Went very well - a little mixup on materials delivery because of multiple rain delays and rescheduling during that time. BUT they got the materials there and still finished the job by the day/time they originally said! Quality of work was excellent. And they did a good job cleaning up. Even came back for a second sweep for nails a few days later after my grass had been cut. Brian, the project manager was very responsive, helpful, and easy to work with. Note: I rated the price as N/A because this was an insurance claim and only cost me my deductible.

The work was fast, painless and competitively priced. The work crews were very pleasant and professional. They were thorough in their clean-up. And best of all, after a severe wind/rain storm on July 25th, no new interior leaks were found. Excellent work!

Excellent. Nick and his crew were great. Have no complaints. During the process, my flagstone back porch got chipped and Nick replaced the same in a few days. Over all very professional and very friendly.

It went well. The associate called before he showed up and was kind/courteous. He told us the life expectancy of the roof and did all needed repairs.

Never showed up to perform the job!

Modern Roofing told us that they would doing a temporary fix to our roof leaks. The bids was fine at $1250. The job was never finished. They stated that they were having problems matching the tiles - that was months ago. We haven't and will not pay for the job that still leaks and now we can see the shingle propped up on the roof. It also doesn't help that we have had 500 year rains since this job was not completed. It is very hard to get any roofers out to help on this issue.

Ordered service through Angie's List but never received a response from them. I even tried contacting them but only received their answering machine.

I had used this company previously for this same service and wanted to use them again. I sent an email via Angie's List to schedule the job. I was scheduled for the week that the big storms hit Houston. I understand that there are folks with greater need than just a gutter cleaning, but I was not contacted by the company to reschedule. Office staff was unaware that they never came. I asked for a reschedule and although I spoke with the office staff a few more times via email or by phone, I have never been rescheduled. I sent a note today letting them know I no longer need their services. This is really a customer service/courtesy issue. My roof was not falling in - just needed a date/time that they can honor, which I stated several times. Or tell me you can't take the job, period. Disappointing.

We are very disappointed, especially reading all the positive reviews,( maybe fake), but they never showed up for estimate or called to reschedule . That's not a responsive business.

My home was built in 1979 in a neighborhood where all of the roofs originally had cedar shingles. My roof had asphalt shingles overlaid by a layer of composition asphalt shingles. So not only did I have to have new shingles installed, I also needed entirely new plywood decking. So even though I live in an average size home (2000 SF) the cost was significantly higher to replace my roof. Modern Roofing's quote was competitive with others. Overall the crew did fine with the roof. It took much longer than I expected that it would because of the decking and I think the complexity of our roof. I think the roofing job took a total of 6 working days. There were a couple of smaller issues and one big complaint I had: Two Small Complaints 1. On the second or third day of the job, the crew stuck a rag in one of our roof vents in order to keep debris from getting down into the vent (which was fine). What was not fine is that they left the rag in the vent at the end of the day. This cause our heater to stop working, which meant a cold night in January AND we had a newborn baby. I paid an HVAC guy to come look at the system the next day and he discovered and quickly solved the problem. Modern Roofing did pay for the HVAC guy, but it was still a distressing night for my wife who was worried about the baby. 2. Removing the Cedar Shingles was a huge mess. I should have realized this would be the case, but I wish they would have warned me and given me some time to take some precautions, especially in my garage. Everything in there, including my cars, was coated with a layer of thick dust and pieces of cedar. The crew's solution was to have me raise my garage door to block some of the debris. It was (and still is) a mess in there. The Big Complaint As the job wrapped up, the roofers came to a portion of my roof that butted up against a small gable, covered with siding. The roofers installed the flashing in this section of the roof completely wrong. Instead of installing the flashing UNDERNEATH the siding as it should have been, the roofers in stall the flashing ON TOP OF the siding. Nick Shirley, from Modern Roofing, claimed that by installing a piece of 1x4 trim over the flashing, it would be water tight. This is patently incorrect. There is no amount of caulk that could have sealed this 1x4 trim against water coming in from the top. Every time I brought up this issue, Nick pushed back on my desire to have it installed correctly. Finally, he gave in to having his father come and take a look at it, who then had the company's carpenter take a look at it. The solution they proposed was to remove and replace the existing siding so that the flashing could be correctly installed. They claimed the existing siding was installed without enough space to slip the flashing up underneath it. THE BIG PROBLEM was that they charged me $400 to do this work. They charged me an additional $400 to do the job the right way. The company's own carpenter, Joe, agreed that the initial flashing installation was incorrect, but he wasn't the one making the decision about charging me to have it done correctly. This soured me on ever using this contractor again. They seemed like nice folks, but they completely bungled this, both from the perspective of craftsmanship AND customer service. They should have anticipated how to install the flashing correctly to begin with and factored it into the price of the job they initially quoted. When they realized their mistake, they shouldn't have charged me an extra $400 (on a ~$20,000 job) to have done the right way. It is appalling to me that they were going to leave the flashing installed incorrectly and call it done.

