I did not have to be home for the work to be done and completed. He is very experienced in what he does and has good attention to detail. The final bill was very close to the estimate. Chris is a trustworthy person and even came by later to put some and quot;end-capsand quot; on the railing. I would not have known they were missing! Really nice custom work and very good quality. My project was just a small one and he could have said no, but he did not. I would recommend his work any time for small or large projects!
Description of Work: Since Chris was here creating wonderful iron fences for the builder, I asked him if he could do a small one for my front door area. He said no problem and walked over to check it out and gave me an estimate. He told me what dates he could do it and I could not be off of work. So Chris was fine with doing the work when I was at my work. It is tough when there are so many things to get done for a new home. I needed something so when folks left my front door at night or got a wee bit off balance they would not roll out onto the street since I am on a little hill. It is only 3 feet, but I don't want anyone to hurt themselves. Chris understood what I wanted and we walked around and looked at a few others.

We wanted iron railing for our new deck to match the iron stair railing inside our home; so we had to go custom. The project manager for OIFS, Thomas, came out to measure and find out exactly what we wanted. He wrote up an estimate that was lower than the others we recieved---to my surprise, because this company seemed more professional than the others. He was courteous, pleasant to work with, and customer oriented. As with many custom jobs, problems come up that need to be figured out, but my husband and I expected this. On the first day of install, when the railing showed up with some small spots missed during the painting process, Thomas sent them back to be repainted before installing. He also personally saw to having a couple of install errors fixed. One Tapcon anchor (out of twelve) cracked one of the bricks on our house. He fixed that himself, and there were several other issues he made sure were fixed, even if he had to fix them himself. It was clear Thomas wanted to make sure we were happy with the work, so we were not worried that the final job would be to our liking. We were mostly happy with the installers' work. They could have been more careful not getting excess spray paint on our deck (cutting to size, welding and filing needed to be painted over), but since our deck top was a dark brown stain, it did not show much and was not a big problem. Had it been a lighter color, that would have been a different story--(This is the main reason for the slight overall rating downgrade to B). There was a couple of install errors that the project manager had to make sure to fix, but overall, they did a nice job. They were talented welders and did a great job on the welds and making the railing look nice. At one point towards the end, the owner of the company came out because of two issues: One dealing with the two gates being very heavy (because of the beautiful, large ornamental iron piece I picked out for the gates) and worry of them causing the railing to bend inward and the gate possibly lowering enough to scrape the deck. The other issue was a part of the railing which was stand alone, cantilevered vertically, on the upper portion of the deck. I worried about anyone leaning against it and the rail falling over if not reinforced. The company owner, Thomas and I talked it over and came up with sturdy design change reinforcements for both the stand alone rail section and the heavy gate problem. Thomas pushed to make his customer happy (and so did I!) and I feel that was a big reason the owner had his installers order some extra pieces and come out an extra day to fix these two issues. The company owner came up with an asthetically pleasing way to fix the cantilever railing problem. The fix to the problem of the extra heavy swing gates was not as pretty as the rest of the deck railing, unfortunately, but it was not glaringly ugly either. The extra iron pieces protrude a little on the outside of the deck in a triangular form, and most people won't notice it. Yet, it was necessary to keep the heavy gate up. Maybe some of the minor mistakes/issues could have been avoided, but they were not major problems, and it is expected with custom jobs like this. We have a beautiful deck with beautiful railing now! In the end, they made it right, and that is what counts.
