He was late showing up, but it was worth it. I was impressed he was working on new years day, but very grateful.
Description of Work: He repaired my washing machine in about 15 minutes. I had been trying to get it done for 2 weeks by another company. this guy (Chance was his name), clearly knew exactly how to check the machine and trouble shoot. It turned out to be a relatively minor problem. I would use him again in a heartbeat.

Our high-end fridge's ice maker hadn't been working right for a long time, finally called South Austin Appliance Repair. I was fully prepared to a few hundred dollars to make it right, but the technician took one look and told us our problem was part of a possible class action suit and that we could get it solved that way - and we did. That's honest business - thank you.

I followed up with the staff in the front office and ordered a new machine from them that came with a warranty late Friday afternoon as they were likely getting ready to close. If that alone wasn't a great deal, they came out on Saturday with a LOANER MACHINE so we could get our piles of laundry done until the new one arrives. The staff is great and go above and beyond "good customer service." I am very pleased with this crew out of Buda!
Description of Work: I had a broken washer and they sent technicians out ASAP to diagnose the problem. The technicians were polite and very informative. Even with the circumstances I was in, I enjoyed their visit - those two were wonderful gentlemen! I appreciate the time they took to explain their findings to me and they give me a variety of options. The cost of repair, however, was greater than the cost of a new machine.

This company is a major disappointment. Needed a microwave and an issue with our fridge repaired. Judy was very polite and worked with us to get an appointment to fit our schedule; that was the only positive thing that happened. The technician arrived and diagnosed the issue with the fridge and microwave. He removed the over-the-counter microwave and put it in our garage. He informed my wife that the parts would arrive depending on where they order them from and that the bad weather might affect shipping time. Heard nothing from them after two days. Today, 10/15/15, I called and spoke with Lindsey who informed me that due to bad weather on the East coast it could take 5-7 days to get the parts. WHAT? ARE YOU SERIOUS? The parts needed are not difficult to find and after some research on the web I discovered that i could purchase them in Austin, today!! Also, I could get them delivered from a multitude of vendors next day delivery! When i first spoke with Judy I was asked to send the model numbers for both appliances, which I did, thinking that they were ahead of the curve and were making sure that they had the parts most needed. This was not the case. Even if their warehouse is located on the East Coast this would be terrible customer service. I hate receiving the proverbial great customer service when they want your business but the horrific after-sales service and being ignored thereafter. I will update this review in the very unlikely event something positive occurs in the next few days.
Description of Work: Diagnosed issue, ordered parts, gave no definitive time-frame for repair and then ignored the customer.

I called on Wednesday and was able to schedule an appointment for Friday. They called on Friday morning to confirm the appoint and the serviceman arrived right on time. He vacuumed out the water standing in the washer and the drain line but didn't find any problem with the drain pump. Gave me some good advice on maintaining the washer (4 cups vinegar 2X per month) in light of my very hard water. Even though he didn't find a big problem with the machine, it was good to have it checked out in case there was a problem. Very professional, prompt, personable service. I would highly recommend and will use them for future service. I'm very happy with the service provided.

Called several repair services on angiels list for an appt. This company is only one to return my call. Set up appt for several days later. Arrived as scheduled. Took dryer apart to assess problem and found two of three heat elements not working. Had to order parts but came back next week to finish repairs. Took about two hours but got it working again. Also cleaned lint from inside of dryer and under dryer. Left work area very clean. Worker very cordial and answered any questions I had.

When I called to schedule I was able to get a quick turnaround appointment (next day) and was told the technician would call me when he was on the way. I did receive a call from the office telling me that the technician was running late but would be there very soon. They called again to tell me when he was about to arrive. The technician got to work right away taking apart the washing machine to determine the issue and provided a thorough explanation of what repairs were necessary and showed me exactly what the issue was. We talked through the repair costs and he provided his professional opinion on repairing vs. replacing the machine. Due to the age of my washer I decided to forego the repair and look to purchase a new washing machine. I asked him his opinion on brands/types and he spent some time walking me through his experiences and provided a recommendation. He talked to me about surge protection for my other large appliances (refrigerator, washer, dryer, etc...) as a precaution as I had recently had a lightning strike which took out the phone/internet box on the side of my house. He told me where I could purchase those and the approximate cost. He was very courteous and respectful of my home and he replaced all of the parts of the washing machine before he left. I appreciated that he spent the additional time with me discussing options even after he knew I was not going to do the repair work with him. I will definitely use South Austin Appliance Repair next time I have the need.

