Executed contract with A & A Construction (George Anthony) to build small farm cabin / deck. In a month and one-half, the footing was completed (see below) and the framing was never completed adequately. The workday seemed to average about 4-hours if it even started at all. The perimeter footers were supposed to be 36-inches. I discovered later they were poured at Mr. Anthony's instruction at 24-inches. This structural untruth got us to looking closer and both myself and subsequent professional builders (four have looked at it) said it was the poorest job of framing they had ever seen. Mr. Anthony also managed to get my wife (who is nice and knew no better), to pay him on his draws before he completed that particular segment of the work. Due to poor workmanship and structural mistakes, we had to terminate our association with A & A Construction in the middle of the project. Mr. Anthony ended up with $25,000 of our money for about $10,000 work of substandard work. He would take no responsibility for the work he performed. We have had to hire others who are working to correct his structural mistakes and make it safe and functional. The porch deck had to be completely re-constructed as well as much of the original framing. It seems Mr. Anthony did not hire a licensed plumber to do our work and he and his crew did the plumbing. They have no license to do this work and we paid for a professional plumber. All this had to be ripped out by a licensed plumber as it all was completely wrong. The exact same thing with the electrical wiring. It all had to be ripped out and replaced with proper size wiring to keep from burning down the house. All this we had already paid for once. I would beware of George Anthony and A & A Construction Services, whose motto was something like "lay it, hammer it, screw it"....in the end, it won't be the lumber that is the only thing that gets screwed. He seems to purposely underbid to get your attention and the contract, then there were the 'allowances' for things that are below what it takes to buy them, and the customer has to make up the difference between the cost of the product and the 'allowance'. Mr. Anthony told me that his poor quality work was just mine and others 'opinion' and that I basically did not know what I was talking about when I pointed out obvious poor work. He was anxious to get the sheetrock on so his sub-standard framing was covered. When he was terminated and asked not to return, he took it well as if this is not the first time it has happened. He sure didn't offer to return any of our hard-earned money he had received for work that was not completed. As my wife said, Mr. Anthony will have to answer to a higher authority for his cover-ups and shortcuts and tomfoolery one day. Take it from us and BEWARE....don't be another one of those he will have to stand before The Lord and answer for...... I have already submitted a report on the terrible job this company did on the concrete work, framing and porch of our project. They were terminated before they could do further damage. Upon hiring competent professionals to complete the job, WE FOUND SO MUCH MORE INCOMPETENCE....the framer had to re-do a lot of the interior structural bracing on the house and porch before he could proceed. The plumbers had to re-do most of what A & A had done. Some joints of PVC were not even glued together. They didn't even use the right type of PVC glue. The heights for the vanity and sink were all plumbed to the wrong heights, wrong size pipe, etc. There was not even any pipe attached to join the kitchen sink with the septic system on the other end of the house and the floor was already installed!! Electricians had to rewire the house because A & A used the wrong gauge of wire for the stove and water heater! (to small)... This has caused delay, headache and much double expense that was already paid for. But it was worth it to finally terminate these incompetents and get someone who knew what they were doing. George Anthony of A & A Construction is a good salesman. But he is a terrible carpenter and so is his crew. Structurally, they simply do not seem to know what they are doing and much had to be redone to make it structuraly sound. I shudder to think of what no one could see that was already covered up!. And the plumbing and electrical work would seem to be unlawful and we are looking into that aspect. Incompetency, short-cuts, wrong-materials, structural unsoundness. Take it from us after having to pay twice for A & A's mistakes..big mistake to hire these folks... Note: Per Mr. Anthony's response below about the framing being '1/8 short'.....actually the cuts were closer to 1/4 short and these were SUPPORT BEAMS. In other words, the top of the house would have to settle this far to the top plate before the 'cut too short' support beams could do any 'supporting'. This is the type of work that I complained about before I became aware of the plumbing and electrical transgressions. Even a couple of honest sub-trades could not stand the incompetence and warned me of the short-cuts and inferior work that was occurring.
Description of Work: Concrete footers, framing. Plumbing, electrical.

Response from A&A CONSTRUCTION SERVICES
unfortunately the customer fails to mentioned his constant harassment of our trades, and that several would not return to the job or even tender contracts. We do wish the clients luck in building there building, but the client is one that really trust no one and questions all professionals and complains to additional authorities on job-sites about additional trades on site, we were constantly asked to re-cut rough framing as client felt (and I put it in his words) were about 1/8" short. our position is simple if you hire a professional stay out of the way and let them do there job, if you do not trust them then do not hire them and do it yourself.
