Chris Duncanson Custom Carpentry & Remodeling

Our experience with Chris Duncanson was excellent. Chris is a good communicator, and an organized contractor. I would not hesitate to recommend or rehire Chris for another job!

Chris is a master craftsman. His schedule is busy, but if you want a true professional and you want the job done right, he is worth the wait. His knowledge of carpentry is immeasurable, and his attention to detail is impeccable. I will definitely hire Chris again on our bathroom remodel in the near future.

Chris was amazing. I was originally planning to do flat pack cabinets, but we talked it through and he built beautiful custom cabinets that I absolutely love for nearly the same price. I went in with drawings of what I wanted and he created a fabulous kitchen for us. I was able to get some creative customized cabinets to maximize our space that I never would have been able to find. Chris was very responsive and helpful with my many questions. He stayed on budget and on his quoted time frame. His crew was also great. We were living in the house while the remodel was going on - there was very little mess or dust across the house. They cleaned up every day and were polite and friendly. We are so happy with our new kitchen!

The work came out wonderfully, with custom kitchen cabinets, bathroom vanities, built ins, and media/entertainment center. Working with Chris was seamless and we were very happy with the results. My only regret, was not getting Chris to also do our closets as well.

Chris Duncanson is terrific. He was very conscientious about answering questions and returning phone calls and texts. The price was reasonable. The quality of the work was outstanding. The work was finished in a timely manner - exactly when he estimated it would be done. Everybody who's seen the work in the kitchen is blown away. He's mature, responsible, has a great sense of humor, and was very pleasant to deal with. Just out of the goodness of his heart, he helped me with another repair that had nothing to do with the kitchen remodeling. I would enthusiastically recommend Chris to anyone wanting to do remodeling work.

Chris and his project manager Adam were fantastic to work with. They were very down to earth and took the time to understand what I was looking to do to make my bathroom more functional. I really liked the flexibility they offered in having me provide many of the materials (tile, grout, faucets) so that I didn't feel like I was paying an extra amount for their 'cut' of the hard costs. (The downside to this was that I bought the wrong part, but it was easily rectified with their expertise in doing these jobs so regularly.) Their specialists were also top notch. They say the name of their tile guy is a secret because he's so good. They weren't kidding, he did a spectacular job. Chris went out of the country on vacation during my remodel but I had no concerns about his absence as Adam kept everything on track and communicated with me regularly about status, setting expectations for next steps and addressing the unexpected that always happens during a remodel. They stuck to their timeline for the most part. The hiccup was with the glass for the shower, it just took longer than usual which was disappointing as it was the very last thing to be done. Not at all their fault, but still frustrating. I recommend Chris Duncanson and his team wholeheartedly. I found them to be honest, on time, on budget and a true pleasure to work with.

Chris Duncanson gutted the kitchen, removing the wallpaper, existing appliances, cabinets and countertops. He then built custom cabinets and remodeled the kitchen according to the specifications of a friend of the family who is a retired architect. Chris prepped and painted the walls, installed the new cabinets, lighting, plumbing, and appliances. We purchased our major appliances from Expressions Home Gallery. All of the new appliances are KitchenAid. Our Silestone countertops were cut and installed by Alpha Granite. Other miscellaneous materials, such as the faucet and InSinkErator garbage disposal were purchased through Amazon or Lowe’s. Chris and his helpers did beautiful work. He made minor changes in the project that we requested during the remodel without complaint. And they cleaned up the mess. Chris and his helpers were a pleasure to work with. Even our dog liked them, and he doesn’t want anyone to be in his house without his permission. We highly recommend Chris for his outstanding work remodeling our kitchen. We were also very pleased with Alpha Granite and Expressions Home Gallery. And to our friend and retired architect, Clif S., who designed our kitchen, and accompanied my wife to view and select the appliances and countertops, thank you. The total cost of the project was approximately $55,000 which included $19,500 for materials and appliances.

Expectations were exceeded in all areas. Chris Duncanson was professional on every level - from providing a detailed written estimate; always being punctual to explaining each step of the process and what I should expect each day. The sub contractors were very polite as well as very skilled in their work. I am thrilled with the outcome of this project and would definitely use Chris again and would recommend him highly for any carpentry or remodel job.

