+ -1 moreThe wall was built as a result of the recent flooding. My backyard slopes down toward my house. During the May flood our yard was under a foot of water or more due to the run off from the yards behind my house. The retaining wall will divert the water from coming up to my back door and it will be directed to travel around my house and run down to the side instead of settling in the back yard.
Description of Work: Installed a retaining wall to stop rainfall from flooding my back yard.

+ 0 moreThe project went very well. I wanted a small garden with a small flagstone patio in a shady area beside my house. I wanted to use mainly native plants for birds and butterflies and Alexis is extremely knowledgeable and enthusiastic regarding native plants. She came to our house, gave me lots of ideas and options. She is very creative and drew up design ideas on the spot. She wrote down a list of native plants which would work in different places and gave us an estimate. Our property is a mix of two-thirds wild natural landscape and about one-third professional landscape. Alexis was able to blend the two ideas together using native rock and flagstone. After refining our design and estimate, we set dates for the work to begin, working around all the rainy days we had this spring. But we were flexible and we kept in touch with each other. She and her two-man crew started and finished the project in three days, just as she had predicted. I would hire her again. She is professional, creative, knowledgeable, and she supervised and worked with her crew closely. During the installation she was very pleasant and generously shared her knowledge when asked about other aspects of our property. Her bill matched her estimate. No problems. It's been two months since the garden and patio were installed, and it has stood up well to the Memorial Day/June gulley-washers. Everything is intact and the flagstone patio and gardens drain well.
Description of Work: She designed, built a flagstone patio with a built-in flagstone bench and built and landscaped a flower garden.

+ -1 moreWe got one estimate for our new home that sounded like "we will put in sod and then we can talk about some bushes." Alexis came to the house and took measurements of the house and yard and assessed the contours and drainage requirements of the yard. She drew detailed plans with names of plants and presented it to us with detailed descriptions of the plants and what her vision for the design was. We required some small changes which she cheerfully accommodated and we hired her to do the job. Her crew was dedicated and did an awesome job lasting about a month. Our yard is now a showplace with wonderful areas for relaxing and there is always something blooming.

+ -1 moreAlexis is wonderful to work with and her team of guys know what they're doing (not for nothing I like the fact that she has legally sponsored all the members of her team--no undocumented aliens working for her but more important she cares enough about her people and having quality help). She has great ideas but is open to suggestions and personal idiosyncrasies. I changed my mind about things in mid-stream and she never batted an eyelash. I also asked her to do things well beyond her scope (like moving a huge chicken coop from my neighbors' front yard to their backyard because they couldn't do it and it was an eyesore). (I'm in a well-established central neighborhood, not out in the burbs.) My lot slopes backwards fairly dramatically and she found a way to turn a roaring creek when it rains into nothing by terracing the side of the house. Now even in the worst storm there is barely any run-off. She planted in winter so I didn't get the full effect until just now as the weather warms up but I really love everything she did--it looks great and my neighbors have complimented me. She is also funny, charming, and smart.

She listened to my thoughts and developed an excellent concept for turning my plain lawn into a beautiful landscape with Austin friendly plants. Description of Work: I recently had my new home landscaped by Alexis Bearer AKA 'Landscapewitch'. She came to the location and presented a landscape plan that was based on what I asked for. Living in Austin, Texas you want landscaping that doesn't need to be water very often. Alexis used native plants to accomplish low water use. I asked for plants that would attract birds, butterflys and hummng birds and this was included in the plant selection. My other request was for plants that were low maintance and would be seasonal. All of this was included in her design. It has been awhile where a contractor considered what I wanted and provided it all in the design. The back yard was reviewed for areas that were sunny versus more shady areas. The ground was then marked off into beds and cleared of sod etc. then the crew added garden soil to the area. A trelis was needed in two areas and Alexis used native cedar. The cedar was cut locally and the bark removed, holes were dug and the post were cemented in place, branches and limbs of cedar were then screwed to the post with 3" screws. It made for two great trillis. One trillis will have a climbing rose bush and the other will have coral honeysuckle on half and purple passion on the other half. I just remembered that some plants were used to generate smells along with flowers etc. The plants were planted and then everything was mulched. A walk way of local limestone was put down going back to a small patio of the same materail. This work was completed in four days and was supervised by Alexis. She reviewed the areas while planting to insure that the right plants were in the right light/placemtent in the beds. The quoted price was the final cost.

When she built our seating area under the trees she knew of my interest in fossils and she brought them in to the design too. Just like those personal touches. She saw that I like fig trees and she brought me 4 more too. We really liked her price, She made observations about our likes and dislikes, She made sure her workers were here and working. She really does a fantastic job and we are bringing her back next year to do more work.

We were able to communicate with her regularly and if there was any miscommunication we worked together to quickly resolve them. The backyard is exactly what we wanted. We have plans to hire Alexis for other projects.

Showed up with the crew on the day promised,and finished quickly and went over everything in detail before/during/after service. She is very well versed in her field, and was very pleasant to work with.

+ -1 moreWork was shoddy in many areas. Many plants not planted in the ground, just sitting in holes. Some areas left unmulched. Flagstones set too low in some areas. Workers took debris and just put it on embankment and covered over with mounds of mulch, which shortly settled and debris then showed through, looked awful. Alexis came back to rectify with new workers, quality of work better but not great. She did not supervise her workers adequately and did not inspect for quality control. Nice person and a great designer.
Description of Work: Removed dead plants, added new ones. Removed gravel and added grass areas. Added flagstone walkway. Enlargeded and built-up existing flagstone patio. Patched up areas of dead grass with sod. Refreshed mulch.

