Overall the building process was OK. The builder did most everything he agreed to do.Any changes no matter how minute was at our expense. After the home was complete and we had moved in the builder became non-existent.
Description of Work: We contracted with Horn Custom Builders to build our new home in June of 2010. The home was built and completed on the dead-line as the builder agreed. However, once we closed on the home and the builder had his money, it was see you later. To this date he has never ever stopped by to see how things were going, or make sure everything was OK. We suppose he is to embarrassed ! We moved into the home on Oct. 1, 2010. The first problem we incurred was that the builder had forgot, or did not follow up with the gas company, to make sure a gas line was installed. Therefore, we went about 6 days with no gas in the NEW home which meant no hot water. Not only did the builder never call to check on the problem, he never even came by to personally apologize or offer any resolutions such as a hotel room for a night so we could get a hot shower. All he did was offer up excuse after excuse. The grass in the yard was so full of misc. weeds and laid so un-level that the builder finally, very reluctantly, agreed toreplace the grass (of course we had to pay for the labor). Again, after the yard was finally properly completed he never checked back to see if everything was OK, and done to our satisfaction. Within one year the wooden front door, shutters, and garage door had to sanded and re-stained as they were not properly prepared by the builders painter. This also was at our expense, as Horn Builders said it was the sun that had caused the problem. Apparently our home is the only one in the neighborhood that the sun shines on ! Again, Mr. Horn never even came by like most professional people would have done to inspect the doors and shutters. He, however drove by in his vehicle and made his decision from the street. I could go on and on about how un-professional we have been treated by Horn Builders. I refuse to use the word Custom. So buyer beware.........after closing on your home, Horn Builders will be through.