A Review for Chris Duncanson When it came to choosing a contractor for our kitchen renovation and an update of our condo apartment in Austin, TX, I knew one contractor who had done very good work for a friend, nobody else. I needed a second quote. So, I simply went to Angie’s list for the first time in my life and checked out the list of possible contractors. Chris Duncanson’s page caught my attention. I loved his work. I also liked the fact that he was not only the contractor, but also the carpenter. I wanted to have new cabinets and knowing that all the carpentry in the pictures on Angie’s list had been done by him, put him on the top of my list. I made an appointment with Chris. Meeting with him was a pleasure. He took his time to answer all my questions and showed patience and understanding for my ignorance. He proposed solutions while giving knowledgeable advice. Right from the start, I could communicate with Chris over the phone, with emails and texts. His replies were always timely. This way of communication was very important to me because the renovation was going to happen in Austin, TX, 1,400 miles away from where I lived and that I was not going to see any of the work in progress. I had to completely rely on the contractor. Honestly, I could not have done better. I chose Chris for his talent, his professionalism, his integrity and his way of communicating, and for giving me a winning quote. All along, Chris gave me progress reports and when something new happened, he sent me pictures. My kitchen is absolutely beautiful. The cabinets are gorgeous and the whole installation could be featured in a magazine. The hardware is meticulously installed. The lighting is perfect. Chris had promised to start on a certain date and to be finished before Thanksgiving, and true to his word, it was ready for us to move in at that time. You know, it is important to find a great professional who is talented and artistic, but when you add integrity and utmost respect for the customer to the mix, you are close to perfection. Chris came to my rescue after I had a bad experience ordering cabinets through a big box store. He did an excellent job with building and installing custom cabinets in my kitchen, along with refacing the bathroom cabinets. He listened to my needs and designed the cabinetry accordingly. Chris uses quality materials, including top of the line soft close drawer slides. Chris was patient when I changed my mind during the middle of the cabinetry being built and decided to have my cabinets painted, rather than stained. I am very pleased with the outcome. If you want a trustworthy carpenter, call Chris.

Chris Duncanson is a master at his craft. The bathroom remodel took approximately 4 weeks. Chris and his team worked efficiently and cleanly. Chris' carpentry work is outstanding. We highly recommend Chris Duncanson Custom Carpentry and remodel.

Chris, his 2nd in charge Adam, and the crew showed up every day when they said they'd be here, totally transformed the entire bathroom - so much light now (paint and light tile... it's beautiful), and never left a mess at the end of the day. I loved that Chris was here, either working with his crew or at a minimum coming by every day to update me. Work was completed when he said it would be, price was what he quoted (tile not included in quote - I picked everything out myself and could easily control that cost). I will definitely hire them again to transform my guest bath, hopefully in the spring!

Chris and his crew were great - on time, on budget, cleaning up everything, professional, and so easy to work with. Chris has good people doing what they do best. Chris was on site almost every day... and if he wasn't, Adam was. Already planning on having the guest bath redone!

Chris is a very pleasant person to work with. He even stopped by on his vacation to make a minor modification to his work. I was very pleased with the work. Chris will be my carpenter for any other work I need.

Chris is a wonderful contractor and skilled craftsman. He has the rare personality of a flexible perfectionist. He is refreshingly upfront about costs, and provided line item documentation. Our project took longer than estimated, however I made several changes and was admittedly slow to get some materials. This is the 3rd house in which I have undertaken major remodels, and Chris is by far the best contractor I have worked with. He also built the most amazing pass through cabinet that is in the wall, between the laundry room and master bathroom. It is beautiful and the most functional piece of furniture I have ever owned. I highly recommend Chris, and would definitely use him again.

Chris did an amazing job. My laundry room is the weirdest shape - it's like every leftover angle in the architect's plan intersects in that room. Chris designed and built the most beautiful, utilitarian shelves I could imagine. Now I have a stacking laundry unit snugly installed next to a massive amount of floor to ceiling storage. He was extremely flexible, professional, and creative. And best of all, his carpentry work was top notch. Extremely pleased with the result.