+ 0 moreWhen Alexis came to bid on the job, she drew a plan and gave me a quote that day. She spent several hours total talking to me, assessing the condition of some existing shrubs, showing me pictures of her plant choices if I wasn't familiar with them, drawing the plan, and writing up the quote. The other two landscapers who I requested bids from spent less than a half-hour with me and only gave me a vague idea of a plan and plants they would use. As a result of her thoroughness and ideas. I hired Alexis that same day. She was available to schedule the work within three weeks. She also accommodated my schedule, allowing me to work a fence replacement by another contractor in between the clean-up work and the landscaping. The backyard was beautiful (it was the most involved); the front bed is also a big improvement and I love her plant choices. The patio is gorgeous, especially the pebbles inlaid between some of the limestone pavers. The arbor and trellis are made of cedar, are sturdy and are nicely designed. Other work included adjustments to my existing sprinkler system to service the modified design. They also laid some sod to complete the redesign. A couple of small areas were not getting adequate water, and Alexis came out promptly and modified the sprinkler system to fix the problem.
Description of Work: Alexis drew a plan for rejuvenating and modifying our backyard landscape. She and her crew cleaned up the neglected backyard (trimming trees and a bush, cutting down a tree, and digging up invasive hackberry saplings, built five trellises and an arbor, laid two stepping stone paths, added stone steps into the end of a large existing raised flower bed/limestone retaining wall, and built a small limestone patio with a pebble design imbedded. They took old bushes out of bed in front of the house, and cleaned out and replanted in another bed in the side yard. The new landscaping included many new plants and reconfiguring existing design and adding new design elements like the patio, trellises and arbor. A crepe myrtle was transplanted from the back yard to the front.

The only snag we hit was that the pond leaked but she returned to lay a new liner and then we thought we had another leak, but the water was apparently escaping over the back of the rocks and underneath the liner. She returned about four times total, generally on a Friday, to examine the problem. She was committed to the project being completed to satisfaction. We did wish that she had been quicker to communicate with us on her follow-up visits and emails about the leak. The overall project was scheduled for two days and completed within one month because of the leak. We would definitely use her again because the end result is a lovely space that suits us to a tee and she will complete the project to satisfaction.
Description of Work: We live in a townhome and have a small courtyard that we wanted landscaped to include a water feature. Alexis planned the space, and was helpful in choosing the low water plants. The completed water feature was beyond our expectations. It turned out to be a beautiful rock fountain, with cascading water over a few ledges, ending up in a nice little pool. (I can see a water lily to two in the pond basin). She suggested the rocks/boulders and we are very happy with her choices.

Specs included masonry work and plant installation. Owner emailed with a glowing reply about the detailed specs and said she would "try" to come out for a look to provide an estimate. After repeated phone calls, she determined she actually was too busy to include this job at this time.

Our yard is much more attractive and we frequently have people stop and ask us who did the work for us. She found the right combination of bushes and flowers. She spent a lot of time finding out exactly what we wanted (like a low maintenance yard). She checked back frequently and made sure we were satisfied. When we lost three bushes in the summer heat, she replaced them, no questions asked. She's not the cheapest in town, but is a good value for the money. We will use her in the future.

+ -1 moreI was looking forward to working with this company and then ultimately disappointed by the total lack of response. I don't like assigning a grade for services that were not performed, but I assigned a D because a grade must be assigned to submit a report on Angie's list. Unfortunately, this experience has been rather typical for me. I suspect a lot of vendor's on Angie's list are trolling for low-hanging fruit and then just pick the "cherry" job prospects. The lack of response is very unprofessional. My advice to Angie's List users is to treat reports in which vendors do not respond as a major red flag.
Description of Work: A representative came out and took a look at the property and did a few sketches on the spot. I was optimistic that a landscape design plan could be obtained. I was told that a preliminary plan would be available in about two weeks and the associated fee. After three weeks I left an e-mail message requesting a status check. After four weeks I left a phone message requesting a status check. I have not heard anything from Landscapewitch Inc. since the initial consult over two months ago.

+ -1 moreWe set up the appointment entirely via e-mail. (Some contractors don't do well over e-mail, so kudos there.) I forgot to give her my address, but she was resourceful enough to look it up and show up at the scheduled time. We walked around my yard and discussed various things for the better part of an hour, until I ran out of questions. I started to take action on her suggestions this weekend, and so far so good.
Description of Work: I asked Alexis to come over for a consultation. I asked her questions like, "Are these plants still living (after the winter freeze)?" "What can I plant here that the deer won't eat?" "What can I do to improve my lawn?" She gave me at least a dozen great suggestions, including several things she observed, that I didn't specifically ask about. It was well worth the consultation fee.

+ -1 moreI liked the sketch, and she said she would email us the bid. After not hearing from her for three months (October), I called to find out the status of the bid. She was chagrined that she had not emailed us the bid and said she would do it "tonight" to "redeem" herself. I again gave her my email address. It is now two weeks later, and no bid has been received, nor has a follow-up call been received.
Description of Work: Alexa came out and did an on-site landscape sketch for our new-construction back yard.
