I was out of town when he did the work. He sent me a picture of the work done and then on I paid him on August 6th...before I had a chance to look at the completed work. There was a broken pot, a big stack of concrete that was on the deck. He came back on the following Friday to help get things back in order. He then recognized the actual complaints I had on the work and said he would be back to complete the work. Since then I have not heard from him.

The owner of Competitive Contracting, John, performed the excavation and saw to the pouring of the concrete slab that was to be the substrate for the flagstones. This was done as agreed. After drying the concrete, the flagstones were arranged and secured with a cement mortar. This was OK, although leaving a surface that was not as level and smooth as originally discussed. Grouting was started, but stopped to gain approval for the color of it. Grouting was continued, but when finished and dry, had no color at all. There were large depressions in the grouting that needed filling with additional grout, as well as correcting the color problem. After promising to return to finish, John and his assistant have never been back. My mistake was paying for the complete job while there was still some work to be done. I'd recommend withholding payment until the completion of any contracted work with this businessman.