Selected Chris due to other positive reviews on Angie's and it was a great experience working with him. He is very busy so it did take a couple of months to get on his schedule but we were not in a hurry. The quality was worth waiting for. When Chris arrived one of the measurements was slightly off. Chris went back to his shop and brought materials back to the house to fix the problem on site and to our satisfaction. From prior experience we know remodel projects can have hiccups. Chris handled it so professionally and matter-of-factly that we were truly impressed. The final product is beautiful and exceeded our expectations. He obviously takes pride in his work and is a master craftsman. Hope to have Chris work on other projects for us in the future.

It was a pleasure to work with Chris. He came out twice to give me estimates because I changed my mind about what I wanted done. The work began as scheduled and Chris and his crew were diligent about minimizing disruption and cleaning up all the mess during the demolition. He had an excellent plumber to re-route the water and drain lines for the laundry area, built the laundry nook from scratch so it looks like part of the original construction, and moved the washer and dryer in from the garage, including assembling the pedestals (which I had no idea needed to be assembled!). Chris was able to translate my inarticulate "this is how I want it to look/work" into reality, resulting in a linen closet which still has plenty of storage space, but all of it is visible so things don't get shoved to the back of deep shelves and forgotten. Chris referred me to a very helpful (although somewhat out-of-the-way) stone yard where I found the perfect granite for the bathroom vanity. He also custom-built a complete set of cabinets and drawers which produced more storage than I would have thought possible in that small room. Chris is very easygoing, which was sometimes a bit frustrating in terms of scheduling but came in very handy when I decided I just could not live with the tile I had chosen for the bathroom floor after half of it had been laid. My house was built in the early 60's, so I have done a fair amount of remodeling/updating work, and Chris is one of only a couple of contractors that I would use again. And I would definitely use him if I wanted any kind of custom woodworking.

We were very pleased with Chris and Adam Jones who did most of the work. They are both extremely pleasant and personable. They respected my home as they were working. I really appreciated the advice given concerning some of the damage that we found when tearing out the old paneling and they soothed our fears and anxieties. I really trust Chris' advice. experience and skill. We have another job that Chris will begin in the next few weeks.

The attention to detail and quality were what made this project ! The frameless shower, tile work, tubs, woodwork, paint job, plumbing, electrical, and all other works couldn't have been done better. Chris and his team were honest, trustworthy, fair, knowledgeable, and excellent in their trades. My wife and I are very, very pleased with the finished project. Our home has been transformed!

Chris was professional, punctual, and responsive. I could not be more pleased with the work he and his crew did. 1) They removed a large media step/riser from our media room, along with a large arch and an open doorway (it was a weird set-up). They were careful to salvage carpet so that it could be relaid once the floor was all level. They floated, textured, and repainted the walls and ceiling to make it look as though that was the way it had always been. 2) They finished out an alcove at our front entrance way that we had into a completely finished space from the inside. From the outside, they had to remove a large brick window (no glass, it was all brick), order a custom one to put in the space, and then outline the new arched window with matching brick. Everything looks fabulous. Chris was very easy to work with. He was very conscientous of cost, and was the most reasonable estimate we got (we got 3 estimates) with absolutely zero compromise on quality of work and materials. He was also one of a very few that we contacted that was able and willing to do our small projects (other contractors said our job was too small, and it was beyond their scope of a handyman job). We will be using him again in the near future for several more small projects. I highly recommend Chris.

I really like the photos of his work, but his failure to observe the very basic rules of business etiquette suggests that he's one of those contractors for whom you have to factor in extra stress and frustration on top of the financial costs. When he first made the appointment it was kind of broad: he's call Tuesday morning to arrange a time Tuesday afternoon, and suggested I call if I hadn't heard from him by 2. At 2:30 I called to find out he had double-booked and wanted to meet me at the property the next day at 1pm. He even went so far as to ask me to call him if I would be running late. I arrived at 12:50, but he never arrived, never called, never responded to voicemail. If he was too busy, or just not interested in the scope or location of the project, he had a perfect opportunity to tell me when he missed the first appointment. Instead, I dragged the kids away from an activity they were really enjoying so we could make it home for.... nothing. I don't have time for "service providers" who don't treat my time as important.
