They did a fine job but we really had a high time getting a schedule. He had to reschedule, like I think it was the forth time but it finally worked and then that one ended up being the afternoon before thanksgiving so it wasn't the best time but at least he got it done. The price was fine for me. It cost $700 and it was about 3 hours worth of work between 3 men. He at least called back all the time. I didn't have any issues with their professionalism.
Description of Work: They dug up some bushes and some trees from my backyard and then leveled the ground a little bit.

I don't know who these folks are that have provided positive reviews for Langley Tree Service. Kenneth is a nice enough guy. He's friendly and personable, but he is completely unreliable and unprofessional. After working with him on and off for over 2 years, trust me, my husband and I really know first-hand! When we hired him to maintain our yard, he actually made a comment that basically, our yard was the smallest that his crew had lined up. Our measly $75/bi-weekly job was small beans to him, and he told us to our faces that was the case. He never put us on a regular, routine schedule, so we would have to call him every single time we wanted the yard done. We asked if we could set it up for every other week on a certain day, but he never did. When they did show up, the crew normally did an adequate job with the yard. When we complained to Kenneth once because they hadn't edged the driveway and had missed some spots while weedeating, he made sure they came by the next day to take care of it. There were occasions, however, when he promised the crew would come out that week, but they never showed up. Kenneth had always talked with us about hiring him to grind several tree trunks on our property and to trim a huge red oak in our front yard whose branches were becoming very close to our second story roof. In March of 2015, my husband met with him and they agreed, in addition to grinding the tree trunks and trimming the red oak, Kenneth would also trim a second tree in our front yard, cut down about 15 hedges lining the north and west fenceline of our property and grind the leftover stumps, and prune 3 crepe myrtle trees and 4 rose bushes for $1,350. My husband made the mistake of paying 100% to Kenneth up front. Mr. Langley's crew came and cut down the 15 hedges and trimmed the two trees in the front yard. They pruned the crepe myrtles as well. It has now been 15 months since we paid Mr. Langley for the job, and the 15 bush stumps remain, nice and ugly, along the fenceline. The two tree trunks also remain as constant reminders in our yard. I finally gave up and pruned the rose bushes myself. My husband has made calls to Kenneth multiple times a month through May of 2016, asking when the remaining work will be done. Kenneth has given him every excuse in the book in explanation - "I've been out of town", "I've been sick/in the hospital", "I had to fire my entire crew because they were using drugs", "The ground is too wet" (this has been used MULTIPLE times!), "My equipment is down". You name it, we've heard it. My husband called one last time last month to give Kenneth a final chance to make it right and complete the promised work. Kenneth said that he would be out "sometime this week" to finish the work. He never showed up. Do yourself a favor. Do not call Kenneth Langley for any tree or yard service work.
Description of Work: We contacted Mr. Langley initially after reading positive reviews on Angie's List. We hired him/his crew to perform lawn maintenance every other week on our 1/2 acre lot at $75/week. Additionally, in March of 2015, we paid him $1,350 to trim 2 trees, remove approximately 15 hedge bushes, grind the bushes' stumps, grind 2 other tree stumps on our property, and prune 3 crepe myrtle trees and 4 rose bushes.

Kenneth was very responsive and communicative before and during the process. Even though he arrived later than expected, he called multiple times during the morning to let me know when to expect his crew to arrive. They were very thorough in their work and left the yard very clean and tidy. Excellent work for a reasonable price. I will use Kenneth again for future work in my yard.

I originally contacted this provider because he was highly recommended on this website. A serious mistake. Worse, I purchased the "deal" for $90 an a job he estimated at originally estimated at $800 after the $90 was deducted. After a delay because of our business travel schedule, the first appointment was on August 20. Mister Langley called to reschedule. That was the beginning of an odyssey. He continued to reschedule, and we said okay because he pled a succession of personal and family problems and offered to discount the job a bit. At first we were sympathetic, but to make a long story short, from records in my appointment book, over a period of 35 days he rescheduled SIXTEEN TIMES! Many times he would not call - he just did not show up, and called an hour or a full day after the missed appointment to ask for one more chance. Twice we changed travel plans to accommodate him, only to have another no-show day. I then checked with this website, and he was apparently continuing to do work for other customers. Finally I had enough. I contacted another service, who came within four hours to provide an estimate, with work to be completed within 24 hours, at 72% of Langley's original cost estimate. An expensive lesson in misguided trust and sympathy.
Description of Work: Don't buy the "deal". Provider did nothing except charge.

