Description of Work: Sewer line was sluggish. Two guys came out Aug. 18 and ran a camera down the clean out valve which revealed a big root directly going through the middle of the pipe and severall roots running down pipe. Also, you could see the pipe bowed downward slightly then rose. I was very impressed with their initial work. Both were friendly and professional, until... We decided the sewer line needed replacing since it was over 50 years old and made of "Orangeberg" material that premits root invasion. The new pipe is Schedule 40 PVC. One of the guys quoted $2200 plus $332 for a new toilet (American Standard). He said he could start the following Monday, then his partner reminded him of something, and the first guy said he couldn't do it the week of Aug. 23rd but could do it a week later on Aug. 30 because he was going to Vegas on vacation. While I thought it strange that Mr. Rooter had no one else to do the work, I went along. The guy called Monday the 30th and wanted to know if I still wanted to replace the line. I said yes, so he said his two men who dig the ditch would be available at noon and he would call me when they were on their way. No call that day or the following morning. I called Mr. Rooter to cancel the job since, by now, I was having doubts. The manager acted surprised at all that had transpired. He told me they would never put a customer off due to someone going on vacation and others could have done the job. He was also not pleased that the guy never called me back after that initial call. He asked me what it would take to make everything right. I told him I had been quoted approx. $2000 by another company. He said he could do the work for $1900. I said what about the toilet, and he said that was toilet included. Although I was leary of the attitude of the worker, I agreed. The two diggers arrived on the 1st and began digging. Around noon, they hit a water line running by the sewer line and broke it while I was running some errands. The guy called me and told me about the break which I know can happen. He said had to cut the water off, and would have it fixed by the end of the day. I called Mr. Rooter and asked them why it was going to take all afternoon to fix a line break. They said he had other jobs and would get to it when he could. I told them that was unacceptable...they broke it, they fix it immediately...I had not prepared to be without water all afternoon, or I would have been more tolerant. The guy showed up a few minutes later and fixed the water line. I had to leave that afternoon and returned Friday morning. They were cleaning up after covering the ditch. At this point, I can only hope that they took the old line out and replaced with new line...I did not see that part, but after all this, I think it logical to have my doubts. Twice during the morning I had to go close the gate in the backyard...once when our two goofball dogs got out. Fortunately, they had not gotten far when I discovered it. Later, I was told they got out again because the gate was not closed. I had not put the dogs in the house because they would bother the guy installing the toilet by wanting to be petted. The dogs were nowhere to be found. They are new to the area and did not have address tags yet, so I was concerned. I got in the pickup and drove all around trying to find them. I went back to the house to see if they had returned and comletely lost it. I yelled at them because it is not that hard to close the dang gate. I could see the dogs gone. I was not nice and probably said many things I shouldn't have said. I again got into my pick to continue looking. I got on the phone to the company and by this time, I could hear the frustration in the manager's voice...not only for all that had gone wrong, but also for me losing my temper. When the guy called and said the dogs had returned, I told them to put them in the yard and close the gate if they could handle that. I returned to the house and told all of them to clear out...that I had had enough and I wanted all of them gone. The manager called me after his guy called him and informed me that it would be at least 5:00 before anyone else could get there, so if I wanted the toilet installed, his guy would have to do it. By this time, I had cooled off a little and realized I had little choice, so I agreed to let his guy finish. He finished and did a good job. I can't justify using this company again, even though they did a great job the first time I used them (about a month ago). If I do, I will request only the person that came out then...he did excellent work. It is all about attitude, and I saw very little good