GREAT! Chance, the service technician, arrived at the appointed time on the same day that I called for service. He was professional, knowledgable, clean and well organized. He explained how the system worked, explained what COULD be wrong, but after inspecting and cleaning the ice maker, he replaced it, explaining that that could be all that it needed. He spent about 45 minutes and only billed me the $59 service charge. If the ice maker continues to leak, he provided me with a $450 estimate (less Angie's list 10% discount) if he had to replace both the ice maker unit and the vallve system. We will see, but I am quite comfortable having Chance replace the parts if needed. He MAY have fixed it for the price of a service call, and did NOT immedicately go to the nulear option of full replacement. I thoroughly appreciate this honest approach and will definitely use Chance and South Austin Appliance for all my appliance issues.

They were fantastic, they really work because they could have really proceed 'cause they know what was wrong at my refrigerator. And it was just one little thing and they fixed it. And they said "The motors were kind of okay and it could last till five to 10 years. I will call them again if I need them. I was satisfied. They were really friendly and they fixed only what was broken. He was honest. Their price were reasonable. I would use this provider again in the future.

Repairman arrived on time. He was familiar with the model and its operations and common problems. Quickly located the problem. There were 2 possible solutions to the problem, one costing $500 the other $110. The difference was his diligence in isolating the real problem. The easy solution was to simply replace the motor and drive unit - $350 parts + labor. The other was simply to properly remount the drain pump unit and tighten a clamp. The $110 solution worked just fine and he assured me it unit was good as new. He also suggested maintenance that should be performed by the homeowner for the dishwasher and washing machine. He explained an inexpensive solution to remove the soap scum that is the main cause of failure in dishwashers and washers. Left our kitchen clean and neat. Did not try to "up-sell" me a single item or service.

rThe refrigerator was not maintaining proper temperature even though the freezer was working, but building up some ice. When the technicians showed up on time after a 30 minute call notifying me of they arrival. He checked the unit and explained and showed me what the problem was. He replaced the fan in a very short time and then explained to me exactly what was happening. He said that because the fan was inoperable it was not properly circulating the chilled air between the freezer and the refrigerator to maintain a 35-37 degree refrigerator temperature and causing ice build-up in the freezer. The ice build-up caused the drain line to freeze creating a plugged line which in turn did not let the unit to defrost. I knew that the freezer & refrigerator supported each other for cooling and freezing. He explained to leave the unit off for at least 2-3 hours to de-ice the drain line and to check if it is clear by checking for water in the reservoir under the unit. It actually took about 6 hours for water to appear. The next morning all the proper temperatures were stable and I was able to place food in the freezer and refrigerator. The current refrigerator temperature is 35 degrees. I also used a $25 Angie"s List discount coupon.