I will start off saying I was chosen to do the work based on the large number of positive comments. Regarding time frame I have unfortunately, had several family emergencies along with rain delays which lead to some scheduling issues. I was unable to get several jobs completed which caused me to push other customers back. But I have worked every weekend that I could for the past three months to try and get caught up. I try to do my best to keep clients informed on start times and any unexpected delays. I do take it personal because it is my overall responsibility to make the customer happy. That is how I started my business based on word of mouth and how it has grown into the company it is today. I hope you can look past this review and base your decision on previous jobs completed and the fact that I have been a Super Service Award Company since 2006. I am also working with Angie’s List to clear up some of this confusion regarding the Big Deal Ads and hopefully, we can have those corrected in the near future. Sincerely, Kenneth Langley

I first contacted Kenneth Langley July 6, 2014 for an estimate. We had a large tree that he's been keeping an eye on, and in fact had done some major trimming on it itwice in the past, that we thought probably needed to come down. It had also been several years since we had him out for a major trimming of all our trees. While services were not performed this time, I have used Kenneth Langley's tree service for years and was previously very happy with him. He's not the least expensive by any means, but he always did good work and was worth the money in my opinion. Unfortunately, my review won't count as much since *this* time services weren't performed. Let me share why. It took about a month for him to come out and give me an estimate. He had several personal issues, including illness, that prevented him from coming. Okay, fine, I can be flexible, I thought. I think I had to reschedule one of the times, the rest were his doing. I finally got an estimate somewhere between August 6 - 10. Then we went to schedule the work, and he rescheduled more times that I can remember. Again, several personal issues. I was pretty sympathetic, especially because some of the reschedule requests were because he needed to take care of things related to his special needs son. Again, I get that. However, at a certain point enough is enough. It is hurricane season in Houston, and we've been really lucky it has been a quiet season. But the highest risk time is early- to mid-September, and I wanted this work done. He promised several times to be out "tomorrow, first thing," etc. and sometimes wouldn't even contact me on the promised day until I called or texted him. Ultimately, in last week's rain, the tree that we really needed to have cut down FELL because the saturated ground wouldn't hold the roots any longer. Thankfully, no one was hurt and nothing was damaged. We were incredibly lucky that it didn't hit our house or our neighbor's. After letting Kenneth know the tree had come down, and we would watch the weather for the first non-rainy day to do the rest of the trimming, I texted 9/19 to ask him if he could come cut up the downed tree 9/20 so it didn't sit on my front lawn for 4 or 5 days. He didn't respond until 9/22 with a text to say he would be at my house first thing 9/23 (even though we had previously agreed he should start 9/22 if the weather was good, which it was). I texted him at about 8:30 this morning to ask what time he would be at my house today. By 9:15 I hadn't heard from him with an answer. I left him a voice message. He called me back to say he was picking up his crew. I asked him if he would be at my house in an hour. Because of where he lives and where his crew lives, he said it would take longer. At that point, I was done. "First thing in the morning" is NOT 10:30 or 11:00 AM. I am very unhappy as I see that at least two Angie's List members have reviewed work that was done in August (completed 8/7 and 8/30), one of which was a rush job estimated and completed in a matter of DAYS - after he had already committed to my job.I read further back and see that he's had a history of missed appointments, excuses going back at least until May of this year. When I saw the review of the rush job in August, I sent a screen shot of the review with the job completed date to Kenneth and confronted him with his lie. He says the work must have been completed "over a month ago" and that he never lied to me. You be the judge.
Description of Work: Took a month to get estimate. Took 6 weeks from estimate until today when I finally had enough and told him not to bother.

