M.A.B. remodeling

Miguel was a no-show for our first scheduled appointment (for estimates). That should have been a sign for us not to use him, but hindsight is always 20/20. When we called about the missed appointment, he profusely apologized for having forgotten about the appointment and rescheduled. He showed up on time the next day and gave us quotes for several job around the house, including one for spray painting our oak kitchen cabinets white. His initial quote required us to provide only the the paint and primer. He also said the job would take a day and a half. When we called him (from the paint store) to ask how much and what type of paint was needed, he mentioned that we needed to provide additional supplies, such as plastic sheeting, paper and tape. We reminded him that he hadn't mentioned this when he provided us the quote, and that we had a comparable bid from another contractor willing to provide the additional supplies. He relented. He showed up on time on the morning of the job. But half-way through the day, he tried to renegotiate the job and said he wouldn't remove the hinges/hardware from the cabinets before painting since this would take too long. We grudgingly agreed, but had a bad feeling about moving forward. To his credit, not removing the hinges wasn't all that big of a deal once the job was done. He completed the job the same night (after dark). We took a cursory look at the kitchen, but couldn't stand to be in the room for more than a few minutes due to the strong odor of the paint. Also, since the cabinets were still wet from the last coat of paint, we couldn't touch or move them to inspect them closely. We paid him and he left. The next day, when we finally did a thorough inspection of the finished cabinets, we realized that several of the drawer fronts were left rough to the touch, unlike most of the surfaces which were painted smooth. Additionally, corners of the kitchen appliances had been sprayed with paint, including a section of our brand new stainless steel dishwasher. There were areas (mostly inside the cabinets) where the surface wasn't completely painted and the original finish showed through. The worst part of it was that our brand new stainless steel $2,000 fridge was dented on the side. We assume that he wanted to get done with the work on the same day so that he could move onto a new job the next day and therefore, didn't take the time to inspect his work, resand/repaint the botched drawers or clean off the appliances.We called Miguel and scheduled another appointment with him, so that we could discuss our concerns (though, we didn't mention this to him at the time). Again, Miguel failed to show up for the scheduled appointment. Then he wouldn't take our calls for several days. Finally, we called him from a different number and he picked up and said he was going to be out of town for a couple of days and would come once he returned. This time, he showed up for our appointment (on a Monday) and seemed both apologetic and surprised at the flaws in his work. He told us he would come back the following Friday morning to finish the job properly. The following Friday morning came and went and no Miguel. We again called and left messages the morning of his no-show and no response. Bottom line, DO NOT USE HIS SERVICES. He's a nice guy (personality wise), but lacks professionalism and punctuality. You might save a few dollars on the front end with him, but you run the risk of having to pay someone else to clean up his mistakes, like we're having to do.