Estimate was completed promptly and as outlined on Angies List. Workmen completing repair showed up on time and carried out work that we had agreed to on proposal.

Wasted a day waiting for someone to show up

Had numerous scheduling issues when it came to installation. It was never explained that there would be 2 different crews (one to install gutters & one to install the covers on top) doing the job. Each time I felt like I was not a priority as a customer and for the money I was spending I thought I should have been. All of the people I dealt with were polite but false promises were disappointing. The first appointment was rescheduled because they had a conflict or delay with another customer after calling me twice saying they would be there. Then when the gutter crew did show up to do their work, after being rescheduled and being told all the work would be done, the covers came days later and took 2 days to complete because it was one guy working by himself. The workmanship (quality of work) was good but that was once they were finally installed.

I purchased a Premium Roof Tune-Up through Angie's list. The package was said to include a roof inspection, caulking and sealing exposed nail heads, resealing around any unsealed fans, vents, etc. and a full attic and exterior inspection report, along with before and after photos. Setting up the appointment was easy. I put in 3 dates and a afternoon preference for the appointment. I received a call from Tea to confirm the appointment on 3/15 and for someone to show up around 2-3pm. The day of the appointment gets here and around 4:30pm I call to see if someone is planning on showing up. Tea was very nice and said she would call to see where they were at and get back to me. She calls back a few minutes later and says the job they were on took longer than expected. They think they will be done around 6pm and someone should be out to my house after that. At around 7:00pm someone finally showed up at my door. I said for the guy to go ahead and do his thing and he asked if I had a leak. I took him up to the attic to show him where I knew there had been a leak before. While up there he didn't do any other inspection or take any before photos. He just mentioned it was getting dark so he would get on the roof and reseal around the vent. About 10 minutes later, he came back to my door and said he had caulked around the vent and was done. I wasn't up there, but I doubt he did much of a "full exterior inspection" since he wasn't up there that long. He did say he took some photos of the work he did and that someone from the office would be contacting me. It's been almost a week and I haven't seen any photos or been contacted. It has not rained since he caulked around the vent, so I do not know if it still leaks. I do know that since someone showed up so late that I did not have everything that was listed in the deal description performed. I ended up paying $149 for a 10-15 minute visit for the worker to caulk around the vent. I do not believe I would recommend or use their services again.

Service was performed timely. However the new shingles type and color did not match the original shingles. After looking at it a while, I called back and asked what it would take to redo it with the correct shingles. After looking at it, the salesman agreed it was not the correct shingles. To their credit, they came back and replaced the shingles with the correct shingles at no additional charge.

Work was performed over two days. The workers were professional. Nick wanted to do whatever it took to ensure that I was satisfied with the work.

We started out on a bad note until they turn things around and completed the job.

Twice they sent a roofer without the right ladder (we live in a three story home) but they were extremely apologetic and intent on making things right.

Didn't return phone calls for more than a month. When queried they set up a date/time and then did not show up. Eventually got an estimate that lacked details of work to be done. I have not tried to make contact and they have done the same.

The work was of excellent quality. The only problem was one of communication. They came out 2 times on the wrong date and there was confusion about the work to be done. They were very helpful in getting things straightened out and Nick Shirley came out to oversee the job was done properly.
