned with quality since the condo is cheap anyway. If I?m paying for a professional job to be done, I expect it to be done with quality no matter how much the property is worth. Here are just some of the problems I had: 1. The texture was way off. It was not matched at all. 2. I had a 3 ft line in the ceiling I wanted covered up. It was where two pieces of sheetrock didn't match up. Now instead of a small line, I have a big circle. It's worse now. 3. High spots on the wall left from old texture flaws were covered up and made higher instead of scraped down. 4. Paint got on all the appliances, doors, floor, lots of paint on the base, fireplace, and windows. Now I have to scrape it off. 5. He didn't go all the way up the wall with the paint. Some spots just didn't get enough paint. I can see the old color. 6. Paint drips were left on the base. 7. He painted over the breaker box. I now have to cut it open with a razor. 8. The furnace cover was painted over. A person would have had to cut it open to change the filter. He ended up fixing this and painting behind the door. I still re-painted the door. 8. He thought it was a good idea to spray paint the doorbell cover, outlet covers, alarm system, vents. None of it got cleaned before painting and it all turned out bad. 9. The base was totally messed up. This is just some of the things. I tried to bring up the problems before completion, and he didn't want to hear it because he wasn't done. I gave him a another chance just to find out that he should have listened to me because what I was complaining about was different than what he was thinking was wrong. I basically had to take time off work and redo the job completely. Now I am out even more money plus my time. I took the time to document the job before posting this. Please take a look at the photos here (either click or copy and paste this address) : http://s688.photobucket.com/albums/vv248/scotttrue_2009/contractor%20disaster/?albumview=slideshow

A walk through is always my policy before final payment is made on every job. The member was out of town when i finished the job so his wife paid me. We did a walk thru prior to his leaving on the ceiling texture and passed by him and his wife. I finished the job. Shop vacuumed all and wiped down floors on my hands and knees as I always do. Locked the door and left. Than the complaint on e-mail. Total surprise to me.

I was tickled with them. Their price and quality of work was very good. I got a good value and I am really satisfied. It took them about 2.5 - 3 weeks to finish the project, but there were days that the weather was not work permitting and it was also over Christmas. It is a family business and everyone who did the work was family. I was able to sit and converse and joke with the man and for me that was great. For a stick in the mud that kind of personality might be awful and he may also behave differently with someone else. They are really timely, quality and a joy to work with. I am looking for more work so I can hire them back.