I called Langley when my homeowners association sent me a letter telling me I had 10 days to get my trees trimmed or they'd do it for me and send me the bill. Everyone on the street got the same letter and it was completely unexpected, so I needed someone quickly. I talked to Kenneth Langley on Monday, August 25th, he came to my house to look at the trees and give me an estimate on Wednesday, August 27th, and did the job on Saturday, August 30th. The price quoted gave me some initial sticker shock - I didn't really know how much to expect to pay - but after seeing what Kenneth and his crew did, I have to say, they earned every penny. To begin with, they showed up when they said they would, both for the estimate and for the job. Kenneth even called me Saturday morning around 9 to let me know he was on his way. He advised me on how the trees should be trimmed, pointing out where the trees were endangering the house and where they were beginning to grow together. His crew had to remove a LOT of material from the trees - enough to fill a very large trailer. Most of the tree trimmers I've seen working in my neighborhood simply pile up the cuttings at the curb for the next trash pickup. Kenneth and his crew, on the other hand, cleaned up all evidence of the work, and even blew the pine needles out of my planting beds, which they were in no way obligated to do. When all was said and done, the yard feels much more open, but the house is still well-shaded. The trees are no longer interfering with each other or endangering the house, and the 14-foot clearance over the street demanded by the local school district for their buses (the reason for the HOA letter) is met. Kenneth was friendly and professional, and I couldn't be happier with the results. I would highly recommend this provider to anyone for tree service.

Just that fast we used him again! Raccoons were eating our figs and climbing the tree to get onto our roof. We called Kenneth and he was right out to trim the tree. He also cut back a bush that was dead on top. He said it should grow back. We are very satisfied. If we need anything for our yard we will call him no doubt.

His crew was fast at the removal of the bushes. They are courteous very friendly. From quote to start date there was a delay due to weather. If it wasn't for the ridiculous amount of rain we had, he would have been there on promised date. He was teaching one of his guys how to trim high limbs on our property. I am all for professional development. He removed a small tree that was too close to house and moving our A/C unit. They cleared a patch of random growths behind our garage. They also trimmed branches off of our pine trees. Our front yard looks so much better.

We called Kenneth to get a bid to clear out trees from our house we just moved in to, on an acre in Magnolia. Wig had over 30 trees to cut down and got a bid of 3500. Unfortunately, the spring rains came for the next 2 months and when it wasn't raining it was a mud pit out back, forcing the job to be delayed. What impressed me about Kenneth is that he kept in constant contact, calling 1-2 times a week to make sure we knew he was just waiting for good weather. When we got tired of it and told him to just come and do the job, he was honest with us and told us that his equipment would cause huge ruts in our yard and he did not want to cause damage. Finally the rains broke, and he was out with his crew immediately. They kept a clean worksite and were hard workers. The project took 4 days and Kenneth came by every day to check on the progress and make sure we were satisfied. We will use him again and just got another bid for my moms house.

Factoring in the elements of the weather and probably more expensive jobs than mine, I understand everyone need to make a living. Communication is the key to all business and as I stated during our discussion with conclusion I would recommend his service and would utilize his service in the future! There were open communication between all parties involve, while the trimming was perform to my satisfaction. All is well and I do not have to worry myself with tree branches during hurricane season! Thanks to Langley Lawn and Tree Services!

After several rain delays Mr. Langley was able to with my tree service. He did a great job taking care of my big oak trees and cutting down a good sized Elm tree. He also trimmed my other Elm. He did a great job. I love the new openness while continuing to have shade from the upper limbs. My lawn will now have enough light to grow in some spots and fill in, in several other spots. They cleaned up all trimmings and left the yard in perfect condition.

Kenneth Langley was very personable and professional. I asked him to come by to give me an estimate to remove the decking materials from my backyard. We scheduled for 8AM on 6/3/14 but he called abut 7:30 and asked to reschedule till late afternoon due to a personal matter. He called around 1:30 and said they had finished a job earlier and could he come at 3 with his crew and trailer and if the proposal was acceptable he could just do the job then. My wife met him when he arrived and they negotiated a price within our budget so his team started immediately. During the job I asked him to look at a couple of dead branches in a large tree in our front yard. For a very slight adjustment, his crew did that also. Kenneth's team worked hard and efficiently and got the job done quickly. I would definitely recommend him.