Based on overall positive reviews, I had South Austin Appliance come out to look at my Whirlpool Duet washer, which was failing to drain. The washer is less than a year outside of the manufacturer's warranty (under 2 years old overall). I hadn't purchased an extended warranty, because I'm of the opinion that a $900 appliance shouldn't fail within its first two years, warranty status notwithstanding. My review is based on this basic progression of events: 1) Service provider comes out, diagnoses issue. At this point they were prompt, friendly, fine overall. 2) They tell me that unfortunately, the problem is going to require a major part that has simply failed, resulting in a repair that is just under $400. They also tell me that I can call Whirlpool, explain how new the unit is, and try to get them to cover part of the repair costs. 3) They seem legit, so I pay them to order the part (at this point it is about 4:30 PM), and call Whirlpool immediately after they leave. 4) I find out that Whirlpool won't even talk to me because S. Austin Appliance isn't a "certified" service provider. This is contrary to what their website says, and sort of conflicts with what the technician said - I called the tech and tried to get clarification, and got what felt like a semantical runaround about whether they were certified for in/out of warranty repairs, what certification means, etc etc. At the end of the day, though, Whirlpool wouldn't do anything for me at all based on a diagnosis provided by S. Austin Appliance, and that's what matters. The technician and the website can say "certified", and tell you it means any number of things, but if the manufacturer doesn't consider it valid, it has no value. 5) After two or three calls to the manufacturer in quick succession, requesting escalation, and so on, I realized that I really wasn't going to be able to get anywhere unless I brought out a different service provider. I called South Austin Appliance again - within an hour of the tech leaving- and asked them to hold off ordering the part while I looked into the problem. I spoke to the tech AND the after-hours dispatch person, and both of them confirmed: "No problem, we haven't ordered it yet anyway." 6) I scheduled another provider (Appliance Express, who were great) come out and diagnose the problem. I called S. Austin Appliance back, apologized, and said that I should probably just go with the other provider since Whirlpool was being so difficult. At this point, I felt like S. Austin had done a fine job, and were just victims of a manufacturer's policies. The whole "certification" thing didn't sink in until the issues progressed a bit. 7) Because I had paid for the part up front (but again, been assured that it was never ordered), S. Austin Appliance said they'd need to sort out how to refund me, minus the service call fee of $55. I was ok with paying them for their time and effort at this point. 8) A few days later, I got a call back from them saying that they had "decided" to refund the cost of the part (as we agreed), but charge me the re-stocking fee instead of the service fee. That would have been about $20 more - but I had been assured more than twice at this point that the part was never ordered... so what were they re-stocking? At this point the fishiness of the "certified" question had sunk in a bit more, and the other service provider had come out and made a different, less expensive diagnosis of the problem anyway. So, in short, I wasn't having it: I pushed back and refused, saying that I wouldn't pay a restocking fee for something that I was told, twice, was never ordered. If they had an internal communication problem that caused the part to be ordered anyway, that's not my mistake. Why should I pay an extra $20 for their error when I was already paying a service fee to a company who, realistically, should have told me up front that their diagnosis wouldn't be acceptable to the manufacturer? I was upfront about my plans to contact Whirlpool about any repair costs, and mentioned that from the start. 9) They processed the refund for the original amount- at this point, I wasn't too happy about having paid them a service fee at all, since the time and trouble they'd cost me had outweighed the 30 minutes spent by their tech providing a diagnosis. Speaking of which... 10) The other service provided made a different (less expensive) diagnosis, and it resolved the issue. I didn't have to argue with Whirlpool, I had no billing problems, nothing. Appliance Express does charge about $40 more for the service call, but it was completely worth it - I wasted hours running in circles with Whirlpool and South Austin Appliance. It seems like others have had good experiences with S. Austin Appliance, and maybe if you weren't trying to deal with the manufacturer directly, they would be fine. But if you're in a situation like mine, I'd recommend against it.
Description of Work: If there is one takeaway I offer from my experience, it's this: DO NOT USE THIS COMPANY IF YOU HAVE ANY PLANS TO CONTACT THE MANUFACTURER AND REQUEST THAT THEY COVER ANY REPAIR COSTS. At least for Whirlpool/Kenmore/Amana, this provider has apparently opted out of the manufacturer's "certification" process, which means that if you try to call that manufacturer about a problem, they won't even talk to you. You'll have to bring out another provider before Whirlpool will even consider reimbursing any of your costs. I can't speak to other manufacturers, but South Austin Appliance was sort of cagey about admitting to this fact for Whirlpool, so I'd highly recommend calling the manufacturer first. There were other aspects of my service call that were problematic, including: 1) Tried to charge me a "restocking" fee for a part that two people had already told me they never ordered. (To own my part, I did initially pay them to order the part, but called back within the hour to see if that could be cancelled - was told that they hadn't ordered it yet, and cancelling would be no trouble.) 2) Misrepresented (whether intentionally, or through simple lack of clarity on their own end, I don't know) whether they are "certified" by the manufacturer for out-of-warranty repairs. The manufacturer doesn't consider their diagnosis valid, so that to me says you're not "certified" in any way that matters. 3) It turned out that what ended up fixing the problem was a different part entirely (thanks, Appliance Express, for getting it done). 4) Left me on the hook for a $55 service call fee when all they did in the end was waste my time. If you're going to have any kind of interaction with the manufacturer of your appliance, based on my experience I recommend calling them first to see who is certified in your area. Had my problem not required interaction with the manufacturer, maybe my experience would have been more positive.

The washer was making more noise than usual and I was worried it would give out soon. I called South Austin Applicance repair who responded fairly quickly. A nice technician named Chance arrived, took note of the problem which was a replacement of the drain pump. The repair was made in good time, everything was checked out and cleaned plus he also checked the dryer just to make sure there were no problems there. All in all it was a good experience; the best part being I didn't have to purchase a new washer.