Mr. Langley came out on April 10th to give an estimate on removing some small trees & providing / planting 2 new redbud trees. Price seemed on the high end, but I agreed to use him based on positive reviews. First date we scheduled was scrubbed as he had a family emergency out of town. Fine, I understand so we plan a new date. 2nd attempt is scrubbed due to his trailer needing repairs - we reschedule again. 3rd attempt is a no-go due to another family emergency out of town. All these reschedules really caused me problems as we had to juggle our work schedules around in advance to be here at the house. My wife is a teacher & it is often difficult for her to miss work . I do understand family emergencies...but after reading some of the other Angie's List comments...this seems to happen a lot with this guy. We make a 4th attempt & reschedule for this past Friday. I take the day off from work and I get a phone call from Mr. Langley around the time they are supposed to be at my house. He proceeds to explain that his brand new truck needs to go to the dealership to have something looked at, he would be right over if it was something minor or will call me in an hour to let me know if there was more to fixing it. Okie dokie...at this point I feel like I have been taken for a ride, but AGAIN I accept his excuse. He calls an hour later to say that the parts are on the way to the dealership & he is hoping it would be ready by 2:00pm that afternoon. If the truck is ready around 2:00, he will be right over to do the job, if not he was willing to work Saturday or Sunday to get the job done. He asks if I want him to call me. YES I want you to call me!! However, I get no call, no show on Friday afternoon, no call/no show on Saturday or Sunday. We have been waiting to get these trees removed so that we may finish all of our planting & mulching in our gardens. The longer this has dragged on, the smaller the window for putting new trees in the ground. The unprofessionalism & inattention to a customer has been almost laughable. My co-workers and family members were offering to connect me with tree trimmers that were less expensive, way more reliable & will actually take care of their customers, but I held off as I was trying to be considerate & work with this guy. Well I got burned big time. As another commenter mentioned, there is a lot of big talk on how good his company is, how long he has been in business, etc....but that is also countered with missed appointments, no calls & excuses, excuses & more excuses. Over all, our experience has been extremely frustrating and inconvenient. After being patient and understanding with problems that may crop up, we are left without the work being done. We must now begin the process again of finding someone to do the job. Extremely disappointing!
Description of Work: Gave an estimate on removing 3 small trees & planting 2 small trees. Wasted a month of my time. Cost me a wasted day when I took off work, cost my wife a wasted day as well.

Mr. Langley was wonderful to work with. He came the very next day after I called as I had heavy damage from the 3/4/14 ice storm. I needed immediate assistance to take away the danger of all the large loose limbs hanging from the tree. He was easy to work with, fairly priced, and his work crew was very good and safe. They did exactly what they said they would and did an excellent job. I was so impressed that they came so quick given all the damaged everyone had from the ice storm. I would highly recommend Langley Tree Service. Mr. Langley is super nice and helpful.
Description of Work: Removed downed tree limbs from ice storm on 3/4/14. Took out broken limbs (many large ones) from 3 trees. Removed one tree that was destroyed by the ice storm. Finally did the stump grind on the tree he took out. Removed all from ground, raked and hauled off everything.

Kenneth came out and provided a free estimate on the day and time he said he would (Sunday, March 16 at 11:30am). We went over the job I was looking to have done and he made suggestions on how to best trim the tree to keep it balanced and healthy. He suggested a way to trim the branches overhanging my neighbor's yard in such a way that the tree would not be off-balance and would need re-trimming every 4-5 years. He handed me a laminated copy of his insurance coverage that I looked over while he wrote up the estimate. His estimate was $400. I received estimates ranging from $250 to $650 from other providers. I decided to go with Langley Lawn & Tree Service because it was rated highly on Angie's List and Kenneth took the time to really understand what I wanted and promised me that I would be pleased with his work. The next day, I sent him a message thru Angie's List asking for his work. He put me on the books for Tuesday, April 1 at 8:00am. On Tuesday, April 1 at 7:50am, Kenneth called to let me know he had a scheduling conflict and asked if it would be possible to reschedule for Wednesday or Thursday. I let him know that neither of those days would work and asked if there would be any way to get the work done that day as originally planned. He said he would work out his scheduling conflict and would arrive by 1:00pm to trim my tree. He arrived just before 1:00pm and he and his crew went straight to work. I was not home at the time the work occurred, but my wife was very pleased with the professionalism of Kenneth and his crew. They got the work done in just under three hours and left my backyard extremely clean. All branches were hauled away. Upon completion, my wife wrote the check and the price was $400, exactly as quoted. When I got home, I looked at my tree from the side of the street and saw that Langley Lawn & Tree Service had done EXACTLY what I wanted. They trimmed the branches away from my neighbor's home and took a lot of redundant low hanging branches off on my side of the yard without removing too much shade. The tree looks extremely balanced and clean! It has really opened up my backyard vertically! My wife and I both feel we got a great value for $400. I have two large pine trees and two large oak trees in my front yard and I can see us using Langley very soon to get those things cleaned up.
Description of Work: Trimmed a large live oak tree in my backyard over my swimming pool that had branches touching my neighbors roof.
